Features : 10
I'm guessing made in China per other reviews. www.olpguitars.com has all the specs of this. Main feature of this guitar, though, is the addition of the double-locking Floyd Rose (Licensed) tremolo. I give a 10 not for the variety of features, but more for the features that suit me. Maple fretboard, double humbucking pickups, locking tremolo, great finish on the body, nothing more to ask for!

Sound : 10
No noise on this guitar. Pickups . . . wow. For a $200 guitar, these pickups are wonderfull. I will say this about the pickups: Very open and has that "hot" feeling, however the sound produced is very thin and brittle. The open-ness makes up for it. They do lack clarity and "balls", so replacing wouldn't be a bad idea. Giving a 10 for the bang for the buck sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Factory setup was marginal at best. Can't expect much for a $200 guitar though. Edges of the frets need to be smoothed out a bit (feels like some flashing is left). Bridge routing was great, although I would have preferred a top mount Floyd Rose instead of a recessed "floating" style. Pickups were at a decent height.

Reliability/Durability : 7
In my opinion, you would need to do some upgrades before you take this thing gigging. First off I would upgrade to an OFR (Original Floyd Rose). Harder metal and better knife edges to rest on the posts. Then I would upgrade the bridge humbucker to at least a DiMarzio Tone Zone. Everything else seems really solid on this guitar. By far the best bang for the buck I've ever purchased.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't say since I haven't dealt with them. Read other reviews, they (OLP's service) seem to be very helpfull.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 8 years now. I love the value that was put into this guitar. It was not made to have great features; rather features to get the basic jist of the real deal. And done well! Obviously you can't even compare this to the real MM Axis, its like apples to oranges. However, the $280 (retail) you'd pay is worth it for the features you get, and from a reputable company such as OLP.

new 2005
made in china( i would have prefered these be made in korea where the quality is better)
all the features are the same as on the original MM1 but add a licensed floyd trem(more on this in the review)
please go to www.olpguitars.com
for all specs

Sound : 10
OK i am going to be very unbiased here since i bought this strickly for a review and a must see for myself thing and not as my main guitar and say that for a stock $279 guitar it sounds unbelievably good and can only get better with a dimarzio tone zone/air norton upgrade if you are after the real deals tone($1600 EBMM axis or $2000 EVH)
but can be left stock for a convincing enough dupe tone to satisfy

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I do not care for most factory set ups regardless of maker and this was no exception.
needed the usual action/truss rod/better strings redo's that i have always done to all guitars EXCEPT, my EBMM evh sig guitar that came from the factory flawless!
this was a rare instance though.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
first off this licensed floyd is made from soft metal like most other cheap knock offs BUT is a huge improvent over the original MM1's vintage trem that will not stay in tune at all unless you use fender bullets and have locking tuners!
so at least now you can do the EVH,satch, vai, dime stuff and come back in tune even though it is not the best floyd out there it does stay in tune.
I would recomend replacing it with a OFR(original floyd rose if you want a more reliable giggin guitar
the rest of this guitar is fine and can do live or studio no problem

Customer Support : 10
got back to me with answers very fast

Overall Rating : 10
all in all this is a great guitar for the cost.
it is NOT a 100% axis or EVH copy though,it is more along those lines kind of thing.
the neck is not the same as my EVH or axis, the bodies overall shape is not exact, the fingerboard radius is not the same nor is the maple(my EVH has a birdseye maple neck and board)
I asked OLP about these things and it was to keep the cost down on it
I would have rather they made this one and a more expensive version preferably made in korea where the quality control is now pretty damn good!
I would pay the extra $200-$300 for the better quality and more accurate features.
so they should think about a MM2 that takes this idea and brings it into reality for those that love the real deal EBMM axis but will never have the $1600 for one
but even still this is more than good enough to satisfy the players that want to own a axis like guitar and get that type of tone

i have been playing / repairing guitars for 25 years and own a '92 EVH ernie ball/music man sig guitar, a '99 axis,a '02 axis
several san dimas charvels that are worth a S**T LOAD and NOT FOR SALE
a wolfgang standard and a LP re-issue

not many features, but than again how many can you honestly have? floyd rose and HH.... all i need

