Hardtail bridge, old style Peavey logo hardware. Monster double rail pickups! Gold metal flake paint. Very nice 24 fret maple neck.

Sound : 8
This is a rock/metal guitar, that will probably never get played on stage because it looks so silly. It does however, play and sound good, so it will have a comfortable life in the studio.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Had to have a total set up done, but Ibought it used and it had been played a lot. Probably some little metal head screwed around with it, and pawned it.

Pickups are screamin'

Reliability/Durability : 9
Very well built.

Cool 80's metal shredder. They made a very ugly, but functional guitar. I took it to the shop in a gig bag, and got some interesting reactions when I opened it up, one referring to silver spandex pants.

ok, i bought this used at a guitar store without even trying it, i'll never paly another guitar again. It had the harcase with it. it is a red metalic finish and has all of peavey's cool little dities like the sharp p's one the knobies and tunning heads, you know, just little things that peavey doesn't so any more taht make a good bit of difference. It also has a tremolo bridge, but i dont use tremolos so i locked it as soon as i got it. It has two stock humbuckers with rail type magnets. the rails were small but more than deceptive. those humbuckers belt out a good bit of volume, ans i love its body design, which is why i bought it.

Sound : 10
the stock humbuckers are more than loud enough for most styles of music, but being a major metal head i have to have it louder so i'll be replacing the pickups soon. but i will say that i've had the thing for quite a while and they pickups have put out well ehough so far. the action, when set right, makes it perfect for squealing and fast soloing and the guitar itself, even with the tremolo, stays intune incrediblty well. the sound, after toggling witht he switches and knobies you can get anything from classic rock to old and new punk, to hard and soft rock to old and new metal. this is by far one of best rouinded guitars i've played in al ong time. its a shame that they don't make them anymore.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The finish on mine is a bright metallic red and my god does it shine! this guitar's finish was done very well, and obviously with expert care. the tuning pegs are perfect and keep it in tune very well and the entire thing was made of nothing but quality parts. this gutiar will last you a long time, even if you abuse it. i've been lashing out all sorts of rage and abuse on thing and it keeps coming back beging for more.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this is the most dependable guitar i've EVER palyed. and i've had a few fro ibanez, to fender, to B.C. rich to squire...don't waste your money, get a peavey. its going to be better and less expensive. i would play this guitar at a gig withot a back up and i guarantee you i would not have a problem. this guitar will last you a lifetime, i guarntee it.

i have been playing for a shade under a decade, and have gotten rid of every guitar i own that is not a peavey. They all frustrate me, but if i had to play something else, it would be a dean. if this guitar were stolen id hunt down the a-hole who stole ti and and beat him down with it. I love everything about this guitar nad hate nothing, but my favorite feature of this beast is its unique body design. if i were to compare this guitar to another i would insult it greatly. this is the best purchase i have ever made.

The model I have is the 1984 with a trem bridge. Would've liked the hardtail model since I never use the whammy bar but that's why they invented trem blocking. It has the tilt adjustment screw at the neck pocket, which might be of use to someone who knows more about guitar-smithery than I do.

Sound : 9
Hard to say, since I bought this used and it came pre-hot-rodded with EMGs. It sounds like the bomb, though, and I imagine it sounds pretty good even with the super ferrites, so I'll give it a 9.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The nut, as I've noticed on a few other Peaveys (notably the Raptor), seems to be glued in in a rather haphazard fashion, for which I had to take off a couple of points. That isn't to say it doesn't function alright, it just looks a little sloppy. Other than that, it far exceeded my expectations. The neck is fantastic, a nicely flamed one-piece maple job with a slick finish that lets you dart around quickly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The day I got this guitar, after I was done playing with it, I put it in the case and went to put it away. Unbeknownst to me, I had forgotten to lock the case and when I picked it up the axe fell out, tumbling towards the floor in slow motion as I cried "No!". It it the ground face down, and I thought that this thing would be messed up for sure. To my suprise, not only was there not a scratch on it, but it was still in tune (at least, as in tune as it had been before). I've since outfitted it with heavy gauge strings so I can really unload on it (I play rhythm so bascially all I do is hammer away on power chords) and this axe takes the worst beating I can deliver like it's nothing. Even the paint on this thing is tough. You can dent the body without chipping the paint.

Customer Support : 10
I went on the Peavey forums and gave them the serial number so they could tell me what model year this axe was. The same day, I had the answer, and this is the third time I've requested such info from Peavey and gotten such a prompt response.

