Beautiful guitar. I paid $300 (nz) for it, a peavy amp and a 5m lead. I couldnt have hoped for a better first guitar. I am pretty sure i have the same guitar (maybe the exact same) as previously posted by Brian. Has a volume and tone knob (which was silver, i painted black.) Has a 5 point lever. Floyd Rose bridge. 3 Pickups, one doublecoil at the bridge. Beautiful Woodgrain on both neck and body, a nice comfortable neck to hold with 24 frets. The wiring needs a little work, some are blue-tacked into place. But otherwise pergfect.

Sound : 9
Beautiful sounds. I play mostly metal (Opeth). The distortion sounds great, nice and clear, but grunty. The clean sounds great for soloing, or softer music. By changing the Low Mid and High on my amp i can almost make it sound like an acoustic.
I think with proper wiring it would sound even better. I am also thinking of replaceing the 2 single pickups.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I dont think i recieved it factory due to its re wiring, but it still sounds great. Has a few dings in the finish which is a real bummer, its a beautiful guitar. A ding right at the tip of the guitar, and few on the bak and on the front. Its body is red sun burst, with a brown fretboard, with mother of pearl indicators. And a black head. Very styly curves, just a nice guitar to look at.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Built like a brick sh*t house. I have never broken a string myself. It is quite an old guitar, and still works wonderfully even without being owned by the most "caring" people. The finish is very thick, it would take a few knocks to damage it seriously.
I truely can rely on this guitar, it has never crapped out. The lead has, but never the guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought second hand, i thought it was a very reasonable price.

Overall Rating : 10
Its my first guitar, and i dont plan on ever selling it. Once i buy a new one it is going on the wall, its just so nice looking and really has brought so many invaluable memories.
Better than anything else i have played.

If you are used to playing a Fender Telecaster then you know the feel this axe has. It's not a cheap copy - its a brilliant copy - with the same feel as the real thing. This is easily a professional axe, even though its not one of the big names, it is more than a semi professional unit - It is a "sweet to play and listen to" guitar that responds to every nuance of your playing. It has 3 pick-ups - the back one is a double coil humbucker with grouse grunt - the front ones are smooth and mellow - 5 position switch - nice balance of sounds. It has a thin and very smooth neck that feels smooth and quality. All the standard gear - and good solid quality - what more could you want?

Sound : 9
Great for hard rock / metal - even nice country and blues sounds too. It has stylish curves but its more than look good and feel good - it sounds Xcellent! The pick-up layout is such that it gives a good cross section of sounds from gutsy growl to mellow tones. I've played a Fender Telecaster and this is so close that I couldn't justify the huge jump in price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory set-up on this was poor but a few adjustments made it very nice. The previous owner hardly used it and never touched the adjustments. Every new guitar needs to be set up to suit the player and this one was no difference. But there is heaps of range so you can make it to suit you! It has grouse action - really smooth - solid and easy to play no matter what your style. It has a kool finish with carved curves - a nice looking and stylish axe for all occasions.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Never had a problem - what more can I say? It is built really well and solid.

Customer Support : 10
cant comment - how do I score that? These are a popular axe so I guess it easy to get them fixed if they ever broke - 10 cos I love it!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for years and this is the best all purpose guitar I have ever owned. It sounds Xcellent through my Fender Twin 100 Amp - very much like a Telecaster in sound and feel. It plays smooth and ROCKS!!! It is such good value for the sound it makes. It just plays like a really expensive axxe but without the price tag.

Since I bought this guitar its become probably my fav out of all 3 (an ibanez Rg220 & a Monterey LP copy fitted with an EMG-81)
Im not actually sure of a model name, all it says on the neck plate is "Custom Craft"
Basically its a "Super Strat" sharper curves, deeper cutaways and all.
Now this guitar has a carved top, one of the better carved top guitars i have played!, its sunburst fading to a mahagoney colour on the back, IM not sure of what wood type, but there is abit of grain pattern.
Its also got this great, what I think is called "Wood Binding" just a strip around the edge that hasnt got the mahagoney colour...its a nice touch!
24 fret neck with reverse or upside down sharkfin inlays, and white binding.
One humbucker in the bridge and a slanted single coil for the neck.
All black hardware, sealed tuners, single locking trem, 3 way selector switch, one volume and one tone knob.
Bolt on neck.

Sound : 9
I play mostly metal, hard rock, and basically any tunes that take my interest.
This guitar does it all, with the humbucker in the bridge and the slanted in the neck position, its pretty easy to get a good distortion and a nice clean.
The 24 fret neck is a dream, real easy to play, its basically a "shredder" type neck, but thicker than an Ibanez neck
What surprised me is the tuning stability of the single locking trem...its stay in tune really well and sometimes I try to imitate some Dimebag Darrel moves (note I said "I try to") and it stays in tune, its a real good quality floyd rose licensed trem, much much better than on my Ibanez Rg 220.
The pickups are quite good, although the single coil is pretty noisy, though I'll replace it one day.
But the bucker is really quiet and gives a great distorted sound.
And when im in the mood, the clean sound I can get is really great, even though im using a JCM 800 (some ppl say its clean sucks...WHA?)
Basically i give it a nine cause even though it gives a great warm sound the single coil is pretty noisy

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Well I bought this 2nd hand...but the action was top notch...perfect nice and low, it was just too easy to play!
Now here is the biggest disappointment for me and its really got nothing to do with the guitar
The last or whichever owner had it, wasnt all that careful I guess, so its wound up with quite a few dents and big...there not scratches but they are like scrapes on the edge.
But thankfully there is really only one mark noticiable on the top, and it aint real easy to see unless you look up close
Mostly the marks are on the back bottom edge (when you hold like when you play) for me its a big disappointment cause I dont think they can be fixed with doing the whole thing again *SIGH*
Oh and the other thing is, on the headstock, since its quite pointy (love it) its come up against a wall or something a broke a nice sized chunk off the end...binding and all, once again *SIGHHHH*
Other than them user related thing I love the finish, the carved top, the sunburst, the "wood binding" , and the 4 or so differently grained planks used
Its got a really nice look
The black hardware is real heavy duty, maybe alittle , but its only minimal wear
From the look off the frets, its either fairly old (80's maybe) or just seen lots of play cause the fret show a bit of wear, but thats nothing really.

Would have got a 10 for sure if not from some dicks careless use of it...curse that person! hah

Reliability/Durability : 10
As far as I know this guitar is rugged as, ive only had it for not quite a year i think, but nothing has gone wrong, not even one string breakage
And i think with proper treatment, it'll last god knows how long, id really love to find out more about it!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I dont know anything about the company...Ive seen a fair few Onyx guitars around here in australia, maybe they are australian made?
If anyone knows anything about them...send me an email...
Very much appreciated!

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing now for 3 or 4 years...if not longer, I dont really keep track and I know I'll be keeping this guitar for a long long time
And it only cost me 195 bucks...i was so stoked to get it
If you ever find anything similar, although i havent yet, id recommend you pick it up cause it really is a great guitar... I just wish it hadnt been bashed around so much! ah well maybe it can be fixed *fingers crossed*
Im something of a perfectionist, id love it to be in tops condition for no other reason than me wanting it to be.
I pretty love everything about it, i dont think i would change anything except maybe the single coil, get me one of those new quiet ones eh.

And if anyone knows anything about its model name or the Onyx company, please send me an email!

Cheers
