I own and repair Diamant,i don't know year of creating this guitar, but it's something about 25-27 years ago(it's my father's guitar).22frets,solid les Paul copy body(black whit 14Kgold lines)original Les Paul 3 way switch,2 Dimarzio Vol. controllers 2 Dimarzio Tone controllers.2 spectrum(gold) humbuckers(weary, weary strong),Hardwere:24K Gold/chrome(tune-o-matic bridge)Tuners are Grover.
Sound
:9
Sound is good, bluesy and jazzy on clean, but if you put it on Ibanez Black Noise pedal you will get some crazy black-metal sound, if you put it on DS-1 or DS-2 you will have some HC or Punk sound....

As I was say it's my father's guitar so it???s very old, when he give me guitar my first tot was??? this guitar goes to garbage "but when I heard sound of it I changed my mind, I replaced Tuners, switch, Vol. and Tone controllers, screws was rusty so I replaced them with Dimarzio gold screws and I done some pretty nice and expensive paint job and gilding(that is how i get all those gold parts :)
Reliability/Durability

Well it's 25 years old and it's still sound like hell...

Ok, so let me see: i actually dont know what year was it made but around the 80s. 22 frets 2 vol. 2 tone controls a pickup selector(replaced whit gibson 3 way selector), 2 humbucker pickups(originals) gibson style bridge.
Sound
:8
It is hard to say, it is on you what sound can you crank from this guitar out, its depends on amps and effects as well, i use a hot rod deluxe fender amp a boss ds-1 bd-2 distortion pedals, ds-1 for full distortion and the bd-2 for creamy sounds. I play a lot of alternative things like radiohead, sonic youth, grunge and so on. Its not my only guitar but it suits me in some situations, especially when i want feedback:). It has a bright sound on the bridge pickup and warm sound on the neck pickup. I can use it for some jazz situations too.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Not bad, but what can we expect....no, sorry its a really usable guitar, nothing is wrong whit the finish, it acts well.

Its a wery reliable guitar, i played it live throw it, try to smash it but i couldnt:), ok if you want you can. I can depend on this guitar, but you must figure out in what settings it works well.

I have owned and repaired quite a few Diamants over the years (Gibsons and all kinds of others too, so let's just say I have enough experience to compare). I won't repeat what other reviewers said, I'll just clarify a few points.
There are two problems that most people have with the Diamant.
First, these guitars are about 20-30 years old, and most haven't been babied. Some of these kids need to learn that an average vintage guitar needs a set-up and maybe some minor repairs before you can complain about "high action" and other problems. Half the time, it's the condition of the instrument, not some inherent flaw in its design. Set up properly, the Diamant can be a sweet little guitar.
Secondly, the Diamant kinda looks like a Gibson... but it's not. And it doesn't sound like one. If you're used to modern high-output humbuckers and want to play with lots of distortion, you will not be happy with the sound of the original Spektrum pickups. The Diamant is at its best with a clean, jazzy sound. If that's not your thing, then change the pickups, don't blame the guitar.
Sound
:6
Good for clean sounds, ones not usually associated with a Les Paul.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Diamants were pretty well made for its class. At this point, all problems are due to age and abuse.

Certainly not a high-end instrument, but will give any Asian bolt-neck Les Paul copy a good run for the money, even today. An excellent value if you can find a clean one. Sure, there are better guitars out there, but you'll spend more, too.

Made in Czechoslovakia loong time ago. I bought it in Second-hand shop, so the condition wasn't that good, but after a little pimp, it looks just right. Two volume knobs, two tone knobs... it had some weird switching thing-a-ma-bob, but I've changed it for classic lespaul trigger. Body is a little bit heavy and YES, you can easily kill someone w/it and then have a gig in the same minute.
The neck is rather in 0 than D shape...
Sound
:10
I play some kind of exxperiMENTAL musick stonerrock and it fits into my dirty music style. Yes, it has some strange sounds even if you don't play on it, but it's the part of the game
Sound is a little bit sharp, less sustain, like aluminium
But I like it

But I love it and there is no better thing for me to play at..

