Very nice-looking Gold Top finish. Maple top/Mahogany body. Nice brazillian fretboard. Lollar P90 pickups. Wrap-around tailpiece, f- holes. Locking tuners. Fairly substatial neck.

I'll give it an 8 - it's what I ordered.

Sound : 6
Mediocre sound. The combined pu sound doesn't make it. It would perhaps make a good guitar for a blues guy playing loud through a crappy amp. I've been spoiled by some fine guitars with a nice, articulate sound. This one doesn't do it for me at all.

I have Germino, Straub and Top Hat amps. They bring out the best in the guitars I have.

Very poor binding work for a guitar in this price range. Guitar Player magazine had the same thing to say when they reviewed some Kolls.

Mine looks good in pictures. It's featured on the Koll site and probably has sold more than a few guitars. It looks better than it sounds.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Honestly, I really don't play it. It sits in the case. (I should sell it). I have my go-to guitarsl. It seems a bit delicate, so one would have to be careful with it. But that's not a flaw, it's just the design of the guitar.

Delivery was longer than expected. I'm sure that in that time that more high profile players received their guiatrs on time as promised. I was actually told I'd be given a price reduction based on a time deadline formula. I received no deduction. I believe they may have thrown in the cheap case for free.

Overall Rating : 6
I've has some fine guitars custom built. This one was a disappointment. I'm not sure why Koll has such a stellar reputation. On the other hand, this is just my personal experience. They can't all be winners.

I've been playing 23 years, and I much prefer my Suhrs, Baker and McInturffs.

Made in Portland, OR by Saul Koll. He is a legendary builder and tech who plies his trade at the 12th Fret. If you need work on your thing, go see them as they are the best.

Mahogany body, crazy bound handcarved figured maple top. 24.625" scale mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard. Mother of pearl square-thumb inlays. Rio Grande P-90's.

This thing is really light weight considering the 'LP' mahog/maple deal.

Unbelievable balance and feel. So resonant you could play it as an acoustic.

I love open string work, playing with pick an fingers. But this thing will work for single note or pounding rhythm work too.

Using it with CE-2, Rat II and Z. Vex Ooh Wah. Amps are a '57 Tweed Princeton and BFSR.

Even with the P90's it is dead quiet.

Bell like tones. The body is so well tuned that you hear not just the pu's but the guitar itself. Very articulate.

The guy is a master. Wood choices impeccable. Fit and finish, custom quality.

I've only had it a week and I'm sure as 'we' get to know each other better there will be some adjustents I'll ask Saul to make for me.

Cool thing is, he'll be able to make them. He wants to know your style, then he will start tweeking just for you.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Brand new, well it was a requested piece at NAMM to show off some boutiqe amps, if that tells you anything.

This thing is strong, yet supple.

He is a master.

Been playing about 11 years. Mostly acoustic finger-style. Had a bunch of electrics, Klein, Strats, Tele, Jazzmaster, B-Benders, EB Sillhouette, etc.

I wanted a gutar at the other end of the tone sprectrum from my '52 RI Tele. Was looking at LP's, PRS, that sort. Was going the LP route, found an '88 STD that wasn't too heavy and sound OK. The I played Saul's guitar.

Don't buy an LP or any other clone if you care about and want great tone, from your guitar.

THIS IS THE 'LP' REPLACEMENT. His 'guitars' sound good. You can mess all you want with PU's... and yeah it will alter your tone, but, the best PU can't compensate for a bad/dead sounding guitar. Check him out, you will be amazed! Thanks Saul.

Custom hand made guitar from Portland, Oregon. Customers can select options to basically have the guitar built to their specs., mine is a hand carved top with f-hole, two TV Jones Filtertrons and "Gretsch" type control layout. Beautiful black burst finish, multiple binding, bigsby and waverly tuners. Jumbo frets, with split hump block inlays on the neck. The guitar is unique and original shape, but also familiar with some nods to great vintage guitars, and the art deco headstock is a very original great design, the guitar is definitely draws your attention, it looks fantastic. (The guitar's built by Koll have the features you request, I kept mine simple but it has everything I want or need.)

The guitar rocks, it is semi-hollow, so it breathes and give a D E E P transparent tone, I love the way it sounds plugged straight in, you don't need to hide behind any pedals. I enjoy 50's & 60's American rock & roll, this guitar will handle this with ease, and put many vintage guitars to shame. It plays like a charm. I would say this guitar will handle any style of music.

Saul Koll makes each by hand and sets them up and makes sure the details and adjustments are done, it arrives ready to go! The work is incredilbly fine, I have no second thoughts or regrets with my purchase, it was a very pleasant surprise to receive such a well built instrument. Saul is a real pro.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is still new, and I will take care to keep it that way, it is a gorgeous guitar that doesn't deserve abuse, but I imagine it would take it and keep on rocking. The work is solid and clean, I have no fear about performance.

Koll Guitars is a small company, you speak directly with the person building your guitar, and every effort is made to build the guitar you desire, what more do you want?

Overall Rating : 10
Buy one now so you have one of the future classics that vintage freaks will be looking for, not to mention the years of enjoyment in between. Do I like it? I plan on buying another one.
