the best ever. the other guitarist in my band just bought a new sg and it is horrible at the side of my impact. the hambucker with the single/off/hambucker switch is something I had only dreamed off. The kalher trem system is awesome... you have to adjust each time the tension as it is equivalent to those of the strings, same theory of a floyd rose, and then it has no tunning problems... for those who gave bad rating for it... then the frets, pretty cool, it buzzes so I had to put a bit higher the first string then it sounded nicely, it actually did not get me into troubles having too high the string... the fretboard still allows me to play pretty fast. My guitar is white body, black fretboard, also told it was graphite but don??t believe it that is no doubt plastic. and the hadrware gold with black pickups.

Sound : 9
That hambucker sounds awesome and cries like . . . anything you name, the single coil ni the neck I put it a bit high so that it has awesome powerful sound and i use for clean sound the middle coil a bit lower tan the other two, amazing combinations for live playing, I just play with the pickups and I can get, heavy, crying, o rclean sound. I would like a smooth sound like the les paul. but not possible, anyway I dont play jazz ... just rock...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
fretboard I just say I like it. the gold crome fell off but who cares it is not flawed. the white looks bueatiful if I am to mention that the guitar is really old, twice as me. about 30 years.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have actually used it in gigs without backup, and used it in gigs without backup but finally did not used the backup, for 2 hours or more or playing. I only change guitars if I need one song in drop or some other tunning. I think the neck needs alittle straighten for it does gave me trouble with using a low action, anyway physics tells us that the best sound is given not in low action... sorry for fast players, but this guitar still kicks ass, and I do fast playing without the low action... does not give me any trouble. One of the connections is broken, those creamic parts and makes the tone sound fuzzy when I change it but still mantains a smooth change of tone ... pretty amazing. I would not have acquired a guitar that old but this one I really depend on it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never tried reaching them, never needed them.

Overall Rating : 10
this is my guitar ... don??t change it for another, even if I had the money to buy a gibson, I would not trade it or buy one, don??t say any other guitar. A bit heavy, but I already got used to it. I do the tremolo all day and it hardly brakes the tunning, I veryfied it when I started using it on stage and I will keep using it for some time be sure. Checking on the prices as they were listed in the review I would not hasitate buying another one of these... hate that they still don??t make them. The kalher is amazing... now I do not understand why people use floyd roses.

The Peavey Impact 1 is a solid body electric guitar with HSS pickup configuration and a locking Kahler tremolo system. My Impact 1 is a sweet pearl white with gold hardware. The guitar neck is hard rock maple with an unusual plastic fretboard and slightly smaller than medium frets. There are three micro switches for pickup selection, one of which is a three-way switch that splits the humbucker (single/off/humbucker). One volume and one tone knob.

Sound : 10
The pickup combinations are numerous - possibly too numerous. I think the switches give me pod-syndrome (playing with switches and knobs more than playing music). The tone is great on all settings. I like that I can have the brilliance of a strat and the crunch of an SG. I'll often play the humbucker AND the neck single coil for a very unique crunch with a clean boom which is great for a full sound. I play through a Vox AD120 modeling amp. My other electric is a Gibson SG. I practice blues only so that I can mix it into my rock. I mostly play rock from classic to hard (but not metal). This guitar easily covers my music territory. The Impact may look like a big-hair rocker but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for ringing-out the jazz and country.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The Impact 1 is a quality instrument made in the USA so you know the quality is better than any shred guitar from Korea. My guitar was listed on Ebay until I stole it for $250. The action was the lowest I've seen on any guitar without a buzz. My SG is strung like a longbow compared to the Impact. The Kahler tremolo is highly adjustable and a very under rated trem. The neck is nicely shaped and the frets are very very smooth. The playability is fantastic! The body wood has the density of pure gold ??? it???s HEAVY! With the Kahler tremolo, this guitar easily outweighs a Les Paul and quite possibly out-sustains a Les Paul.

