1993 Baby blue Metalic finish strat body with a white pickguard, Maple neck, rosewood fret board. H-S-H pickups with 5 way switch 1 tone 1 volume. Floyd Rose/Peavey locking trem. USA made. Peavey pickups are long gone for EMG active and 2 empty holes.

Sound : 10
I play metal. I like the tone and and the intonation. This guitar out-rite ROCKS. EMG's were added for prefrence. The tone of the origional pickups was excelent though. The single coil wasn't that great but thats not my bag.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar was fit perfectaly from the factory. I have never adjusted the action, only the spring tension for the trem. The finish is perfect except one clear coat chip on the corner of the routed hole for the trem, about a 1/16 of an inch, but it did not go through the paint. Im not sure but I think this chip came from the factory, probably during assembly. Finish is not in good shape due to being "babied". The neck is still flawless. The hardshell case sucked (guitar actually fell through and hit the sidewalk) and is now about 50% duct tape but it still works.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have broke guitars in ways that most people have never heard of. This guitar was bought to replace a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that I broke the neck on while bending the body for tremolo effect. Little brother (bass player) sudgested guitar with a Floyd Rose so this was my first. I used it many times with no backup guitar at gigs. I recorded 2 albums with it (and currently a third). This guitar has looked at thousands people. I also broke somebodys teeth out with it once. I have tried to replace it with a slew of guitars I have bought in the past and I still always go back to old blue.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I do my own repair work and have never blamed a guitar maker. If there was something wrong with it initially I would not have bought it. I think I threw all the paperwork in the trash before I left the store.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing since I was 6 years old, and professionally since I was 19 (33 now). I have had and still have BC Rich, Jackson, Gibson, Fender, ESP and a grip of cheapies and copies and this is first and formost my favorite guitar. It is the standard to which all my guitars are measured. If fame hits I will make Peavey reproduce this model. My band hates this guitar and wants me to nail it to the bandroom wall. I wish it wasn't ugly ass baby blue but it still looks to good to refinish.

This is a blue Peavey Detonator made in the USA. Poplar strat style body painted a nice middle blue with a bit of a sparkle to the finish - classy not over the top. Thin fast natural finish hardrock maple neckand headstock are one single piece (I measure 53/64" deep(back to top of fingerboard) just below nut) (I measure 1 43/64" wide across fingerboard just below nut). Headstock at shallow angle(I measure 8 degrees). String tree over all 6 strings. Rosewood fingerboard with 15" radius 24 medium jumbo frets - excellent fret size - 25.5" scale length with Mother of Pearl dot inlays. Chrome hardware (including string tree). Peavey brand Floyd rose licensed tremolo with fine tuners and a locking nut. H/S/H white Peavey wound ceramic high output (hot) pickups. Black truss rod cover. White pickguard. 5-way pickup switch. 1 Vol 1 Tone white knobs. Straploks installed with a blue strap. (The woodtypes and radius mentioned above are from the manual which can be downloaded easily from Peavey.com).

This guitar sounds great. I play out of a Peavey Rage 158 practice amp or a Carvin 150 Watt amp with a Korg AX30G processor(great unit by the way Dimebag Darrell used it too sometimes). I play mostly heavy metal and this thing scorches. The bridge pickup screams (all of my pickups are stock btw) and I can get great artificial harmonics out of it. The neck pickup is a little muddy. I have settled with the best harmonics being on the bridge pickup with the tone at 10. I've had this guitar since 1994 when I was a kid.(and it was made in 1994 I checked). It is a metal axe yet with a new set of strings it really sings even when unplugged and has great tone and sustain for a floyd equipped instrument. The single coil is noisy but the humbuckers are silent. I recently played a crappy guitar equipped with Zakk Wylde EMG 81 and 85 and make no mistake these peavey pickups are not active and don't scream and bleed like those EMGs but the stock sound is nevertheless excellent.

It was already adjusted great when I bought it from a local store. The electronics are cleanly installed which augments their durability. I've had it for 10 years now and got it professionally set-up recently for the first time since I bought it. It was worth it because the action is better(lower) and there was some buzzing on the low e BUT it turned out it wasn't that maladjusted even after travelling and being beaten up for 10 years. Impressive.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is rock solid. I've only recently come to realize how great this guitar is. My first guitar was an Ibanez (entry-level)and it only took a few years for the electronics to start having problems but by that point I had this Peavey guitar so it didn't really matter to me. I realized recently that although this guitar has been through hell and back with me I've never had ANY problems with it and in fact its in amazing condition. I say amazing condition and that is true. It has dozens of nicks, holes, and scratches because I am brutal to it. Yet they show no signs of getting worse and only 2 are visible from more than 3 feet away. The electronics are still PERFECT. No plugs have come loose, nothing is scratchy. The small white plastic handle that was on the pickup switch is gone. That is IT! I put straploks on it since it dropped once while I was playing. Remember that above I mentioned that I didn't have it set-up for 10 years and it wasn't very maladjusted. Amazing durability(which from what I understand is nothing new for Peavey instruments). The neck feels better than ever.

Customer Support : 10
They have been very helpful and their website is also. I downloaded the manual from the website and contacted them on the forums to find out exactly how old my guitar was. Remember that if a company puts out a durable and reliable product it is much easier to maintain a high level of customer service because less is needed in the first place.

I love the Detonator's neck. In my recent shopping I've played a lot of great guitars (probably about 30 so far) the only guitar I've found with a neck that I liked more than this guitar is the Peavey Vandenberg. It's neck has exactly the same feel but is thinner and so it plays a little more comfortable (if you are comfortable with thin necks anyway). The Peavey Tracer's neck is very similar to this Detonator and the T15 has a great similar feel.

I bought this guitar as a kid and I remember liking it because it seemed so much more comfortable at the time and had all the features I wanted. When I bought it I compared it to many different Ibanezes since I wanted something with a floyd. I was enamored with several from the catalogs I had and went to the store to play them and ended up liking this more because it was more comfortable in my estimation.

Recently I've been shopping for guitars because I want to find out if there is something out there that I might like more. I think I'll be able to find something I like as much or more, but I also think I'm extremely lucky to have stumbled upon this guitar as a kid. Its extremely well made, perfectly suited for my purposes and if I had bought ANY other guitar 10 years ago I can't imagine it would have suited me as well as this one has.

Let me know if anyone has any questions. This guitar is a great value. It was a great value at $650 when I bought it and they go for much less now and they are totally worth it. I might get another one.

I used to have a Gibson copy where each pickup had it's own volume and tone control. I don't like the single volume and tone knobs. However I love the Floyd Rose. I love the neck. It feels great to the touch and is easy to play.

Sound : 8
I play all kinds of music and it is very versatile. You can switch to the single coil and play twang or go the neck and lay down some heavy grunge.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I bought it used an there were some blemishes. It still is in pretty good shape though and looks good after I cleaned it up a bit.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I haven't had it long enough to really tell

I broke the locking nut by turning the screws too far and had to order a new one, so I went onto Peavey's interactive forum and talk to tech support and they gave me the help I needed. They are awesome.

Overall Rating : 9
I would have opted for the Detonator Ax, just because it has the cooler pick guard, but this was well worth the money. If I could I would buy a brand new one. If they still made them that is.
