This instrument was American made either in the late 1970's or early 1980's judging by its six digit serial number. The body is one piece of heavy solid wood with some nice grains. The neck is maple with medium frets. It has two humbucker pickups that some have referred to as toaster types because that's what they resemble. There is a separate volume and tone control with each pickup, a three way selector and a phase switch that puts the bridge pickup out of phase. The tone control lets you control whether the pickup is a single coil or humbucker by turning. The finish is natural with polyurethane. It came with a factory flight case.

Sound : 10
This guitar for its age was ahead of its time. The sound is very versatile with single coil, humbucker, out of phase, etc. It has a heavy crunch metal capability that some of my more expensive instruments cannot achieve. The capability of this axe is way underestimated. It is a quality product that can go with the best of them(I have played them all!). Quiet pickups. It can play rock, country, folk, etc.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Cannot detect any flaws. It is setup well by the music store that sold it to me, via the internet. The switches are military grade, so can take lots of use. It has a bolt on neck with a good tight fit.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It looks relatively new for its age. Never gig without a backup, but it is a worthy stage instrument. Built very well and looks like it can withstand abuse.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them. Peavey maintains a site that I was able to get the operating manual for the guitar by downloading the data. Superior Music's manager was very helpful and gave me an honest description and set up the instrument well.

Overall Rating : 10
I reach for this guitar more and more over a stable of semi and solid bodies of high quality. It is easy to play, and has a unique variety of sounds. I got rid of a U2 Danelectro reissue for this. The Peavey is NO Contest against the Dano. I chuckled the other night when I was playing it and our drummer looked over at me when I was playing Purple Haze. His eyes were bulging out at the sound!!!! Afterwards he said, that the Peavey achieved distorted non mushy sounds that very high grade guitars I have can't. I have been playing for a long time and I don't give praise easily. The T60 is a very well designed, working man's affordable guitar that suits young to old styles. It is a low cost gem in a sea of modern and vintage high costing and not as good sounding guitars. I look for guitars all the time in stores and internet. This investment makes me very satisfied.

I bought this guitar brand new in 1978 or '79 after searching for a Strat or something similar and finding nothing in truly good shape that I could afford. I had read Peavey's ads about the solid cast hardware, laser-aligned construction, flight case included in price, etc., and decided to check out the T-60. It's got a solid ash body; maple neck/fingerboard; 21 low, wide frets; enclosed tuners; individual adjustable bridge saddles; two Peavey "toaster" humbuckers with coil taps (run as single-coils when the tone knobs are on 10); three-way selector and a separate phase switch. The neck is an excellent shape, very elegant, but almost too shallow for someone with big hands. All the hardware is VERY solid and exudes high quality. This is a big-league guitar.

Sound : 9
I play rock in a range of styles, and I'm still finding new sounds in this guitar. I've played it through several amps, from an old Ampeg to a Peavey TransTube, and I've found it's very important to play with the tone controls to get the right sound for each amp. My usual style -- "everything on 10" -- does not work with this guitar, unless you like high, thin twang that sounds like crap when distorted. Back off on those tone knobs, though, and you can feel the warmth as the second coil on each pickup kicks in. Meanwhile, playing clean with the tone on 10 gives you a nice selection of snappy chicken-pickin sounds. I often play through various compbinations of a DOD digital delay, Small Stone phase shifter, Boss CS3 compressor, Arion chorus and Boss DS1 distortion. The Peavey is a perfect guitar for hearing exactly what each effect is doing, because its signal is so damn clean it's almost sick.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar is a beautiful piece of manufacturing. It screams quality. The only problem I've ever had was poor intonation -- which is a setup issue, not a manufacturing one. It's now set up right and it sounds great. The fit, finish and action are a guitar player's dream come true.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The T-60 is very solid -- and fairly heavy, too, though I don't find it as heavy as a Les Paul. I've been playing it regularly for more than 20 years and it still looks like new. The case it came with is very raodworthy and protects the guitar from most injuries. Although I usually have a second guitar at gigs, it's not meant as a backup, and I wouldn't hesitate to use the T-60 with no backup if the gig didn't call for any acoustic or hollow-body numbers.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with Peavey. The company has an impeccable reputation and a great website, though.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for about 30 years. I bought this guitar out of necessity -- I was in a band and this was the very best guitar I could find for the money. There was no other "real" (i.e. not a knockoff of a Fender or Gibson) new guitar on the market I could afford, and very few used ones. If I ever lost it, I'd have a hard time replacing it -- every other T-60 I've seen really looks its age and has been treated with less that tender loving care. The only downside to this guitar, at least for the first 19 years I owned it, was its shape -- it looks like a Strat's overweight country cousin, and the natural woodgrain finish, beautiful as it is, adds to this impression. But in the past few months, I've had more and more people saying "What a cool guitar! What is it?" So it's finally reaching funky vintage status -- but then, so am I!

