This is a Lotus L680.I got this guitar about two years ago, its balck it looks like a David Gilmour singature strat copy and love it. i'm not for sure what year it was made in or where it was made because i cant track down the serial number anywhere. It has 22 frets and there is a very small amount of fret buzz , you can notice it the you dont't play it on an amp.i dont know if its a sloid, most likley it is, but it could be plywood. It has a 5 way toggle switch, and one volume knob nd two tone switches. Now for the pick-ups are quite old they have some rust. I think they're stacked double coil Humbuckers. Not all of the positions for the toggle dont work, only four work. There are three total pickups. the only thing i know about the pickups are that they might be Humbuckers. They are active pick-ups, i'm 95 percent sure on that. The neck is a solid one piece maple neck, i dont know what the fret board is. the body is like maple or plywood. THE BLACK FINISH IS INDESTRUCTABLE! The body is a strat copy, it looks better than most Strats, and shes looks sexy, black with a golden neck and silver tuning knobs. the neck is a 'C' shaped neck., its a fast neck for me and its great. itcame with a Peavy Rage 168 and an Ernie Ball strap, with 8 gauge strings and the original whammy bar.

Sound : 10
I play metal, and classic rock. My two main band that i play is METALLICA, and Judas Priest.Tish guitar has an incredible bite sound. it barks and growls(whenn i play it on an amp and use distortion) When i play it through my Peavey Rage 168 or my Crate amp on the clean channel, it has a warm sound. it would sound crisp if you played blues or jazz, but i play metal. when this is plugged into an amp it gets a lot of feedback, more than it should. I love this guitar and i won't trade it for a guitar ten times its value, this is my first guitar. the only thing i dont agree with on it is the bridge. the bridge is a standard.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
There is nothing wrong with the finish, or the pick-ups(except for the fact that the neck pick-ups is rusted). I can adjust the height of the pick-ups.the neck is a little wobbly when you move it with a lot of force, like whrn you hit it on a wall or drop it. it doesn't affect the sound at all. The finish is indestructable like i said before. it tried to chip it, but there's like a millimeter of paint on it. it black and has scratches from the use over the years. the strap pegs are loose, but i put toothpicks in them and put the peg back in the hole and it works fine.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar would withstand re-entering the earth's atmosphere. i dont have a band so i don't play live, but it would work very well at live shows. this guitar is like mabey 15 years old, i don't know but the hardware still has a shine on it and the knobs are now more of a cream color, they used to be white. the pick-ups which ere also white have now faded to a cream color. yes i can depend on this guitar. its just perfect. If i had a band and was at gig yes i would use it without a back up, but i want a back up to make me look even cooler cause i got two guitars, but yes i would use it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
the company that made it isnt around anymore. i got it at a pwan shop so there is no warrenty. i have not had to get this guitar repared, but the owner before me may have, i dont know.

Overall Rating : 10
I got it in 2007 but didn't start playing more heavily, and more frequent untill August of 2008. My other gear is a Peavy Rage 168, and a Crate Flexwave amp. i use only Ernie Ball regular slinky 10 gauge strings and am going to try Power Slinky, like the ones Kirk Hammett of METALLICA uses. If this guitar were to be stolen i'd would try to find it again and buy it if i could. but if i couldn't buy it i would buy another guitar to try to replace it, but NOTHING ever could. this guitar is a gift from the gods to me, i absolutely love it.

Made in India. Black, s-s-s, 5-way switch, floating tremolo, v-t-t, just a very cheap strat copy, but i like strats so thats fine. Nothing has a name, its just there.

Sound : 6
I play anything, but surf is my favorite in the last month or so. It suits my music fine. I can kick it around and not have to worry about it. I use a Kay amp, various EH, Dano, and Rocktek pedals. It sounds good in the bridge with the rocktek distortion, for any Creedance fans out there. noisy, though, and the tones are almost useless. Just doesn't sound good with most other effects, though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The action was almost impossible to play fpr a very long time. Lighter strings and much lower saddles took care of that, but it is still harder than many of my friends guitars. Finish is indestructable. My pocket knife scratched it, but when the finish came off, the wood was weak. noisy electronics and selector, poor frets, had to deepen the nut myself, tremolo takes it out of tune in a wiggle.

