Features : 8
Made in June 1994. Really good quality English made guitar. 24 fret. Mahogany stain finish. Passive Kent Armstrong humbuckers with coil tap capability. Mahogany body. Stop tailpiece. Dodgy size allen key slots for ajusting the intonation. Previous owner lost the specified allen key but would be better if it took a common allen key size. Sperzel tuners but not locking ones. Ebony fingerboard. Came with a moulded dark green case with patrick eggle moulded on side.

Sound : 10
Gives a very nice full sound on both pickups. Great for clean solos. Coil tap makes it sound a lot like a strat or even a tele. Sounds great through and well made amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Bought it when it was aobut 11 years old. The pickups were a bit out and the neck had bent a substantial amount. Had the fret wire stoned a bit. The action was still good apart from it had two dead frets before i had it seviced. After 11 years of use aswell two of the machine heads are slightly loose without the strings on but it doesnt effect the guitar. One of the controls was loose but fixed with a rizla. Appart from that the rest was top quality.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Its all very well made and durable and after 11 years of use nothing suprising had happened appart from the neck bending slightly but it is common among the berlin series. Fitted strap locks to it when i got it so didnt really use the origional ones. The finish always looks good but giving it a wax now and again really makes it look great.

I have never had any dealings with the company as there have been no major problems with it. The workmanship of the guitar was warranted for three years from the date of manufacture. All hardware and electronics were warranted unconditionally for one year to. As i bought this guitar about 8 years after the warranty ran out and i have not had to contact the company i will not rate this one.

Overall Rating : 9
This is my first major guitar that i have owned as i have only been playing 2 years but it is now used every day and is a part of me. It would have been good if when i bought this guitar it came with the right size allen key but that was just because i bought it second hand. I love the size of the body and the colour and the action on it is really nice. Overall it is a quality guitar. Around the standard of fenders and gibsons without the major price. I recommend it.

Berlin Stage made in England by Patrick Eggle in 1994. Everything is top quality and well made. Solid mahogany body and neck. Set neck. 24 frets. Ebony fretboard. Perloid position markers. Twin Kent Armstrong passive humbuckers. One volume and one tone, push/pull for coil tap. 3 wat selector switch. Combined tail stop and bridge unit. Spretzel locking tuners. Body style is based loosly on a PRS twincut. Lovely very dark green Patrick Eggle moulded hardcase with name moulded on side.

Sound : 10
A very versatile instrument. Sounds good through any decent amp. Through a Twin, comparing it to my Gibson SG which is also solid mahogany and an ebony fingerboard, with humbuckers, it is slightly shriller and less rich with humbuckers engaged. With the coil tap it sounds more like a Strat. This may be due to the Eggle having less body mass. Comparing the Berlin with my mate's Gibson Les Paul Studio, the Berlin is a much nicer and sweeter guitar all round. A very nice instrument indeed.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Everything about this guitar was excellent. No complaints at all.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Regularly (and carefully)gigged and showing no signs of wear at all, not even any fret wear. The silky varnish finish is extremely hardwearing and does not chip. Unlike my Gibson SG, which has several chips.

Customer Support : 10
Needed a new truss rod cover. Very helpful and got it within the week. Excellent stuff!

Overall Rating : 10
Playing about 15 years. Also have a Gibson SG and a Grafter Semi. Play through a Twin. Semi pro - I gigg a couple of times a week. Tony Lommie of Black Sabbath changed from a Gibson SG to a Patrick Eggle Berlin until Gibson bribed him back again with more cash, so they must be good. Brian May often uses one too. Another important plus point is that Patrick Eggles, like Gibson and Fenders, hold their value, unlike all the Chinease, Korean etc. This is a good, versatile guitar that I am pleased I bought and I would certainly buy another if mine were stolen.

British made, 24 fret, solid wood with satin finish. Twin Humbucker pickups with volume and tone controls, three position pickup selector for neck neck/bridge and bridge with tone pull coil-tap. I'm not sure what make the pickups are, I know that they used Seymour Duncans on the later models but I think mine was made before that time. Body style is very similar to a typical PRS body (if there is such a thing). Tuners are Sperzel. Neck is medium to thin and not very deep, ideal for small hands like mine. Included was a gig bag.

Sound : 8
The sound was one of the things that sold me on this guitar, it has a nice tone that ranges from a rich mellow lead to an ever so slightly jangly rhythm sound. It's not quite as beefy sounding as a Les Paul and not as jangly as a Rickenbacker. I play all sorts of stuff (blues, jazz, rock, punk, folk, not metal though) and it suits them all equally well but then it's an electric guitar so a large part of the sound depends on the amp anyway.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is medium to low, I don't know enough about pickup adjustment to comment but the guitar feels solid, plays exceptionally well and stays in tune for a long time.

Reliability/Durability : 8
It's a well made guitar, it will easily withstand live playing, the finish is fine and doesn't wear off, all fixings are solid. It is dependable. Would I gig it without a backup, well yes because I don't gig often enough to justify buying a backup guitar but ideally no. This is not a reflection on the robustness of the instrument, just the fact that a guitar is inherently delicate and easily damaged no matter how well made it is.

Haven't had to deal with them, but my wife ordered a hard case for me as a present and she said that they were very helpful and friendly when she called to find out what case she needed. Guess they would be where a sale is concerned though. I have heard good things about them from other people too though but I won't give a mark as I have had no direct contact with them.

Playing for about 2 years, the rest of my gear is synth/sampler stuff. I would probably buy it again or at least use it as a benchmark when purchasing another guitar. I love the shape, feel, finish and tone in no particular order. I don't really hate anything about it or have a favourite feature. When buying I compared it to: Les Paul, Fender USA Stratocaster, Ibanez RG470, Fender Jazz Master, another Patrick Eggle, Washburn Tonewood, Fender Jag-Stang, A Jackson (don't remember the model), Fender USA Telecaster. I choose it because it played, sounded, and looked much better than all of the others. The only other guitar that I really liked was the Jazz Master but I don't like the shape or finish very much.
