well, this guitar, is a guitar, possibly one of the best les pauls ever made in my opinion
it's japeneise made (1970's)
i replaced the pickups with dearmond gold tones, but the ones before were great too

the only fault i can find is the machine heads are not up too much
the neck is the best neck i've felt, it's not thin like a west tone, or fat like a dearmond, it's just right and has a kind off curv to the finger board
the most perfect neck.

Sound : 10
well i play avenged sevenfold, etc...
and i can say it suites all types of music easy
i use a marshalll master leadd and a zoom multi effex pedal
not the best in the worldm, but the guitar still sounds unbeleivable
the sound is just rightt

all like, i don't have oine dislike, oh the 1st fret buzzers but that should be a quick fix (;

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
i have no clue how it was set up

this guitar has no flaws, but a buzz on first fret

Reliability/Durability : 8
it will with stand live playing
i would use it on a gig with no back up and have

i trust this guitar

Customer Support : No Opinion
nopee, don't think so

im not quiet sure when it was made i believe in the 70s, it is shaped like a les paul but its obviously a copy. i bought it from cash converters for about 150 dollars. i think it might of been made by pearl but it only has 2 half diamonds on the head making 1 big diamond. the pickups have gone from gold to pretty much all silver they are h/h i think. 3 way switch at top corner. mahogany im pretty sure. the colour is all black. it has 22 frets plus a fret right at the top of the neck. it also is lined around the body and neck/head with a thin white slowly fading to a light tan outline (most likely from ageing) i would appreciate it if people could send me photos of there pearl guitars. shaped like a les paul, just to see if like mine

Sound : 10
the sound is great very fat blues sort of sound especialy warm with the neck pickup.the bridge/back one isnt really working to well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
the action is good to fiddle with, although i have noticed a little buzz on the g string 9th fret and 7th, cant hear it through amp though so its alright.

Reliability/Durability : 8
i reckon it would withstand live playing, the hardware would last a long time. the finish is durable enough. i could depend on it but i would bring my backup ibanez just in case but i reckon nothing would go wrong.

Customer Support : 1
i havent contacted pearl because im not quiet sure its from them but people at guitar store said it could be from rm or remus but nothing came up

Overall Rating : 10
iv only been playing 2 and a half years, i also own an ibanez rg560,a laney amp 65watt ibanez weeping demon, digitech rp50, ibanez acoustic and thats pretty much it. i reckon it would be as good or better than most gibson but thats what ive heard, the feel is great so i reckon not many guiatrs would compare anyway. if it were stolen i would try and buy another but if couldnt find one i would probably break down and cry(lol)

After a whole year of saving money i went to my local guitar shop to buy me finally that gibson les paul i was dreaming off... Man it felt like heaven... But then i saw this pearl les paul copy in the corner, beautifull reliced and decided to give it a try, just for fun, without any expectations... and man!!! WHAT A SURPRISE!!! With the bridge pickup it sounded a lot better than the gibson, no kidding!!! The sound from the neck pickup on the other hand was not that amazing, but to be honest, the gibson convinced me neither...
I played on a stock fender hot rod deluxe amplifier...

I decided to buy the guitar, knowing that when i was not happy with it after a couple of days, i could easily return it to the shop.
At home i plugged it into my marshall (vinatage modern combo) and played with so much joy!!! I cannot think of an other moment where i was so into guitarplaying-heaven... probably after our first gig, many years ago...

After a couple of weeks i changed the neck pickup for a Dimarzio Eric Johson custom neck pickup... And now i have got the guitar with a sound to die for...

I believe that the most important things for achieving a great tone is the guitar you play with and the amp you feed your signal to... I only use effects for modulations like tremelo and flanger, and for tuning on stage...

Please, keep in mind, i'm not selling my guitar on ebay or anything, i'm just a pearl les paul fan for life, one who tasted the gibson les paul and choose otherwise

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I bougt it second hand, reliced by use...

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
i only have a spare set of strings when i play a gig...

This is the best choice you can make, having compared the gibosn les paul with the pearl les paul... I'm not saying that it souns better than a vintage gibson, nver played on a vintage one...
If you can get your hands on one, try one, you'll be amazed!!!