Reliability/Durability : 5
Its not broken yet, but it is starting to crack around the back and it has a very worn pickguard (it got too close to a psycho with a hand drill). it is not my first choice in dependability, And i would much rather have another, better model (even a Squier). Solid, but not an inviting guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 5
It is a good first guitar, but the limited parts availability is a setback. If your buying a first guitar, 20$ more can get you a bottom dollar Squier, and you can change anything on that. If stolen, who cares? one less guitar to haul to rehearsals and the occasional gig. It needs either better singles or a good humbucker in the bridge and neck, And the holes for the bridge arent deep enough to properly set. not good consistency instrument to instrument (this is my second and much better, got it on warranty when the first one broke).

First, a little story as to why my knowledge of this instrument is limited.

Once upon a time--two years ago--I was doing heavy yardwork [trimming, mowing, cutting down trees with a handaxe] for $4 an hour to get my first guitar. I had been playing for half a year already, but was using my dad's gibson acoustic. Then, that November, my guitarist friend up and gives me his Lotus L680 for my birthday. Surprise!!

This is what I know: standard strat shape, 21 frets solid top, five way selector with one volume and two tone controls, three no name single coils, crimsonburst finish with a white perloid pickguard [so choice], standard strat-type tremolo [mine is missing the arm], no name tuners, moderate neck, all with chrome hardware. Your classic, cheap, beginner guitar.

A rating of 5, to me at least, means AVERAGE. Not really good or really bad, just solid. I give it a six for it's neat finish.

Sound : 9
With two tone controls and three single coils, changing your sound is pretty easy. You need the fabled Guitarist's Ear to recognize the slight changes in tone when you're messing with the knobs and selector.

If you're looking for a full, rich, gorgeous sound like that of a PRS, Parker, or Gibson, then look elsewhere. However, if you're looking for a distinctive sound for cheap, here's your man. Give this baby a fuzz box and you'll get the oddest grind. Despite my 2.5 years of playing, I have one [functional] amp and one [functional] pedal. The Fender Twin Reverb [original, not the reissue], and the Zoom 505 [don't...say...a thing]. A good amp gives it good sound, and that pretty much goes for any guitar. Unless it's REALLY bad.

I give it a 9 because of my personal affinity towards it. Others may consider it a 5-7.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I got this guitar after it was extensively used and abused, so everything I say here will not apply to yours if you buy it new.

Although I love this guitar like my firstborn, I...er...dropped it...once. Or twice. Anyway, one time I propped it up against a bed or something, and gravity decided to mess with things by making it slid right off. The neck was completely misaligned. I mean seriously. You don't have to be a tech or luthier to figure it out, it was plain as day. As a result, anything beyond the fourth fret was virtually unplayable as a result of the obscene action. By the time you got the 12th fret, the string were about an inch off of the fretboard, and that is no exaggeration.

Anyway, after tooling with it for about a month, I finally decided to take the neck off, and see why I couldn't get it straight. Apparently, my friend who owned it before me had had some problems with the neck as well, because the top two screws of the bolt-on part had stripped the wood, allowing it fall out of place. With a little advice from complete strangers, I opted to risk the health of my baby and put toothpicks in the holes so the screws would fit themselves onto it. Whaddya know, it worked like magic. With a little more bridge adjustment, the action was A-okee dokee.

Other problems include the lack of a tremolo arm, lack of a selector switch cover, and barely noticeable bumps and scratches.

