Relay surprisingly nice neck, and very light, i dont usually like light guitars though the sound far makes up for it

I play alot of old stuff..... big fan of prog and classic rock... so Zeppelin floyd and clapton are the ideals

For a cheap as hell guitar this thing sounds fantastic :D, i got mine for 1/10th of the price of my fender strat and the sound is defiantly not 10x worse :D

being single coils, the single coil positions (1 and 3) are rather noisy, and the hum bucker in the bridge is surprisingly weedy and noisy too.... could do with replacing


As far as the electronics go... as you'd expect from a cheap strat style... the tone control is very tetchy.... nothing from 1-9.999999995 then from there to 10 is an on/off affair... though im sure that can be corrected(gets soldering iron)


Would have been nice to have the noise canceling circuitry from the real music man but still.... what do you expect.... its cheap as hell

I play through a laney stack and a marshall valvestate thing.... through the valvestate it sounds.... good.... though im not a big fan of the marshall tone so there we go

When i got hold of it.... the action was all over the shop, the intonation was miles off and the neck was so bowed you could use it for archery.... however after 20 mins setting it up and putting a nice thick set of strings on... it was perfect


The frets are very well dressed, the saddles have gone rusy very quickly but still.... the body is nice and light (maby a bit too light) and the neck is flawless

The paintwork is.... thick ish.... ive managed to wear chip it a bit and its got some mild belt rash but nothing to be worried about...

I assume the action problems was because i bought it used (though it was practically new.... the plastics were still on the pickguard and im positive it still had the factory strings on it :P

I have gigged this before.... though i always have 5 or 6 backups because i have particularly acidic sweat and sweat alot through my hands.... witch both clams up fretboards and breaks strings, that and i like bizarre tunings :D ...

Though saying that.... i wouldn't trust this without a backup...

Ive to replace the volume pot already since it just kept cutting out... and the jack plate is almost ready to be replaced...

The pickups have gathered a tiny bit of rust... though thats probily due to the acidic sweat again

had to fix the nut after the low E part of it broke.... guessing its not up to low fret bends with 11 gauge stings :P

Though those are all small 5 minute fixes.... its Surprisingly solid

Well.... overall its rather nice...

Over the years ive been playing ive managed to build up an annoyingly expensive collection of many guitars..... and even when stuck next to fender strats, tele's les pauls and firebirds.... it does still get played :D well done OLP

If someone nicked it.... i'd be very disappointed.... and replace it with the lovely red sparkle... or if i couldn't find one.... get the music man

It'd be nice if there were some string tree's becuase the way the heastock is set up is a little silly.... and that noise canceling circuit would be nice ;) still....

The body, the finish, the neck and the tuners is working really well. The guitar does not retune it self while playing, AT ALL! That is very important. The neck is very very thin, which also is very important.

This one got a floyd rose stall. And it is working great, even without locks at the top of the neck. I have almost neven experianced that this guitar have retuned itself while playing.

This one got two single-coils and one humbucker, which gives a rather weak sound (even is you only use the humbucker). The controls is having a really low quality. Everything is made out of the cheapest things, and can be compared to the cheapest J&D-strata models. Very bad.

The sound is very weak. But it might work for jazz, rock 'n roll and that music. Metal is not an option at all!

This guitar can not actually be adjusted very much...

The reliability is good - if you change pickups. Then the guitar might even be great. And you might have to change the controllers to. Otherwise its crap. When I got this home from the store it felt as the pickups and the controllers was going to break (they didnt, but thats the view that I get of the quality).

Very easy to play. A huge recommendation for beginners. But if you are going to play live, change the pickups and the controllers. And if you are going to play more professional - buy a musicman model istead.

Painted solid white Silhoutte copy. Stock bridge was a pretty low quality strat-style trem that I replaced with Wilkinson trem. S-S-H pickup configuration, five way switch, master volume, master tone knobs. 22 fret rosewood fretboard on a maple neck, basswood body. The guitar seems like it has a short scale but it's 25.5" just like a strat.

