I have a stunning 2001 RGC6 with East Indian Rosewood back and sides and a Western Red Ceder top. The guitar also has a rosewood neck which is a rather unique feature of many of Del's instruments. Hardware is all top of the line with gold plated and ebony Schaller tuners, unslotted bone tuning pegs, and an LR Baggs Dual Source Piezo & Microphone pickup system.

Sound : 10
Built deeper than an average guitar of this type - lending to an enormous sound for a grand concert guitar. Warm, full, but balanced with an almost piano like tone. Langejans has a unique sound that is hard to explain in words - multi-textured comes to mind. All I can say is you'd be hard pressed to find a better sound, different perhaps, but not better. Check out Phil Keaggy's Acoustic Sketches CD to hear a Langejans in the hand of a master.

A masterpiece. Literally could be display in the Smithsonian. Mine is just stunning with curly maple binding and complex ornamentation, including abalone and mother-of-pearlshell inlays. The neck has doves as fret markers descending the neck in an in flight twist capped off with a headstock with dark to light wood gradient. Added to all of this is a top that has a slight bearclaw texture. Even with all of this ornamentation the guitar does not look gaudy and is very understated in its elegance.

Crazy but true story. Day guitar was delivered the UPS truck was involved in an accident and the contents were ejected onto the interstate where they bounced into a ditch - including my guitar. Obviously I was mortified when UPS contacted me. They delivered the guitar, I opened the box and the guitar looked unharmed and was still in tune! To be sure I took the guitar to a well respected guitar repairman who inspected the entire guitar inside and out and gave it a clean bill of health. He actually said that in the 40 years he'd been in business the Langejans was the finest instrument he'd ever encountered.

Del is just a fantastic guy. If there is a problem or a question, you can call and talk to the actual maker of the instrument. Try that with a factory made instrument...

Overall Rating : 10
Simply one of the finest acoustic guitars available by a modern master builder. I love all kinds of guitars and don't believe you can pigeon hole one instrument or maker as "the best." However, when you get to this level with makers such as Del Langejans, James Olson, Kevin Ryan etc, you can truly say that your dealing with the best guitars available. As far as value... well, it ain't cheap. But, Del's guitars have been always been priced quite reasonably compared to his master builder contemporaries. Del has a real heart for making his instruments accessible to those of us who are working musicians as opposed to rich hobbyists. (however, if you are a rich hobbyist, I'm sure he'll take your order too :-)

Just got a Langejans RGC-6. Has the LR Baggs Duet II pickup, no outer battery compartment. (my choice) Beautiful wood grains from the Indian Rosewood back to the Bearclaw spruce top, to the beautiful dark grain on the neck. I chose a satin type finish. Sharp cutaway adds the final touch to a beautiful wooden masterpiece.

Sound : 10
Wonderful tone. I mean I have heard few that compare. Crisp, clear, yet deep and balanced. Open chords are gorgeous. If it has any flaw it would be it is too pretty of a sound. As langejans are known for harmonics just ring out. I wouldn't say mine is 'very' loud, but it is so clear and full of life that it cuts through a mix. I play in a group that does pop/rock to broken down acoustic driven songs.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Out of the box it had great action and an overall very proffessional setup. At first some of the lower frets were buzzing. (I requested a fairly low actioned acoustic) After a while I adjusted my playing and it seemed to fix it. Finish is very nice. I prefer very natural wood tones and grain, which is just what I got. Sometimes you can tell different woods were used for different pieces. At first I felt that was a negative, but really it's handmade and one of a kind. And that's what sets it apart anyway. Great craftmenship.

Reliability/Durability : 9
So far the guitar has tested well. Like many acoustics you can tell it wants to be taken care of. Slight changes can cause certain strings to hint at a buzz. But it never sacrifices sound. Wonderful quality wood, built hard and tough. This is my only acoustic I carry.

Del and Ruthie are great people. Always answer queries fast. Del takes pride in being professional in all aspects. Lifetime warranty that doesn't include normal wear. Del is one of the best at repairs. I only give it a 9 because I haven't had any serious problems to test yet.

It's hard to pick everything you would ever want when ordering a guitar like this. Kind of wish I had specified (curly) curly maple on the binding. But the wood is still pretty so can't complain. Absolutely great guitar to buy. Sound is just premium, look is very personal, people are great. Is there a perfect guitar out there? Probably not, but this is as close as I have seen.

