The Club King is a pretty baby. It's very light, well-made with solid construction and quality materials. Volume & Tone knobs move the sound in and out with a smooth taper. The "Contour" knob is a nice addition...it allows you to roll off a little bass if the sound gets too boomy. The oiled, rosewood neck plays very well. (The fretboard was a bit over-oiled when first received; but no problem except for black fingers!) The frets are polished and well-machined, at a good height. The guitar 'feels' good on your body; easy to play, and just gets you in 'the groove' right away. Overall, a very nice playing experience. The stock strings were sub-par, so i changed them out upon arrival and had to do a little intonation tweaking. I play std 10-gauge; the Club King makes them feel like silky strands under your fingers, not at all stiff.

Sound : 9
The Club King has that hollow-body 'thing' going for it.....smooth, dimensional tone. It's a beautiful experience playing this baby and hearing what's rolling off your hands; very inspirational. This guitar fit my nitch for a "cost-effective" (yuck...that sounds cheap!) Hollow Body to round out my guitar set. The sound out of this guitar is smooth with rich harmonic content; abundant, yet non-intrusive humbucker "oomph"; never over-the-top, and easily controlled with the smoothly-tapered vol & tone dials. The middle-blade position, especially, shows just how well-balanced the pickups are; the sound is lovely, with rich humbucker tone and a chimely top end, and smooth, yet not over-bearing mid's. Some have commented that the Contour dial doesn't do much; i differ on that .... it's designed specifically to be a lower-register roll-off, and for that purpose, it does just fine. For my playing needs (blues, rock, alternative, funk) the Club King delivers.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Fit & finish, for a guitar in this price range, are nothing sort of stellar. Action, when buying from a remote supplier, can vary greatly. Direct from Reverend, my Club King's set up was excellent (with the exception of the strings, which i changed out), and i've never needed any adjustments. The pup's were at a height that works for me; that's a player's own taste issue, though. The frets were machined well ... none of that 'slice your hand as you slide' thing. Some people don't like the looks of the control's chrome-plating; it's okay for me, but some might want to inquire with Reverend as to available options.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've had my Club King for over 2 years, and though it hasn't taken TOO many knocks (ha), it's held up perfectly. It holds tune-ups pretty well too, without having locking tuners (at least my model didn't have them)....BUT you need top-flight strings. Also, i'd suggest 10-gauge's at a minimum, for best playability & sound. (I'm biased on this score.) I wouldn't gig with a backup of this guitar, primarily because i can't afford to carry two of the same thing. I have a Strat and PRS to keep my Club King company! Happily, the Club King is not an expensive guitar, so it's less vulnerable to 'pocket-pickers'; and it wouldn't break the bank if that happened.

Customer Support : 8
I'd say customer support is good; they answered my phone inquiries readily, and provided phone support while the guitar was on order. I will say that their front-line support needs some additional "training" in some respects; for example, when i commented on the fretboard oil issue, the guy's response was "it's the strings". Of course that's a silly, bogus response that i found amusing (i was commenting on it more than anything else since i knew what the reason was), nevertheless, some may find that sort of feedback "mis-leading", shall we say?

Overall Rating : 9
I'm an experienced player, who's been out of the loop for MANY years until 2005, but i do know basic quality & playability, at least as it pertains to me & my druthers. The Club Kins is DEFINITELY a top value, but not JUST because of price. If it didn't perform well with a quality build, it wouldn't be worth much of anything to any serious player, amateur or otherwise. The Club King DELIVERS on all the important counts. I'd buy one again in a hearbeat ..... especially when you stop & look at all the totally outrageous prices out there for the "standard" names like Gibson, et al. (And BTW, since we're on the subject .... what's up with that new Gibson 339 that'll run you close to $2k, and is bringing so many heartaches to its players?!? I don't know about YOU, but I'VE got no time or $'s for that sort of crap....)

This is a great guitar. I purchased it directly from Joe Naylor at the Philly guitar show a few years ago. I pluged it in at the show and them purchased it on the spot.

After 3 years no issues.

After 3 years no issues.

You can always get someone. Try that with Fender or Gibson.