I give it a 6 because it is still serviceable. Just somewhat damaged. Remember, this rating applies to my specific guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar could play live without a doubt. I personally would not use it as my main axe, because I have an RG470 to do that deed for me. However, I would still use it for a song or two because of its distinctive tone. The hardware is good and solid. It's hardware, what do you want? The finish is thick as all hell. This guitar was been dropped and scratched and bumped and there is still no chipped paint. There are bumps, of course, but no exposed wood. I depend on it, but I wouldn't use it at a gig without a backup, as previously mentioned. It would not be main guitar.

It gets an 8 because it's a rugged music playing device that I cherish.

Customer Support : 3
Lotus gets a 3 here because I can not seem to find any information on how to contact them. They also have no website. Booo, Lotus. It's the year 2000, Lotus, get your act together. Way to be archaic.

Overall Rating : 10
I said this elsewhere, but I have been playing for 2.5 years, and I own limited gear because I'm perpetually broke. There's really no way to be dissapointed because, after all, I didn't spend any money. If it were stolen, I would find the thief and impale him with the headstock. I don't think anyone would steal it, though. It's not really a mid-range guitar by anyone's standards. If I lost it, I would kick myself for everyday that I couldn't find it.

I love this guitar because it inspires me. I play differently on my Lotus than any other guitar. I can't really explain it. My only real complaint about it is that it's really beaten up. When [notice I say "when" and not "if] I am in a band with a lot of money, I will have Lotus custom-make me one of these, same finish and pickguard.

I would never sell my Lotus, for nostalgic reasons, mostly. I just like the way it plays, and nothing can compare to your first guitar. NOTHING. I give it a 10 because it's more faithful than girls. That's not really saying much, though. I give it a 10 because it's sturdy, distinctive, and not cheap. Thank you and goodnight.

This is probably an early to mid 90's make from Korea or somewhere cheap. It's got 21 jumbo frets on a rosewood fretboard and mother of pearl inlay. The body is a definite strat copy, but trust me, this isn't just any other guitar. Pickup config = S/S/S no names; definitely passive electronics with a 5-way selector. As far as I can tell, the body is ash (primo wood) and maple neck. I picked a powder blue body w/ mother of pearl pickguard, although there are other styles available. All the hardware is factory direct (no name again) in a chrome plating. Non-locking tuners, and regular whammy bar. Since I purchased this as a package deal, I got a generic gig bag, a cable, and a cheap Kustom amp.

Sound : 10
I like to play mostly rock and some punk, so this guitar suits me just fine. Typically, since I run it through a Mesa Blue Angel, it always sounds great, but that always hasn't been the case... although there is a wide variety of tones available, I would suggest tooling about and finding the sound you like the best. Sometimes, it takes a while. The guitar sounds best through a tube emulator (distortion that sounds like it comes from a tube amp), while it sounds just crappy on any overdrive pedal, go with classic tube distortion; I prefer the Danelectro Fab Tone. Also, the Morely Bypass Wah works wonders with this baby. Basically, this is a very versatile guitar, so experiment a whole lot. Right now, I'm doing pretty good at sounding like Tom Morello.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I did have to adjust the action to my liking, as the production line at the factory sucked. All the screws were loose and needed to be tightened. The machine heads came loose, but that was expected as the price dictated. Also, the pickup selector is noisy, but then again, it probably does need to be replaced. Everything else is fine, the head fits, but it comes equiped with string trees, so it's up to you to leave them on or take them off.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is my main gig axe. It has withstood the wear and tear of four years of garage bands and two years of playing live. The hardwar will probably need to be replaced in a few years, but I do play hard. The threads on the whammy stripped a few times and needed replacement, but that's about it. There is literally an inch of paint on this baby, and is almost impossible to remove. Yes, the strap buttons are solid, but never, EVER EVER play a gig without a backup guitar unless you want to tempt fate.

