SPG Guitars SC850

Very much like a PRS type guitar. Korean built, made I'm guessing in 2006 or 2007, 22 fret set mahogany neck, rosewood fret board, solid mahogany body, two humbuckers, wilkinson vs50 trem, grover tuners, one volumn, one town.

I'm a very simple player, love the two humbucker configuration. The sound is a cross between a Strat and Les Paul. It has a nice warmth, but closer to a Strat sound than a Les Paul given the mahogany body and neck. The pickups are decent for stock pickups. Using the neck pickup and a good celan channel, the guitar does produce a great jazzy guitar sound.

I bought this from SPG and it came to me set up very well. The rosewood board was the smoothest rosewood, not a lot of grain. The craftsmanship on this guitar is very good. The fret wires were cut clean, no sharp edges. The finish was beautiful.

Although this isn't my main guitar, it has become one that travels to all gigs and is the first back up. Actaully there have bee na few shows where this was hte main guitar used due to strigns breaking. To be honest, I'm an abusive guitar player, bending strings and slamming pickup selectors back and forth and this guitar has held up for various evenings of three plus hour shows.

Before I bought this guitar, SPG answered all my e-mails and insane questions. There was a screw up in my order and hte sent hte wrong guitar, it was quickly resolved and new one was sent. I believe most of my questions and contact has been with the owner, not a customer service rep, which I think is great.

I have been playing since 1984 (you do the math) playing in both all original bands and cover bands. My only major complaint with this guitar is I would have loved it to have locking tunres as a stock option. Otherwise, for the money, this is an amazing guitar. In a shipping mistake, I received an SC800 which I was also very impressed with. If you find one, I would say you can't go wrong buying one.