Overall Rating : 10
A couple of months ago I played a new BC Rich Warlock (forget which series it was, but it had the Widow headstock so it wasn't a Bronze) and it sucked out loud stacked up against the Mystic. I'd even take it over a Gibson Explorer that I played last week. Perhaps it's a personal thing, but I've played very few guitars that I clicked with as well as this one. You can do subtle, nuanced playing and it handles that just fine (though I doubt anyone would buy this axe for that purpose), and for heavy rhythm slamming it is at least in the top three of all guitars I have ever handled. This is a twenty plus year old guitar that I just got, the previous owner clearly didn't coddle it, and it's still in great fighting shape. In fact, I'll be using this guitar at my band's first show this Saturday as my other one is in the shop getting fixed up. Let me put it like this: Peavey is perhaps the most underrated guitar manufacturer there is. Their guitars just have a unique character that you don't find in other brands (My first and only other guitar was a Predator AX that I loved enough to sink $300 into to get it customized. Don't laugh). Also, you can get their stuff dirt cheap if you know where to look. As for the Mystic, if you're reading this you already know that the body design alone will make you stand out from a crowd, but even apart from that it's a truly solid instrument. I bought this expecting a fairly low-rent axe that I'd use primarily for shock value, but I got a lot more. If you can find one of these things, don't hesititate to snatch it up.

This is a white Peavey Mystic made in the USA with one volume control and two tone controls. It has a three way selector switch and the pick ups are nameless probably fitted as standard. It looks insane, very eighties metal which is the reason it attracted me. I was naive and just thought 'well it looks cool and Van Halen plays a Peavey so it must be cool'. It has large frets to which is cool.

Sound : 9
The guitar has got a really 'high voice' and can be as nasty as it can brilliant. It's powerful in terms of its pick ups but in terms of a clean sound it sounds really tinny and clunky. Really its good for lead 'shreading' guitar but that's its only purpose for me

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought this guitar and i have no idea how many previous owners it had.... it was a bit hammered when i bought it lots of cracks etc. It's gone funny from the 12th fret down on the first string, its just a muted sound which is really crap and ill get that repaired tho i hope. Otherwise i stands for a lot of hammer and all the dials etc are solid.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I reckon this could be battered a few times on stage to this day but i would not dare its quite a cool guitar. It's never failed on me in terms of sound at all and i i honestly believe it will stay as srong for a while

Well it was cheap and for the same price you'd get a crappy squier so i'm very very content with my gorgeous thing. I compared it to a proper strat in the shop and to my ESP Viper at home and i rated itas highly as both of them, even an epiphone explorer i tried it beat that. The fact is it is one of the most eye catching guitars you'' ever see its like a 'flying tooth' or somethi

I bought this guitar off a buddy of mine in 1996 for about a hundred bucks. I loved this axe, it was perfect for the punk rock gutter tripe we were playing at the time. The pick-ups totally owned. I would have preferred a set bridge, but what can you expect for a C-note? (besides I don't even know if this monstrousity came without the tremolo config.) Best of all, the neck was nice and wide for my sausage like appendages...bonus baby!!!

Sound : 8
The "Shark," as it became known, due to its ludicrously metal-styled body, had plenty of cruch for the dead-ahead, Ramonesy rhythms, and plenty o'teeth for my moronic leads.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Mi amigo set the giutar up prior to my procurring it. The action was pretty friggin' good. The main flaw in the body was the hack job I performed on the top rear body protrusion. You see I couldn't find a case for it so I cut the motherscratcher off, and reattatched it with a hinge and hasp assembly, but when this reppeatedly broke, I just screwed a shelf-mount bottle opener i its place. Rock On!!! Twas fun having people opening up longnecks on my axe whilst I was playing. Audience participation rules!!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This eyesore was more than durable, withstanding 5 years of abusively rowdy shows, (oi! oi! oi!) until one day, in the midst of a Dead Boys number we were covering, I borke a string a tossed it aside, gingerly, I thought, and the body cracked in two. A fitting end for a misfit guitar. I miss this axe!!!

I have been playing approximately eight years, I have a tubeworks 1x12 combo, a takamine acoustic, a '67 harmony rocket, and an Aria Pro Dan Armstrong copy. I have actually been trying to get my hands on another one of these beauties.

Metal style guitar. Cool looking for heavy music. Black in color. Finish seems good

Good sound for metal.

Action is good.

I beat the SHIT out of this guitar for 10 years. It took it well. Right now the guitar itself is cracking at the joint where the neck meets the body. The neck has remained extremely sraight though. Noticable fret wear, but that is expected. The problem with the neck joint has pretty much retired this instrument though. No more sustain and cracking wood can be heard when played hard. NOTE I really beat this thing--I totally got out what I put into it.

