Well this relic: generation standard : i belive was made in at least in 1989, there fore it is at least 15 years old when i bought it in febuary of 2003, for $250 at the House of Guitars, in Rochester Ny, Its my first guitar-
It looked like it been there for ages it was covered in dust but i was suprised that it was made in the usa! Two controls for volume and tone like my friends bass. acording to the manual two h.s.c noiseless pickups. Nice tele esc body. Flamed maple neck in excelent condition, nice diecast tuners, virtual same as on any fender telecaster's neck. 3 way selector switch. 22 Nickle/silver-25 1/2" scale frets-not too shabby!Chrome bridge

Sound : 10
Im still learning but its great range like most tele-on the back single nice winey twang, front single got a good warm tones-and together a nice clean standard tele sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Well this guitar been through hell in that basement it had all sorts of straches a slight gauge in the front but a nice blood red color nice polyuthearn/ester coat no noticible imperfections in the piant it self but i got $20 bucks off roughfly do to the scratches and im not to hung up on flawness and i was gonna probaly scratch it up anyways some time even though its techicly "new"

Reliability/Durability : 10
seems pretty solid it can take a beating good strap buttons would be asamed to play with it infront of people-

Sound : 9
THIS GUITAR DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A TELE // HAS A SOUND OF IT'S OWN WHICH IS WARMER AND DARKER // GREAT TONE // REALLY BUTTER'S UP GOING THRU MY CLASSIC 30 FOR A COUNTRY SOUND AND BLUES. BALLS TO THE WALL GOING THROUGH MY MUSIC MAN RD50 AND PEAVEY 12SX FOR ROCK.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
THIS MODEL IS THE GENERATION SERIES STANDARD. THE BODY IS BLUE // NECK IS A LITTLE THICKER THAN MY 50'S TELE REISSUSE BUT THE QUALITLY OF THE MAPLE NECK IS SLICK AND FAST. I HAD TO ADJUST THE TONATION AND RAISE THE BRIDGE PICK-UP AT BOTTOM. FEW DINGS NOTHING BAD // GREAT SHAPE FOR A GUITAR OVER 12 YEARS

Reliability/Durability : 9
THIS LITTLE AX SEEMS SOLID AS A ROCK. I WOULDN'T BE ASHAMED OR AFRAID TO TAKE IT ANYWHERE. FROM READING OTHER REVIEWS ON THIS GUITAR, I MADE A GOOD CHOICE BUYING IT. GREAT LIVE OR PRACTICE.

Customer Support : 9
CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH PEAVEY TO DATE THIS GUITAR. THE FOLKS AT PEAVEY WERE MORE THAN HELPFULL. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL PEAVEY AMPS AND THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT.

Overall Rating : 9
I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR TWENTY 20 YEARS AND FEEL LIKE A KNOW A GOOD GUITAR WHEN I PLAY ONE. THIS GUITAR RETAILED FOR $420 NEW. FOR THE PRICE I PAID COULD DO NO WRONG ON THIS LITTLE BITCH. I OWN A G&L SKYHAWK AND A FENDER 50'S TELE REISSUE. MY AMPS ARE A MUSIC MAN RD50 AND AND PEAVEY CLASSIC 30. IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THESE ARE RARE TO FIND AND VERY AFFORDABLE FROM OTHER REVIEWS. I WAS LOOKING FOR A GOOD BACK UP GUITAR AND FOUND A NICE LITTLE PLAYER. PROUD TO OWN IT AND WOULD BUY ANOTHER. I'M SURE OTHER PEOPLE MIGHT DOG YOU FOR PLAYING A CHEAPER AX BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE MISSING.

Sort of a Cobalt blue color. Maple neck. Stock Peavey silver hardware and single coil p/u's. Your basic Telecaster setup. I don't know the wood...check the reviews below. Had it for maybe 3 years.

Sound : 9
I run this through a tweed deluxe clone with the stock Peavey p/u's to play blues. I have a ton of effects pedals but don't use them with this combination. It's that basic Chess Records blues sound that most of us love so much.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
All stock Peavey parts. Typical outstanding Peavey neck. Smallish frets. I bought this 2nd hand...don't know original condition.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I gig with this regularly. I don't really use back up guitars.I bring other guitars to get other sounds. This guitar definitely stands it own ground though and could be used for a wide variety of other styles.

