2005 package with poster and all the other junk. The semi hard case is pretty decent actually. Details no different from everyone elses. 2 humbuckers, trem, red burst paint...you know. Got all the basics Id expect for cheapo guitar, which is why I will rate it pretty high. I do hate the machine heads however, that screw down type . A pain to change, so I added Some Schaller M6a tuners, a lot better now. (I had to get 2 of the 3 by 3 packs, since this guitar is a 4 by 2 headstock). The tremelo is very nice for a cheap guitar, your picking hand can rest on the bridge no problem.

Sound : 5
Here's where it hurts. Stock pickups dark, can't give you any good crunch through any amp. My Mesa F-50 doesn't color any guitars sound, and the lame humbuckers show through especially here. BUT here's the good part...go out and buy a Dimarzio tone zone for the bridge and a Satriani for the neck...now you've awoken this guitar's true potential. Sounds awsome. All this for 120 or under through ebay. A 5 for bad stock pickups, but ability to sound good with modifications.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Finish was really pretty, I like the pearl burst red, and it wasn't flawed at all fresh out of the box. The headstock is painted as well. The chrome hardware was all shiny, action was on lower side which is what I like. Like every great, good, and cheap guitar that has been shipped it had to be setup however...just bring it to your repairman and have him install pickups the same day if you're like me and bought upgraded pickups. I love the contour of the body when I rest it on my leg also..perfect fit. This is my best feeling guitar (better then my Epiphone Wylde Les Paul).

Reliability/Durability : 8
Well I don't gig so I haven't subjected this to torture...Im sure it would fair OK. As far as the bridge goes it is still perfect and I play pretty hard and do divebombs adn the whole deal. strap buttons and everything else solid. I think the finish is good enough to last also...not bad at all for guitar under 400.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with OLP.

Overall Rating : 10
Why a 10...because of it's VALUE and POTENTIAL. All I did was install a Dimarzio Tone Zone in bridge, Dimarzio PAF Joe in neck, and Schaller M6A machine heads. I love the guitar now, it is a perfect feel for playing all over the neck, low action and thin neck...complete opposite of my Les Paul (which Im selling). It is very tight and crunchy sounding, great through modern high gain amps...and in the neck position it hums perfectly and warmly when you speed through a scale. I am a hobbyist that plays lots of Dream Theater, Satriani, Metallica, BLS, and Slayer. I like most skilled music, and this guitar allows you to pull it all off. If you're just a hobbyist like me and looking for the ultimate value of a "cheapo" with excellent playability on the neck with a tremelo...this guitar is a top choice. With all my mods it cost around $540.00! Trust me, you will be shocked at this little sleeper.

24 frets bolted on to a solid basswood body. Two humbuckers. Beautiful shape for the body and great red color. The guitar looks amazing! I loved the way the top of the body was carved at an angle, very different, but very condusive to speed players. A lot of guitarists get used to resting their hands on a set bridge and this allows you to have that feeling with a temelo system guitar. Crome hardware, one tone, one volume, and three way toggle switch selector. All in all, the features of this guitar look great and that's what innitially attracted me to it.

Sound : 5
I'm a speed player. I sound mainly like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai but I'm starting to really get into the progressive metal stuff so naturally I've migrated toward Dream Theater and Petrucci as someone to really look up to in this area. It should have fitted my style, but it didn't and I was extremely dissapointed. I'll elaborate more on that bellow. In terms of sound, I was not impress, but I was not unimpressed. It sounded like you would expect from a foriegn humbucker, similar to Duncan Design pick ups. Not the best, but not bad. I'm playing through a Digitech GNX3 into a Crate 2x12 combo amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
This is where I'm going to blast it...this guitar was by far the worst guitar I've ever brought home. It looks good and feels good around your shoulder, but that's about it. The first thing I did was tune it with the factory strings on and test for fret buzz. I found buzzing on the 11th and 9th frets on the D, G, and B strings. I restrung it and started working on the action. I NEED low action for my style of music. Long story short, I was never able to completely set things up so that the buzz was eliminated and in order to get it close, the strings had to be a mile off the fretboard. If that wasn't enough, the intonation was WAY WAY WAY off! I've been setting up my own gutiars for almost 10 years now, so I know how to get them the way I want them. But it just wasn't going to happen with this one. However, I wasn't ready to give up on it yet so I had it done by the tech at the Guitar Center. He called me and told me that it basically wasn't going to happen especialloy since it just wouldn't stay in tune and there wasn't anything he could do about the intonation. It was just a poorly made guitar and if I wanted to swap it for another guitar (Music Man Sub 1), I could. I'm very dissapointed in OLP for putting Petrucci's name on such a bad guitar. Another annoying this is the placement of the toggle switch. I kept hitting it while playing and switching pick-up selections in the middle of playing because it's placed right in the middle in between the humbuckers about an inch away from the strings. That's right where one's hand might be strumming...come on guys, I mean seriously. The neck was also a very slow feeling neck, all tuning/intonation/action/buzzing problems asside. Next time, have a guitar designed by guys who actually know how to play one.