This is a USA made T-60 that my dad bought for me (used) when I was 13. That was almost 20 years ago. Since then, I have owned many, many axes, and this is still one of my main guitars. I has the natural finish with some awesome grains and tone, and a sweet hard rock maple neck. A one piece peavey string through body bridge, nice peavey machine heads, and other peavey goodies make up the hardware. Although I had long since changed out the pickups, the original peavey pickup were great. They were just ugly, toaster looking things. Functionally, the stock pickups had the widest scope of sounds I have ever heard from a single guitar. Even by today's standard, the feature set is packed full.

Sound : 10
As mentioned above, the T-60 gets a huge variety of sounds from the standard config. I run it through either a Fender Tweed combo, or an Ampeg Reverb-Rocket 50 watt head into a 4x12 cabinet. I plug straight in a use the natural tube overdrive for my hard edged rock sounds. This axe really screams. Some years ago, for totally aesthetic reasons, I replaced the pickguard with a custom made one that was smaller, so I could reveal more of the sweet wood tones that were hiding under the pickguard, and in the process changed out the stock pickups for Carvin Frank Zappa Humbuckers. This setup with the stock electronics config (coil taps, pots, etc) allowed me to increase the FAT-ness of the sound when needed, but still keep all the other tones I had before.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This T-60 is a fine example of a Made in USA axe, crafted with fine woods and great components. Fit and finish are excellent. The neck is hard rock maple. I is fairly flat and wide across the playing surface of the fret board, but it is slim measuring from the front of the fretboard to the back of the neck . It make for a very fast playing neck, with an easy, buttery action. I have yet to find another guitar with a similar feel.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have been gigging with this guitar, as either my main axe, or as a second guitar, for almost 20 years. I have used it on gigs without backup many time. I have never had a problem with it, ever. The fit and finish have held up well and it still looks new.

Customer Support : 10
Since this axe is of such quality, I have never needed support. But peavey has a great web site, with lots of interesting info, so I would guess support would be great if needed...

Overall Rating : 10
This axe is a quality piece that can run with the best Gibsons and Fenders. I have owned many of each, and the T-60 is every bit of a high end instrument as they are. My other main axe is a USA Strat that I also love, but the T-60 is definitely more solid and built much tougher. I would buy a second one if I came across the right deal. And if it were stolen, I would get another one right away. With the current used market selling these awesome quality guitars for around $200 used, I believe the T-60 is the best value for your dollar today.

This is a USA made T-60 with 21 frets, all Peavey electronics/tuners/hardware, and a ton of controls. Both humbucking pickups run on 2 different circuits, and each has 1 volume and 1 tone control. There is a phasing switch for the bridge pickup, and a 3 way p/u selector. It has a sorta strat style body, but beefier, a lot heavier, and gorgeous to look at. It has a string through body hardtail bridge, and wide low crown frets. It came with a huge Peavey molded case.