25 years playing. I care more about what amp I'm playing through than the guitar really. It makes no sense to me whatsoever to pay $500 and up for a name brand one of these when these can be had so cheaply. Been there, done that and it's just plain stupid. This Generation Tele is the best playing and sounding tele I've ever been around. I'd call it "Albert Lee worthy".

I would like to echo the positive comments made by earlier reviewers.

I bought my red Generation Series locally (Brandon, Manitoba). I actually even-traded a Japanese Fender Strat which the store then sold for $300.

I have verified with a Peavey dealer that my guitar is a 1994 model.

Sound : 10
What I especially like about the Generation Series is that all of the tonal range is usable. We play a mixture of Country, Rock 'n Roll and Blues and there's a sound for each. It doesn't screech like a Tele!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The body on my guitar is superb. Unfortunately, a previous owner tried to put in his own fret markers along the top edge of the neck (at the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 10th frets), but it's only visible to the player and, once you're used to these extra markings, quite handy under dodgy bar lighting!

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar is very stable and stays in tune extremely well.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for thirty-seven years, and it's the nicest guitar I've ever played, though for playability my 70's Ibanez Artist would have been pretty close.

Made about 10-12 years ago (best guess) in the U.S.A. this is your tipical 22 fret neck type set-up. I was told that it is a chambered mahogany body with a maple top,(if any one can confirm this, then please let me know), it has a three way selector a la telecaster and a single volume and single tone control. Both pick ups are single coil and are stock. The finish on this guitar is a gloss metallic white with the shape of a telecaster but has a front contouring similar to a LesPaul and a back cut out like a stratocaster but it has no arch top. The ultra fast and smooth matt finish neck is a by cut design made from two seperate peice of maple and a maple fingerboard. It also has a neck angle adjuster at the base of the neck (darned nice feature) it also features six individual intonators that are each independant of each other coupled with a string thru body design. The tuners look like stock schallers but no logo on them, but they are firmer and smoother than the spurzel tuners on my G&L. This guitar is also unusually light for the mass of the body, a telecaster would weigh in at an easy 50% more weight. The frets are a mid weight fret wire that seem to be made from a fairly good aloy.

Sound : 10
I bought this guitar bassed on what it would look like on stage ( it is drop dead gorgeous ) and was prepared to do whatever modifications that were necessary to make it sound good as long as the body and neck was solid. I was not prepared for what happened when I got it home.I play just about every style under the sun, from clean blues to shreder type death metal and every thing in between, I run a stereo effect rack with a delta blues amp on one side with an extention classic 1/12 cab and a hot rod deville on the other side, the wiring also gets pretty exotic and is a roadie's nightmare. Well guess what? The guitar was more than well suited suited for my set up, this honey is unreal, it's a little/lot warmer than a telecaster the neck pic up is smooth mellow with just a hint of edge and the bridge pick up is slightly nasal with razor bite but only if you hit it hard. This guitar thinks it's a Paul Reed Smith, I rolled of the tone about 30% and I could swear that the pick ups are dual coils the output of the guitar is not as hot as a PRS or a LP but thats easy to fix on the input level of my rack.I have only had this guitar two days and had it on stage at a major event only six hour after I bought it. This puppy is a full ranger and doesn't seem to limited.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this guitar used and the action was actually well set up but way to low for my liking and I had to bring up the action and intonate it for my liking. I wish I could have bought this guitar new, I am disapointed that there are 4 or 5 minor dings on the surface but they are compression marks and can't be seen three or four feet away, it's very hard to believe that this guitar is more than just a few months old. New this guitar had to be flawless, it's almost perfect after 10/12 years.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This baby is The Rock of Gibraltar It is refusing to go out of tune or to blow strings, I strech 3 to 5 semitones on 10 to 46 guage and I play hard ( not abusive ) with no problems. I always gig with a minimum of three guitars and that can get as high as seven but I can see myself favoring this guitar and in a pinch I would not think twice of using it alone. All I need to do now is go down to my local music store and get some strap locks before it gets droped like my LesPaul did (yikes)

Customer Support : 1
I have been dealing in peavey gear for about 15 years and if this guitar is as solid as their amps then I'll never get to use their services or warantees

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for thirty five years now, and the guitars that would impress me should be few and far between and generally are but this guitar is just one of those extremely well tonally balanced guitars and though there are guitars that are better suited to specific purposes few will do it all as well as this one. I would have to hunt high and low to find another guitar like this one as I understand that they are fairly rare and the condition of this one makes it a one of a kind, woe be to the person that would try to take it from me. Peavey should really re-ish this guitars, this is a winner !!!