Customer Support : 3
Trouble is, I can never seem to get in touch with the company. I don't even know if they have an e-mail account. Anyway, so far I've never needed professional repair; I've always managed to do it myself. There was a two year extenden warranty that I never applied for, so whatever.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for abour six years, since I was thirteen. I own a Morely Bypass Wah, a Danelectro Fab Tone, and a Mesa Blue Angel. Thats it really, oh, and a few hundred feet of cord, Chances are, if this guitar were stolen, I would cry. It's my baby and I love it. I would try to find it, but if I couldn't, I would save up for something with a Floyd Rose. It's my first guitar and I love everything about it. The only problem is the cheap machine heads. I didn't have too much experience in guitars when I bought this one, but I'm glad I did. I like the low action and feel of the fretboard. I'm pretty pleased with it's preformance so far, and I hope it lasts a while longer. Sure, it's not the greatest or most expensive guitar out there, but it's definitely the most versatile and if you want to invest a little more time and money, you can make it a great guitar. I would suggest changing out the pickups for something a little nicer.

This guitar was made in Korea, probably in the 90s. 21 good-sized, surprisingly nice frets. Somewhat rounded fretboard- not as round as an old strat, but not as flat as a gibson. I'd guess at 9.5" radius. 1 volume (master), 2 tones. 3 single coil pickups. tone controls: 1 on neck, 1 on middle. Generic pickups- no writing or anything on them. Passive electronics. 1 piece maple neck, not sure of body material, but it's a strat-style body in 3 pieces- probably basswood or poplar. not too heavy. easy on my shoulder. Not a stellar finish- kinda thick, but does its job. It's a "blue pearlburst", and looks sparkley and cool. Standard strat copy, strat-style trem bridge. Cheap tuners- no brand name. not bad, though. somewhat large 25.5" scale neck. good sized, comfortable. 2 string retainers on non-tilt headstock. (this is how i bought it (stock)- i have modded it with a seymour duncan bridge humbucker- a JB, sperzel locking tuners, took off string retainers (cheap ones, anyway, and i don't think they do anything but send my guitar out of tune.). also, i blocked off the bridge because i'm not a whammy fan, and it helped the stability of the whole guitar- a little rattly before).

Sound : 7
the single coils aren't great, but aren't bad either. i actually replaced the bridge p.u. with a seymour duncan JB humbucker, giving it a better, quieter sound all around. giutar feeds back too easily (probably due to lack of shielding under pickguard and/or cheap wiring). as i said, the humbucker helped with noise (in all pickup positions). good clean sound, not a stellar distortion, but not bad for a $250 guitar. electronics work and sound good. i play through a marshall jcm 600, and it sounds relatively full and articulate. the single coils are a little dark (the neck one is, anyway).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
large frets, real nice- no rough edges along the sides of the neck. good sized neck- just right. not too big or small. pickups at a good height. i bought this from a friend, so this may have something to do with it, but great for a $250 guitar. Good action. a little high for some people, but to me it's just right. you gotta keep 5th and 6th strings kinda high 'cuz they'll rattle above the 12th fret. intonation easy to adjust. bridge saddles not great, and will unwrap super roundwound strings (ghs boomers, DRs). bridge a little wobbly (that's why i blocked it off). otherwise, a rock solid guitar that's given me few problems.

Reliability/Durability : 9
very durable- played a show with it and it was fine. good harware, for the most part (i replaced the tuners with sperzel locking to help tuning stability). also, the string retainers are cheap- i took them off 'cuz i don't think they do anything. string pressure is just great, and tuning is a lot better. tuning was the main problem with this guitar, but was never horrible. thicker strings help, and overzealous bends are bad with the stock tuners. strap buttons are non-locking, but very solid. finish is a little on the thick side, but will stand up to bumps and doesn't seem to impede on tone. very dependable- you could definitely gig without a backup with out much of a worry.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt...