Sound : 8
I play a lot of punk and ska with my band, but play some jazz and rockabilly on my own. I run it through a Peavey Bandit 112, through a ProCo Rat. This has to be one of the most versatile guitars that I have played. With so many knobs, and so many combinations, you are sure to find the tone you want. My favorite part is that the pickups are single coils if their respecting tone knobs are set above 7. At 7 or below, they turn into humbuckers. It is very noisy with distortion if you don't know what you're doing, but it sounds great after you know how to use it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this used from a fellow off of Ebay. Everything was set up nicely, and I had no problems plugging in and playing right out of the case. The finish on the guitar is dangerous! It is a polyurethane weatherproof finish that might as well be bulletproof. This guitar has survived through serious mistreatment for 19 years, and it only has some small scratches and a dab of rust to show for it. The weight of this guitar is a lot, but not more thatna Les Paul. If you are thinking of getting a Les Paul, as I was, save your money, and buy one of these. You'll end up being happier if you don't care about what's on the headstock. My only complaints are the weight and the lack of balance. At first, you feel lke you're gonna drop it due to the weight in the body, and lack thereof in the neck.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar would survive several wars, bombings, and drops to the floor, without falling out of tune. Everything is solid as solid gets, and I would definitely use it live without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with Peavey, but their website/forums show how dedicated they are to their customers and how much they care about making their products worth the money.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 6 years. I own a Fender Jaguar, a Jackson Dinky Reverse, and a Peavey Bandit amp. I have been satisfied with this axe since the day I got it. I doubt it would be stolen because the criminal would throw his back out trying to lift it. I would buy another if it were stolen. The sound, the versatility, the action, and the neck are all things I love. I dislike the balance (takes a while to get used to it), the weight, and it's battle scars. I compared it to a Les Paul, but I wanted this because it was much cheaper, and much more versatile. For a few hundered bones, this is no guitar to pass up. Buy one if you see it!!

I have a late 70's model. i think they stopped making this thing in the early 80s, not completely sure though.
Has two passive humbuckers -- independent volume/tone controls for each via switch. Another switch takes the sound in and out of phase for a sort of neat effect.
Body style is unique. Search for t-60 on ebay or something for a picture. I am not sure on woods.

Sound : 10
Suits my musical style great--that is, alternative to acoustic. Has an AWESOME clean sound the humbuckers are excellent overdriven. It has a very rich/full sound. no noise to speak of.
This guitar IS the guitar to buy if you want to spend less than $250. Its sound is much more expensive than that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action is very low, which I like. Everything was adjusted perfectly when I bought it used about half a year ago.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar has a waterproof finish. I don't usually say things this cheesy, but it is basically a tank. I did however, have the phase switch break and the 1/4" jack became screwed up. Both were replaced for under $15. Not too shabby for being 20 years old.
Solid guitar.

If you like Gibson, you will right at home. SG-style controls: 3-way pickup selector, lead/rythm swtich, tone and volume for each pickup. Two blade humbuckers, maple neck(I think), couldn't say on the body. Finnish is superb. 22 frets, jumbo. Stop tail. Peavy tuners. Awesome hard case. The body is wierd. It is mostly Gibson, but the front is Fender double cutaway. It is real nice. Made in USA. No clue when it was made, I got it used but it mint condition. Neck is bolt on, but unlike the fender, the neck profile at the joint is very unobtrusive.

Sound : 10
I play mostly punk, but this guitar can mimic an accoustic nicely and it goes the other way with excelent metal sounds. If you can't play your style on this, you are not trying hard enough. I am serious. Name the sound: this can do it. I have yet to want in this department,.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action was what sold me. Gibson spread, but FAST. all the setup was perfect. Hardware is all Peavy and it is solid. Stays clean, always works. Switches are silent. Knobs are a little loose, but not bad. Finnish is BULLETPROOF.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Is it reliable? Never failed. I have giged with it so many times...no problems. It is SOLID. I have no backup...as if I needed it!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to talk to them.

This is my only electric. I really don't need another. It is as unique as it is versitile. I will never get rid of it. The only thing to watch for: If you are not accustomed to heavy weights, you are in for a nasty suprise. I don't care how much it weighs, though. If you see one, get it.

The features in this guitar are the main reason I went looking for it. The (standard) pickups are peavey blade humbuckers which her a very clean mid/bass heavy sound, but what really makes them shin is the way the elecronics are setup. The tone knobs and volume pots are like those on a Les Paul but whe you turn the tone knob past seven it taps the respective humbucker, giving you many different tonal variations. with that they also added a phase switch that works in the middle pickup position which gets a nice 2/4 type strat sound. The neck is maple and easy to dig in on. When I bought The T-60 i also got the molded hardshell case that came with it, it is a very very sturdy case.

