Birthdate-1978. The style of case proves it, from sites I've seen.
I fabbed a custom pickguard from 1/8" plex, black paint and gold leaf.
Soapbar passive humbuckers. I rewired it myself and put a killswitch on each pickup, wired the tone full hot and put the volume knob back out of the way.
I played sousaphone, so the thing doesn't seem THAT heavy!
Solid maple - super thick lacquer-still nice and shiny.
Put goldtone PING tuners on when plastic back of originals met a wall one day and shattered. Looks nice against the aluminum fork headpiece - the slot in the headpiece will hold a 49 ring lit cigar no problem!
It's a cinderblock with strings. You can chop onions on it, too.

Sound : 9
I string it with mediums - 11 or 13 even tops.Light sproingy strings just don't seem to do the trick.
Sustains for yeeeeeears.
Bright as headlights on full.
Most of my stompboxes are old analog things-I really like what happens when I kick in an octaver for a solo-MEATY!
One more thing-this guitar is LOUD when unplugged.I've used is as a miked acoustic just for giggles. Few solidbodies will do that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The thing eats G strings. I've filed and buffed the tailpiece slot but it still works 'em over.
Nice wide Gibson like neck for my fatass fingers. Hammer-ons ring out like you've picked them.
The null fret is a tad chewed-maybe Santa Claus will re fret it for me someday...
The finish is yellowing beautifully. They don't slop on the lacquer like that any more!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar could kick Godzilla's ass.
It's gotta be 8 or 9 lbs-heavier than any puny les paul.
It'll withstand buckshot at 10 feet, cracking walnuts, and getting run over by a semi.

Kramer's tits up.

Overall Rating : 10
it's my main axe - I was tickled to see one like it in a video by the Les Claypool side gig Sausage for the tune Riddles Will Abound Tonight.
Nothing sustains like this beast-nothing.
If it were stolen I'd find another just like it.

I think this is a 250G the ser # is 50138, probably from '76 or '77 when Kramers were still made in NJ. Aluminum Neck, Koa wood body, one voume, one tone, one 3-way pick up switch to switch between 2 single coil Hamer passive pickups. The fingerboard is Ebonal (I'm told that's what bowling balls are made from and I fully believe it because this guitar weighs a freakin' ton). The neck is flat and wide like a classical guitar. I got it with the original hardshell case which is still in great shape.

Sound : No Opinion
The attack on this guitar is mean, shocking. I hit a chord and it felt like the guitar hit me back. Much different feel from a guitar with a wooden neck. It sustains for days. The kramer single coil pickups are amazing, brutal high end and but can still deliver rich warm tones.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action on this guitar is high enough to accomodate 11 gauge strings with no buzzing. The intonation is perfect after 25 years. The nut is aluminum, not much on this guitar that is going to break or warp over time. The koa wood body is in great shape, only normal wear from beltbuckle and vigorous strumming.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will withstand live playing, It will withstand anything you can do to it. The hardware is tough. Koa wood is hard and heavy and on top of that it seems to have about 18 coats of finish. This guitar will outlive me, definatlely.

I've been playing for 12 years before this my number one guitar was a Fender Lead I, now the fender is my back-up. I love the unique tone, sustain and attack on this guitar. The biggest problem I have with this guitar is the balance is way off, the neck weighs more than the body and find myself supporting the neck when I should just be playing. I think this guitar was modeled after the Travis Bean 500. It's really under valued on the collectors market so aspiring hipsters can pick up a tough as nails aluminum neck guitar for much less than a Bean.

i believe this guitar is a 250G but not exactly possitive it has no markings on it but it is a solid body two piece maple body with an aluminum neak and tunning fork headstock the pick up selction is two humbkers 3 way switch but it has taps for each hum ebonite fingerboard and two volume knobs and two tone nobs.

Sound : 9
This guitar has a very rich bottom end and when i tap my coils i get a very good lead sound, very creamy. I run this guitar through an ampeg G-410 from 1973 the amp has no distortion but i use danelectro effects i have the cool cat, fab tone, daddy o, and dan echo. I also use cry baby wah original. and that makes some of the best sounds i have heard. this guitar reminds me of a PRS because of its double cutaway small hors pickup set up with coil taps.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the finish is natural maple it looks very thick and rich, someone took there time when they laquered this one. the neck is a little to fat to be perfect i mostly play my custom esp so going back and forth between the two is definatly noticable.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I had read another review on this guitar where they said that the schallers were not factory well mine are and any guitar that comes with sperzles, schallers or grovers is made to be played and is reliable the tuners stay in tune well and the nut has never been repalced and is still kicking before i had bought it the man i bought itn from had thrown it down at a drunken gig and there are no cracks just a nick in the finish. if that dopesn't tell you it is road worthy i dont know what would.

1978/1979 USA 6 string solidbody guitar. Aluminum neck w/tuning fork headstock. Clear finish 2 piece maple (somewhat birdseye-ish), maple neck insertions, ebonole (bowling ball material) fretboard. Master volume and tone controls, 3 way switch (treble/parallel/rhythm), 2 Kramer SC pickups, front loaded on a black scratchplate. The bridge resembles a hardtail Fenderbridge, no strings thru body. Body shape is like oldie BC-Riches, really fat with short horns. Mine has non-standard Schaller tuners. The neck scale is Gibson like, 24.75" ? it also features a null-fret and a metal nut

Sound : 9
I use this guitar with a Session Rockette:30 and a Music Man HD130 w/London City cab. On both amps the sparkling high and gigantic amounts of harmonics really sing! The pickups aren't very loud and there is an odd difference in volume/sound between the bridge (thin and soft) and the neck (full/warm and loud) pickups. But the sound itself is truly stunning, nothing at all like any guitar i've ever played, really jangly, a bit like a Rickenbacker. It has an absolutely gigantic sustain, well over 30 secs. Intonation seems quite allright, the action is somewhat high, but not uncomfortable. The only real problem is that it is really hummy.. You really need to switch off everything that causes magnetic interference... The only reason it doesn't get a 10 for this category

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Everything still looks great, in 22 years the varnish has become a bit yellow/amber, very nice indeed. The top isn't really bookmatched, but still the maple looks quite amazing. The former user obviously wasn't a careful player, but she survived with grace!

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar will withstand live playing, actually, it'll withstand everything. It's built to last several lifetimes :-) The finish is great too. Though there has been obvious abuse by former player(s), everything still shines... It's ultra dependable. I wouldn't take it on a gig without a backup, but that's because i constantly break strings (no doubt due to my playing style)

Kramer seems to be fully out of business...

Overall Rating : 10
I own a small amount of guitars, oldie ES345 Ibanez, Rickenbacker 430, Epi Les Paul customized, etc. The Kramer really fits into my playing style (experimental/noise). I love the way it looks, i love the way it sounds... if it were stolen i'd definitly would go look for another one. It's back-breaking heavy, but it's sure worth the pain!
