Not sure of the year of manufacture. 1996-97.The Lotus L90E is a 21 Fret dreadnaught acoustic-electric It has what looks like a solid spruce top and Lauan back and sides. There is a peizo pickup mounted inside the guitar with tone and volume controls placed conviently on the side of the guitar. It has non locking Kluson style tuners and look and feel's great. It has a plastic nut and saddle. The neck has rosewood top with pearl inlay dots and is thin. I give it a 9 rating because of the plastic nut and sadle.

Sound : 10
I play mostly Acoustic and Folk. When I received this guitar in the mail (ebay purchaced) my mouth droped open in total surprise. The action is low and the neck is 1/32 narrower than a Martin. Similar to my Washburn WR150TI. When I first playd it, the sound was dead. I emediatly changed the strings. Much better but the harmonics where hard to get. After changing those cheap plastic nut and saddle to bone ones (use Martin sadle and bone with only minor modification)well, we have a new guitar. I get harmonics from top to bottom on the neck and they seem to last forever. The sound is to die for. AAA+++ .I tune it in E and there is very little buzzing. The neck has a funny downward curve on the 14th fret where it meet's the body. This doe's not affect playing in any way.The sound is crisp and clear and all the notes come out at the same volume. Super.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar had a very low string set-up. The previous owner had the height of the strings lowered but it felt to low for me. More like a lead electric guitar than an acoustic. The pickup is just right and the sound comes out just like it should. I would not change it. I like the tone and volume controls on the top front side of the guitar. They are quiet and works just great. The finish is super shiny. Looks like it came out of a car shine shop. You can see all the small waves and imperfections on the flat top because of that. But that doe's not bother me. The only flaw I noticed on the hole guitar is an excess of varnish that build up where the neck meets the body just under the control knobs. I thought it was dirt or glue in the bigining but noticed it whas buildup after trying to polish it. If you do get this guitar, I strongly recommend to change the nut and saddle to bone. It is well worth the effort. If you cant do it yourself, than have a profesional do it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar seems to be build to last a lifetime. The finish is thick and shinny and it seems to stay in tune forever. I allmost never have to retune it. There are only one strap button. You will have to tie your strap to the neck. I thought of instaling a strap button ( metal just like the other one) on the bottom of the neck but that would interfere with the pick-up controls.I would not be scared to use it live.

I hear that the importer has droped the line. They never replied to my emails.

Overall Rating : 10
Just turned 50 and decided to take up guitar after 30 years of not practicing. I allso own a Washburn WR150TI that is just fantastic for the price. I have a Univox U65RN amplifier that sounds great with both guitars but I'm planing to redo as the carbon resistors are noisy after a while (Hiss) and to star ground the amp to get rid of a little hum induced by poor wiring disign. All in all, alot of guitar for nthe money. My friend has a 25+ Acoustic Norman B20, and I would not change this one for his. I'm a happy camper.