Peavey Generations were manufactured in the late 80's. Proudly made in the USA. The body is a cross between a Fender Telecaster, a Les Paul, & a PRS. It is shaped like a Telecaster with a mohagony body and flame maple top. ( Les Paul ) The maple top is carved like a PRS. It is really an eye-catcher. The neck is bi-laminated flame maple with a rosewood fingerboard. It has a 25 1/2 scale - 12" radius. It has a silky smooth satin finish on the neck which gives it a very natural feel. Humbucker in the bridge position and single coil in the neck.I replaced the stock pickups with a Gibson and a Duncan. One volume & one tone control and one coil tap switch for the humbucker. String through Tele-style bridge. It is right up there with the Les Paul as far as weight.

Sound : 10
Been playing it through two Fender Super 60's. It has a very versitle sound. The wood configuration alows it to produce a great Les Paulish tone in the humbucker pos. flip the coil tap and you have a very usable single coil tone. The maple neck gives it some of that Fender spank. It could be used for many styles of music from country to metal.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It has a beautiful finish. The carved flame maple top reveals top notch craftsmenship. The electronics are very quiet. This $800 Peavey easily compares to guitars costing twice as much. It's a beauty.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The gloss finish is very durable. It is built like a tank and weighs just as much. I have had no problems with it at all. I would not hesitate to use it live without a backup. I am giving it a nine because of it's weight although the weight does contribute to its awsome tone.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used them.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for eight years. I have owned a Gibson Explorer & a SG, a Les Paul Studio, and a couple of Ibenez. The Generation covers it all. I wish it weighed a little less but i guess you can't have everything. Peavey no longer makes the Generation series. I don't no why they are great guitars. I haven't seen to many around. If you run across one check it out. I have never been a Peavey fan but I have to hand it to em on this one.

I purchased this used and believe it to be a Generation 2. Mahgoney back, Maple top, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard. It has single volume and tone control knobs, a 3-way pickup selector, two pick-ups, and a bridge pickup switch (single or double coil). It is single cutaway (tele style). The frets were bone dry and it has taken a good bit of oil to get them back to a smooth finish. It is somewhat scratched up on the back and is certain to have been a "workin' man's" guitar. From research I have found that the original retail on the guitar was +/- $800 US. It is well constructed but lacks that knock-out finish that you find on other high-end instruments. It has a brass hard tail the is adjustable for action and intonation.
The fret board is good but not great. It is suitable for most guitarist except those that were really picky about a "very smooth" fretboard. I plan to use for 0000 steel wool on it to get it a little smoother.

Sound : 9
This is the reason I purchased the guitar. I play retro-rock and blues with a touch of jazz. To relate to you the sound, think of the best tele' you have ever heard (say Steve Cropper or Albert Collins) and warm it up. Hard driving pick-ups, especially the bridge. I play it with both pick-ups activated (center position) and and the tone backed off 1/4 from wide open for most of the rock/blues. The bridge pick-up alone give a fantastic tone for KA Country.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I purchased this used but it appears to have never been adjusted from the factory specs. I adjusted the pick-ups to 1/4 on the big E and 1/8 on the little E. I also re-set the action. It looks as though the actions was set for heavy guage strings. I run hybird 9's and could bring it down a little. The neck is fast and feels like a tele'. Most of the metal on the guitar is brass and has lost the lacquer. I will probably not repair this as this will be a stage instument for me and it is not for show. Again, the fret board was not high quality Rosewood and needs a little smoothing.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I never play without a backup although my Peavey Bandit (+ add on cabinet) has never failed me. I have just purchased the guitar two weeks ago and it seems solid; No problems with either the electronics or the wood. Stated earlier that this appears to be the ex-owners working guitar and I plan to do the same. I have played two gigs and a couple of practice sessions with it with no problem.

Customer Support : 8
I have never had to call Peavey on this guitar, but if the service on it is anything like I have had on other Peavey equipment it will be top notch.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for almost 25 years and usually play a CA Fat tele', mex-strat, and a '64 Epiphone Sorrento. I have now started using the Peavy almost exclusively. I am very please with the guitar and think that it was well worth the money I paid for it. Unfortunately there aren't many of these around and Peavey has gone wild about the EVH Wolfgang. I would put my Generation up against the EVH any day.
If you like the tele' sound, you will love this guitar. The only thing I would change is to have the neck pickup be a humbucker also.
