The same as the two above.

I love the sound of this guitar! I use it mostly when playing jazz or rock and i was surprised how well it suits both genres. I like the warm sound it gives me when i plug it into a tube amp (for example the Peavey Delta Blues) although with small transistor amps that i've tried it on, there seems to be a bit too much attack coming from the humbuckers; making it hard to get a good clean sound.
all in all, i am very pleased with the sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought this guitar used and although it is over 20 years old it feels like it's straight from the factory! the action is quite low, which suits my style of playing. the pickups i love. and the finish? well, i bought this certain guitar because i enjoy Pat Metheny's music very much and have seen him use one just like this (except with a few modifications), and one of the things that pleased me the most was the brown stained top :) i guess we all differ in tastes. the only minus i would give was the tone controller which seems to have a bit of dust gathered inside over the years and sometimes makes noise when adjusting. not bad, but still.

Reliability/Durability : 8
i've really put this guitar into use, playing several live shows with it and i usually practice on it too. overall the guitar seems to be very solid build and i don't see it falling apart any time soon. i can definitely depend on it. i would use it on a gig without a backup if i had to, but due to the chance of snapping a string, i always have another guitar on the side...just in case.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
if this guitar was stolen, i would be quite upset, knowing how hard it would be coming across another one...haven't seen too many of these around. i think it compares well with other guitars, for example i definitely prefer my g303 to a gibson sg or a les paul...but this is mostly due to my love for this instrument. if you can find one, buy it. that's my opinion. and if you don't like it, contact me and i'll buy it off your hands =)

Mahogony body with carved maple top; Glued-in, chunky, three-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard; 24.75" scale; 22 medium frets; tilted headstock with 3-a-side machines; 2 humbuckers, 3-way switch on uper bout; tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece. Sound familiar? Yes, it's buit exactly like a late 70s Les Paul. Actualy buit by Ibanez in 1980-ish, on the same line as their well respected Artiste series.
Single volume and tone and controls for Roland guitar synth systems. Guitar and 24-pin synth outputs.
Originally no coil taps, no trem...

Sound : 6
I play everything from Blues and Jazz to experimantal metal, but mostly progressive rock. Unplugged, it is loud, warm and thick with a rich resonance that you can feel.
Plugged in, originally it was a but thin and weak for a double humbucker guitar, and I am marking it on that. I have since fitted it with Seymour Duncan JB and '59 pickups and it now sounds, as well as feels, like a Les Paul.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Build quality is excellent. There are no factory flaws. It had lasted well for its first 10 years and has remained stable and roadworthy for 10 years as my number one guitar. Rear covers, for example, are made of black anodised aluminium. The fretwork has always been excellent. When I first got it I slapped a stud-mounted Kahler Pro trem on it and set it up with 10s. I've not touched the setup since and it still has the lowest action without buzz or rattle of any guitar I have played. Maybe I was lucky in getting e good one.
The finish lets it down. It is kind of a mottled tobacco brown stain and realy does the wood no favours.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It has done very well, not letting me down in 10 years. There are several dings in the finish now, as the varnish is rather thin over the brown wood stain.

Last year I was able to buy a new 24-pin synth cable from Roland. I had to go elsewhere, however, for manuals.

Overall Rating : 10
I love it. It is so comfortable and easy to play and sounds excellent. It has never been a very fast player, because of the chunky neck. It is not so versatile as some. With the synth electronics, there is no room for coil tap switches or extra tone controls. It also doesn't have a huge amount of stage presence compared with PRS and other nicely finished guitars. It did remain my number one when I got a rather flashy and fast Gordy Redshift Custom a few years ago.
I am retiring it now, as I have just bought a Godin LGXT. But can I bring myself to sell off my old, Brown Guitar? I promised I would, but...

Made in 1980 by Ibanez Japan, 22 medium sized frets, solid arched mahogany top on a ditto body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard. Same controls as the model above except for the 3-way toggle switch for the 2 humbucking pickups, which seem to be the same as used on the Ibanez Musician. Walnut satin finish. Tune-o-matic bridge, stop tailpiece, non-locking Ibanez tuners, Gibson scale. Came in the original case.
Great instrument, sounds very bright and snappy, yet enough output to make my Boogie scream while sounding still very bright and open. Marvellous!

Sound : 10
I knew the pickups are humbuckers but they sound like as if the coils are connected parallel instead of serial, very bright and snappy, very Fender like but definitively you can hear the proper build of this guitar in the tone, very solid. Rich & full, absolutely one of the best sounding guitars I have (better then my Les Paul Custom '76, way better).... no dislikes!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Did the setup myself, had to adjust the truss rod a little, still want to lower the nut a little. Action is very good but I think due to the nut the guitar plays nice on the first 12 positions and then starts buzzing a little. Lowering the nut and setting the bridge a little higher shoudl solve this but even now this guitar plays itself. If anyone has got one in the attic collecting dust, mail me....

Reliability/Durability : 8
Very solidly built, no need for a backup on the guitar side. Very thick finish, this one will last for another 20 years without a problem. I must say that it is still in a condition like it just left the factory.

Customer Support : 7
Dunno, hope I can get some support from the store I bought it. Besides, I traded an old but nice Cimar Les Paul Custom copy on the Roland and had to pay 1050 Guilders to it. Not a bad deal I think.

Overall Rating : 8
Playing for 22 years, I own about 20 guitars now. Major guitars are a Hoyer Special '63, Ibanez AR300cs '81, Ibanez Les Paul Custom '76, this Roland guitar, Gibson Les Paul Custom '76 and an El Degas Crystal Strat. Furthermore some home made Tele copies, Epiphone SG '62, Custom SG 6/12, some nice basses etcetera.

I wish it had a nice tremolo system. Otherwise the GR303 is very complete.