I play mostly blues and rock. I never use the middle pickup, although it sounds fairly nice for a stock pickup, the bridge humbucker was pretty bad, very twangy. I replaced it with a DiMarzio chopper, which sounds pretty nice in this guitar. The neck pickup is where the action is however, it sounds fucking briliant. With the tone knob rolled down to about 3 (from 1-10 on this guitar) it has a great smooth sound with lots of mids, with the tone knob all the way open it has a tone that can only be described as rock. I have my middle pickup dropped just below the pickguard on the bass side, and just above on the treble. Playing with the neck and middle pickups together on your clean channel creates an interesting sound, it's a little quieter than just the neck pickup, but doesn't lose too much volume, and has an almost jazzy tone. All in all I really like it once I removed that horrible bridge humbucker.

The action when I got it was pretty good, low without buzzing even with .011s. I can't remember what the pickup height was like as I moved them around alot. I felt that the nut was cut a little thin for heavier strings and had it replaced with a trem-nut to help tuning stability. The bridge was a low quality strat-style trem that I had replaced with a Wilkinson trem. I want to replace the tuning machines but I've been feeling kinda lazy right now, plus since the headstock layout is 4/2 I' probably have to buy specific replacements.

This guitar is rock solid. I have absolutely no complaints in terms of durability. I've had it for about a year I think and it's had some rough treatment, although I try to be careful with my guitars. It fell over one day because of my dogs playing near it and all that happened was it went out of tune and got a little ding on the edge of the fretboard. As for gigging without a backup I like to bring two guitars, one humbuckers and one with single coils, so the no backup thing is moot.

Never had to try and get it repaired, I do most of my own repairs anyway.

The hardware is a little shoddy, probably best to replace bridge/nut/tuners. The bridge humbucker needs immediate replacing if you plan on using it alot. If it were stolen I would probably try to find and gut the person who stole it. If that were not an option I would probably buy a new one. One really great feature of this is the neck joint, it has a rounded heel that cuts away so you get your hands right up into the high frets with out any discomfort.

Other than that, what does anyone care what materials??? If it sounds good, it sounds good... make it out of particleboard for all I care. If it sounds good I'll keep playing...

The singles sound pretty good. As far as hum and noise, near silence is acheived in the second toggle position... I assume this is putting middle single and 1 coil of humbucker in parallel (?). That's the only position I ever use really.... I hate hum and this position gives the best feed to my "tube into tube" setup.
I am using it with a Vox Tonelab SE into a Lexicon 284. Most anything sounds nice through those, but straight into the 284 sounds vy. good too.

Initially had a weird buzzing on the 5th and 6th string that I couldn't figure out... Later the bridge rattled loose enough for me to see what was going on... Tightening a loose screw solved the buzz.
Factory set up was fine.... have not touched it (I don't think....)

Everything is much nicer and more durable than most other starter kit guitars I've seen. Based on it's first couple of years of life and still looking like new....I think it will last 20+ years easily in my hands...

I gotta give it 10 for the value factor. It came with my guitarport... I wasn't in the market for a guitar at all... and now it's retty much my main player.... I like the action ... if I put different p/u's in this thing I'd probably sell some other guitars.

H-S-S configuration with a 5 way switch. Volume & Tone knobs. Basic. Classic.

Solid basswood body. Maple neck with rosewood board. Lots of value here for the price.

The tone of this guitar isn't overwhelming. It is decent though. The bridge humbucker is probably the weakest link in the chain. It could be hotter and warmer. Yet it's both hotter and warmer than the average bridge single coil pickup in a guitar like this. In overdrive the humbucker does better but isn't hot enough to kick off a lot of harmonics. It's pretty basic but doesn't have an irritating tone. It's a bit on the bright side but overdrive covers this up well.

The two single coils are pretty good. Very lifelike and clear with some character thrown in.

I'm prettty disappointed in the neck joint. It actuallly seems to be routed so the neck angles forward ever so slightly instead of back. Straight or back would be fine but forward??? The bridge adjustments compensate for this but the saddles are as low as they will go in an effort to fixt this problem.

It appears some moron (previous owner?) may have tried to fix this proplem by chisling out some of the neck pocket. The neck still sits flush as it should but there is a square inch of space aobut 3mm deep under the neck while it's in the pocket. I find it unbelievable what some people will do to "fix" their guitars.

The finish is pretty good but wood grain texture can be seen through the finish as though it wasn't quite sanded enough. The headstock is the same color as the body which is a nice touch on a guitar in this price range.

The gutar balances well on a strap and is very comfortable to play in all positions.

Basswood isn't the most durable of woods but with regular use I don't see how this guitar would fall apart any time soon.

