I have the EG-60BLK, same guitar, but black, not SB sunburst. 21 fret, dual HB, 3 way switch, tone, volume, and a reverb switch. Neck is smooth, a tad chunky, but very strong and keeps its shape.. I find it very easy to play. Maple neck, not sure about body. smooth frets. Brass fully adjustable bridge, string through body. I've heard these were made in Japan. wherever it was, they did a good job. stays in tune.

Sound : 9
wide range of tone available, from hard clean to smooth and warm, almost a warble, plus you have the reverb switch. two humbucker original pickups, not sure what brand. It stands up to professional performance use. I have a small Crate 40 watt amp, but I use a Digitech effects procesor sometimes. My amp has two channels, a chorus, reverb, distortion, etc.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
bought used. I tightened tuners, did adjustments to bridge to set it up.

Reliability/Durability : 9
definitely a performers guitar, takes a beating and keeps going. you can really pump up the volume, good sustain. Hardware could be a tad better, but it does the job fine.

Customer Support : 9
not made anymore. doesn't need much maintenance, tuning, strings, check wiring from time to time.

Overall Rating : 9
this is a keeper. I've played a bunch of guitars, mostly accoustic and electric acoustic. I had a nice Ibanez electric once, very durable. this one is like that.

Madeira was Guild's Japanese line, at least in the late 70s and early 80s. There is no indication on mine what year it was made, but if I had to guess -- purely from appearance -- I'd say around 81 or 2. It has an incredibly resonant laminated body, probably ash, with master volume and tone controls, three-way switch, dual humbuckers and a coil splitter. Bolt on maple neck. Body style is exagerated Strat. Stays in tune very well, quite fast action, slightly chunky neck. I bought it used, and believe me this baby has been played and played and played -- nothing stops it. One of those amazing finds.

This is where the Madeira stands out. The range of tone is nothing short of phenomenal, thanks largely to the coil splitter. With both pickups engaged -- I think they are the original dimarzios -- this guitar can just pound the hell out of any garage. But fiddle with the tone control and the coil splitter and it is possible to get an ethereal bell-like sound, almost a chime. Its astonishing. I use it for everything.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
As noted above, I bought this used and it was well played when I got it and its even more well played now and not a thing has stopped it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
See above. Absolutely no issues. Why Madeiras are not around anymore is anybody's guess but I would absolutely get another one if I came across one.
