94 Robin Avalon. Dual Humbuckers. This was made before the advent of Rio Grande pickups and it had Seymour Duncan 59 int he neck and a Custom Custom in the Bridge. I yanked those guys and put in a Rio Texas in the neck and a BBQ in the bridge. Mucho better, man. Awesome pickups. I ain't gonna rehash the features thing, but this guitar has something Gison (most of them) doesn't. It is quality through and through. I would not trade this axe for ANY Les Paul.

Sound : 10
I play blues and this guitar is my baby. It screams. It wails. It is gentle and a beast all at the same time. It is my ideal guitar. I hate distortion pups. No mush when playing distorted. Spank city. I play through a Class A cathode biased tube amp, and it is heavenly. You can clean it up just with picking dynamics. And the middle position is to die for.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Perfect in every way. You cannot get better fit and finish at ANY price. You might equal it, but you will not beat it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Of course, it is reliable.

Dave Wintz is a true gentleman. Call him up and he will actually spend time with you on the phone. Try to get the CEO of Gibson on the phone.

Overall Rating : 10
You just cannot beat Robin for quality, and if you buy used, they are the best value going. This honestly stacks up against top of the line Gibsons and PRSs. When I got my Avalon, I actually sold my Les Paul because I just did not play it any more. I know Harmony Central is known for the "home of the 10 rating", but this guitar really desreves it. You can't beat it with a stick for value.

A 1996 Avalon Classic handmade in Texas U.S.A. The Avalon is solid mahogany with a beautiful flame maple top (equal to a PRS 10 top). The body has natural wood binding and a single cutaway. The neck is similar to my Custom 22's wide fat neck and is very comfortable to play. The neck has a rosewood fretboard with pearl dolphin inlay that looks awesome. It has 2 Rio Grande humbuckers with one volume, 1 tone control and a 3 way switch. A fitted hardshell case is included. The guitar is simply beautiful to look at and play. A coil tap would be a nice addition though!

I play heavy original rock in the vein of Big Wreck, STP etc... and this guitar simply rocks. The sound is like nothing i've ever heard. Full, articulate and THICK. The clean isn't bad as well considering there's no coil tap. My only complaint is that the pickups are a tad microphonic when full out but is's a small price to pay for the tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
BEAUTIFUL!!! The flame top is easily a 10. Absolutely no flaws in the finish or fretwork that I can find. I had to get it set up for 11's which is expected - other than that no other work to be done. The guitar pratically plays itself with a flat fretboard, comfortable neck and low action.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's built as sturdy as any other guitar i've owned. Only played live with it a couple of times and there was no problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have never actually had to deal with Robin yet.

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing around 10 years. I have a PRS custom 22, Hamer Archtop GT and a Les Paul Classic. These are all great guitars but they are collecting dust since I bought the Avalon. I play through a Rivera M-100 with a Boogie 4x12 and the Avalon has THE TONE that the others can't compare with. This and my Custom 22 are tied for the best playability i've came across. If it were stolen i'd try to find a used one cause new this one is $3400 US.

I played a Fri/Sat gig the weekend after picking it up.......the

When you can walk through the "factory" with little or no notice, pick
out the wood to be used, select the hardware, and ask for anything and
get it.........try that with "you know who".Dave Wintz will open his
shop up and you can design anything you want.A great place to fullfill
a "Dream".

Overall Rating : 10