I have no idea. I bought it used and have never had any idea how to contact OLP.

This is a hard price range for me to evaluate. Do I evaluate it on what it is and how it can be used? Or do I evaluate it based on how it compares to guitars that I know are great?

Bottom line this is an entry level guitar that will work well for anyone who is improving into the intermediate level. And after you start outgrowning it, you could change pickups and get a few more years of satisfaction out of it. The neck is actually pretty wonderful. The frets were done well. It's a very playable guitar and anyone would be able to work with the tone on some level.

When comparing it to my LP, Music Man EVH & Wolfgang Hardtail, it comes up short. I don't want to bash it but have to say, it just isn't a diamond disguised with a $150 price tag. Don't delude yourself into thinking it looks just like a Silhouette so it must be just as good. It isn't. As I stated earlier, it isn't rich in harmonics and character. But what it lacks there, it makes up for in playing comfort and basic but usable tones. And with better pickups, who knows?

I'm rating it high here for what it is and who it was made for. It is a really sharp looking guitar. And really, for the price new or used, it's pretty hard to beat.

Cheesy pickup....put in an "F"-spaced aftermarket and you're good to go. Put in new pots too, since those Chinese guys like to put in little more than a knob with a wire hanging off of it.

Looked over several at the Media Play garage sale. All had factory-finish flaws, but what do you want for $50? Tuners suck....next to get replaced after the electronics

Looks like they used the same template for teh body and neck as the Silouette, but lower grade materials and quality control at the factory. Should rock for a newbie if you upgrade a couple of things.

Been doing Dr. Frankenstein work on guitars for 25 years. Bought this since it was dirt cheap (75% off sticker)and had lumber simulating a Music Man (My favorite is an Axis, but I digress...), so I figured I'd wire in a few things and not worry if I fell asleep in a rainstorm with it. Definitely a cheap beginners guitar and would recommend Dad work an extra couple of hours of OT and buy that kid something he won't get kicked out of the band with.(That is, unless he has a stockpile of parts he can dumpster-dive for!)

I play mainly Prog/AOR/Hardrock stuff; it suits my style quite well, produces solid rock sounds in humbucking mode. PUs are surprisingly good and extremely versatile, the humbucker even offers adjustable polepieces, which is extremely rare in that price category. I tried it through my JMP1/Intellifex combination as well as through a Rocktron Chameleon; clean sounds from the single coils are quite rich and very defined, the humbucker is also sounding very transparently. This guitar is really good for different styles and can make a wide range of different sounds. High gain sounds lack a little 'bite' though, so I might replace the bridge humbucker with a Duncan Full Shred one day, but not now. For the moment I like it the way it is.
No buzz, beep, snarl etc. problems.....very good!

The set up on my guitar was almost 'from factory' as the guy who sold it brought it with him from states and sold it right away. All the little tags and badges where still on it. Action was quite low and very playable, the satin finish on the neck offers very good feel. The finish had minor flaws at the neck joint, nothing important, only to mention it. Apart from that the finish is really beautiful, very deep flake sparkle. Depending on the source of light, the colour looks more greenish or blueish. Everyone who likes the colour of John Petruccis Musicman custom doubleneck guitar will also fall in love with this one, very similar.
Everything was adjusted well, PUs had to come a little closer to the strings, one-minute job. Crafted quite well for the price.

It's a tank.....what can I say?! So far I've not gigged with it but I don't think it would ever let me down, it feels very solid, though it's not really that heavy. This guitar was supposed to be one of my backup guitars (I never gig without backup), but will be definitely used on the next live occasions because it's so solid and reliable.....and looks so beautiful ;o))

I don't need customer support for a guitar, I do the adjustments for myself....and have major things fixed from a guitar shop. That's why I dare to purchase on Ebay *lol*....
But have been in touch with the German OLP distributor, asking silly questions without owning one of their instruments at that time. Got an email response withing 24hrs, extremely friendly.....they even offered a telephone number so I could ask more stupid things. Brilliant, that's the way I like it....they even caught my sense of humor *loel*

I've been playing for almost 25 years, too much gear to mention. This is a brilliant guitar for small money. If you need a versatile allround type of instrument, this should be your choice.....if you can afford (or want) more, purchase a real Musicman. But there's definitely not many better guitars in this range, there's nothing you could possibly do wrong with buying this one. If mine were gone? I'd get a new one quickly.......off Ebay ;o)))))

