My father as a kay resignator guitar. He swears by it that their is not another dobro around that gives him as good as sound. He is not for shure on the year it was made. He bought it in a pawnshop about to years ago. Myself I am a guitar player I gave this round neck beauty a trial run threw a few blues riffs it sounded really good.Under the kay logo it is stamp vintage series in yellow writing. The top has a cherry finnish.

My father raises the action and tunes to g b d g b d. He uses a Chuck Pearse roll off slide. This set up to play bluegrass. I have played name brand dobro style guitars that doesnot sound as good. The first company I will knock is Fender.Another company is Eiphone. These high priced mass produced resignator guitars just don,t have the sound. Any who no's anything about guitars no's about sweet spots. This dobro is sweet on strings 2,3,4,from frets 5-9

No it is not very durable this is not an instrument for the serious musican. My fathers dobro sits in the closet alot. But he is not a serious musican. It comes out probably a couple times a month.I don't you could gig with this. I keep talking my father into a johnson square neck. But he tells me he would rather have poor man's dobro.

It was ordered threw the pawnshop from a factory second catalog. My father says the cheaper the price the better off he is.

I love cheap instruments but you get what you pay for. I have had my feel of harmony, kay, regal, saga, andlotus. There are alot of musicans who will by these most guitar, and pawnshops have catalogs for these. They will tell you they are cutting a deal and sell you these at 100.00 to 150.00 dollars cheaper than the name brand. It is always the mom and pop shops that pulls this.My suggestion is if you have pay a little extra. Get something that will last.

This is a new import similar to many on the market today. It is a smaller, almost 3/4 size and made of nato or some other mahogany-like wood. The lower bout is the same thickness as the upper bout but the back an top are arched. The body is stained red and finished in a very ligtt flat finish. The neck is slim, feels like an electric and has a more conventional finish. The resonator and spider bridge are standard import quality. It sits on a rim glued to the top rather than a soundwell. This guitar has a bright sound that really jumpsThe The tailpiece and coverplate are nicer (heavier plated) than some others I've seen on inexpensive resonators. The bridge insert is a hardwood and the nut is plastic. It comes with good quality sealed tuners.

Good overall tone, very bright and jumpy. Because of the small size and light weight it sounds trebly. It is loud however and has a cool, funky tone. I glued some soundposts (1/4" maple dowels) between the rim and back and it dramatically brought out the bass tones and added sustain. Now it really sings.

The cherry finish is nice and adds volume due to it's light almost hand rubbed quality. There are no flaws and only a few rough fret ends. The top and back have a multi ply binding and the neck is also bound. It came set up just perfect for my taste, high enough for slide but still frettable.

Although it seems well made, this guitar is light....probably wouldn't take abuse well. As I said before however, the coverplate is of better quality than many imports.

I have owned four different resonators. This one is a gem, especially with the sounds post modification, something that took a less than half an hour. It sounds great, much better than you wou;ld think a $225 resonator would sound. It plays well and is a fun guitar to have around. Great little dobro.