I have an unusual Pearl Export Deluxe, made in the 80's. It is Black enamel, neck through, solid body, stop tailpiece, shaped similar to a Gibson SG only a little fatter below the waste and thicker than any other guitar i own. 2 x black and white humbuckers with 4 gold knobs a small chrome 2 way splitter switch, no scratchplate and very heavy in weight.Payed $80au at a pawnbrokers here in Australia. I cannot find anyone who has one of these, the only Pearls i can find are the LP copies and a couple of strat shape Pearls. If anyone has heard of what i have,i would really appreciate some info.

Sound : 9
Warm tones even when unplugged.Nice harmonics, Good for heavy blues but can't hang it of my shoulder for more than a few songs. It's heavy.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Plays well, low action, microscopic crack on the back of the neck where it joins the body.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Tough guitar which doesn't chip.
Could use it all night if you could hold it up.

Customer Support : 1
No info or anything, just static..................

30 yrs fiddling with guitars, i have 5, all foreign, 1 that i think is a hand made strat shape with all brass hardware, a beautiful neck and clear timber finish, also a neck through body, powerful H\H pickups , 4 Knobs and a phase switch. I have a friend with a clapton US strat and a 67(i think) US strat, he also has a 3 pick-up black Les paul and prefers to play my no-name strat. It is a nice guitar, payed $130au also from a pawnbroker in OZ. If my Black Pearl was taken from me, it would break my heart.

Made Early 80's in Japan. Body by Gherson, electrics by Pearl.
Solid Les Paul Clone. H/H Pickup config. Black with white edging.

Sound : 9
It sounds just like an old Les Paul, in exactly the same way most Epiphone Les Pauls don't.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
This one is certainly scarred, but it adds to it's character. The original machine heads have been replaced, and a Bowen Handle (cheap Bigsby) added. I play with the Bowen locked, and the tunings solid as a rock.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The way it is now 10 10 10

Overall Rating : 10
I bought this one to get a nice meaty sound, but find that I'm using it more and more than my Fenders.

The shape is the same as a Gibson Les Paul.I have no idea when was this guitar made,a friend gave it to me 4-5 years ago!he said he bought from a store in Liege,Belgium in 1977 and didn't touch it from 1985 until the day he wrapped it and gave it to me!two pickups, the neck one is absolutely amazing, the bridge one was ****** so i changed it to a dimarzio superdistortion. Tuners not that good so i changed them too.I guess all these problems the guitar had were generated because it wasn't taken care of!(my friend's fault)

Sound : 9
The sound is very bluesy, especially the neck pickup has a very warm,blues-like sound...it gives me the chills!!!I don't use any effects when I'm playing with it 'cause the effects don't deserve to be connected to such a masterpiece as this guitar is!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
All the scratches and damages on the body were done by my friend's inability to take care of such a precious guitar!I don't know whether it was well set-up or something,i guess it was until it came into my friend's possession!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is very reliable, especially on lives where it only sounds no less than amazing!!!If I would ever lose this guitar,I'll just stop playing guitar...no guitar comes this close to this guitar's sound, smoothness and look!

Customer Support : 1
zero...!and i mean ZERO!i can't find anything related to a pearl guitar, never saw one sold through the internet and generally i have no idea who actually built this guitar!Whoever it was though,he's my idol!

Overall Rating : 10
I think this guitar sounds almost as amazing as an original 60s/70s Les Paul!Ok,i'm lying...IT'S MUCH BETTER!!!

It is just a Les Paul, nothing more, nothing less.
Bought it second hand. Some laquer is pealing off.
It's black, set neck, two humbuckers, probably original.
Paid next to nothing for it.

Sound : 10
I use it for Jazz, for rockin' and for just fiddlin around. My amps vary a lot as i buy and sell them. At the moment I play it over a Dynacord Jazz and a Roland cube 15. Through a Boss RRV 10 reverb, a Digitech Bad Monkey and a Jimi Hendrix Wah (dunlop JH1)
Allthough I sometimes prefer my slightly jazzier sounding Crafter SEG 300, whenever i am in a les paul state of mind i pick up this pearl and forget everything around me. It sounds like good sex feels.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Pots were rotten, replaced some. Paint on the back of the neck came of a little which never bothered me. For the rest it feels really sturdy and murderweaponlike.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Will last forever.

