I bought an ugly lemon creme colored used Kent Studio Series Strat in 1986 & really only modified it by changing the stock volume pot to a volume pot I lfted from a Peavey amp & replaced two stock pickups also.

The tail pickup is Dimarzio & middle pick up is a emg-tho I may swap that out with either a fender lace sensor-silver or a Vantage rocker pickup-or-a Seymour Duncan hot Badfinger.

The original strings were all in the 10 range So,I opted out for using Ernie Ball Extra Slinky-American 9 series strings....& never looked back....this baby plays as good as any top of the line guitars! AS FOR THE Paint....a few tracings of the pickguard with black/red,neon color orange, red, green, white make it worth it's rep of being a bad ass guitar....under a black light it glows as cool as it plys thtrua nice dsp series rack with a 8 piece array of Boss/DOD pedals & two different amps...one tubed Fender Stack & a punchy Yamaha solid State....one monster of a sound!

Now I'm on a quest to find a Bass& rig that equals it.

From the information I've gathered, my Kent was made sometime in the late 60's in Japan. It's black with a white pickguard, and the knobs and pickup covers have yellowed with age. 3 single-coil pickups, volume and 2 tone knobs, 3-way switch. It has a maple neck and fretboard. Large late 60's style very "Fenderesque" headstock. The body is made from a denser type of wood than alder, I think it may be maple. When I first got it, it had been stting in a dank, damp, basement-like area for about 10 years, and before then it had sat in a pawn shop for a good while, so it was kinda nasty under the pickguard. After having the insides cleaned up and the truss rod adjusted by my good friend Bailey, it played like a dream. But after only a couple of months, the pickguard broke when I was removing it for a little maintainence. I had to replace all electronics and pickups with the pickguard because the original pickups wouldn't fit in a newer pickguard (they were too wide).

I play mostly blues and bluesy rock, and the Kent suits it very well. Played through a tube amp, it has a rich, deep tone. You can make it scream if you can play well enough. It has a great sound. The only dislike I have is I have to watch the bass on the amp because it gets a little growly in the lows.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitar was in total disarray when I first pulled it out of that dank cellar. My buddy Bailey helped me set it up and it was good to go.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is super durable. You could beat a man to death with it and it would still be in good shape. The neck tends to cause problems sometimes but other than that and the occasional tuning problem, it's great.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The company has been defunct since the late 60's, so I haven't really had any contact with them.

Overall Rating : 9
It's a great guitar, puts Fenders to shame, and I love it with all my heart. If it were lost or stolen, I would go as far as giving up my left nut to get it back (or get another one).
