From the 70's, probably from east asia, 21 frets standard LP config
whole things made from plywood with a bolt on neck, rusted up tune-o-matic, worst tuners ever - seem to be held together by rust.
Very oddly shaped neck
Sound
:
9
Very dirty, gritty sound through a marshall - sounds good for a 30-40 year old piece of scrapwood - dials crackel a bit.
Suits my style well - hard rock.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
5
Got it probably 3rd hand, dodgy setup and the bridge is too rusted up to set it up again.
Had the worst tuners ever - looked like they were from some cheap-ass acoustic, pickups sounded ok, mostly all the hardware was oxidised, pickup selecter had somehow been oxidised down to a small green stub. The input jack and all controls worked fine.
Reliability/Durability
:
6
Scrapwood would probably splinter easily, and I need to replace the bridge, strap buttons are crap, but it seems like a good runner and its taken quite a beating already.
I always keep a backup - at least 2 guitars.

Playin 3 years - got 8 guitars
If it were stolen, I would probably try and get one of those fake chinese Gibsons :P
I like the dirty sound the best, it suits my playing well.
The body needs to be more balanced - its bottom heavy and falls sideways when sitting down and playing.

The effects models have very good ratings....the ones without are obviously inferior

playing the guitar on its own without its effects is very blusey jazz sounding. sounds good through any amp no noise .but the magic ive found with this guitar is useing its built in effects in conjuction with other effects pedals i did'nt think this would sound much good before i tried it but i plugged the guitar through one of my many effects units so at ramdom i just plugged it through my boss gt6 and useing the fuzz and echo from my kay guitar in conjuction with other amp cabin sounds in the gt6 plus other types of distortions from the gt6 you get some very unique sounds because the fuzz on the kay is unique in its self

Les Paul Copy, Sunburst, mine has a great looking finish, but damage to the side of the neck where it was dropped (filled with araldite). One of the small fx switches is broken, but still operable.
Sound
:

Used with an old 100-110 watt Frunt Amp. Don't know if they're around either! One or two buzzes on low E and A strings. Fx are adequate, but I lean toward the fuzz, really rich, especially when added to the distortion on the amp.

The guitar was well set up when delivered, not much done to it since I got it. Machinery still going fine and looking good.

This guitar has never let me down. I have to say any flaws are down to accidents over the years. It hasn't been hammered, so hope to get a few more years out of it yet. It's gigged a couple of times but I wouldn't rely on any one guitar if I was gigging regularly.

I got this guitar new in June 1980 for my 18th Birthday. Other guitars have been mainly acoustic and semi-ac. I have tried other electric guitars, but none have impressed me enough to buy. Then again, I don't rely on this guitar for a living. (although it's gigged a couple of times). From what others say you either get a good one or a bad one. Even if the electrics collapsed tomorrow, I could never part with this guitar, it would always have a place in some corner. ??180 25 years ago, not bad value for money.

Based loosely around a les Paul, bolt on neck, I think it was made in the 70s,tobaco sunburst, two hum buckers and built in effects. This guitar always gets attention from people when at gigs.
Sound
:

This is one of the most unusual sounding guitars I own, its brilliant for rock, has a wonderful sustain, with a rich full sound just like all good les paul copies should sound.
Then this beast has these built in effects, in my opinion all guitars should be made this way. The sound of the built fx are so 70s extraordinary, nasty, weird, strange, noisy, inspireing, I just can?t put this thing down. If you get a chance, try one out.

This instrument is around 30 years old and is as solid as a rock, I have owned this for around 20 years and it plays as good as any USA les paul I have played. The frets are nice and smooth and the action is superb. This is a beautiful guitar with a nice vintage burst, it is complemented by an array of small switches on a black plastic panel with the fx controls clearly written in white, This baby never fails to get noticed at gigs.

I have playing in bands for as long as I can remember, I own many different guitars from USA TO JAPS, this is one of my personal favourites because it is so unpretentious but yet really usable and elegant in looks, if it were stolen I would cry, as the possibility of finding one this playable and in this condition is very unlikely.
If you find one buy it, play it, love it...

A black les paul copy, Maybe 60s, 70s, Made In Korea apparantly...
22-fret, solid body, was once laminated and shiny but has faded with age.
2 volume, 2 tone, 2 way pickup selector. H/H, really awful pickups. Possibly rosewood neck, I may be wrong! Got nothin with it, bought it for $60.
Sound
:

The guitar sounds ok, of course, with a lot of heavy distortion. You try to get a nice clean sound out of it, and even on a Marshall JCM-800, the guitar splutters and the sound quality drops. One of the pickups wasnt working, so i took it out and replaced it with an EMG. It didnt like that at all...

