Was built like a Tank. I'm not sure about the factory job, because this guitar was found VERY used in an old garage and given to me. It needs a fret job...BAD!! but it has it's own beat up unique sound.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've played this guitar for about 6 years, and it's never failed me...yet. The tone is more addictive than cocaine! I find myself coming back to this guitar constantly.

Just wanted to say that the user review just below this one states that the guitar body is made of Oak. In the owner's manual it clearly says the body is made of "thick select ash with grain filled to accentuate grain characteristics". I'm not saying the user review is incorrect, just that it may be that the early T-60's are made of Ash where the later T-60's are Oak. Mine was made before 5-21-79. It is the natural wood grain body, not the painted version. Serial number 00345705.The case is like a Samsonite suit case, but is a little tougher. The neck is made of Hard Rock Maple with a shiny clear finish. The wood grains really stand out and look great!

Sound : 10
Just like some of the other reviews mentioned, you can get just about any sound out of this axe that you want. You just need to know how to set the tone controls and which pickups to use, in combonation, to get the the sound your looking for. I've been playing it for 20 years and like it over most other electrics that I have tried.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I have never changed the set-up, it is still as set at the factory, and the action is still the best I have seen , even after 20 years of use. The only thing that is showing its age is the pick guard. It has some hair line cracks now.

Reliability/Durability : 10
No question about it this guitar is built like a horse. Never seen any problems in the 20 years that I have been playing it. I bought it new.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had the need to contact the company

I've been playing for 20 years and still can't play like Phil Keaggy. I wonder why ? If it were lost or stolen I would be heart broke, I don't think I could find one in mint condition , like mine. I would however, buy another one. There is nothing about this guitar that I don't like. Anyone would fall in love with it from the first time you played one. It stays in tune. I've heard that many other more expensive guitars do not. I seldom need to tune it and I play it at least three times a week. I feel this guitar is way under priced. I can't believe people are finding them for $275 and less on the web.

I bought three in excellent condition. First at $147, second at $168, third at $235. They are identical, except the first one had its original HSC included. Reviewers say the guitar is made of ash, which is not correct. Everyone I've bought is made of very cheap oak. The differences are simple. Oak breaks your back, ash doesn't; oak dissipates sound and turns it muddy, ash doesn't; oak is cheap and plentiful (I burn 3 cord of it per year), ash is not. So if you want a VERY HEAVY guitar, with a big body and a somewhat muddy Les Paul sound, here ya go! My rating is based on value for the price, but tempered a bit because the setup is too complex to change quickly from one sound to the next.

Sound : 6
Great variety of sound, but again, don't expect the clear ringing sound of a $3,000 LP for under three hundred bucks. This guitar certainly is the one to own over any Fender Standard strat or tele. And the little devil is going rapidly up in price, while those things are heading south.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Finish is poor on the body, but great on the neck. Fit at the neck to body joint is pretty bad, but fretting and overall alignment of all else doesn't suffer at all. And, unlike many off-the-shelf models, this guitar can be set up for action from very high to extremely low (set it high to beat the hell out of it, no buzz at all).

Reliability/Durability : 7
This thing is an absolute solid rock. It should last another 20 - 30 years needing nothing, unless some dope strings it with heavy guage strings and kills the tele-style neck.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Unknown to me, as I buy most everything used and hunt and peck for my own parts and stuff.

Overall Rating : 8
I bought three because I know a deal when I see one. Deals don't last forever. If you can find one for under $250, pick it up. Otherwise, wait for a kid to sell one to buy a "real strat".

Somewhat unique construction; kind of like an SG, but with a nice
thin neck that has medium frets. Every other neck I touch feels like
a bowling pin. Quite heavy solid ash, you can really feel it resonate
when you play it. Strings through body hardtail bridge (who needs
a tremelo anyways?). Wiring is very cool; turning the tone knobs past
7 engages a coil split in the corresponding pickup. I never got to play it with the stock pickups. Mine has a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck in the bridge and some sort of Gibson in the neck. It came with a nice tough plastic (think rubbermade) hard shell case.

Sound : 10
This guitar can makes some sounds which I've never heard any other make. I use it with a Real Tube overdrive pedal and a Small Clone chorus sometimes into a Crate G60 solid state amp. It can go from screeching highs (probably more to do with my bridge pickup) to really punchy bright (its good at this) to really forceful stomping distortion. For me, it barks more than it growls, which I suspect has a lot to do with my pickups. It can do very pretty clean acoustic sounding stuff too. It really has a wonderful range of sounds.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action is very nice. I've only felt better on well set up Les Pauls. The hardware is all very high quality. The finish is a fairly good sunburst. It seems much more durable than your average finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
When I got mine it was somewhat (ab)used. Finish was beginning to crack a little around the neck, which was surprising to me since it looked like you would have to leave it out in the rain and sun for days to get it to do that. Also, the pots are a bit sticky if I leave it sitting around for too long (which is a crime anyways) and the pickguard is kind of warped. But, for a fairly aged guitar (has to be at least 20 years old I guess) which looks to have been somewhat abused, it is still good looking and a joy to play. I plan on refurbishing it a bit...it deserves it after 20 years.