Reliability/Durability : 2
I wouldn't play out with this guitar simply because it wouldn't ever stay in tune and the intonation was terrible. The body looks and feels really solid. It's thick and has a great finish and I think the body would last. If you could get a neck that felt as good and hardware set up that didn't feel like poo, this could have been a good guitar.

Customer Support : 5
I didn't deal with OLP at all. The guys at the Guitar Center were great about it. They didn't have good things to say about this guitar and were more than happy to swap me out for a used Music Man Sub 1 that was in great shape and I'm happy with.

Overall Rating : 1
I've been playing for nearly ten years now. I've owned a ton of guitars and this one is by far the worst I've ever taken home. I've never bought a guitar and had to bring it to a tech within the first 24 hours of owning completely stumped on how to even get the thing to work. I've also never had a guitar that the tech himself told me that it's beyond work straight from the factory! Maybe it was just the guitar because I had read good reviews but basically what it boils down to is if you are a serious player, this guitar will not cut it. I hated it and will never buy an OLP guitar again.

I've got a friend who has the Ernie Ball Music Man version of this guitar. The day I got it, I took it by his shop (he's a recording engineer, a salesman in a local music shop, and he does any set-up work on my guitars that I don't do myself) to do a side-by-side comparison to the Music Man. Of course, it's not going to be as good, but we were both surprised at how close it was. Feel-wise, it has a comfortable body, just like the Music Man. The neck is also nice, feeling very similar, if not pretty much the same as the Music Man version. My friend actually commented that it has a bit of a "rounder" feel, fitting to the hand a little nicer than his Music Man when he played in the higher register. It had that "new neck" feel to it, like most brand new guitars, so I ended up conditioning the fret board that first night.

Sound : 7
To test the sound, we first plugged it in to the Peavey Joe Satriani head. The stock pickups aren't bad, but for my style of playing (which is hard rock/progressive rock) I'll be switching the pickups to Dimarzios. Through my Johnson Marquis 60 and my Behringer Modulizer Pro the neck pickup is a little noisy, but nothing that a little tweeking on my effects settings didn't take care of. I only rated it a seven because I will be changing the pickups, but the stock pickups may suit a lot of players. Just play with the guitar a while to see how you like them.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action was off and the tremelo bridge needed adjustment right out of the box, but set-up on that guitar is a breeze, considering that the truss rod is exposed down on the body at the base of the neck insted of at the head stock, so the only tools that were needed was the truss rod tool and allen wrench that come in the case. The guitar was set up with a nice low action in a matter of a few minutes. As for the finish, around the pickups there are a couple of very small "chips," but you only notice them with the guitar right up to your face. The electronics and tremelo cavities in the back are messy on the inside. I'll be cleaning those up with I switch out the pickups.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I am not actively gigging right now, but I don't think I would ever have a problem being able to rely on this guitar. I've noticed that it will slip out of tune with heavy tremelo use, but I think that can be attributed to the strings being wound poorly on the tuners straight from the factory. I've noticed other complaints about that and think that they hold true. I just got the guitar a couple of days ago and haven't restrung it yet.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not delt with the company.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for about 13 years. I own a customized 1998 Hamer Sunburst Archtop (customized with Eric Johnson Dimarzios and a TonePros locking tune-o-matic bridge). The only thing I would change about this guitar is the pick-ups, but I'm a huge Dimarzio fan and would probably replace just about any guitar's pickups with Dimarzios eventually. I feel that this guitar is a great buy, especially for the price I paided. I'm only rating it an eight because I will be spending more money to replace the pickups. It would make an excellent guitar for just about any level of musician. When compaired with the Music Man John Petrucci, it held its own well once it was set up properly. If you are interested in this guitar, go ahead and give it a try. I think it would be well worth your time!