Reliability/Durability : 9
My Impact has/had gold hardware. The gold plating is so thin that it has disappeared from the tuner handles but I don???t care. The Kahler tremolo system is awesome. I like it more than a Floyd Rose because I can palm mute the same as I do on my SG. I've not had any tuning problems and I've been diving like Greg Louganis ??? seriously, my strings are spaghetti and they snap back in tune. The ???shock-mount??? jack was a little crackly when I got it but it???s not a bad idea to replace the jacks every TWENTY years (I don???t really count that against it so I???ll only subtract for the thin Gold plating).

Customer Support : 10
C???mon this is Peavey, you can find all you need to know online. If you just want to chat then call them and you???ll probably speak to the CEO. I???ve talked to them on several occasions and they???re great. They returned my e-mails in less than ten minutes.

Overall Rating : 10
I???ve not decided if I like the plastic fingerboard because I really like the ebony fingerboard on my SG. My only true complaint is that it???s too heavy but other than that I love it. The weight does add to the sustain; this guitar has massive sustain esp. for one with a trem. This guitar is more stable than my SG; the more I play - the more I become a fan of the maple neck guitars.
I???m left handed and Peavey didn???t make these in a lefty. I like this guitar so much I may have one custom built (except lighter). If this guitar was left handed I???d handcuff it to me and buy an adjacent burial plot. There are so many reasons why I like this guitar. Ok, so it might be a little white trash looking but I don???t think that is such a bad thing. If it was lost then I would begin to walk upright, cancel my next few chiropractic appointments, and immediately begin the search for another. If it was stolen I???d immediately check all the local hospitals for new patients suffering from back pain and interrogate them. It???s a great guitar for a great price and I don???t plan on parting with it.

Kahler locking tremolo, polyglide fingerboard, came with SSH pups. I would prefer a rosewood or ebony fingerboard, the plastic grabs fingers. Tuners seem to be similar to Schallers. It is transparent red polyurethane on a strat style body. Made around 1985.

Sound : 9
It rocks now that I put in a neck humbucker, much better rhythm tone, works much better with the bridge HB. Sound with humbuckers is very similar to a Les Paul when playing clean. The single coil pups are not too good in my opinion, they don't have much range or brilliance. HBs make it rock.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
After nearly 20 years in whatever hands, it still looks good, it must have been really sharp new.

Reliability/Durability : 7
The Kahler hardware is very well made. I don't like the polyglide finger board, as I said, it is too sticky, it slows down the fingers. It seems to hold tune pretty well, especially since I blocked the trem solid. I use it as a beater, it is no longer gig-quality, neither am I.

Customer Support : 1
I emailed service and left questions on the forum, no response from the company. I don't think they care to support such an old guitar.

Overall Rating : 8
Playing off and on for 30 years, I still suck, it's a hobby. If it were stolen I'd hope my insurance company would give me $500 bucks. I like it because it's a rare animal and because it has overall excellent build and hardware. It's a pretty good axe for $180.00

This is a charcoal grey Impact I I bought in 1988 (actually, traded in a '79 Les Paul Standard for it...how was I supposed to know Les Paul's appreciated in value?!?!?!?). It has a slightly oversized Strat body style, with 2 single coils, and 1 humbucker, and has a Kahler whammy. The neck is thin and fast

Sound : No Opinion
The sound of this guitar is awesome, and is the reason why I got rid of my Les Paul for it. The humbucker is loud, thick, and clear. With 3 pick up switches I can get a total of 11 sounds. It gets a decent tel, gretch, and strat sound. The only thing it doesn't do is the Les Paul neck pick up warm jazz sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
The finish is polyurethane. Actually, I can't stand the color! I think it's ugly as could be, but once again, the sound is incredible! The guitar was set up fine. The action is fast, and the hardware seems fine. I've had no problems with the Kahler whammy going out of tune, and I prefer it to a Floyd Rose. The only problem with the guitar was that the high E string had a tendency to "fall off" the neck, so I got a new nut with the string spacing placed better.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is solid as could be. Extremely durable, and dependable. It has a few chips in it from a few falls over the years, but no permanent damage from falls.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with them yet

