Made in the UK, year it was first issue was '95 if I'm not mistaken. Iommi and the R&D people at Patrick Eggle went thru a few prototypes before coming up with the SG shape. I mean they used their PRS-like shape first. 24 frets, with a ZERO fret like the original JayDee(important featured not on Iommi's new Gibson signature model). Body was mahogany, one piece. Neck is mahogany too, one piece, small volute. Ebony fingerboard, with white binding. Cross inlays, not pearl, but silver-like. 2 volumes, one tone, 3-way toggle switch. HH Seymour Duncan custom designed for this model. They are of the blade type, passive.
Mine was a black finish, a few others are available, like Gibson's antique cherry for example. Bridge is I forgot the name a wrap-around tailpiece with fine-tunings, very precise. Sperzel locking tuners, 3 on a side. Neck size... radius is close to a Les Paul (12 maybe), soft D shape I would say. Case was great, cant remember the manufacturer's name but they're based in the UK, strong and light.
Strap pins are located like on a strat, I mean on the upper cutaway of the body, not on the back like a regular SG.
7, because of the slight flaw.

Sound : 8
It fits a lot of styles, just depends on your technique and the rig you use around it I'm sure.
I used it with a JCM 800, with an SD-1 overdrive pedal in front, but it didnt really do it. Otherwise with Laney's GH100S which is now the GH100TI (Tony Iommi signature).
It didnt really work with my usual setup. Use an added gain stage kind of amp like a 5150 or the above Laney and go straight in. Then it comes to life.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Bought is used, but in exc+ condition.
There was a slight flaw in the upper cutaway, a curve was not consistent, too much sanding I believe (took me a while to see it, but still it should never have been there).
Otherwise it was what it's expected to be be. Very good craftmanship.
The action was really nice, low with no buzz.
Had a little problem with one volume pot, but since it was used ...? Volume dropped a little once in a while, had it checked out.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Didn't use it live.
Finish looked solid. Same for the hardware, very solid.
Seems a very durable guitar. Use is without backup on a gig ? Could you play a whole gig with just a SG ? The answer is yours to give.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought used, never dealt with patrick Eggle except to ask for the price of the guitar.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Been playing for 8 years. I'm a Gibson guy, I own about 4 Les Pauls, one J60, etc...
Bought the guitar in Tokyo, Japan, I live in belgium and it was made in the Uk. That's it.
I sold that guitar, just didnt use it much. It was beautiful and really unique, hanging on my wall, but I bought another Gibson instead. The new Gibson Iommi SG is a joke. I'd get a JayDee if I could, but I'd like to check them out first of course. If this Patrick Eggle had a Gibson-like headstock and not their usual design I'd buy it again. Dont know what else to say. Try one, if you ever have the opportunity, but good luck finding a shop who has one in stock. I had to go to London, to a certain shop to see one, and it was -at the time- a lesser model with standard appointments (dot inlays, etc...). They're rare, even new!
