#0058 made in 1997. Rosewood fretboard, medium jumbo frets neck with shallow profile. Desert Tan with "Tortoise" pickguard. Strat/strat/rail humbucker p/upconfiguration with 5 way switching and coil tap. Wacky top loading bridge that looks very fragile but has lasted 8 years and looks like new. Very flexible set up.

Sound : 9
Very cool Strat sounds from med/high output Kent Armstrong p/ups. The Reverend has its own vibe - the sound is not as crystalline as a Strat, it's more airy and open. The higher output p/ups are really nice for blues (my thing) but seem like they'd suit any type of music well. The dual rail humbucker doesn't have much more output that the single coil p/ups but blends well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Reverend has consistently been the best made, non-custom shop guiatrs since Joe started the business.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've owned 4 and not had any problems other than a switch and a pot dying.

This is a brand new, "custom-made" Avenger GT, with yellow "satin-finish" laminate body, 22 frets and maple fretboard. One volume and one tone control knob. It has 2 single-coil "Strat"-style pickups and one Kent Armstrong twin-rail humbucker in the bridge position, with a coil tap: (S/S/H). With the five-way pickup switch, this makes for a total of 7 different settings. It also has Sperzel locking tuners, graphite nut, string-thru body, and graphite saddles. I ordered it with a very neat looking hard case (black and white, very 50s and 'retro'-looking.

Sound : 10
I play blues and some r-n'-b, and this guitar perfectly suits my style. I uses it with a Reverend Hellhound combo amp, as well as the new Reverend Drivetrain overdrive (which I just received yesterday). The pickups are wonderful--much better than the stock pickups on, say, a Fender American Standard Strat (which is what I used to play). They have richness of tone and a 'chimeyness' that are hard to describe, but absolutely breathtaking, playing both rhythm and lead. The sound is full and, with the pickup configuration the sheer variety of tones is amazing. The Kent Armstrong humbucker has--as you might expect--a lot of guts and is great for 'heavier' riffs. With the split coil, the output is slightly less and definitely not as loud, but really nails that sharp 'Tele"-style twang. As might be expected, the single-coil settings (1-3-5)tend to be a bit noisier than 2 and 4, but this is more than made up for by the wonderful tone. The guitar has wonderful sustain, as well. All in all, just a great all-around guitar, sound-wise.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was flawless in every 'production' aspect: string guage and action was set precisely to my request, and the pickup adjustment was equally flawless. All bracings, bridge, fret wire, saddle, etc. were (and are) perfect. The body is likewise perfect. The frets are somewhat smaller than I'd expected, but I've gotten used to them very quickly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've only been playing this guitar for about 3 weeks, so I cannot speak with any sort of authority regarding its durability, but, from all indications, this is a solid, solid guitar, that seems like it will last and take a great deal of punishment. Needless to say, you need to take some care with it, since it is a semi-hollow body guitar (not just single solid peice of wood), but this just might be the price you pay for the kind of warmth, richness of tone and sustain that this guitar can achieve. Once again, it is extremely solidly constructed, so I (personally) have very little doubt about its overall durability.

Customer Support : 10
All of my dealings with Reverend, over the last several months, have been aboslutely top-notch. In terms of customer support, I don't see how they could possibly do better: they have been friendly, patient, open and repsonsive to all of my (pretty tedious and ignorant) questions. They are also extremely efficient and quick in responding to calls and e-mails. Perfect in this dept.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for over almost 35 yrs. I also own a Fender Tele Thinline, equipped with a humbucker pickup. Having now played this guitar for about 3 weeks, I can honestly say that it, without a doubt, the most comfortable and best-sounding electric guitar I have ever owned (and probably ever played). I love it. The neck is like butter, its so smooth and easy, and the guitar, as a whole, enables me to make the kind of sounds I've always dreamed of making. As a group, guitarists are always in search of "that" sound--the one they've been looking for all of their (musical) lives. I feel that, with this guitar, my search has ended. If it were stolen or lost, I'd replace it in a flash. I love its feel, its look and its sound. In short, its sound and its feel are somewhere between a Strat and a Tele, but it sounds like the guitar that those other two are cracked up to be. It's, as they say, the real deal. What more can I say?

Avenger GT ser. # 00099. Made in Eastpointe, MI (1997) Originally an aged white body with tortise shell pick guard..now sky blue body. The pick ups are a splitable HB, bridge - and single coils in middle/neck. Maple neck/fretboard. One volume, one tone, 5 position p/u selector. schecter strap locks. Available tones span strat/tele SG territory with a slight mid boost. It has it's own original look and sound.