Average H-H Guitar. 3 way selector, volume, tone, tone. Tremolo/ "Whammy" bar. Maple neck and fret board. Funky 80's body.

Sound : 4
I usually play the louder harder stuff like Sepultura, and Pantera. This guitar is well suited for that. I have trouble getting top end response when played clean. I've played this thing through a Crate stack, a Tube Works Micro stack(2x10), and a Gorilla GG20. It sound great on all of them with overdrive and distortion. Not clean. I gave it a 4 for lack of versatility.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
It's a Peavey. Need I say more?! It has minor signs of abuse from the previos owner. It needs a little fret work to fix intonation and fret buz problems. Hey...I bought it for the body...I'll live.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This Thing is solid. Kinda heavy too. Comparable to a Gibson Les Paul. Maybe a little heavier. can get uncomfortable, but all guitars can. Well ballanced and feels good. Not better than sex though.

Customer Support : 8
I never really delt with them. The little I have had too was easy. Good people.

Overall Rating : 7
To tell the truth I ain't no good at playin. But I can jam out the power chords! This guitar has taken every bit of abuse that I dish out(not much) I believe it's a good buy to those that like the style. not recomended for the feint of heart.

I own a Peavey Mystic, I'm not sure exactly when it was in production, but sometime in late 70's, early 80's. It has 23 frets, and has a 3-way selector switch like you'd find on a Gibson. It has one volume control and a tone control for each of the super ferrite rail humbuckers. If you turn the tone knob all the way to about 3 or 2, it splits the coils and sounds amazingly tele-like. If you turn the tone knob past 7 or 8, it sounds muddy and I don't suggest turning them that high. At the high end before it splits the coils, the humbuckers sound warm and round, and almost comparable to a Les Paul. I don't know much about the wood, tuners, or bridge style. The tuners are not balanced. 4 of them are okay, 1 is really loose, and 1 is way too tight. The whammy bar is really thick. The low E string buzzes against the frets once you get up above the 7th fret, but I use heavy strings. (Ernie Ball slinky) Lighter strings might resolve that problem. It has a really cool shape, like a BC Rich Warlock, but the curves are much more smooth. It's a bright shade of red, but not the silly looking kind of red that makes you wanna puke, you know, the stereotypical kinda red? I bought it used, so no accessories came with it. I paid $250 for it.

Sound : 8
I play many different styles of music. This guitar suits blues and alternative very well, because I can go all the way from jazz deep to a warm Les Paul kinda sound to a really thin, bright Tele sound with a turn of the tone knob. I play it with a Peavey Bravo 112 and use a Zoom 1010 sometimes. I dislike how muddy the tone gets at the very low end of the tone knob, though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
I bought it used, so there were a couple nicks and some scratches on the back, but it isn't really noticeable. The pickups are rock solid and staying in their place, mostly because each pickup has 8 screws to hold it down. Like I mentioned earlier, the low E buzzes against other frets when you start playing kinda high, and one tuning key is loose and another is really tight. The volume knob came loose once, but I got an Allan wrench and fixed it and haven't had any problems since. It plays very comfortably, and is the perfect guitar for playing some really fast leads.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is very, very durable. I've hit it against my wall and the paint came off but the guitar was not damaged. I have dropped it and everything, but the body doesn't get damaged. The funny thing is, you can make a little dent or impression in the body before the paint will chip. The finish is fairly thick. Other than the volume knob falling off once (it was loose when I bought it, but I fixed it and have no problems) it is rock solid and I could definitely use it as a sole guitar on stage. The pickups have never crapped out once, and I don't ever expect them to.

Customer Support : 1
I bought it used and I hate telling this, but I got it at a Pawn Shop, so I didn't expect any kind of warranty. This guitar is very durable and I don't really expect to need one.

Overall Rating : 8
I have played 2 and a half years and have an Epiphone S-310, a Squier P-Bass, an Epiphone Excellente, a little Epiphone tweed amp, a 15 watt Crate bass amp, a Peavey Bravo 112, and a Zoom 1010. Because of the variance in tone I can get with this guitar, it's really great to play the the Zoom 1010 digital effects processor. It's my first choice to use on stage (okay we're not gigging yet but my band is practicing to play at clubs) until I buy an Epiphone Les Paul. I like the easy to use coil tap and the great sound of the pickups but I really don't like how muddy the pickups can get at the very low end of its tone range. I kind of wish the coil tap had a switch instead of just turning the knob just far enough, but it can be more convenient at times. It was my first guitar, and I still love it. And I don't know what happened with the one the other guy got, but somebody had screwed the heck with it and messed it up pretty bad. There were no unexpected flaws I experienced after I bought it.