Sound : 10
i play in a hard rock/metal, and the guitar sings. i honestly think that it could handle any style without any pickup swap, sounds great clean or distorted. packs a punch too, and its the first low priced guitar that i have ever felt the wood resonating

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
wondeful, thats all i can say. it was out of tune when i got it, which is a given, but the fretboard felt great. after a setup, wow, amazing, regardless of price. stays in tune for weeks at a time, even when i go nuts with the floyd

Reliability/Durability : 10
seems very solid and durable. i put it in my gig bag and drive for 2 hours and out of the bag its in perfect tune still. nothing seems strange or weak

Customer Support : 10
i have only talked to OLP to ask them to offer more color selections on this model. they are very courteous

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing for 6 years, and this guitar never disappoints me. i love everything about it. if it were stolen id beat the guy, leave him in a ditch, and hide the guitar in my closet so insurance would get me another :D

This guitar, I understand is an import from China (just like everything else it seems, and I dont mean just guitars). It has a Basswood body, the top is a Photo-finish which is very well made. The neck is an unfinished one piece maple, (not joint at the third fret like most imports) and has a very good and positive feel.It comes with a three way switch and vol. control. The wirings are all well put together and all kept in a well shielded cavity. Everything's quite impressive so far, more so coming from an instrument of this price range. Add to this a Floyd Rose style bridge with a speed loader concept (no ballend cutting required which means faster string changes) and you,ve got one guitar thats capable of handling a wide array of playing styles!

Sound : 10
I would have to say that the stock pick-ups are probably the best sounding ones I've heard compared to other entry to mid-priced guitars pick-ups on the market. They're wired in full (no tone control)and respond well to both clean and high gain amp settings while still maintaining very good string definition. Having said this, I still had to change my bridge pick-up due to a personal preference I have for Duncan Distortions. Now I would like to emphasize that this something that I wanted to do not something that had to be done. I was very impressed with the neck pick-up so that one I had to keep.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar's out of the box set-up was so-so, as with most new guitars it had to be fine-tuned to suit ones playing needs. It might be a good idea to shell out a few more dollars to have a good tech. do this and factor in the cost of the set-up with the total cost of the guitar. Otherwise, for those among you that have experience setting up guitars and what not, this is something that could be done quite easily. The overall finish of the guitar is very good to damn near flawless aside from a few frets that needed dressing. Kinda makes you wonder about guitars that are being sold for hundreds of dollars more and are riddle with imperfections.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This instrument had a solid feel, everything from the sealed tuners, neck-body joint all through the floating trem. The only thing that I was uncomfortable with was the unfinished neck, now don't get me wrong the neck feels great as it is but bare wood not having anything to protect it from moisture and the elements didn't sit too well with me so I had to strike a compromise between playability and stability and had to refinish my neck with a few passes of lacquer and sanding it to get the right feel I wanted. Again this is a personal preference and doesn't necessarily have to be done.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Fortunately I haven't had any need for customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
Through my years of playing I've gathered gear more than I honestly need. I wont make mention of them though since I dont think its relevant to my review. Now lets face it, buying a low priced or put it bluntly "cheap" guitar is not the trend today. When the most sought after guitars are the brand names like top of the line PRS's, Gibson's or what not. Rightfully so, for these are very fine instruments. However, some of these higher priced guitars are just that, outrageously priced with nothing more to offer. The OLP MM1FR on the other hand is more that just decent guitar for an entry level price, its design is based on a true and tested Ernie Ball model and has the sound and playability to rival if not best most mid priced guitars in the market. All this at a price that won't have you selling your left kidney or your first born child on ebay. I mean what more could you ask for?

Gloss natural with real flamed top. Two pickups, one volume knob, a licensed floyd rose. A simple guitar just the way I like it.

Sound : 10
Im into Van Halen and 80's metal and this thing does the job for me. These pickups dont sound like there coming from a 200 dollar guitar, but something alot more expensive.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory set up was fine to my suprise. No problems what so ever. The action could have been a little lower but I can fix that myself. The unfinished neck feels awsome too but it gets dirty quick so wash your hands before jamming out.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I bring mine out to jam all time never had a problem with, might just throw some new strap locks on though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
These Olp guitars are a bang for the buck. There awsome guitars for the price, and now they have real a flamed top and a floyd. The only thing I dont like about this guitar is that the floyd is floating and the neck and fretboard gets a little dirty because theres no finish on it. Other than that this things a steal.