It is suprisingly low action, fast moving neck. The setup however is poor, and the buzzing that you get from playing it is terrible. However, like i said, crank it up loud and it plays fine!

Les Paul look-a-like
Made in the 60's or perhaps 70's in Japan?
22frets

Looks like 3 piece solid body
Volume, Tone, Speed Controls
Big frets

The pickups sound kind of like PAF's to me - weak for humbuckers. I use it with a little fender combo (i play bass mainly). It was kind of limited in sound until i took out the headphone jack and added a pickup selector in its place. Now it's quite versatile.

I can't comment on setup from the factory (obviously) but when i got it there was one buzzing fret which i fixed by putting on 11's instead of 9's. neck joint isn't so great- there's a gap on the underside. play really really well though. i'm almost afraid to say that i like it better than my '87 MIJ strat. there's just something special about it.

Feels pretty solid. The finish is quite thin though. It's "flaking" in places. The output jack on mine was pretty much useless when i got it but that was easy to fix with a soldering iron and a new jack.

I've been playing for 14 years. Started off on classical guitar, then went to electric. I own an American strat, a MIJ strat, an OLP MM4, a Lakland 44-01, and an acoustic. If it were stolen I'd be very upset. I love this guitar and there's not much chance of finding another one but I would still try. I just love the way it feels, the vibe...it's hard to explain. The FX are cheesey but cool in a "craptastic" kind of way. I just thought this guitar was interesting and unique so I gave it a go and never looked back. After I fixed the output jack it became my favorite guitar.

This is actually a followup to my last entry. I wrote back in November 2002 about it and told about how mine was stolen. Well, I was lucky enough to find a chap in the UK who had one for sale and I picked it up. I didn't get it for a bargain though. I had to pay over $350 US for it. It was in good condition with only a few body scratches on it. Some of the electronics didn't work, but I got most of them fixed now. The only thing that doesn't work is the headphone amp and it didn't work on my original one either so I'm not really missing anything there. Other than that, the guitar handles nicely. It was made in Korea in the 1980's. Not a bad guitar really. Sounds really good and feels good to play (even though I normally play bass). I'm currently looking to get some of the new Gibson paint pens in assorted colors to match the tobacco/maroon sunburst finish on it. I can be reached at pukuja@yahoo.com if anybody knows where I can get some.

This was a Kay LP Synth guitar. It was a Les Paul copy. I loved it because the effects were cool. It had a fuzz, tremolo, and (my favorite) whirlwind. The only thing that I couldn't get to work on it was the headphone amp. The only problem was, mine was stolen out of a storage locker. I have been looking for another one or mine. If anyone in the US would like to get rid of theirs, please let me know. My email address is pukuja@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Plays just about anything with the same efficiency, all crap. It's a very noisy guitar, great if you want a dirty tone. It's a cheaply made guitar and the sound you get is about what you paid for.

The set-up was horrible. The action was way off, strings buzzing everywhere and the humbuckers were off as well. The input jack was barely screwed in and the pick-up selector switch was loose.

I wouldn't play this thing live for any reason so I'll never have to wonder if it's durable. It's not though. The electronics are shoddily wired and the screws on the input jack will come off for no reason. The knobs are virtually useless. It is a solid guitar and could take a beating, a beating I would like to personally deliver.

I don't know where this guitar was made, but it has the Les Paul configuration that includes 22 frets, 2 volume and tone knobs, dual single coil humbuckers, plywood body and neck?, black finish, Les Paul body, tune-o-matic bridge, Kay tuners, thin rosewood fingerboard, and no accessories since I bought it used.
Sound

This guitar can be used for anything: rock, blues, country, crap............... It doesn't work very well on distortion, but on a clean channel it sounds good. When you put the selector switch on rhythm it's really thumpy and loud. Basically what I'm saying is that you really shouldn't buy this guitar!
Action, Fit, & Finish

The action was way off, the nut was messed up, it's probably made out of plywood, and the tuners suck the big one. I should probably replace them anyway. The pickups were actually adjusted and it had a nice black finish.

LEtr's just not prattle on here.. it's a vintage Kay I got for 90 bucks ina junk store, they didn't kow what it was, I did... not extremely collectable or valuable, but it had everything I wanted, heavy solid body, strong straight neck and it almost worked! it took a fw ghours at home before it was really playable and to have it really playable I am changing the tuners, and probably the tailpeice... and the pickups and the switches as they are all worn out.

I got this guitar for the "nei young" factor... It's a destroyed old LP and it can't be killed, the stock tuners fall out of tune now and then with aggressive playing, but it holds up pretty well all in all. I haven't played with it in clubs or anything yet, it's more of a pet project, but considering the price of a "real" Les Paul, I prefer this one. for a total of 200 bucks or so and a few spare parts, I have a great working guitar that can take a licking and keep on ticking!
