Made 1974 in Japan, apparently Kay couldn't keep up with the demand for classicals in the 70s, so they brought some in from overseas. Laminated spruce top, laminated ash back and sides, mahogany neck, rosewood bridge, fretboard, and peghead overlay. The back does have a fancy inlay, possibly maple. Soundhole rosette is a decal, with matching inlay on the tie block and peghead. Inexpensive but functional tuners, originally goldtone, now nicely aged brass. Pearl butterfly keys. Neck is fairly small for a classical. Gloss poly finish, sort of gooped on at the peghead. Plastic nut and saddle. Neat old case with a big flashy Kay logo on the top.

Amazing tone for a plywood guitar. When I bought my first KDG60, I had an opportunity to play it alongside a number of other decent classicals, a Hohner, a Hofner, several more I can't remember, and the Kay had the sweetest tone, hands down. Not the brightest tone, not the fullest, just a very well-balanced, sweet voice. I liked it so much that I soon bought two more just like it, and they all shared that same lovely voice. I have since played better classicals, and while they are for the most part louder than the Kay, they don't necessarily sound better. I know three very good classical players, all of whom have complimented the tone of this little Kay.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Fit and finish mostly very good, a little hit and miss at the peghead. Tuning machines have aged nicely, although I have seen some cracking of the plastic string rollers. These guitars are 35 years old, I can forgive some cracked plastic. Action on all three of my KDG60s was very low, like really low. One actually had fret buzz, I had to cut a new saddle for it. Tone and volume may suffer a bit from low action, but sooo playable.

Thirty five years old. I have one that has been played quite a lot, and has a few dings on the sides, but overall has held up very well. I have one that has rarely been out of the case since 74, and it's mint. No acoustic is going to be indestructible the way a Telecaster is, but I'm fairly certain that I could defend myself with this guitar, retune, and continue playing.

Playing almost 30 years, almost 28 of them badly. Hadn't had a classical in years and years, and just sort of fell for this one. Overpaid for my first one, did better with #2 and #3. Eventually sold #3, still have the other two. Bottom line: there's a million Yamahas and Hohners out there, most of them are good solid guitars. This Kay is a pretty little guitar, for short money. Vintage mojo, sweet tone, cool case. You could do a lot worse than a KDG60. If you see one, buy it.

I bought one about 34 years ago - new. It's still in mint condition. Made in Japan. 19 frets. Back and sides are ash laminates. Back is three different kinds of wood (maybe ash and Alder?)- the center section is in shape of large inverted "V" top to bottom. Beautiful wild grains in the back and side woods. Top looks like spruce, and has matured in color with age. Rosette looks to be a decal. Head stock has a narrow flowered patern vertical stripe inlay. Classical body. Neck is rosewood, is flat, and standard classical width.

Originally used it to play flamingo. Now I am using it for hawaiian slack key. Sounds rich and mellow. The original tuning machine keys were pearl butterfly. They fell apart after only 20 years (imagine that!). I replaced them with Allparts gold/black gear/ebony tuning pegs machines. What an inprovement...much smoother, and attractive. The tone resonates right into your soul. Comfortable to hold and play.

Can't reven remember what I had for breakfast, let alone 30 years ago. This thing is vintage.

This is the kind of guitar that you can seranade your honey with, out on the porch after dinner; and it will make you look alot better than you really are. If you want more than that, you'll have to get plastic surgery.

I hope the warranty wasn't lifetime. I'm sure the Kay company had no idea how long I'll keep this little sweetheart.

I don't think many of this model has survived. A little surgery on the tining machines, and that's all I ever needed to do. I'd miss it if it was gone. (and no, I'm not too cheap to buy a different guitar). I have a different guitar. If you have one already - hang on to it. Sometimes older is better.

This is a classical guitar 19 frets It is the third one I have had and they have all been about same size. I have not restrung it for about three years and it still sounds really sweet.
I just wanna say thanx kay. And if any one knows any more about them this one was made in Japan I bought it S/H at a car boot sale.
I have been making noises with them for about ten years now
And it's the first one that I have felt this good about.