The look and sound it perfect for me. I was looking at a Les Paul with P-90s and why spend $2,500 when you can get a smokin axe for around $600. I just purchsed a Roundhouse 290, it will be here in a week. I have owned 3 Reverends. Never an issue. I have owned 3 Gibsons and I had issues with each.

Just afollow up review to an earlier posting. Had this guitar for months and gig withit without a backup as this Guitar is my main axe now and for all those confused about it's weight by an earlier poster this thing weighs in at just under 8 lbs. If that's heavy for you perhaps you should play violin

Slid Korina wood body cut out to semihollow shape with a 5.5mm spuce tod (solid wood) and a shooting star F hole onl about 1 3/4 inches thich and one of the most comfortable if not The most comfortable gitars I've ever owned. I have 2 agree with a couple of people here and diss agree with one. I've been palying guitar for 23 years and I have never reviewed on here befor but this guitar is soecial. To start with all solid wood and wonderfull neck...great feel and great access. The other thing I found to be true that as compared to ANY semihollow guitar I've ever play and IMO I've played an awfuklly lot of them all shapes and Sizes....from ES33e's to Yaamaha To Ibenez artstar to wildcat, Hagstrom, etc, etc. This is the lightest semihollow I've palyed. with a rosedwood tremolow and a fixed trem. The tuners are good and very secure but it takes a hit here for time and effort though I would rather have them than no locking tuner at all

Sound : 10
Absolutely comes of age here. Will do about anything you want it to do. I play mostly Classic rock...folksy...country and jazz and this guitar pulls off everything I can throw at it without a hitch. It not only pulls it off, it excells.....I Love this thing

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Frets are a little big but are done flawlessly. Neck id a dream to ply and controls are laid out exactly where you'd expect them. I knock off a point here that while the placement is great especiall the Bass cotour knob. I don't like the silevr metal knurled metal. I replaced them with fender strat knobs as soon as I got it. I've been playing so long I forget where I'm at sometime and like to be able to tell with a look:i,E, the knobs

Reliability/Durability : 10
This would probably servive a barroom brawl and is honestly the only guitar I have never brough a backup for in 10 years

Customer Support : 10
Pick up the phone AAAAA+++++

Even with the minor flaws this is a road warriors dream..I absolutely love mine and have paid 4 times what this guitar cost and gotten nothing for the money but a name. This is honestly the best investment I've ever made in a guitar and this is my first review. There is Nothing anywhere near this price range unless you want to go Hohfner Very thin topof the line

This is just a follow up to the review I did earlier. Having had the guitar for a couple of months now I have ti say that of all my gear....and believe me when I say I'v got and had a ton of guitars this is one of the most versatile and wonderfull playing guitars I have ever owned. I don't know why someone would say this guitar is heavy. It weighs in under 8 lbs and that's less than my custom shop strat and 4 lbs lighter than a les paul. This guitar IS light and an absolute joy to play. Hats off to Joe Naylor and his crew for finding a way to build such a quality LIGHT guitar that just sings and sings . I sold my Ibanez AS103 because of the weight (it weighed too much to enjoy playing it....don't get me wrong it's a quality instrument and sounded very good but THAT was one HEAVY guitar) This guitar is so comfortable it's hard to put down and (at least to me) is the lightest semi-hollow body I've ever played in all of my 51 years on this earth. I LOVE it!!!

I have the 2 paf humbukers the neck wound to be slightly cleaner and the bridge wound to be slightly hotter. 1 volume 1 tone an 1 Bass contour control that gives you a plethora of sounds with just a little twaking. I have the blueburst finnish which is just awesome looking and the shooting star soundhole. Thi is by far the thinnest (1 3/4#) and lightest semmi hollow I have ever played. It is a Korina body (please note here that others have called it basswood and reverend has never used basswood in this model) with a 5mm solid spruce top. Wilkinson locking tuners and string trees for the E and B strings. I haave the stop tail piece as I personnaly never use tremelos.