It's copy of classic Les Paul, so it has 22 frets, two humbackers (very low output - like single coils) My model is black (90% of Jolana LP models are black). Bridge Tune-o-matic, very good one, you can adjust it in 3 dimetions (2 standard and one more for adjusting space between strings!) The bridge doesn't les strings brake. Tuners are not so bad (I saw better)
Sound
:8
Low output humbackers make this guitar sound very clean and warm, but it has almost no power, when you use dist. or overdrive. In my opinion this thing is really great for strat-like music, but I prefer something more powerfull, so I'm going to change electronics, and buy DiMarzio. Strat sound, without hum - that's all I can say about it.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
In my model action wasn't very good, and the problem is (in all Jolanas), that the neck convex, and the bridge isn't. That make two middle string (G and D) touch frets, and make sound worse. That's only bad thing in action, cos it tunes almost perfectly, so I like it (this is most important thing for me)

Many people say it's made like tank. And they're right :D The guitar is quite heavy (almost 5 kilos) and very solid. I like it very much, my best guitar sofar. It price-quality ratio is very high. I recomand it, but remember - they're old, and not always look brilliant :)

Made in Czechoslovakia. It was thought as a copy of some Gibson, but never did that way because of the weight... 4.8kg!!! Originaly it had 2 or 3 positions for sound... I changed it. 2 solid humbuckers, 4 pots, passive electronics(can be easily modified). Black solid body with white lining... very elegant
Sound
:8
Good for blues or some kind of rock that I play. It has a very fat sound and cuts away the most of the trebble(can be partially fixed with modifying the circuits around the humbuckers. Nto really made for country. Maybe the properties of the pickups are influenced by time, so with new pickups there should be no problem with the sound. With my config of the pickup electronics you can get 4 completely different sounds(even 2 kinds of stereo...) Realy cool what I made to her...
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
First of all it's very solid. You could kill a wrestler with it! As I sai it's very heavy and allmost undestructable (heaven't destroyed it yet :))) ). Allthough it was made with Russian technology it's very good built. I couldn't find any bugs... And also after 15 years it is in very good condition. Maybe the bridge could be adjusted more precisely but this is also good.

I play mainly Punkrock - And it is to heavy, but for death metal or Blues great, cuz it has more lows then some of bassguitars i have heard. For A 15 years Old guitar great.
Some things is worng the problem with distortion. YOU JUST CANT PLAY LOUD!!! But my father bought it For playing clean, and for that it kicks squier strat and other cheap guitars. (This guitar was a dream for him in 80's he bought it) - I will buy a new one for me,but This sounds good enough.

You can see in the other reviews where it was made - Czecoslavia(whatever it's spelled). It has 22 low frets. It's solid wood and has a knob for pickup selection with actually four positions - bridge, both, neck and something that seems to be "nothing". It has two Spektrum humbackers - sound good to me. It has maple neck. The body is black with white outer lines. It has Tune-o-matic bridge with something like little wheels holding the strings - this kind of helps the strings last longer - they don't break there. The tuners are pretty ok on my guitar, but D and B don't work too good - B has to be turned for a while until it starts really tuning.
Sound
:9
It's my first and only electric guitar, so i can't really compare it with other guitars very good, but i have played some other guitars so i can say something. It has high, rich output and it sounds powerfull and fat. I use Boss ME-5 with it and Boss Overdrive/distortion with it and it sounds pretty good. The only problem connected with sound is that my pots are dirty, so it crunches when those are turned.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
The quality is really good. It is 15 or so years old, but it doesn't have any damage really, except silverish surface is comming off the metal pickup boxes, but that's because i rub it with my hand, when i play. Nothing else is wrong.
Reliability/Durability
:10
I have had it on all my gigs, not many of them, less than 10, but it never made me worry. Nothing has gone wrong in gigs with it. The strap buttons are HUGE, but the srew holding the neck strap button is moved too much, so it's comming out itself (slowly and patiently, like a snail :) ). I would definitely depend on it in any situation. I don't worry of any backup.
There was a day i got in horrible rain for half an hour and all the bag was wet. My guitar was covered with little drops. I had a gig that night and i was really worried, that something might have gone wrong. I called my friend, to get his guitar over to gig place, just for security, but my guitar didn't have any problems, although it was wet for about 6 hours.