Pearl?
Are they the drumming kit makers?

Couldn't even find info on this guitar on the web.

Then again, who needs support?

Overall Rating : 10
Wouldn't trade it for a gibson and it is certainly superior to any epi i ever played.

I own one of the "mysterious" Pearl made Les Paul models. I bought it back in 1997 in Eastern Europe from a local dealer as a second hand.
The dealer knew nothing about it, just threw in some dubious story about the seller being a musician "forced" to sell.

I gave the guitar to a professional repairmen who worked for one of the Fender production facilities in the USA. Needless to say he did miracles with it.
When I picked it up he just said to me: "If you ever want to sell this let me know. This guitar is any bit as good as a Gibson".

My personal opinion is that everything apart from the original pickups is excellent. The original pickups are somewhat questionable. Very smear and blurred tone; that's why I changed them to Seymour Duncan Alnico II.

I've been playing guitar for almost 15 years now as a hobbyist and did some gigs occasionally. The body of the Pearl Les Paul can only compare to hand made USA produced custom Gibson Les Paul. The Standard Les Paul that can be frequently found in Guitar Center and other retailers is not as good as the Pearl.

Can anyone share their knowledge about who made these Pearls and when?
Everyone so far seems to be in the dark and I haven't been able to retrieve any information from the Internet or local guitar pundits.

Thanks!

Alnico II - sounds like live Slash.

The heaviest guitar I have ever played. I have dropped this baby twice during the years and albeit the body work has suffered the guitar is still in perfect playing condition.

not existent.

Overall Rating : 8
Setting aside the brand worshipers an objective appraiser would say an overall 8.0.

My particular piece has suffered two major falls (and i am pretty tall) which resulted in a broken neck (repaired professionally) and a huge concavity on the back of the body. Apart from that with the new pickups and new frets it is in a league of its own.

I would give it an overall 8.

My Pearl Les Paul copy is in a cherry sun burst finish, akin to any other LP standard. Nice inlays, qulity finish, few dings and scratches but she's been around. This section is a bit difficult as I have had done quite a bit of work since my original purchase, such is my love for this guitar. All the hardware was generic at purchase, and it only had five strings. It had epiphone neck and bridge humbuckers, two sets of tone/volume controls, three way treble bass middle selector and oddly screw holes for that really cool sratch plate on LP Standards (absent at time of purchase). The PU surrounds were black as was the PU selector plate and the tone/volume knobs. Couldn't tell you the woods involved here however the body appears to be constructed of three pieces of wood and the neck is spliced into it seemlessly.

Sound : 10
At the age of sixteen and in the time of Nirvana in a moment of clarity I recieved a thought... I would like a guitar and amd cheap such that I might jam and on occassion make music. At a flea market some three months later I found this LP standard with lead and Coronet amp (which was so Doors)amazing. Nearly twelve years on and this is still my main guitar. Early years i played Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Grunge essentially , now days blues, jazz, funk, rock, this guitar is quite capable, but lends itself to grit full tone warm sounds. I love this guitar. I've written so much music on it and had some great adventures. Some one else here mentioned the action? I agree with this mine is set low and fast, it hasn't moved in nearly three years since its last major luthiers visit notably high sustain and has aged well since I suspect the 70's?!. I could go on easily... but I wont get to gushy promise.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Given that when Ifound this guitar it had fve rusty strings, that all it needed was new strings and a tune, I'd say build quality was pretty damn accurate. At the time I was a novice and the older more expirienced I become the more I realise how good this guitar is. Over the years I have changed the pu's to gibson 58+'s and the tone/volume knobs to gold LP 1-11 , the PU surrounds are modified gibson and I've a white scratch plate. I've also changed the heads and the bridge and had it re -fretted.All to improve both the asthetic and more importantly the playability and sound of this beautiful instrument.

Reliability/Durability : 10
One word, SOLID. However the vintage and rarity and pure sentimentality would have me think twice about touring with her. Still should the gig require it...

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playiying near on twelve years. I could not want for better. This guitar is a friend. Were it stolen, no end to find it and fierce retribution to the perpitrator.
