Features : 10
Koll Guitars in Portland , OR USA made this custom Superglide for me.
The top is hand carved solid mahogany . The cool double cutaway body design is a chambered design. It is very light weight and well balanced. The neck is glued in and ,is a tapered thin neck of mahogany , with an ebony fingerboard. The mother of pear markers are small rectangles that are located on the top side of the fingerboard The guitar body has one custom moon phase hole, bound. The headstock has a unusual artsy retro shape , and the grover Imperial tuners are a touch off class. The body is bound, front and back ..to appear like a hollowbody. The clear deep black cherry finish is classic.
It has Three TV Jones filtertron mini humbucker pick ups (the best sounding filtertrons money can buy)
The pickups are controlled via a 5 way slider switch. There are two control knobs. The first knob is is a stacked dual 500K pot that controls the neck and middle pickup volume , and the other pot is a 500K pull pot that controls the bridge volume and the pull pot turns on the bridge pick up in a manner that allows any combination of pick up configurations. The bridge is a tune o matic type with small rollers . There is no stop tail as the strings are ferreled thru the body. I got all I asked for !!

Sound : 9
I wanted a guitar that sounded somewhat like a gretsch , so TV Jones made the filtertron pick ups for Saul Koll. I spoke with Tom about the sound I wanted and he custom wound the pick ups.
I play rock, country rock, and play open tuning improvs. I play thru Peavy classic 50 , line 6, and a Roland Jazz Chouris Amps.
The bridge pick up is sparkling and crisp ...no unwanted hum or noise on any of these pick ups.The middle pick up is smooth sounding , as if it were located at the neck . The Neck pick up is almost P90 sounding ...I love that.
The real beauty is combinding the pick ups . I like the combo of the neck with the bridge pick up, adjusted via the volume control such that the neck PU is the larger part of the sound , brightened by the bridge PUs sparkle. The neck pick up is a Jazzy sort of sound.. again almost single coil. This is more of a rock or country guitar . The bridge pick up works for sounds such as stills, Neil Young, Byrds, Petty, Beatles .... I must commend Saul Koll , as he made me what I wanted and ordered.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is Saul Kolls claim to fame ... The set up. The action is low with no string buzz. The neck is thin and easy to play. The fit and finish is better than top notch. i asked for a straight grain mahogany back and neck ...I got it. I asked for a lightly figured mahogany top , and Saul provided it. The bookmatching Saul does is something PRS and Gibson should look at. I own a 10 top PRS , and The matching and wood on Sauls guitars is better. I wish I could inclue a picture of the bezel around the neck pick up .The fingerboard has a jazz type point , and the bezel is shaped to fit around the neck point. There binding goes all around the guitar , neck and headstock.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have to say that I am mostly a home player. I would use my superglide to gig with if I played out. I own another Koll guitar, a couple years old , and have not had to make any adjustments.

Customer Support : 9
Saul is a good listener . Before , during and after the sale
I did not ask about the warranty , but I know Saul to be proud of his work / creations and willing to make adjustments. I changed the volume pot to a stacked pot... Saul asked me to return the guitar and said he would make the mod. I did not use Saul only because the freight would have been more than the new tone pot was locally.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 25+ years. I have many guitars ,2 PRS hollowbodies (I dislike that the finish is sinking on them, beware) A couple Gretschs,2 Godins,3 Gibsons,3 Epiphones,a Yamaha,a Martin, 2 McElroys,2 Taylors, a McInturff,2 Andersons ... and have had too many others ot list.
I am very impresed with Kolls quality, action ,sound, fit and finish . Would I replace it ?...OH YEA In fact I have another on ordered .All figured maple carved top, chambered maple body with mahogany internal rails, different humbucker pick ups , for a different sound and a different tail pc, and a LR Baggs piezo bridge. I sold 2 60s Gretsch , a 1980 Hamer , a Gibson 335 Studio, and a Rick 12 to purchase Koll Custom Guitars. They have the feel, quality and sound that is beyond their price.
I will be happy to send jpegs of the 2 Koll guitars I had made !!!
