Features : 8
It looks like a red Gibson SG with a fat neck profile. Electronics:1 volume knob, 1 tone knob, 2 pickup on/off switches and two weird looking pickups I've not seen before or since.

Sound : 9
I use this guitar with some small combo amps and I can get virtually any type of sound with it(jazz, older and newer metal, blues, and even that weird Telecaster sound.I mostly use it for slide though. No matter what style of music you play, if you play it on this guitar, it will definitely sound unique.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
I bought it used, so I can't really comment on the factory setup, but when I got it the action was VERY high(I'm not saying that's a flaw, I just figured you should know) and there is some oxidizing on the hardware.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It would definitely withstand live playing.I beat the crap out of this thing(that includes bending the neck and hitting it like a drum) but I would not use it without a backup because it IS a backup. Definitely solid though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Kay went out of business in 1974 so, basically their customer service is ALMOST as bad as that of Sears.

Overall Rating : 10
I have nothing else to say about this guitar.

This guitar was manufactured in Taiwan. i suppose only God and the guy who made it knows what year (i guess mid '70s). It has a volume control and a tone control mounted in the pick guard and it has two switches; one for each pickup turning on or off. The tuners are kinda chintsy and they don't lock, but they get the job done. You can hammer it and it won't detune. It has a thin neck with a rosewood fretboard. The body looks to be made from a 1 inch sheet of plywood and it is finished quite nicely in a deep, transparent blood red. One feature that is noticed and commented on alot by music store people and my friends is how lightweight the guitar is. It is certainly the most featherweight guitar i have ever played, yet it doesn't feel cheap.

Sound : 7
My style floats between the hardcore and the church worship music. i play a little bit of punk in there too. This guitar seems pretty well suited for all of it. It has a very clear and very crisp acoustic qualities when you aren't feeding it the distortion and mega volume. I use a little Peavy Rage 158 practice amp at home and i use tha big stuff whenever i go out. i have been trying out a few different multi-effects pedals lately, but i haven't found one i liked enough i was willing to pay the cash for. The guitar itself does seem to have a bit of a short in the plug though. The cord end doesn't go into the guitar all the way and it cracks and buzzes when you get moving. There is also a different, more mellow hum on the pickups when you have the tone all the up and you don't have your finger on a pickup. It does bother me sometimes, but i guess not enough to fix it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
i have no complaints about it's action or fit. And the Finish; well the guitar does have two chips - one that dented the body, but i'm not worried about it. It was like that when i got it. It still plays the same. Things don't stay new forever. i will admit though that i really didn't care for the color at first. It has grown on me since. There's just something about that blood red and the black pickguard and the guitar's shape... It's neat.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
This thing has been around a while and it has been played by my uncle first, then my dad, then me and all of my crazy friends... Yeah. i would say it is pretty durable. As far as hardware goes, the only things i have had to replace on it are a tuning key bushing and strings. (My crazy friends busted the little e string twice...) It is likely that i will also soon replace the tuning keys with some more modern ones.

Customer Support : No Opinion
First of all, there is none that i know of. The guitar is pretty old and i didn't get it new or anything. Even if it was new and they had customer support, i am sure they wouldn't need it. They are probably some of the more durable guitars around.

Overall Rating : 9
If this thing was stolen i would not replace it...i would hunt that punk down and kick butt! (It's my guitar stupid. Go get your own!)
If it was destroyed, i would fix it and then proceed with the beatings. Then i would lay some groovy hooks while i stand on their beaten down pile of bones. Maybe not, but it sounds cool... This is my first guitar and i have had it for a few years now. i guess i have become attached to it. It's a guitar. There are lots of guitars, but only one is mine. i give it a 9 because i think every guitarist should play a Kay K-2 once. And not just any K-2, but mine... Thanks for listening.