I had the privilege to visit Del's guitar store many times in the past but never thought I'd be able to afford one. Still can't believe I have one now, but I am certainly very very glad and thankful. I waited for six months for this Rosewood Grand Concert. It has Cedar top, a sharp cutaway and LRBaggs Duet II pickup. Customized abalone inlays on fingerboard and top. Ebony headstock, fingerboard, bridge, gloss finish. Rosewood Neck and 1 3/4" at nut, standard 15.5" lower-bout and 5" deep body (bigger than most traditional grand concerts).

Sound : 9
Deep sound as most people who have played Langejans guitars would say. Since the body is quite deep, the sound is quite loud. Sustain is great. Very balanced and responsive to harmonics. Sounds incredible in alternate tunings!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar is setup well. Fingerboard and frets and very well done, action is adjusted well and so it is very easy to play. Haven't had time to fully try the pick-up yet, but this is my second Baggs pickup and I really like them a lot. The Cedar wood is beautiful. Details and finish on the guitar is very well done.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Only had it for a month... I think this guitar will last me for a very very long time. It does look much much more solid than any of the other guitars I have ever owned or seen.

Customer Support : 10
Del's sales team is excellent! They respond very fast to any inquiries I have had (and I did have many questions over the course of the ordering) and are very knowledgable. I am currently living in Singapore and the communication was not sacrificed even while we are literally half a globe apart. I would have given an 11 if I can. :)

Been playing for 14 years. I have been playing a high-end Seagull for 6 years. But after having my new Langejans in my house for a month, I realized that my Seagull just simply can't compare to this. As I was sharing with my wife, it's like driving a Hyundai for the longest time and now suddenly I am driving a Mercedes (not to say that Hyundai is a bad car, but the difference is too great). :) I can see why some people who have the resource would go want to buy more than one Langejans. Overall, I would say this is a very well-sounding and beatifully-handcrafted guitar.

Del Langejans is a luthier in Michigan, who produces some excellent instruments played by artists Phil Keaggy, Peter Frampton, and many others. I was drawn to the Langejans after listening intently to Keaggy's album "Acoustic Sketches". My Langejans has a rosewood back and sides, and an Engleman top. The neck is made of solid rosewood and is 14 frets clear to the body. It has a soft cutaway, a $300 option. The only other option was dot fretmarkers and a clear pickguard. The body style is a Grand Concert, similar in specs to a Taylor x14 body style, except that it is 5" deep at the lower waist. That's almost 3/4 of an inch deeper than most other brands. I ordered no electronics with mine, but have installed a PUTW passive soundboard transducer.

Sound : 10
The sound is very deep and full, much like a good dreadnought. In comparison to my Goodall, it is not as loud but much fuller in sound. The action was medium high when I received it, and I sanded down the saddle to lower it. It has a great deal of harmonics and the sound is incredible. When I play, I can feel the bass much more than any other grand concert sized instrument I've played. The neck width is the same as my Goodall at 1 3/4 at the nut, but the width at the saddle is slightly narrower. I could have speced something different, but didn't think about that option when I ordered it. In my fingerstyle of playing, I'd have preferred a little more spread at the saddle. That is perhaps my only dislike of the instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Del's instruments are all handmade. He does all the work except for the finishing which is done by a local shop. There are few and small evidences of the handmade nature of this instrument which don't bother me in the least. But in comparing to a an almost totally factory made instrument like the Taylor, or a partially hand made instrument like the Goodall, you will find small things like a bit of excess glue on the inside or discoloration on the Langejans. Again, to me this is not a negative. Knowing that this instrument was made with 'old world' craftmanship only enhances its value to me. The wood is superb, and the solid rosewood neck is incredibly pretty.

Reliability/Durability : 10
A Langejans is built like a truck...not afraid of it being weak in any manner. Del himself told me it could withstand any guage strings, which is unlike many other grand concert sized instruments on the market. It will be around a long time.

Customer Support : 10
You're dealing with just Del, and he stands behind his product. He only has 3 dealers, so getting in touch with him is not difficult. He offers a lifetime warranty. And in my thinking, this guitar will probably outlast him. But I hope that Del will be building for many years to come...he's a great guy.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing over 35 years and also play a Goodall and a Taylor. I've owned many Taylors. This is one of the finest two guitars I've ever owned, and I'd order another one. Del's waiting time is about 6 months or more. The only thing I'd change is the spacing on the strings at the saddle...my oversight completely.
