January 2006, enough frets to keep ya busy (24 I suppose)
Engelman spruce top, rosewood back/sides, Florintine cut
Beautiful "sunburst" finish...more tobacco burst to my eye
Great NITRO CEL laquer finish...I prefer matte finish neck, but the Langejans 'laquer' don't bother me one bit!
Schaller gold tuners really accent this guitar nicely
L.R. Baggs electronics are neatly hidden from view. NO cuts in the body for other EQ crap! That's a big PLUS.

Flat out... one of the BEST and most memorable sounding guitars I have ever heard in my 45 years of playing! Cannot say 'legendary' yet, but IMHO it will become legendary.
I own a Goodall (2) and have owned Taylors, Martins, Santa Cruz, and have played more than I care to admit. I trying to sell one to afford a Langejans(?) I know..its a new name, but thats how impressed I am by this great luthier's work.
The tone is what this guitar is about. The bass is loud and bell like. Mids are powerful, treble...sweet and powerful too. If I had tow sum it up with one word: POWERFUL...Two words: SUSTAIN

Action is a bit high, but thats adjustable...I would rather have it a bit high with room to work it lower.
Perfectly matched bookmark Engelman spruce top
Deep beautifully grained rosewood back/sides
Rosewood NECK with ebony board (unlaquered)...I almost forgot
NITRO-CEL laquer finish, over under, sideways , etc. excpt for the ebony fingerboard
Absolutely no flaws that these middle-aged eyes could see
The guitar is heavier than the average...probably the rosewood neck,
but the balance is right.

Built like a tank! Heavy as one too...just joking,,,but it is noticably heavier for a reason: The thicker and more dense rosewood.
Lifetime warranty for original owner says it all!
Strap buttons: Check solid and ready
Back up? Only if I performed professionally. This thing does not need an amp...it projects like a shot gun.
It's an acoustic guitar, so it's less likely to 'fail'

Anybody that displays his phone number on their web or their product is the epitome of 'customer support. The heritage Company of Kalamazoo does. So does Carr Amps...probably others, but not too many.
I hear that Del Langejans is great to talk to and is willing to discuss guitars 12/6...Sunday you might find him in church.

Playing as a professional tone questor/lifetime student for 45 years!
Ain't mine yet, but if I do purchase this particular R-6 would be tough to replace...its tone is that unique in comparison to other
R-6 models by Del Langejans
Maybe a matte fnish neck, but it would be a crime to rough up the beautiful laquer finish. I could get used to the laquered neck...its really that good.
I have always believed in buying an acoustic guitar that you can get yer money out of. e.g Martin. But this guitar is different....it's got the RIGHT STUFF to make me rethink that philosophy. Still weighing the Langjans R-6 against a Martin J-42...decisions decisions

My R6 was made in '94 so it is nicely aged. Del Langejans guitars are handmade in New Holland, Mi. The R6 is Del's signature model. It has a solid engleman spruce top with significant bear claws. The back and sides are select quartersawn indian rosewood. (I have to make a point here. A lot of fuss is made over Brazilian rosewood. However, much of the Brazilian that's being used is face sawn. This is very poor. It shows beautiful figuring but is unsuitable for luthier work. Oh well...)The neck is mahagony with rosewood in the heel block and peg head. The peg head veneer is ebony. So is the fret board, bridge and pins.)It has gold plated schaller tuners. It is a wide waist, slope shoulder dreadnaught. Very understated elegance with abalone trim. I rate it a 9. Some guitars may have fancier presentation (but less class).

The Langejans has a dark tone, with rich bass. The trebles have distinct character. Notes are very clearly defined. It has volumous sound and easily competes with quality Martins. It has great sustain. The bass just hangs there all day.

The woods are neatly bookmatched, with great straight grain. No re-entrants in the grain that I can discern. The woods are very high quality (although some luthiers are not fussy about bear claws, I think the express character). In any event, the jury's out regarding their effect on tone. It is clearly a handmade guitar. There are some evidences of the craftsman.

It's stood up nicely so far. I finger pick so it's difficult to say how it would stand up to hard playing. It suits my use nicely. Everything seems solid. It did need a basic $50 setup after 7 years of playing. Not much else.

I haven't dealth with Del directly although he comes well recommended from all accounts. It has a lifetime warranty. I've never had cause to investigate that.

I am more interested in guitar construction than playing. I am a casual player. I would definitely buy it again. We have taylors, martins, gibsons, takamines and guilds in this house. The Langejans is the best of the lot. I give it a 9. I need to leave room for something better that may come along.
