Got no idea when this 610/12 was made, I bought it feasably on Ebay and thought to make a good profit from reselling it. Having plugged it into my Marshall, for the first time, I started snapping at everyone who talked about selling it. - You might leave your wife, kids, family, job, house and friends. But this Ric you will NEVER! So, details don't matter, I never cared about them. It's just like when you love a woman you love the whole woman and don't start describing the shape of her earlaps. I own Fenders (Tele, Strat), Gibsons (LP and SG), and a Washburn Mercury. But the Ric is the one I'd go to war for, if anybody tried to take it away from me. Sentimental nonsense? I'm not sentimental, and this is not an unbelievable guitar. It's not a guitar, at all. It's the loveliest thing ever built on earth.
Sound

There are songs where I prefer the cool twanging sound of a Gibson SG. And a Stratocaster makes me shiver, ever since Eric Clapton played "Spoonful" with The Cream. But the full and warm gargling of my little Ric 610/12 gives me a feeling I never had before when I touched a guitar. It's like: "At last, she's there, and I'll do anything to make her stay." Plug it into a Marshall and add some light phaser. This guitar roars and gargles, and the richness of its sound washes you away. You can tune the sound, until you get that internal vibrating feeling that flows thru your whole body. It can give you a metallic giggle or the stern volume of being classical or the bluesy whining of one of your worst days. Attack is great, and so is the rest. It's like somebody who knows he can do everything, naturally: no posing, highly authentic, and addicting. Pity you can't go higher than 10! I'd suggest a 19.

It's a beautiful, light and extremely hamdsome guitar, and it's built like a tank. So forget about the rest.

It's like asking, if your 600 Benz is capable of bringing you down and up your driveway, safely. If there is any woman I'd trust blindly, it's the one I love. If there is any guitar I'd trust blindly, it's this one.

Been playing guitar, since 1965. Had to become over fifty to meet this guitar, at last. Of course, when you play old Spencer Davis, you want to use a Fender Tele to meet Spencer's sound. But when you want to create something of your own, you take your Ric and listen to those unbelievable 12 strings. I play rhythm. With this guitar, you blast the other guys away, and it still sounds beautiful. And that's it all, about a Ric: Beauty in appearance and sound. Nothing better. - 19, if possible.

I have had this 87 610-12 for about a year and a half and cannot believe how good it really is. The control layout is perfect. Everything is as it should be, logical with no BS gimmics. The balance between the pickups is absolutely perfect.

Sound, what kind of question is that for a 12 string Ric? It is THE SOUND. I currently use a 75 Deluxe Reverb. The Fender is absolutely perfect at low to medium volumes or mic reinforced when required with this guitar. A little reverb, a touch of tremolo, simply outstanding. I am not a big gadget guy and this thing cannot be beat by anything I have ever heard, it's also so cute in the standard boring fire burst that you almost want to pet it. I have it hanging in my office and I literally smile everytime I look at it or play it. This is the only guitar I have in there and every person that sees it has the same response, they are blown away by it. I also keep a 70 Champ amp in the office for that mid-afternoon break. I have only given it a 10 in this category as there is no provision for an 11.

I have no idea how this guitar came out of the factory but when I got it the thing was perfect. It was an impulsive purchase and probably the best one I have ever made. The action is fantastic. The only problem I have is that I am a bass player (30 years of Fenders and uprights) and when I first got it I was afraid I would snap the neck in half. It is almost like playing a Rolex, tiny and perfect. I also have a Guild F-212 I purchased new in 71 and it took a little getting used to but the overall fit and finish is better than anything I have ever owned (including a $10,000 Alembic bass)plus it's made right here in the good old USA.

Reliability? Who knows, who cares, listen to a Ric 12 string you won't care either.

They were great, I just had general questions when I got it and they actually seemed to give a shit even though I was the owner of a third hand piece. I design and build custom furniture and they have the same attitude I try to extend to my customers, ie: pride in workmanship.

I have been playing for 30 years, my how time flies. I currently have a 67 p-bass, fretless Alembic, 71 lined fretless p-bass, 72 Tele Bass, upright, 75 Tele, 83 HMT Tele w/ reissue maple neck (a really cool quirky guitar), Guild 12 string, 3 Yairi's, a couple Ovation basses (long scale fretless and short scale fretted), Martin D-35, Ramirez classical, and some weird stuff not worth mentioning. For amps I use the Deluxe Reverb and a Champ plus my bass rigs. If this little Ric ever went away I would definately get another one. I probably would opt for a Tom Petty 620 only for the fatter neck to help with my fat bass playing fingers, although the old 450's are really cool too.

I think this is an early 90's rick. It's got a black 'R' bridge and bridge cover. Black pickups, dot inlays and not bound body. Mine is a nice white, with matching headstock, brand new condition, (it was NOS) nice double layered black pickguard, and 12 strings.
Pickups are loud, neck is stiff, action is superb. and I like it.
I love the knob configuration, they are huge, and not in the way, and the fifth knob is the best for getting right where you think you ought to be, not where the manufacturers want you to be.

Rich, Full, beautiful. First of all, I love 12 strings guitars. I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out. 12 strings are better then 6. and that is the truth.
I've had vintage/new fenders, and gibson, and assorteds, but this is my first rickenbacker, and I am ready to use them exclusively. They are the punchiest, silkiest, edgiest, brainiest guitar I have ever laid my paws on. if this helps anyone.......good
rickenbacker, is better then fender and gibson.
rickenbacker is the Gentleman's guitar.

I love the laquered neck. I especially like the 610, I had the choice of the 620/12, but the triangle inlays turn me off, also I like the black pickguard. this guitar is the answer to all my post-guitar guitar loving sounds. the neck feels solid as an solid can, and I am a thin guitar lover. I like thin girls, and I like thin guitars. I collect thin guitars. Hagstroms are up there, but the Rick 600 series have the fullest, and most versatile sound, huge jangles, bass bursts and great sound everytime....all the while fitting under your arm like an elegant woman. so skinny, god bless the skinny guitar.
God bless Rickenbacker. the Gentleman's Guitar!!

This things seems so much more sturdy then my fender's. It just seems well made. Solid, and thick, when I pick it up. I cry. I can't believe it took me this long to figure out that Rickenbacker's were so good. They can do anything, and more. and they are made in USA!!
Rickenbacker is the guitar. the Gentleman's choice!!!!

Good lord, Rickenbacker are the best guitars. if anyone is trying to decide on guitars, or is in the mood for another, might I suggest a rickenbacker....they are amazing. they are so solid, in construction and in sound, they can go brit pop, standard pluckin', experimental bizzaro blap, and just anything. also 12 string guitars should be the only guitars made, I'm looking for a 24 string!
I love this guitar. I love Rickenbacker. they are the coolest, ever!