Made in korea. Cheapo Version of John Petruccis actual signature model music man.

Sound : 7
From my ears it sounds great with stock pickups. Perhaps a little dark and not to 'gainy' but its good enough for me. Nice sustain, especially for a cheapo.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
it comes set up horribly from the factory. the tuners were poorly strung, which explains why it didnt stay intune for a while! the string is not supposed to go around the headstock more than one turn otherwise the whole locking thing wont work. ask the music shop dude to show u how to string it properly! anyway, after a while the action and fret buzz are both nice and low :D. but the paint job has a few tiny dings here and there but i couldnt give a f*ck so its fine in my books. nice neck 2, but i was surprised with how small the frets are.

Reliability/Durability : 7
only had it 2 weeks but its doing ok. snaps alot of strings when u screw around with the tuners too much so dont do that!

shit hot. if ur a fan of petruccis u wont be too disapointed with this puppy. i bought it coz i wanted something with a trem that stayed intune and didnt use a floyd, and i got wat i wanted. for the first few weeks it wouldnt stay intune at all, but after oiling up the joints of the trem and the nut its heaps better and im doin dive bombs and lots of stuff now.

You've seen it in all the other reviews. Came with a great "gig case" and cheap cable and strap, but thats to be expected.

Sound : 7
I liked the sound of the pups out of the box (a bit dark), but I quickly replaced them with Steve's special and Air Norton pickups. I was really going for the JP sound. The stock pups were a little noisy, but not really noticeable when playing with a band. Stock pups had a pretty good clean, better than the hotter pups in my Axis. With the new pups, the sound is great

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I had to special order this guitar from MF. It took forever! The intonation was out and it needed a setup to be able to stay in tune. I had the nut adjusted as well. The guitar felt a little light, but after installing shchaller locking tuners, it felt more substantial, like a higher end guitar. I love the finish and the right arm contour. It's really comfortable to play. The neck is really fast and easy to move around on.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I just used this guitar for a gig New Year's Eve. I still need to work on the trem, but overall, it sounded great and felt really comfortable all night. It's going to make a perfect backup for my Ernie Ball Axis. I have learned that no matter how new your strings are, always bring a spare axe to a gig! There's nothing worse than your band and an audience waiting for you to change a string or troubleshoot your guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No Idea. I do know that thier websight has not changed in nearly a year! The have new stuff out that isn't even posted yet. How hard could it be?!

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for over 20 years, (12 professionally). My main guitar is a Music Man Axis through a Mesa Dual Rec. I use an old Zoom "Choir" pedal for my delay and chorus. Other than that, I use a Cry-Baby Wah and a EB volume pedal...pretty Simple. If it were stolen or lost I would be very upset because after replacing the tuners and Pickups, this is a cool guitar, but I would probably save up and buy the Music Man model. I do recommend this guitar as project or back up. You just can't beat the price and coolness factor.

Basswood guitar in a sort of wine red. Dual humbuckers. 3-way switch with one tone and one volume. Wierd non-locking tremolo. Locking no-brand tuners. Comes with a case.
The pickups are screamin' hot, awesome for anything remotely Petrucci. My big beef is that the toggle is in the way of my picking hand. Petrucci barely moves his right hand, but I strum a bit more so that becomes a big problem for me. It literally makes the guitar difficult to play. Guitar loses major points for annoying switch position.

Sound : 9
IF you want to sound metally/like Petrucci, this will do it. This guitar can scream! Just dont expect it to do too much else. You can get that metal-clean out of it . . . but it's not a blues/jazz/rock axe.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Set up fine. No finishing problems.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems fairly well built, but not stupendously so. Only time can tell.

Overall Rating : 7
Price included whole pack. Basically if you want to play and sound like Petrucci, this is an awesome axe. Killer value. For me (and most old-school rockers, etc) it isn't right though. Lack of flexibility, and the annoying switch position. A 9 overall if those things dont bug you, a 5 if it does. Average them for a 7.