Crap!!!!! Cheap

Corners of neck at base were over rounded. There were pits on the back of the neck and obvious patch up area of the neck...example, glue stain

A fret or two will have to be sanded down to prevent buzzing

Floyd Rose is an early version where you have to use an allen key to undo the strings.

Neck is very playable

Reliability/Durability : 8

Complained to OLP representative in the US about the poorly and crappy neck on my guitar and they shipped me a new one. The new arrived and it's CRAP also! Some frets were not glue down and contain flaws. WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT AN INSULT!

Overall Rating : 5
Cheap junk but playeable. If craftmanship were better I would give it a 10. But there were too many little flaws, therefore, I am disappointed.

Van Halen would not even look at this guitar.

Do yourself a favor and save up for the real thing.

I can't add any more than the other reviewers have already stated, so see their stats below (2 humbuckers, locking trem, etc...). I'll just agree with them here and say this guitar has got really nice features. The trem is really great, the neck is a dream and the 'imitation' quilt-top looks absolutely beautiful! I thought it was a real quilt when i first saw it! They've done a nice job on producing these!

Sound : 10
This sounds fantastic! The pickups are very tasty indeed and its perfect for rock sounds and sounds very good clean too. The bridge pickup sounds a lot like that distinctive Van Halen tone to my ears, and that makes it just about perfect in my book, and the neck pickup sounds full and fat. Sounds very professional indeed - Not a bad achievement for a guitar that cost me less than #300!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Well i bought this from a guy i know who set it up before i got it so it plays absolutely brilliantly. I've not played for a number of years but this guitar immediately felt like an old friend and its extremely comfortable to play. The fit and finsh are great and this guitar looks like it shoyuld cost much more than it did! I've heard somewhere that people have thought the imitation maple tops on the old style MM1 guitars was poor, but this one i've got looks very realistic and is just beautiful.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
What to say here... i don't play live & my son (who the guitar is SUPPOSED to be for...!!) is not playing live yet so i don't know if it will stand the test of time. There's absolutely no reason i can see why it wouldn't stand up to being knocked about a bit and she appears to be extrmely well made to me.

Overall Rating : 10
I haven't played for about 12 years but picked this up for my son as he's started getting interested in music and been bugging me for an electric guitar for ages. A friend of mine highly recommended this MM1fr to me and i must say i'm astounded by the quality of this thing. I wanted to get my son something 'decent' to learn on (its hard enough learning to play as it is, so why make it harder by having a crappy guitar to learn on?!) and this seems to be absolutely amazing value to me. Its miles better than the stuff i used to play years ago that would've cost me twice as much. Its inspired me to start playing myself again (and also to write this review!) and in fact i seem to be playing it more than my son is!
Thsi is just a really great guitar and i wish there had been things like this available when i started playing! I mght not have given up in the first place if i'd had this guitar 11 or 12 years ago! A great buy and a teriffic guitar!

2 humbuckers, locking Floyd Rose licensed trem, 1 volume control, 1 three way selector, terriffic maple neck and fingerboard. Imitation quilt top (its a photo! But it actually looks very very convincing! You need to get real close to see that its not a genuine quilt! And even then it still looks very very nice indeed). Made in Korea or China? Not sure which, but either way its a kick-ass piece of gear! Its got everything you need and i just can't belive what a great buy these are! 10 outta 10!

Sound : 10
To say its a sub-$400 guitar it totally sounds the business! I'm in a band playing various covers and some original material. Its mainly rock based but we do play all sorts of stuff and this axe is just great for everything i do. The neck pickup is really full sounding and the bridge pup has just the right amount of cut and bite. These pickups are the best by miles on any guitar costing this much and better than some on guitars costing much much more. Also sounds good clean, i can use this guitar for some really warm sounding jazz licks too! Does everything i want! Slammin'!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
finish is flawless. Ive bought guitars costing 5 times as much as this that havent been as well finished. i know its not a REAL quilt but it looks great and the binding work is great too. Mine is the trans gold quilt top and its really beautiful. everything is nice and neat and tidy. the action is very low and the neck is fast and buttery. like i say this holds up very very well against much more expensive guitars.

