Les Paul copy made in Korea, 22 frets, 2 volume, 2 tone, 3-way selector, and two shiny silver humbuckers make up the basic parts of this Nelsonic. Cherry Sunburst finish is professionally applied, nut seems a little plastic-y, but it's a nut, tuners are smooth and sturdy enough to withstand hard playing, banging into walls, while keeping the instrument in tune. Neck is bolted on, frets are smooth and solid.

Sound : 9
I was instantly amazed at the sound from this guitar. I was expecting it to sound like a toy for the price I paid, but was astonished at the sounds I was instantly playing. My other guitars are a Jay Turser strat copy, and a Fender esquire custom GT, I love both of those but was looking for a Les Paul sound and feel for my music, and this guitar delivered. When I first plugged it in it didn't work, but then I tried a different cord and it worked fine. I think it's a little picky with cords but it'll work. I am using a Fender Champion 30 for now, and also tried it with my Digitech GNX3 processor/recorder, and wow. Wow wow wow. I had planned on just testing it out for a few minutes but ended up calling out sick on Friday and playing for an entire 3-day weekend. I kept turning it up and trying to push it to the limit and it roared back with satisfying rich tones. For under $200, it's hard to believe these pickups are for real. But they are! I'm sure there's better ones out there, but for the price this is an excellent value. I wish the tone knobs would give it a little more of a range of sounds, but they work, they respond, and it can go from bright to muffled. The 3-way selector switches between the 2 pickups, and can sit in the middle and use both, while you can adjust the two volumes separately and create your own mix. Not the most gigantic range of sounds from this, but it's comparable to guitars which are much more expensive.

I didn't need to make any adjustments to the action, it was set up professionally and very easy and smooth to play. It tuned right up easier than any new guitar I've bought and it stayed in tune nicely. The pickups, guards, and back plates are all covered in a film that I peeled off, and all surfaces were clean, flawless, and bright and shiny. And now for the wood parts - absolutely beautiful. It looks as good as it possibly could. I hung it on a wall mount and examined it closely, and the only thing I could say was, "$159??!?!?! $159??!?!!" For $159 I didn't expect it to be as magical as it is. It glows and has an aura of beauty around it. There is a small ding in the back by the electronics cover panel, which I know didn't happen in shipping, but it isn't chipped and is otherwise a perfect block of wood. Very hard to see where they cut corners to keep the cost down. The logo on the headstock is ugly in my opinion, and the word Nelsonic is offcenter by a hair, but the Starliner Series signature takes away some of it's plainness. I know there is a whole thing about Les Paul headstocks and the pre-lawsuit copies and the "open book" headstock style, but so what man. You want to show one of those off, go ahead and spend the extra $2,831 for a real one. While you're saving up for that I'll be shouting at the devil with my Nelsonic.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Strings, tuning machines, bridge, knobs, all feel very reliable. Electronics - besides it not making sound with one of my cables, I've had no other problems. The finish will never come off unless you want it to. The strap buttons are solid, I may switch them to a little bit of a wider button so i can jump around a bit, but the ones it comes with are decent. I can depend on it to rock. I don't gig, yet, and think everyone needs a backup, but everyone has a favorite and this will be my favorite for a while.

Since I was skeptical at first about this company which I had never heard of, I sent them a couple of questions via email to get an idea of what type of company they are, and they got back to me in the same day with answers to alleviate my concerns that this could be an el crapo guitar. But they seemed very proud of their products, very responsive, very confident that I would be impressed with the quality. Their web site touts their quality assurance process in a way that actually makes sense and is not just marketing talk. They also closed every correspondence with "Keep Jamming," so they seemed like they had a unique and genuine approach to making me a happy customer and a happy guitarist, so I took a chance with them and was very pleased. Of course, if I didn't like the guitar or it was damaged and I tried to return it, I'm sure that would have been opening up a whole can of worms and be a pain, but that's any company. The only place that doesn't hassle me about a return is Best Buy. Nelsonic gives you a 5-day return policy, but you are still responsible for shipping, and you'd still be out $50 (25 each way).