Guitar is made in China but it is exceptional for its money.1 vol 1 tone
3 way switch.Body is basswood, color Red Pearlburst. It came with a gig case tools strap(very cheap.mine got screwed the day I got it)Its got a very good Heavy Mass tremolo.

Sound : 9
The Pickups are little cheap but for stock are ok,but I changed them to a Dimarzio X2N and FreD.THe stock ones had very much noise. But I wax-potted them and are in a squire body now.the sound is fairly good when its stock but excellent when the pickups are changed.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Everything was good BUT only the 9th fret wasnt leveled with the others and gave some nasty buzz sound. But except that everything was OK

Reliability/Durability : 7
The Hardware is good and it seems to be in good condition and will last a long time. The strap buttons are somewhat little but I changed them with a Dunlop staplocks and are fine now. This guitar will surely whitstand a long gig whitout a backup. The only problem that can happen is to pop a string during a gig,but every giging musician must have a new pack of strings somewhere to change if a string pops.

Em... www.olp.com :)
In short terms: Dual humbucker setup, 1Volume + 1tone controls, 3-way switch, MM/OLP "hevy-mass" tremalo (realy nice, btw), 24frets, nice big comfy bodey.

Absolutly best thing about this guitar is THE NECK! Modeld perfectly, not-so thin, gets wider at the bottom. Action is so lo that figiers simply fly on this thing. No fansy decorations, douh. When you get some swet on it it gets realy nice and smooth :).

Tremalo is a big surprise, too. Fells a litle bit ... strange after using an Floyd. It takes day or two to get use to it. I'll have to put real locking tuners on it to prevent it from going out of tune(not that it goes that often, but after like 2-3h of playing it will).

Finish is nice. Flashing red that fades in darker colour at edges of the body.It looks much better in person than on pictures. Check the forum, I'll post some pictures and sound clips as soon as I get new pickups.

Body shape is strat-like, but just the way I imagend my perfect guitar shape! Sexy curves and nice right hand cut. Feels great either standing or siting and playing.

One thing that really pisses me of is the position of pickup switch! it's really close to the strings and it get's in way. It foreces you yo change way you move your right hand. Really bad thing!

I got nice OLP semy-hard case with Erny-Ball strings (9), spare spring for tremalo, guitar cable and guitar strap that's really pour quality (i fu**ed it up in 4 days...).

Sound : 8
Aaaah, the sound. Again really nice surprise. Pickups don't suck at all! Thay are litle bassy for my taste, but sound nice and warm. Clean sound on neck pickup is very-very good! It has that "nothing else matters" kind of sound and it's more than pleasing. When overdrivied, this pups handel it good. Little bassy as I mentiode before, but ok.
I guess that this guitar will sound pefect with DiMarzzio FRED/PAFpro stach sig, that I'll put. Other choise would be Steve's special for that middle-less sound :).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Factory setup was allmoust pefect, the guitar was in tune when I got it :) Strings/tremalo ratio was ok. I've raised it up a litle bit. pickups high was, as far as I am conserd, perfect.
Overall - good job OLP.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar will withstand anything. Have no worries. Be shure to put real locking tuners and anshure that it will stay in tune after you rpae that tremalo :)

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hope I won't need to contac them.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for 6 years (I am 20 years old; music academy student, violoncello :) ), started with Metallica than switched to hard-rock/rock and now I mostly play Satriani.

I wish I knew if this guitar requires f-spaced humbuckers before I ordered my DiMarzzio set :(.

If it was stolen or lost, I would buy it again defenetly. It's beautifful, cheap, sounds good... what more do you want? (er... Floral JEM for instance :))) )

I absolutly love the neck and body shape. I'd like some biger headstock than this 4+2 (something like upside-down ESP or Ibanez), and I defenetly hate the position of pickup switch! Totaly un-practical. Plus it would be really cool if it had coil spliter, but I'll install that myself.