Overall Rating : 9
been playing 2.5 years. i also got a 1989 fender (us made) deluxe strat plus, and i like both guitars equally. like i said, the bridge humbucker and locking tuners REALLY help- locking tuners on any guitar are a must for me 'cuz i hate restringing. no patience. if it were stolen/lost, i would probably get a different, higher caliber guitar, but this guitar is an INCREDIBLE value, and no beginner or person looking for a spare or something fun to work on should pass one of these up. easy to play, rock solid, sounds pretty good, no real weak spots. i really liked this guitar when i played it at my friend's. when i bought it i'd been playing 3 months, and this was my first electric. i love it. i just wish the headstock tilted, the bridge was fixed from the beginning, and the single coils were more lively. also, the shielding/wiring could be a little less noisy. a real diamond in the rough. with so many BAD cheap (inexpensive, that is) guitars, it's nice to see a quality, value priced instrument on the market. i've had it over 2 years, and don't plan on selling it.

Nothing really special here. Three really bad single coil pickups. One vol, two tone. The usual.Pretty sure it made of plywood, though it is as heavy as a Les paul.Odd. Cheap but good tuners.Thick I really mean thick neck. 21 frets.Just a plain start copy.

Sound : 5
The single coils sound thin and noisy. And it does not really fit my grungy, muddy style. But if I crank the low and the high on my amp and blast the overdrive it comes near to the sound I want. The tone does nothing really ,so it sounds the same pretty much no mater what you do.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
When I got this guitar it was so scerwed up.the neck was warped, the bridge was damaged. The action was, lets just say odd.But the finsh was great, and now that I have had the problems fixed, I would and do trust this guitar. I've grown quite attached to it.I would give it a 4 when I got it. But now I give it a 8

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is where this guitar shines. This is the toughest guiat I have ever played.I've banged it into walls, chairs, cars and countless other things, and besides for pick marks it still looks great.I belive everything on this guitar can survive whatever I throw at it.This became very clear to me when it survived my band final song.It amazed me.

Overall Rating : 8
If this guitar got stolen it would bother me but I wouldn't go psycho or anything.I wish it had humbucklers.I love the reliability but I hate the pickups, but they can be changed. As cheap as it is,i love this guiat for some reason. But I wouldn't recomend this guitar over a fender or gibson or PRS.

A typical strat-copy: 1 volume, 2 tone nobs, 3 single coil pickups, traditional strat style bridge. It has a rosewood neck, and a pearl pickguard. No frills here, just a basic guitar.

Sound : 7
It has a definite Strat sound to it (miostly from the single coils). As of today, I use it through a Sovtek MIG100 tube amp with a Big Muff, Small Stone, DOD FX96 Echo FX. It sounds great, but it is a little thin on tone, but the amp and the Big Muff make up for that. I usually play through the neck pickup, but I am now trying to get a more cutting sound, so I am working with the bridge and trying to beef up the sound to a usable level. It's a great guitar for the amount I got it for...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This guitar, as most low quality guitars, needed some work. It had a great neck on it (suprisingly nice for the price) and after I got it proffesionally intoned, it sounded great! The color really is what caught my eye. I think that it actually is a mistake. It looks like their wasn't enough red added to the paint, and it came out as a oragnish red that I like alot!

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have used this guitar live for a while now. It has held up great and I have had no problems with it. The finish looks great, still shines. I replaced the strap buttons with strap-locks, and NOW they are a little loose, but otherwise everthings fine. But, the middle pickup is either broke or the switch is, because it doesn't work, but I don't use it anyway (I like 2 pickup guitars better anyway!) I use it with a backup, but the other guitar is in a different Sonic-Youthish tuning, so I don't think it really counts.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can get in touch with them to learn about my guitar color, where are they?

Overall Rating : 10
This gets a high grade because it IS a great value. I got it because it was so cheap, and I needed a backup, but now it is my main guitar. This is truly a lucky buy, becuase these guitar are so cheap and badly made. This one, though, really is awesome. Only thing I would change would be the pickups (but if had enough $ to do that, then I wouldn't be buying cheap-o guitars in the first place) It is funny7, though, because most of my stuff has been good finds and/or products that are inexpensive, but sound great (ex. my amp/peadls) Would NOT recommend buying one unless it is another one of these suprise guitars.
