This is a joint venture tween OLP and Orange County Choppers, so it has a different look to your average axe, and a cool vibe all it's own. I dig it cos it's different.
2004 OLP Tank , made in (guess...) China SHOCKED! 24 medium frets, 1 x Vol 1 x Tone, 3 way pup selector, 2 No Name Humbuckers, Raised and carved tank area ( looks a kinda motorbikey), Custom flame fingerboard inlay ( frets 1-5)
Direct-mounted pickups for improved tone ( whatever that means)
Contoured neckjoint for improved neck access (uh huh)
Recessed input jack for stage use ( Ooh for STAGE USE - actually it is pretty cool as it keeps the jack out of the way and behind everything... I never understood why my strat made a big feature of the lead input on the front surface of the guitar.. HERE IT IS!! THIS IS WHERE IT PLUGS IN!!!)
Basswood body
Bolt-on North American maple neck ( yeah in 2 pieces ya cheapskates )
Rosewood fingerboard
25-1/2" scale
Chrome hardware
Vintage tremolo bridge ( except it don't tremelo, it is fixed I think it's a tunomatic style)
Finish is a wicked silver sparkle with black tribal pattern
Tuners sucked in that cheap chinese way so I put some planet waves auto cutters on - very nice and rock solid now.
Sound

Sounds much better than I may have indicated above, the buckers although generic have plenty of swagger and hold distorion well, sound well deep and throaty, yet cut throuh nicely. It Intonated fine with a little tweakage and the action is sweet - you don't need to fight this axe to get good sounds. I play poppy beat based stuff with heavy tones so it suits me fine. Noise isn't too bad unless the Bad monkey is dimed, so whaddya expect. I wouldn't call this guitar bright, just a good rock sound, and it can do the metal thing if needed.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action was fine, buzzed a little with the 9's it had, but no buzz when I put 10s on.Pickups were a little high for me, so you take a little plate off the back and adjust them in reverse... not sure how you would go about replacing the pups as the tags are all bent down and away for rear adjustment...but I am happy with them so far. I think pup upgrades are overrated, I have swapped out more pups than I care to mention, and I am loathe to admit, it only makes 10-20 % difference to the overall tone in my HO. Sparkle finish is a little thin on some edges, there are a few small dents and the tuning pegs left a little to be desired, but hey I paid $154 au for a $550 guitar so I am stoked with the quality and feel.

This is a great guitar for live use as it looks different, sounds cool and ***SPARKLES*** I have a perfectly good mexi strat too, but I tend to prefer this live, as it looks cool, weighs less, sounds just fine, and I also believe that when you are playing to a bar full of half pissed patrons in front of a roaring band, things like maple or rosewood, alkaline or lead acid batteries are kinda redundant.. in the studio it's a different kettle, but live just GO 4 IT!! PS always have a backup.. repeat after me...

Been playing since I was 14, I am 34 now... shit that's 20 years, I should be a lot better than I am, but I can play ok. Listen to me Kids, your 20's are a blur and your 30's slide on real fast... so stay gold johnny boy.... or whatever. Other Gear I own... ah who gives a toss.. Vox Valvetronix 30 ( blew the speaker last week - WTF??) Mexi strat, Yammy pacifica, Fenix Tele, Fenix Strat, Epi Gothic SG Pierced ( hey I likes the weird guitars) Ibanez elec/acoustic, Boss Flanger, Bad Monkey Behringer wah.
If it were stolen I would hunt the guy down.. is there any more stupid or boring thing EVERY single guitar reviewer on this site says when answering that question..... If stolen I would get another one, but only at the discount price of $154. To sum up I loves it, it is stupid , rockin, flexible, unpretentious, different to every other joe wannabee's strat/tele (is it just me , every time i type strat, i accidentally type start instead, it's like a mental fart.. EVERY DAMN TIME) fun and easy to play - WHAT MORE COULD I WANT?