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 30 years. My current rig is an Acoustic 160 amp head, Univox Speaker cabinet with 2 Pyle drivers. I use a Rat pedal, Digitech RP-100, Danelectro surf and turf compressor, Digitech Delay, Boss Chorus CE-1, and a Boss Distortion DS-1. I tend to focus on playing stuff like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Phil Keaggy, Eric Clapton, and Rik Emmett of Triumph like I said I felt that this guitar was worth getting rid of my Les Paul for. I think the tonal flexibility of this guitar is awesome! Recently, I've compared it to several American Strats and Teles, Schecter guitars, Ibanez Artist, etc., and it beats them hands down. My only complaints about this guitar is that I think it is ugly as could be, and I prefer a thick, chunky neck. If it hadn't been for those 2 things I would have probably given it a 10.

Uve read all the features i wont bore u... but everyone is talking about tuning problems... i got mine professionaly re-tunned on a strobe tunner and havent had a problem since. However, i did switch out the humbucker for a DiMarzzio Tone-Zone, and i am probably going to switch out the single coils to suit my more aggressive style.

Sound : No Opinion
the original sound of the humbucker was wack... so i switched it out as i said before.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the action was the whole reason i bought the guitar. the neck is graphite(i think) and is smooth and ultra fast.

i havent had a problem besides some early tuning problems

I don't know about this guitar. First the stats. 22 fret; volume and tone; single, single, humbucker(neck to ass); kayler locking setup, which I have been told is the source of many of my tuning woes. Neck is made of some damn material?!? Told it was graphite. If I tune it standing, then sit back, the damn thing goes sharp?!?!? Damn thing weighs as much as a gibson explorer. Heavier than shit. Left shoulder 3 inches lower than right after 2 hours! Beautiful blach finish throughout(including fretboard). Awesome hardcase. Top end.

Sound : 7
I play rock, progressive rock, melodic schtuff too. I have played it through many rigs and have always been pleased, except for excessive feedback problems. No matter where I play, how big or small the room, I have feedback problems. As for sound quality, quiet between, rich and fat during, always pleased after.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I always rebuild guitars I buy used. What I cant fix, I get repaired professionally. I had to get the neck shimmed when I bought it. But that may be normal wear. Other than that was geared for sound quite well. If only it were geared for tune as well. Just doesn't hold it.

Reliability/Durability : 3
My guitar would not withstand live playing. Requires tuning every song. I am told that this is typical of the style of Kayler bridge that I have. Whatever the problem, it has kept me from falling completely in love with this guitar. Finish is still fantastic, as is hardware. Unfortunately, I would never use this guitar for a gig due to its tuning unreliability.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought it used, no warranty.

Overall Rating : 7
If I ever figure out the tuning bugs with this damn thing I am gonna love it. Until then it's like having Pamela Anderson with grotesque buck teeth. Sure I'll fuck her, but I just could never love her.

Bought my first Impact 1 in 1988. Has 22 frets of emotional expression. Powered by 2 warm and fuzzy single coils and one aggressive humbucker. Individual switches for all three Pick-ups. I believe it has a maple body with ebony fretboard...pearle inlays. The body was originaly Pearle white and has gold hardware wich has faded over the years (probably from using household cleaners. Has what I consider to be a well rounded neck. It's not thick like a fender but not thin like an Ibanez. Strat Styling of coarse. I have only seen one other impact 1 and it was a dark charcoal grey with black hardware. I got a little bored with it after about 10 years and gave it a facelift. Stripped it down to the wood and did a clear polyurethane finish which looks awsome with the gold hardware and black pick-ups. I personally LOVE the Khaler Locking Trem/bridge. I have had no problems with tuning. I actually prefer it to the popular Floyd Rose. It seems like the Floyd Rose Bridges take forever to tune due to floating, as one string tightens, the rest go limp.