Sound : 7
The sound of the T-60 is it's main atribute, but it also has a few flaws that aren't major but still there. It is a butiful clean guitar, almost capable of any sound imaginable, and it is one of the crunchiest hard core grinding distorted guitars I've ever played. The main flaw here is that unless you have a incredible noise gate, the guitar will feedback like mad, it's one of the noisiest guitars there is, in terms of feedback, but with a gate it's almost perfest for any situation.
I use 11's on it tuned to A# and it keeps tune very well. The sound through heavy distortion us really heavy and fat, and especially clear at this low tuning. The T-60 fits the heavy fat sound that my band goes for.
overall the sound is incredibly good for a guitar that you can pick up for the cost of a beginner guitar, but it's best to have a noise gate around to get the best out of it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
This T-60 is a late 70's model in natural ash, it's ok but kinda ragged looking, but I like that. It has a Black/white/black Pickguard and chrome controlls and tuning knobs. All the knobs and tuning knobs have the old Peavey "P" on them, this is a cool touch.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The main thing to note here is, THIS GUITAR IS HEAVY! it is much heavier that a les paul studio, make sure to get a sturdy strap, or strap locks if you play hard. It is built like a tank tho and can handle being dropped (i've done this many many times and usually it keeps tuning too. The only strap related problem I've had when playing live is having a strap break because of the weight, but with a good strap this shouldn't be a problem.

Customer Support : 8
Peavy is good a customer support, i went to their newsgroup and requested the T-60 manual and schematics and they delivered them to me a few days later.

Overall Rating : 8
I just have to say that this guitar is probably my favorite that I own it's just hard to put down, and it's so versitle. I would recommend them but i would like to own more for myself, they are fun fun guitars to play.

It is the Standard Natural finish...I like this Guitar...I find it highly underated...so much in fact that I have two. One with maple neck and one with Rosewood both are in mint condition but I wish I still had my first one ..it had a serial number of 0000......sold it in the early 80's in Rhode Island. The guitars sound and play great great sustain ..lots of different sounds...roll of on the tone knob and go from single coil sound to humbucker. Stays in tune, and sustain is excellent. You still can find these reasonable but I don't know for how much longer. Thanks Hartley this is a winner!

Sound : 9
I play this thru a tweed Peavey Classic and a Tweed Delta Blues and it sounds great. There is nothing I don't like about this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It is amazing that these days you can find a guitar this well made for so little money....don't start a stampede on these. The strings can be set up low and the neck is very fast. Fit and finish is top notch . These are both early 80's models and the metal has held up fine.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I wouldn't use use this guitar without a back-up only because I never use just one guitar . If the beer bottles start flying this axe has some beef to ward off the rowdies.

Customer Support : 9
Haven't realy dealt with Peavey but have used their gear for almost 20 yrs and hope I use it for another 20. This goes for all their stuff ...and no I don't work for Peavey. Anyone who saves me a ton of bucks deserves an ata-boy.

Overall Rating : 9
Have been playing about 36 yrs..am approaching old fart status...make that rockin -old-fart. If stolen I'd buy another but hey why steal one if they are cheap enough to buy. I compare this to a Strat..it is probably the reason I've yet to own a strat....I have a number of guitars and the T-60's see their share of use. It might be interesting to see one with a vibrato...say a wilkinson or something like it.

Solid Maple body with satin finish, (all I have seen have a good wood grain), 3 way selector, dual humbuckers, non locking tuners, 25 fret neck, good hardcase, active electronics, phase switch, fixed bridge, volume and tone control, made in the USA

Sound : 9
The Peavey T-60 will suit nearly any style. With the right amp it can be a very versatile guitar. The dual humbuckers can give warm acoustic tones or crushing rock sounds. The three way selector can turn on the neck humbucker for lead playing or the bridge pickup for playing rythym, or both for a deep warm tone. The phase switch also adds more abilities to manipulate sound. The heavy body has wonderful sustain.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The T-60 was cut by robot at the Peavey factory and put together by hand. All are very solid. The pickups and electronics are setup very good.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is a very solid and fairly inexpensive guitar. It is a wonderful first guitar and a good second. This guitar was meant to be a competitor to the Les Paul when Peavey brought it out in the late 70s and continue production through the early 80s. It is a very reliable and extremely strong solid feeling guitar. And it looks very good and unique in a world dominated by Les Pauls and Strats.

Customer Support : 8
Peavey will send anyone a manual over the internet for any of their products, they seem to have very good customer support.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for nearly two years (and not slacking off any) and I have played many guitars. The Peavey is a very good guitar for people with a fixed budget. It is a unique good sounding guitar. It is the type that if you did buy a nicer guitar you wouldn't want to get rid of the T-60. I got the matched-fit case with mine which is very nice also.