Customer Support : 10
I haven't dealt with Peavey directly, but they have a very nice website where I was able to get a manual for the guitar. Its an excellent manual, complete with wiring schematic and instructions for all sorts of maintenance / adjustment.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing seriously for about a year now. This is my first real guitar. I am a very fortunate man to have bought it. I got an excellent guitar for a very low price. It competes with just about any guitar I pick up, and has some unique sounds which are really its own. I don't forsee myself parting with it, ever. If it were lost or stolen, I would find another one in nicer condition.

1979 USA made, H/H Pickups. 3-way P/U switch. Phase switch. Tone knobs control coil split. Hard-tail. Multi-ply body. Enough data here from other posts . . .

Sound : 9
The sound of this guitar is more than adequate for virtually any style of music. It's not a "whammy bar" set up, so metal "virtuosos" might not be fully fulfilled, but other than that it smokes! Great for Jazz, Blues (the late Johnny Copeland used one,) Rock & of course Country.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is superb and easy to set up yourself with Peavey's documentation available from their web site www.peavey.com; they also include instructions to set the intonation.

Reliability/Durability : 10
What can I say, it's a rock. Mine is 21 years old and even though it took a major beating from the previous owner, it bounced back really well when I restored it. Still a fantastic buy. Every guitarist should own at least one.

Customer Support : 10
The best. Peavey excells in this area, much better than any other company I have dealt with. They even have a message board that is monitored and updated by their support staff (Way to go A.J.!!) It can be found at http://support.peavey.com/~guitars/

I would rate this an 11, but the ratings only go up to 10.

Overall Rating : 10
I found this guitar in a pawn shop and it had been BADLY mistreated by it's previous owner. He/she?? had covered it with white oil based house paint, and then attached the parts before the paint had time to cure (yuck!) the pickup did not work and the phase switch was broken.

I have so far, refinished it . . . It's unique because it was originally a painted model and I refinished it clear. so you can see the "cutting board" pattern if you look closely. I fixed the electronics and replaced the phase switch. I was able to get a schematic from one of the posters at the Peavey support message board (thanks, Chevy!) The previous owner had even "shielded" the control cavity with TIN FOIL!! Unreal!

Anyway, suffice it to say that the guitar resurrected wonderfully. It is a jammin axe with butter smooth action. I purchased a GK 250ML recently and the T-60 sounds phenomonal through it.

I would definitely replace it if stolen and I plan to buy at least 2 or 3 more. I'm even going to get my 5 year old a T-15 to learn on.

I have been playing for 25 years, all styles of music and currently play Christian Rock/Jazz. This guitar is more than you would need for just about any gig.

This is IMHO the best value in a guitar available on the market today. they go for between $100-$300 on eBay all of the time.

T-60s Rock!!

I bought my Peavey T-60 about 10 yrs ago in a pawn shop. I was'nt really looking for a guitar at the time...but i saw it and thought I'd take a chance. Its one of the best investments I've ever made. I have a Les Paul Studio which is very nice, and and old Guild Starfire IV in great condition...but when I get together with the guys to jam...probably 8 out of 10 times, I pick up the T-60. It plays and sounds great!! It takes awhile to get the sound you want (so many knobs and switches) but once you get a handle on it...WOW.

Sound : 10
You can get almost any sound you want out of this guitar. I play through a Peavey Heritage 130w amp at home (too big to carry around) and a Fender Sidekick 25 when I go out. Sounds great. Neck is maple, with 21 frets...perfect for getting around on fast. The only thing Im not too hot on, is the weight...hurts the shoulder after awhile...but its nothing compared to the weight of the Les Paul.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The T-60's action is very good. It stays in tune better than any guitar I've ever owned. If you buy one....you won't be sorry.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Ive heard alot of people talk about the "natural" finish or "sunburst finish on their T-60's Mine is all white...I havent seen another like it. Its very solid.

Customer Support : 10
I called Peavey and gave them the serial # of my T-60 to find out when it was made. They said their records back then werent too great, and the best they could tell me was it was made in the early 80s.