Sound : 10
WOW! This guitar really shines with a Variety of amps. I use a Tranor 15W YCV20 WR with a greenback speaker, an ashdown fallen Angel and a Vox AVT50 and it sounds great thru all of them. I hooked it up to my friends new Switchblade amp and it REALLY sang. The sound is very very open and the Bass contour lets you dial in everything from crunch to Brit and anything in between. By far the most versatile guitar I have ever owned and I've owned alot.I compared it to the PRS custom SE hollowbody and while I really liked the PRS this was lighter and the Bass contour made it alot more versatile (IMHO)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
No complaints here. Set up by Steve at Joe Naylors Warren, Michigan building and he did a SUPERB job...no string buzz....intonation was dead on and the string height just right...a solid 10

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Don't know but it seems to be solid as a rock

Customer Support : 10
Call Reverend and nine times out of 10 Joe Naylor will pick up the phone...try that with Fender, Ibanez or Gibson

This is one of the finest instruments I have ever owned I have owned (and still own) way too much gear. It has quickly become my favorite guitar. I sold My Ibanez AS103 1 week after I got this. The Ibanez was beautiful and sounded great but it weighed a ton and was nothing but pretty plywood (laminate...same thing). My Club King is light has a HUGE variety of tones and is by far the most versatile guitar in my arsenal which includes an Ash custom shop Strat, a Gibson SG and 3 other Reverend guitars. This is my favorite guitar by far and worth at least double the price.

My guitar is a reverend Club King HB, blue burst finish, semi hollow beauty.
it came with two humbuckers, no complaints here, a very high quality output can be achieved with a bit of tinkering.
there is however one complaint, and it's about the les trem Tremolo,
which is not that great, and also it makes the guitar go out of tune.
anyhow, don't let that discourage you. this guitar is a work of art by my standarts.
it has the dippest, fullest, richest tone, and it's just what i've been looking for.
give it a high quality reverb, and you will shine and seduce women wherever you go. (maybe)

Sound : 9
I play mainly instrumental stuff, like jazz fusion, or even rock solo, what do you know, this guitar can gracefully leap beetween one another thanks to a unique button it has.
i have a small tube amp (fender hotrod deluxe) and with it the guitar sounds beautiful, (although i whouldn't recommend this amp)
the main thing about this guitar, at least from my point of view,
was to sound very deep, and to still be understood, i played many guitars, and even ones with a much higher price tag, until i found this one. this guitar is worth playing.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
when i bought it there was a slight problem with the octaves,
but after i took it to setup shop, it's flawless.

Reliability/Durability : 9
a very heavy wood, and a very heavy guitar in general, don't trust the person above me that said this guitar is light, it is deffintly not light, it's heavy.
and we all know what that means, you could probably kill a few man or dogs with it and it will still be ok.
the finish is so beautiful, and the provided case is so nice,
that i actually keep her warm and tighty. no problems so far.

Customer Support : 10
flawless, one of the best.

Overall Rating : 9
ok. the bottom line.
i've been playing for 5 years, i owned and played many guitars,
this guitar is a great find to anybody that is sick of his old equipment and is ready to make a leap to the next league.
this guitar is deffinetly a high standard one.
if it was stolen i whould probably cry, and then look for something even better. (lay off me i'm broke)
i love the deep, full, rich tone that this guitar has,
i dislike the les trem, i dislike the cheap looking headstock, i dislike the weight of it.
but in the end, this guitar is worth it.
if you like the sound of pat metheny, and looking for a guitar that can produce those low-tone slicky slide moves - this is the one!
much cheaper then a gibson, and gives you so much more.

Same as the above, only mine is burgundy color (no longer available). That???s the only thing I would change is more color options. Joe says this way he can offer more models,oh well. I would have liked one in black with a bigsby but they don???t offer bigsbys anymore as well.

Sound : 8
When I got this guitar home I plugged it straight into my SF Princeton Reverb and was very pleased with the sound. I do think the pickups sound a little constipated compared to my PRS Custom SE (about the same price) the PRS sounds a little more open sounding. A pickup change will fix that. For the money still a good deal.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar came with a good set-up but the strings would never stay in tune. I changed the strings to a set of D???Addario (10???s) and it fixed the problem right away. Other than the strings, this guitar is put together very well, nice fret job, neck pocket is nice and tight it also has a great paint job and is finished well.

Reliability/Durability : 10
If Joe doesn???t decide to change things, I think these guitars will be around for a long time. I never gig without a backup but these are very well made, reliable and very durable. If I ever needed to gig with just one guitar I think this would be the one.