geez, just go to www.OLPGuitars.com website to get the specs. It's manufactured in China along with a lot of other lower priced guitars, but the CNC machines did a really nice job in putting it together. It's only got 4 bolts holding the neck on instead of the 5 the EBMM Petrucci has, but I dont feel like it's any the worse for that. Locking tuners are ok - a bit of a pain and really old school but I'm probably going to replace them with Planet Waves locking tuners anyways so no skin off of my nose. The pickups were purported to be wired a la EBMM Petrucci's but look to be standard wiring. Pickups are fine and sound ok for straight out of box, but I dont keep stock pickups in anything anymore so they're among the first items to be replaced too. Basswood body is light and comfy to play, the arm contour very nice and comfy as well - I could play this all day and all night if need be. Neck is a really excellent hard rock maple with excellent almost flat rosewood fretboard and jumbo frets. Excellent to play and naturally geared for quick playing. Mine came with a gig case - rectangular piece of rigid foam cut inside to fit the guitar and covered with the same material gig bags are made of. Inside is padded and offers great protection - a really nice feature I didnt expect for the price.

Sound : 6
Original pickups for these things generally suck, but this one isnt too too bad. I plugged it into my Ampeg VL1002 and Peavey 4x12 cab and gritted my teeth expecting mid mud and shit tone to come out. To my surprise it was pretty decent - better than most Epi LPs off the rack. I'm still going to replace with DiMarzio Steve's Special and Tone Zone pickups, but at least I can bang away on it until they arrive. Wiring doesnt match the EBMM pickup wiring but since I'm replacing the pups they'll be wired that way in the end. Give it a 6 right now but will be 10 no doubt with the $120 in DiMarzios I'm dropping in.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
overall the action was very decent. The instrument needs to be set up and a tiny bit of a fret grind at both 9th fret and 15th but that's only for me to get the thing down to a ridiculously low action. I didnt see any flaws in the body or paint, the hardware was in great shape and smooth, and the pickups were set to the correct height to maximize sound while not causing magnetic field to dampen sustain. An excellent instrument for the money and probably will bump a few of my other guitars out of their spot in the list.

Reliability/Durability : 9
dont know since I dont know anything about the bridge or tuners, but they look and feel really solid so I'd be comfortable taking it as the #1 or #2 guitar for a gig. I dont think I'd ever totally rely on any one guitar for a gig but if I had to then yea, I'd be comfortable playing this one all night. Especially after the new pickups that wouldnt be any problem for me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
dont know, hope never to need them.

Overall Rating : 10
been playing 28 years now, own a custom one piece neck/body strat style with custom wiring and seymour duncan/lace sensor pickups. Also have a Jay Turser JT 134 with SD pickups, Dillion DR590 with Gibson P100s, and a Fender MIM strat I routed and dropped in Zakk Wylde 81.85 EMGs into. Lost/stolen? I'd beat the...cut their... blah blah. I'd buy it again no problem - but I'm definitely thinking of getting the EBMM version just to have the hi end paint and original pickups etc...

This guitar was bought as a project guitar. I have been wanting a Petrucci for a long time, but didn't want to spend the money on the real one. So I bought this one for $350 from Music123 with all the intention of making it better. I replaced the stock pickups, which are pretty bad, with a Dimarzio Steve's Special, and an Air Norton. The locking tuners are a pain in the ass on this thing as well, they are real hard to work. So I replaced them with Schaller mini locking tuners. I also ordered the pearloid schaller tuner knobs to replace the chrome ones, so it will look more like the real model. So for $534 I have pretty close to the real Musicman model, minus the birdseye maple neck. I rated it 10 for sounding great with the new pickups. I would give it a 5 with the stock pickups.

I pretty much play all sorts of metal, from 80's, to alternative, to progressive. I paly it through a Laney VH100R head and a 4x12 cabinet. I really like the neck on it, it is made to the exact specs of the real Petrucci model, it is really fast.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action wasn't to bad, but needed adjustment, a turn or two of the truss rod fixed that.

Pickups were adjusted fine, but I replaced them with a Steve's Special, and and Air Norton. Man what a difference, it sounds like the real model now.

All the routing is great, no problems there.

There were now flaws in workmanship at all that I can see.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I would gig with it all night long, even stock. But the work I did on it when I replaced the pickups was better quality work than the factory work. But the factory work would have held up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I havent had to deal with them, and I hope I don't have to

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 24 years now, a Musicman Luke, an Ibanez Destroyer, and a Wolfgang Special.

If stolen I would buy it again, and probably do all the same work I did on this one. I love the neck it is awesome, and I love the fact that I got as close as you can come to the real deal for about $300 to $1000 dollars cheaper than the real deal.
