The previous reviewer has stated most of the specs.
Mine is an 2005 Ebony Burst custom colour. The 'Burst' actually is very understated and looks nicer from a distance rather than up close. All the harware is of a very high standard including the tonepros bridge and tailpiece.
For the price this thing FAR outweighs a matching Gibson model.
In Australia Gibsons are so overpriced it's not funny, why would you bother with one of them when you can have this?
I also like the fact it's nowhere near as heavy as a Les Paul too!
It gets an 8 because it's pretty much a simple guitar in features but what it does, it does well.

Hmm... It sounds great don't get me wrong but I'm not too sure about the Seymour Duncans.
The neck pickup is beautiful but the bridge is a bit too bright for my tastes. I'm using it with a whole bunch of gear, Non master Vol Marshalls, GT-6 preamp, Boss Pedals etc. Probably sounds best through the classic rock setup with Analogue pedals run into the Marshall.
I have a set of Holdsworth Carvin pickups I may put in and try out. They're a very balanced set in terms of tone and output between bridge and neck.
It's not noisy at all and the switches and knobs feel very secure and tight.

Straight out of the box (literally) this this played great!
All I did was get rid of the NanoWeb strings and replace them with Ernie Ball 11's.
I also checked the intonation with my Peterson Virtual strobe and it was pretty much on the mark.
Really, this is how guitars in this price range should be tho. Have you ever grabbed a Gibson off the shelf? They pretty much suck!

This thing will last a lifetime, no doubt about that. Everything is solid and A+.

Yes well... Maton really need to lift their game here.
I have emailed them about a case 4 times and they still have not responded.
A guitar in this price range SHOULD have an included hardcase or at the very least a durable gig bag. Maton don't seem to think so and can't even be bothered to respond to my emails. Yes they have a good product but customers like me are paying their bills and funding their operations. LOOK AFTER YOUR CUSTOMERS MATON - RETURN EMAILS!

A great guitar but let down by Matons poor customer service and the lack of a hardcase. If you don't mind forking out extra for that the you'll be VERY happy.
For the record I was tossing up between this and an American Deluxe Tele. The Tele is actually about $400 cheaper and comes with a quality SKB Hardcase and a whole buch of goodies like a lead, strap, straplocks etc. Maton could learn a thing or 2 from Fender.

I play mainly Blues; Jazz and Heavy rock.I am currently using a Marshall DSL2000 50 watt head and 1960A quad box.My Effects are Morley Bad Horsie Wah Wah; Fulltone dual drive and Fulltone Deja 2 pedal. The guitar is very quiet except on the heavier distortion settings.
Originally this guitar came with "Seymour Duncan Humbuckers JB in the bridge and 59 for the neck".I didnt like the sound of these as to my ears they sounded harsh.I rang Maton to see if I could have their own deluxe Humbuckers put in my guitar as a replacement. They were more than helpful.I had some custom wiring done. With the coil split in operation I have via the three way pick-up switch (Bridge single coil-on this setting I can get tele bridge sounds; The two outer coils of both humbuckers -very funky on clean settings and Neck single coil-great for blues and rhythm.
I absolutely love this guitar. It sounds great.

This guitar will more than withstand live playing. The hardware is of the highest quality. The finish has been expertly applied.
The strap buttons are fantastic.Well done Maton. Many other brands should take note. The strap buttons are large and this adds to the sercurity.I could depend on this guitar 100%.I could gig without a back-up

Maton were fantatic to deal with. When I wanted the pick-ups changed they telephoned me personlly to discuss what I wanted.I thought that was great in this day and age were once you buy a product most companies could'nt give a "rats arse", about you after they have your money.I think Maton derserves a "12" for customer support

I have been playing for about 15 years mainly for a hobby.I also own a Maton EGB808 Artist Acoustic (again a fabuous guitar)Sound like I like Matons (sure do)
If this guitar were stolen I'd track the barstard down and make him buy me three more for retrobution. There is nothing I dont like about this guitar.I have had Gibson;Fenders;Yamahas;and G&l and this guitar beats them all hands down.It is made in AUSTRALIA and to me that is worth a hell of a lot.