Reliability/Durability : 10
had it only a few weeks as they are brand new this year but ive used it every day and also live several times and its as solid as a rock. stays in tune really well even when i use the trem a hell of a lot and the whole thing feels very well made. wouldnt hesitate to use this live all the time (at this price i can afford to have a couple of others ready as back ups too!). Its already becomming my main axe now.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had the need

Overall Rating : 10
this is the best guitar out there for the money in my opinion. i'm a big fan of Eddie Van Halen and wanted a music man EVH or Axis (im not a big fan of the wolfgang tho) but a friend of mine showed me this and i was truly blown away by it. ive been playing for over 10 years and had quite a range of guitars in that time, some of them being much more expensive than this 1 was, but when my friend told me how mch this was i was amazed. it looks really classy and very expensive. It plays like a total dream and has 1 of the nicest necks ive ever used. The pickups sound really great and the trem is solid. i'm not bothered about shelling out over a grand for an axis now when this is so great for such a great price. best guitar ive ever owned and im definately going to get hold of at least 1 more of these! i cant fault it at all. if it was stolen id be very very pissed and i would buy another 1 (or 2!) in the blink of an eye!

Features : 10
Brand new 2005 model equipped with Floyd Rose licensed locking trem system, made in china (i think), 21 frets, 'photo finish' amber quilt top (its a photo of a quilt top, but looks awesome!), 2 humbuckers, locking 'speedloader' style floyd rose licensed trem which is most excellent (really quick to change strings 'cos they just feed through back of trem with no messing about cutting the string ends off, etc, etc), 'satin' finished neck - very smooth & comfortable - the neck on this thing is absolutely fantastic & as good as on any other guitar i've ever played. This guitar is worth the money just for the neck alone!! This guitar has everything you need for an unbelievably low pricetag! I don't know how they can sell them so cheap & i think when Music Man realise just how good they are they're gonna raise the price on these!

Sound : 10
I play mainly rock & blues but also some jazz & some funky-type numbers, & this has all bases covered - the stock pickups are superb, probably the best i've heard on a guitar in this pricerange. Its very versatile - no nonense here in terms of controls - just 1 vol & 1 3-way selector, but its really all u need, & its just a joy to play.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
i had to lower the action & break the trem in to loosen it up (pretty standard to have to set up a guitar to your own personal liking & wear it in a little) but after that the thing is PERFECT! Finish is just fine & the photo finish quilt top looks gorgeous - my friends didn't realise it was a photo 'til i told them! I can't emphasise enought how awesome this is for the money - fast neck , really low action & the trem is great & stays in tune no matter how much i use it. This looks & plays like it should cost a fortune (like the guitars its modelled on indeed do!), but it just doesn't!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Not had it long, but it seems totally solid - have already gigged with it several times & its been great! Absolutely no problems at all. & you know what, she was such a great price that even if i DID bust the thing i could afford to replace it - now you tell me you could be so flippant with a music man axis or an EVH!!?? I've got an Axis super sport & bought this as a gig back up, just on a whim really, but rather than being scared i'm gonna damage it (like i certainly am some nights with the Axis 'cos the thing cost so damn much) i can just relax & get right into the music.

Customer Support : No Opinion
no need as of yet, but have emailed regarding details of some of their products & always recieved real quick & informative replys.

Overall Rating : 10
been playing over 30 years (far too long so my wife says!) & the reason i wrote this review is because this is the guitar that has impressed me MOST in all that time. By that i mean that for the money its absolutely the best thing i've ever played. Why couldn't these have been around years & years ago?!? Unbeatable fast comfortable neck, solid & really fast to use trem (so quick for string changes!), great pickups, & looks like it should cost 5 times more. To be totally honest i wasn't expecting much when i bought this (as i was a big fan of Axis & EVH guitars) & just got it as a back up to use on stage in emergemcies, etc, but i've been so impressed that i think i might send my music man Axis back & demand a refund!!:
'Hey Mr. Music Man, how dare you charge so much when i can get these MM1FRs so cheap!?'.
I may at some point change the pickups on the MM1FR but quite honestly the thing is just fantastic & an absolute bargain. Hell, dammit, i might sell my Axis & buy a couple more of these instead, & that way i can afford to smash 1 up every so often like a proper old-fart rock n roller! This is just an unbeatable instrument at a silly price! Get one... yesterday!