Sound : 10
I play metal, industrial, hard rock, classic rock, blues & jazz. This guitar handles all of them flawlessly. Reverend advised a change to one of my tone pots as an tone upgrade...but I'm not gonna touch it. This guitar has it's own sound and I'm not changing ANYTHING. I use it with two Hellhound 40/60 1/2 stacks. The guitar is silent (take note) I haven't cleaned the electronics ONCE since I got it in 1997. Additionally, I've never had a pot or jack come loose thus far. To say I LIKE this guitar is a genuine understatement. It has been with me everyday, around the world, tour after tour, for 5 years!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I picked the guitar up direct from Joe @ Reverend. It was set up to my specific tuning needs, with my custom string guages. I never had to adjust it. I DID have to replace the body. Honestly, because of some pretty serious abuse. I've let go of it several times, and actually threw it (line drive style) at the drummer more then once. I know, I know...I've grown up some since then. The action and feel of the neck is very Fenderish, which is what I like. The Finish is cool because it never gets finger prints. Accept for when I loaned it to Violent J (ICP) in Chicago and he got his damn clown make up stained on the white sides. Just another mark of character for the guitar. The top and the back wipe clean of nearly anything they come into contact with!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is my first Reverend guitar. I use this guitar as a benchmark for how I expect the rest to hold up. I have subsequently purchased 9 additional Reverends. They have all been great. I like some better then others..and my mind changes all the time about my favorites. There is one VERY important thing that they have in common. They are consistant! The quality is great..they keep intonation VERY WELL. They FEEL good. This one (in particular) is special because it is my first...and it still continues to rock with no questions asked! I expect it to be on this planet longer then I will.

Customer Support : 10
Not sure if I even NEED to comment here. Joe Naylor and the guys (and girl) @ Reverend CARE about their products and the people who buy and use them. YOU CAN'T LOOSE with this combination. I've NEVER dealt with nicer people. AND the response time is ridiculously quick.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 23 years. I've owned my fair share of other gear. I haven't even seriously looked at buying another guitar since my introduction to Reverend. (my guitar prior was a PRS custom) I am a Reverend customer for life. The only problem is...they keep coming out with cool new stuff, faster then I can save the $ to buy it! I'd be crushed if this guitar were stolen. I try to keep an eye on it (and 000104) @ all times! These two guitars are simply "THA SHIAT"...cause they take my shit....and keep on ticking.

Made September of 2000, this one was built slightly prior to my Rocco. 22 frets on a maple neck. A single volume and tone control with a five way pickup selector and a mini toggle to split the bridge humbucker. Pickups are s/s/h with the splitter. Body is the Reverend exaggerated strat design, built from resin with a wood block and steel rod inside for sustain. There's also a banjo-ish arm rest that probably contributes some to body mass. Tremelo bridge with the hateful screw-in whammy bar. The neck is a Fender scale neck and is very substantial; Sperzel tuners help stabilize tuning for the whammy. The guitar came with a gig bag, a strap, and a bumper sticker.

Sound : 9
I play a wide range of music, from rootsy country to high tech modern music. I play Budda, Mesa, Rivera, and Duncan amps with DOD, Zoom, and Budda effects. The full bridge HB is dead quiet, and the single coil noise is less than you'd anticipate, even at high gain; for instance, my G&L ASAT was much noisier. Big fat sound, not as clucky as most strats, but the fullness of the single coils offsets that. Not a terribly bright guitar, but very warm, even with the maple neck. The sounds are generally in the strat mode, although the middle and front pickup have very similar tones. I wish that these pickups were more distinct from one another, and I wish that the volume control's taper was a little more gradual. All that said, this guitar feels terrific, sounds great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Great set up, no flaws that I can see. The tone and volume controls are scratchy and the volume control, when fully off, seems to short a little and intermittantly allow some signal to come through. Other than these everything is great.

Reliability/Durability : 10
My Rocco has behaved wonderfully live and I expect no less from this instrument. Hardware is solid. I replace all my strap buttons immediately with Dunlops, and they are rock solid now if they weren't previously. I'd depend on this guitar, but NEVER gig without a backup. I generally change guitars several times to refresh my ears and to take advantage of other instruments' features for certain tunes.

Customer Support : 9
Very friendly bunch. I've called them a few times over very minor issues, for instance: date of construction, and they've been a-ok. The warranty is for one year, covering manufacturer defects. Owning Mesa and Budda amps and working a day job in customer service for nearly 20 years, I have high expectations; these guys are fine, possibly not in the same league as Mesa, but you really have to love a company when the owner is responding to emails and picking up the phone for you. I don't know if they're incredibly kind and helpful, but they respond and are quick and courteous. No complaints at all.

I've been playing for close to 30 years now and have tried and owned guitars from Teisco, Kingston, Gibson, Harmony, Hamer, Fender, Lindert, PRS, Parker, Univox, G&L, Cort, Hohner, Epiphone, Global, Peavey, Ibanez, Yamaha, and probably a few that I can't remember. Right now I own PRS, Parker, Fender, Gibson, and a pair of Reverend guitars. If this was lost or stolen I'd take my insurance money and grab another one immediately.

Here's a little story: in 1997, three days after the birth of my second daughter, someone broke into a rehearsal space and made off with a prized customized '67 SG, a modded Les Paul, and a mutt Fender that I'd made all sorts of mods to. I replaced the stolen gear with Paul Reed Smiths but have been looking for guitars that really seem to fit me like those lost instruments ever since. If you've ever had a guitar like those stolen (the SG had been mine for over 20 years), maybe you know the feeling. These guitars just fit; they felt exactly right to me. Well, the Reverends seem to fit me like no guitar has over the last 3 1/2 years. It's as high a level of praise as I can offer, but I'm figuring out now exactly why I like these instruments so much. Your mileage may vary; some people think the design is clunky or ugly, some of the color combinations seem kind of odd or funky, maybe the size or heft of the guitar wouldn't be right for some people. For me these guitars just feel good, niggling issues notwithstanding. The next one up is the Slingshot for me, maybe in a few months. I hope that these are zooming out the door, and that Joe makes a mint on these, because he's got this down. I'm gushing, I know. Try one. Try one. See for yourself.