My music spectrum s wide spread. I am a dance musician but from the heart i like SRV, Mark Knopfer, Gary Moore, ZZ-Top etc.
Currently i don't think it's necessary to exchange the stock pickups.
It's a typical Super Strat sound. The bridge humbucker is matching well to the single coils.
The only disantvantage is a slight drop of output on the high e string on both single coils and the humbucker seems to be hum sensitive compared to others. But some DiMarzios and SDs also do, especially when the coils are asymetric.
Thsi instrument is able to deliver all the vintage strat sounds and heavy stuff with the bridge humbucker.
I made a small modification to the electronic. I've changed the tone capacitor from 47nF to 10nF and switched a 330pF capacitor from In to Out from the volume pot. The result is impressive. The small capacitor avoids a treble loss a very low volume levels. It is sparkling bright at levels from 2-4 and get beefy the more i increase volume on the guitar. The 10nF at the tone pot changes the character of the instrument. It is not more dark an muffling when turned to left.. it causes a highmid boost with the single coils (more fat strat character) and a chimey midboost with the humbucker, nearly a Brian-May-like lead sound. A good valve amp... and that's it. Change from rhythm to lead sound by turning an the volume.
The hum cancellation of the humbucker could be better. If you are playing in front of a PC-Monitor you will hear it quite good.
This is the only point which does'nt let me give a 10 for sound.

The factory setup was better than ever expected. The blue sparkle finish is made very well. Good fretwork, no buzzing. The rosewood fingerboard could have been cleant better. Some fretboard oil and it's done.
The tremolo.. o.k. it's a vintage type. Heavy usage causes detuning, but that's not a fact for me. I've fitted all springs and dismounted the tremolo arms because i don't use it.

We'll see... I bought it 3 weeks ago.Everything seems to be rock solid. The neck is very strong. It's nearly impossible to bend it ( Gibson SG-Vibrato gg...). The hardware and the strap buttons are very solid. The only thing i didn't expect: It's not a lightweight.. it is comparable with old alder strat bodies.

I am playing for 25 years (mostly dance /top40 music). I've played Blade RH4E (a dream... but it was stolen), an old Fender-Japan Strat, a PRS-like Aria Pro 2 and now the MM4.
Currently I am working with a J-Station from Johnson-Amplication (a marvellous modelling amp, but the company is now swallowed by Digitech), feeding it into Peavey Valve Amp.

With the slight capacitor mod. it is fantastic to play directly into the amp and do eberything with the volume and tone control on the guitar.

I give a full 10 for the overall rating, because this guitar is more i ever expected in this price range.

I purchased my sparkle blue MM4 in August of 2004. I have been playing it for several weeks at Music Depot in Columbus Mississippi and finally the wife let me get it. Mine is a solid body electric with rosewood fingerboard it is set up with a s/s/h pickup configuration 5 way selector switch one tone and one volume. The hardware setup is simple it has a classic fender style tremolo sealed diecast tuners 4+2 head stock side mount output jack. It has a basswood body and the pickups are no name but are real nice the singles are clean and bright and the humbucker is very high gain. Overall its the best bang for the buck ive ever had.

The Pickups are a bit bright but they still have a lot of low end. I like that because often i cant get the edge to my sound. I end up having to pull bright knobs on amps. I dont have any noise problems its cleaner than any other guitars ive had including us strats. With the setup it has it can dial any sound you want from twang to the heaviest metal. It works perfect for me because i play country blues classic rock hard rock heavy metal and even old surf. Hint: I play thru a roland cube 30 its the best amp since my old twin Stack and pedal board.

All I can say about this is there were no flaws. finish is beautiful need to see in person deep metalflake blue. The neck is smooth and fast. The action was a little high for my taste but it was the lowest non buzzin action in the below $700 range. The guys @ Music Depot set it to my taste ULTRA-LOW. I called their guitar tech on the phone told him what i wanted and when i got there it was perfect!!

I think it will withstand live playing but only time will tell and i will review it again. the quality is far above some other name brands ive owned. I use to be a diehard Gibson fan not any more

Ive been playing for 13 years. I used to be in a few heavy metal hard rock bands but i retired from that a while back and made a commitment to play only music with a positive message (I went back to my church roots)I wish it had a hard tail stop I quit dive bombing a long time ago