Solid tuners, (original, and they hold a tune for something like 10ish hrs. of play) Sweet looking finish. (Natural Ash) Great flexibility. Between the 3-way switch and the tone pot feature that switches between single coils and humbuckers you can get just about any sound - esp. when you throw in a phase switch.
Some will complain about the lack of a whammy/vibrato. STOP BEING LAZY AND USE YOUR LEFT HAND TO GET VIBRATO!! If you're trying to do a "metal dive" then you don't deserve to play guitar anyway. Has two humbuckers, but can independently be switched to single coils. (as already noted) The neck on this sucker is my biggest gripe. I have big hands, and the neck is really stinking thin. My wrist is taking it HARD! If I was motivated enough to do something crazy like install a different neck, (although I'll miss the sweet WIDE frets and tuners, as well as sweet early peavey-logo headstock) I would never shop for another guitar - except another T-60.
I almost forgot. The guy that said this thing looks like a strat's "fat hillbilly cousin" nailed it on the head. Except imagine this fat hillbilly still dresses like it's 1982.

Sound : 10
Play punk through a Fender Frontman 25r currently, but have used other amps - universally sounds way better than a $225 guitar made around the same time as me. I can make it sound like a tele and I can make it sound like a les, and everything in between. Just takes some work. And READ THE DOWNLOADABLE INSTRUCTION MANUAL AT PEAVEY'S WEBSITE!! You will miss TONS by not reading it, eg. the way the p/u's are wired. This guitar can sound rich, and can sound bright (tinker w/ the knobs and the amp - the axe has it, you just gotta find it...believe me)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Everything seems pretty solid on my guitar. A few rust spots here and there, but this is virtually a mueseum piece. Over my dead body it'll go to a mueseum though... The Ash finish is slick, at least I think so. Reminds me of an old woodgrain long surfboard. Convenient b/c it's a great surf guitar, too. I really can't find much wrong that is the company's fault. The action seems great, but that prolly has little to do w/ the factory by now. This thing doesn't even have a trace of belt-buckling for chrissake.

Reliability/Durability : 10
HA! This is the stuff legends are made of. Finish looks showroom after AT LEAST three owners. I've heard of the switches snapping off, but that's from other punks, and we tend to abuse our instruments, intentionally or otherwise. But I think it'd be worthwhile to overlook that - come on, you know someone who can rewire a new 3 or 2 way switch - assuming you can't figure it out.
I would gig w/o a backup since I don't break strings. Makes it through a ROUGH set without even tuning.
I did put schaller straplocks on it immediately after I got it. But that's just my preference. the stock ones were fine.

Customer Support : 9
Haven't really dealt with them. Everything that I see possibly going wrong wouldn't really need too much expertise though. Maybe adjusting the saddle a little, replacing the switches(?). Reputation for solid service, though. It was very nice to get ahold of an adobe acrobat copy of the original owner's manual via their website, which is awesome.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for about 2 years, 1 1/2 intensively. I own a Fender DG8 acoustic starter kit, otherwise, that's about it. (go ahead and laugh, it's nice not having to worry about breaking it)
If this was lost, I'd buy one again, unless I won the lottery. Then I would go find one in mint condition with the tobacco burst, then I'd buy the ash one again. The one feature that I'd modify (personal issue) is that I have huge hands. This neck is NARROW!! We're talking Kate Moss 1997... The overall feel (despite the shape) is playing a strat neck on a les paul or SG scale.
I was looking for a "starter guitar" that didn't suck. Danos sounded too wimpy, and everything else was a strat copy and/or sounded REALLY REALLY BAD, with the possible exception of a couple Jacksons. But Cletus (my t-60's name) is 30x more versatile than anything in it's price range, and sounds better to boot. Plus it's just cool looking. This is the best $200 I've ever spent.

It's got and ash body. Natural finish, Maple neck, maple frteboard. 2 humbuckers. Natural finish. 2 volume nobs, 2 tone nobs. 3 way pickup selector, a phase switch and a fixed bridge. Coil tapping technology. That means if u put the tone knobs past 7 it becomes single coil. Made in U.S.A. I give it 9 because a tremlo would be nice.

Sound : 10
Sounds great. Really good for classic rock, which is what I like to play most. Very bright, lively tone. No complaints here.

This guitar is about 20 years old and its still perfect. A few dings and scratches but they are hard to see with a natural ash finish. The action is great. No buzz.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Like I said. It is 20 years old and still looks and plays great. There is nothing wrong with this guitar. Im sure it will last another 20. I would definetly use this for a gig without a backup.

Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Sounds great. Plays great. It's a cool looking guitar too. If a strat and a lespaul had a baby. This would be it. The neck and the front of the body is like a strat. And the back of it comes out wider and rounder like a les paul. The electronics are also very similar to a lespaul. I love this guitar. And i only paid $115 for it. Best deal I ever made. If you see one. Go get it! Now!