I have been playing for two years, but i have this guitar for a year now. I love this guitar. It looks good, it has it's attitude, it has it's own ego, not like tose Fender strats or any of those everybody-has-it guitars. I am very happy with my purchase, because i think it is almost as good as Gibson les Pauls. I have played fender strat, career 7 stringed, some other not so popular guitars, but i still love my guitar more, because it has beautiful sound, beautiful looks and beautiful identity.

OK, this is not my axe, but I did a setup and a sort of repair for a friend of mine on it. It is basically a Czechoslovak Les Paul knock-off made in 1980's. It has a bound sandwich body (top+middle+back, but don't know the woods as it's all solid black), bound three-piece maple bolt-on neck (cut into three lengthwise pieces and reglued to prevent warping), dual humbuckers (called "Spektrum"), crappy tuners, an improved tune-o-matic style bridge (which allows string spacing adjustments in addition to the usual intonation - for an idea what it looks like, try Schaller website), an interesting three-way rotary switch, and controls with a different scheme: the top two knobs are for volume, basically respecting the pickups' positions, and the two bottom ones are for tone.
Sound
:No Opinion
This thing rocks. The pickups are somewhat low (read "vintage") output, but sound nice and crunchy. The rotary switch is broken, and I can't make it work for both pickups at once. The sound is quite full and round, with good string-to-string balance. The tone controls are not very inspiring, though - they cut off too many frequencies.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
The thing had been with a friend's friend for a long time, and when it was finally retrieved, it really needed some setup - both strings and pickups. The high e string saddle is missing, and making a replacement is beyond my capabilities (as is the broken rotary pickup selector), which is why I am referring the axe to a real luthier. The thing's old and used, so it's a bit beat. One more thing I did was replace the masking tape that held the back cavities' covers in place with bolts - the original bolts had bitten their holes too loose and were long lost, so I used a little larger ones.
Reliability/Durability
:9
This guitar is quite battered, but it still delivers. It's from the first production run, so it's actually well and carefully built. The neck is beefy - beefier than the one of my LP Studio (which, as I understand, has the beefy '59 carve) - and very comfortable. The frets are low, but intonate well. Unless you want to destroy it, you won't. The strap buttons are worth extra mention as they are very large, and the back one is actually a screwdriver if you unscrew it all the way out. The axe is as gig-worthy as anything I've played, and I wouldn't fear to use it without a backup. The only downer is the crappy tuners that don't hold the tuning very well.
Customer Support
:No Opinion
The original company is out of business, but it was rearranged in early 1990's and it cranks out Deans, MTD, Epiphone and Spectors these days. The current production quality is generally superior to the 80's. I don't expect any support for this particular type, but some guitar shops around Prague still offer leftover bodies and necks for this type.
Overall Rating
:9
I've been playing for about 14 years, and when I was starting out, this type of guitar was an out-of-reach dream for me. Times change. I have several guitars now, including a LP Studio, and now that I own the original, this old copy could be laughable. But it's not, because it's solid, well built, and can still rock hard. Plus, it is one of the "good old" ones - a sort of vintage - I mean in this country, of course. It even has an older headstock design vaguely reminiscent of Gibson (I hear the company was forced to change the design, and later series featured one that resembles the headstock shape that can now be found on some Washburn guitars).
It is a well-built, well playable guitar, and a superior choice for a beginner or student, because the prices in pawnshops are very low - generally between CZK 3000 and 4000, which is approximately the 70 to 100 dollar price range. You can stumble onto crappy ones, but that's true of any production stuff, and if you find a good one, you will be rewarded.