Customer Support : 10
The Best, I think Joe even personally answers the phone. I know he will answer your e-mail right away, he answered mine right away. I don???t know where he finds the time.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing in working bands for over 20 years playing mostly Blues and Roots Rock. I have been using strats and teles for my main guitars for quite awhile now. I have always wanted to find a guitar that would be like a Gibson 335 but with a Fender styled neck and scale length, and that request was answered. I think I will change the pickups in the future but that is just my tastes I am sure that a lot of players will like them just the way they are. I just love this guitar. If it were stolen I would hunt the son of a bitch down and get it back, after a little physical discussion.

'05 Korean made semi-hollow body single cutaway in tobacco burst. dual humbuckers, rosewood fretboard, 5.5mm solid spruce top with basswood body, maple neck, cream binding on the top of body and painted black back. 22 medium jumbo frets. Also purchased the TKL hard-shell case ($99 extra).

Sound : 10
Great for blues. Just has a ton of feel to it. The first time I pluged it into my little travel amp my wife said, wow that sounds SO bluesy. It just wants to wail.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great fit and finish, no big issues. The only thing I had to do was tweak the bridge setting on the low E up a litle to get rid of a tiny buzz at the first fret. Everything else was perfect right out of the box. The sunburst on the top is good, not great but good. the overall appearance of this guitar is really impressive, especially when you concider the price! The wood in the top is beautiful, straight grain (PLUS it's solid wood, not laminate).

Reliability/Durability : 10
I believe this thing will last a long time.

Customer Support : 10
Best service I've ever had in a purchase. When I was first thinking about this guitar I called the company to see about additional images (I purchased it from their very fine web site) and Joe Naylor (the owner) picked up the phone, he forward the requested images ASAP.

Overall Rating : 10
I LOVE THIS THING. I have been playing for about 20yrs, but only seriously for about the last two. Though the years I have had martin OM-18v (still have) & D-28 (sold), Ovation 1973 Artists Model (killed), Fender American Deluxe Ash Telecaster (sold) and a Gibson J-45 (on the way) This guitar is going to be one of my keepers. You can go out and spend $2k on a ES-335 with a plywood top or get a Club King with new, different and great style for about 25%.

This is a semi hollow spruce top, basswood body, dual humbucker axe. To quote the website..."Solid wood construction is featured throughout, with no veneer or plywood. The back, sides and center block are produced from one slab of basswood which is routed from the top, and then capped with a solid spruce top. Excellent sustain and attack are coupled with substantial resonance, for a uniquely big and responsive tone. This blues/rock bad boy delivers the spank and acoustic
richness only a full size semi-hollow can deliver, but with extra clarity and percussive qualites courtesy of the 25 1/2" scale maple neck. The bridge pickup is slightly hotter than a vintage PAF, and the neck pickup slightly cleaner. Bashing power chords or comping jazz, the versatile humbuckers keep it round, warm and woody." The guitar is light, resonant and sounds great with every amp I own (11 and counting). I especially enjoy it with my Goodsell 17. Can you say Allman Bros Live?

Sound : 9
I usually prefer Strats but i wanted a humbucker guitar to fill out the stable. I have been more than pleasantly surprised by the sound of this guitar. The pickups are not too harsh or powerful helping establish a broad bandwidth response. The pickups are well balanced and offer that full-bodied sound without muddiness or excessive distortion. Bass rolloff is a nice added touch. For the price this guitar is hard to beat. I have had many many fine instruments over the years but this has the best price to satisfaction ratio that I have ever had the pleasure of owning.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Set up has been nearly perfect. No adjustments have been necessary. Reverend necks are nearly legendary for their friendly feel and this is no exception. I would prefer a more substancial C-shaped neck but that would require a custom build and, hence, thousands more $. Fit and finish are flawless. There are no defects no problems.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Reliability should be fine. Not much to go wrong here.

Customer Support : 10
Very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff.

Overall Rating : 10
Super-Dupe!! What a pleasant surprise! Cannot find anything to dislike about this instrument. It's light, resonant, player friendly and inexpensive. Great to take to your local jam without worrying about it. Can't beat it.