I have been playing for almost 4 years now and have a strat copy and a nice Fender. I wanted a cool looking Gibson-style guitar, with some cool new sound to add to my repetoire for my original recordings, but I didn't want to spend so much. Why are the real ones so expensive? Because they're made in America. Because they're a Nashville tradition. Because they have the open book top and the name Gibson. It's a piece of wood. If I spent $2000 or $3000 on a guitar, I'd be afraid to take it out of its case. I wanted something I could play hard, knock over, throw in the closet, hang on the wall, something that would take that journey with me from beginner guitarist to advanced intermediate guitarist and would sound great and look fantastic and make people think "wow, that is a beauty", and this Nelsonic has been doing all of that for me. I read a lot of reviews on all the companies that make cheap les paul copies, and there isn't much info so you kind of have to take a chance with one of them. From what I hear the Epiphone Les Pauls aren't even that great, and aren't even that cheap. I would definitely buy this again in a heartbeat, I may even get a second one in Gold just because they look so nice on the wall. The best thing about it is it's playability, something about this guitar has just made me want to play play play with my headphones on jumping around the bedroom, in a way I've never experienced with a guitar before. It takes time to get to know each new guitar, to make it your buddy, but this thing came ready to go. Compared to my other guitars it has jumped right up to the top of the list as my favorite for now. Here's an example of a lesson learned: One of my other guitars is a Fender Esquire, it's list price was $899, it was on sale for $629, and I was able to talk the guy down to $540. That guitar was discontinued by Fender this year, and the price is now at $299 for a new one. So I feel like a big dummy everytime I look at it for losing out on that one, even though it is a beautiful rocking guitar. Now that I have the Nelsonic I feel I have earned back the money I lost. I wish they had one in black, because that would be sweet too, but they don't right now. As another reviewer said - fantastic value in this guitar. Go for it and as they say, Keep Jamming!

I am guessing that this guitar was made in 2001 or 2002, in Korea. It has 22 excellent frets, solid top, standard Les Paul setup with two volume and two tone controls, 3 way selector switch and two Gibson style humbuckers. It has passive electronics, body is more than likely Agathis or Alder and has a nice weight to it, comparable to a Les Paul's actual weight. Absolutely beautiful tobacco sunburts finish, flawless. Standard Les Paul body style, beautiful copy, classic Les Paul bridge, very good locking tuners, standard Les Paul style neck, except it is a bolt on instead of a set neck, which to me, is better because if your neck gets warped on a setneck guitar, ya might as well chunk that mo fo in the garbage can, came with a cord, two allen wrenches and 2 picks. Absolutely amazed at the quality of this guitar, very solid, ranks right up there with the real thing for a fraction of the price. Fantastic value.

Over the years, I have had real Les Pauls and my tastes changed to strictly acoustic or electric acoustic. I started to miss playing a Les Paul but I really didn't have the bucks to shell out for a real one. Just couldn't really see myself spending that much money for the little I play on an electric. Suits my music style just fine, as I play whatever I am in the mood for, from country, rockabilly, blues, jazz, classic rock and I get an occasional urge to play heavy metal, which is why I bought this guitar. I am using this guitar through a Marshall G30RCD and the only affects I use is a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal and will occasionally use a Danelectro Corned Beef Hash reverb pedal. Very rich full sound drawing from both pickups, and good for metal in that setting, nice twang on the bridge pickup, which is good for country or metal riffs. Mellow sound on the neck pickup perfect for classic rock, blues or jazz. Very versatile guitar, incredible sustain for a bolt on neck, it actually seems to be as versatile as my Les Paul standard I used to own, but keep in mind it has been several years since I have let that guitar go. Right now, I like everything about this guitar and it is exactly what I was looking for.

Seteup from the factory was beautiful, pickups and intonation were perfect. Just took it out of the box, tuned it up and started playing. Nice low action, but not low enough that you would get any fretbuzz....perfect!! Absolutely no flaws that I can see anywhere. Nelsonic makes some very strong claims on their website and this guitar fulfills every one of their claims. I am extremely impressed.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I see no reason why this guitar will not withstand live playing and I say that as someone who has been performing live for over 30 years. Hardware is solid, finish is great, strap buttons are solid, very solid guitar and reeks of quality. Very dependable I think. I would never gig with any guitar without a backup. This guitar puts the Epiphone Les Pauls to shame and costs about half as much as an Epiphone LP 100, which I started to buy. I played this one with my friend who has an LP 100. I am glad I got this one. He is pissed. Seems every bit as solid as my Les Paul standard was, only difference being that this has a bolt on neck instead of a set neck.

I ordered this guitar off the Nelsonic website on Tuesday and the guitar was at my door on Thursday morning. Incredible.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 35 years and performing for 30 years, I do mostly acoustic electric live these days......I may change that now with this guitar. I have a Taylor acoustic electric, Takamine Acoustic Electric and a Martin DX-1 Acoustic. Not a thing I wish I had asked. Love this guitar. If it were stolen or lost, I would track the perpetrator down and kick his ass. I compared this guitar with Epiphone and Essex Les Pauls, having friends that owned both, Epiphone is a piece of shit comparatively speaking, the Essex nice, but this one is still nicer, picked this one. Great guitar....excellent value, it will not disappoint you.......and it is only $160.00.