Sound : 10
I once had an Ibanez (stx540???...it's been a while)and when I got strapped for money it was the first to go I will never give up my Impact. The sound is phenominal. It has the crunch when I bang out the metal stuff...has the heart and soul of warm blues...and is capable of clear crisp Jazz sound. It is very versitle. I am currently running it through a Korg AX100 multi effects processor into a 60watt Laney GC 60c amp and for more low end...I channel that into an old Peavey Basic 50 Bass amp. Sounds pretty cool to me. I do get a little noise using the humbucker as a single coil but I figure it is probably my half-ass amp setup. I think this guitar can embody a full range of tone and sound, from bright to bass or even both at the same time. The only dislike I have is the inability to pull off the cat purring trick that Steve Vai does by slapping the Vibrato. Easy to pull off with a Floyd Rose but I can sacrifice that one gimmic trick for a solid whammy.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
As far as I can remember the factory settings were cool but over the years I have fought and fought to get my action lower and lower. Right now this guitar allows me to set the strings extremely close to the frets with very little buzz (which is only there because I have the action set paper thin). Because this was my first real guitar I did alot of experimenting with screws and such that I wasn't sure what they would do. I learned some lessons the hard way and now I have it adjusted perfect for my playing style. Many people were amazed that peavey made such a great guitar after playing mine. The common phrase was "I thought they just made cheap beginer guitars". Then I would remind them that they were thinking of "Fender Guitars"...haha! Just kiding Fender fans...haha! No flaws ever to my knowlede.

Reliability/Durability : 10
If this guitar had a gun barrel on it I would march into afganistan right now and start sniping with it! It is way reliable. I got caught drinking when I was 15 and my mom grounded me and took my guitar and threw it down our hall-way twice. It ended up having two small cracks on both sides of the body right where the neck joins. When I got it back ( a month later) I did some adjusting and tuned it up...and it still rocks out today 15 years later! As for the finish..like I said earlier I stripped it down, but let me say it was a nightmare getting that paint off. After using at least 4-5 sheets of sandpaper I gave up and tried to use Zip-Strip paint remover. That didn't even want to take the finish off. It took me at least a week to get the pearle white off of the body.

Customer Support : 10
Never had a problem with any Peavey Products...top notch!

Overall Rating : 10
A+++ The only other guitar I would prefer over this is a Paul Reed Smith but unfortunately I am not rich yet. So the $4000 PRS will just have to collect some more dust until my winning lottery numbers come in. But a further note to all who may be interested in finding another one...check Ebay out. I just won an auction for another one. I haven't even gotten it yet. But I have seen them on there from time to time. Because this model is not very reknowned...people don't realy bid that high for it. I got mine for $177.50 + s/h. A great deal! Now I will have my custom and an original.

THis guitar literally makes me want to just drop my pants and sperminate all over my goddamn self. I misut say that when I first saw this piece of goddamn awesome fucking art work I wanted to find the neraest woman and have my way with her. It makes me want to...ughhh... goddamn it's the GOD of all fucking THINGS on Earth, not only guitars. The body is cool. So are the tuners, neck, and other stuff.

The people who crafted this fine piece of musical instrument are absolutely BRILLIANT! I would have all of their babies, or at least let them fuck me.

I have put this guitar in sub-zero weather, lit it on fire, shat all over it, made female baluga whales use it as a self pleasuring tool, then had Eskimos beat it with their little Eskimo weapons and it has not even gotten a scratch. It has also been through a number of natural disasters (ie) Hurrican Andrew, All volcanic explosions in the last 15 years, tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes, AND nuclear explosions.

The people of Peavey are the greatest people alive. I worship them every night before I goto sleep. And when I am asleep I dream about how goddamn nice those bastards are. I mean.... AHHH JESUS CHRIST, I love them.

I simply cannot find the words to describe the GODLINESS of this guitar. It has given me many fond memories and I think that every person in the universe should own one. If they do not, then they are missing out on the greatest thing in the fucking world. Those who do not like this guitar are pieces of shit. I think we should kill them all.. You goddamn bastards. Nobody likes you. POOP.I would rather die than part with mine. Sadly, however, I can only rate this guitar with a 10. If the numbers went higher I would give it a 500 or 600...TRILLION. It's cool.
