2008 Made in China. SX GG1 STD Bolt On CSB. 22 jumbo frets. Two volume and two tone controls, 3 way selector switch. Solid Alder arch top with bolt on maple neck. Dual humbuckers. Make of pickups unknown. Rosewood fingerboard. Gloss cherry sunburst finish. Les Paul body style. Tune-O-Matic style bridge and stop bar tailpiece. Tuners are marked SX, chrome. Frets have trapezoid inlays. No accessories.

Sound : 7
Use it with a 1970 Champ Amp and Marshall. Behringer reverb and Boss distortion pedals. Has a good full sound but the pickups are not the greatest quality, the bridge pickup could stand to be more agressive. I consider the sound to be a work in process because the guitar is a project guitar - replace the pickups and some hardware. Out of the box it sounds fine and when you consider the price it sounds great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
The finish on the wood is excellent. The rosewood needed some oil - it was pretty dry. No problems with frets or buzz. No warping no oxidation. Had to reset just about evryhting - action, pickup height, truss rod, lube the nut. Replaces the strings. The guitar will not stay in tune. I beleive this is an issue with nut height, cheap tuners and the neck needs more adjsutment. Setting the intonation given these challenges has not been easy but do-able. The pickguard and cover plates are peach colored. The pickup housings are cream. So they clash mightily. All in all I recommend staying away from this model and going the extra few dollars for the Agile AL-2000 or SX GG1 Cus both of which are Mahogany.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Not suitable for live play in my opinion. Good guitar for banging around...think of it as a disposable guitar unless you make a project out of it, but for what you'll spend as a project you are better off upgrading. Unless you are into the work of upgrading itself which I am, which is why I'm keeping this one. The finish I feel will hold up and most of it is solid and will stand up. The combination of shortcomings if not addressed with replacements and professional setup will not yield a live play guitar.

Customer Support : 4
Sadly, while Kurt responded to my email requesting replacements for the peach colored pickguard and access covers promising replacements. He never delivered as promised.

Been playing 38 years and own numerous guitars including other SX guitars, Gibsons, Fenders, Washburns, Epiphones and a Harmony. I wish the differentiation of this model from the other Les Paul clones rondowmusic offers had been clearer in reviews. In essence...I wish I could have read this review and been directed towards the additonal $80 to $100 models instead. Havings said all that...for $129 its all relative and you can't complain. I have an SX STL50 which is superb and an SX Pbass clone which is also excellent.

Basic Gold Top setup and hardware. Solid mahogany body and neck thru body. Very decent paint made to last.

Sound : 10
I was looking for an Allman Brothers sound. Using a great Airline tube amp. It is NOT noisy, although using single coil P-90's. I pull the bridge pickup volume down to 6, run the neck at 10. I had access to a 1956 Gibson Gold Top for about a week. This is the closes thing to that I've ever played. Blues, country blues, country rock and, of course, The Allman Brothers. The only Les Paul I could ever really get a sound out of was the Gold Top (I'm a bolt-on man). I can get a great sound out of this knock-off. I can't put the guitar down, and neither can my son. The P-90's are the real thing. They sound new cause they are, but the sustain and warmth of all that mahogany really come through. I will be trying an idea I heard of, a break-in CD, being played through the pickups to wear them in. The CD, of course, Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
A very nice-to-look-at guitar. Factory set up was as good as any top of the line guitar, I'm making minor adjustments, but the frets are absolutely planed straight, the neck is straight, just some minor adjustments to intonation and nut. I'll be going with .011's flatwound wound G to get that great sound, but this guitar is solid, folks. Minor finish flaws, but $129 usually only buys a good case. This is a great guitar, perhaps one of the best I've owned for sound and playability. I've spent countless hours touring USA and Canada, countless hours in the studio, and this box matches up to any I've used in both venues. I've also done major setup and restoration work on vintage guitars. This one is put together well, folks.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I imagine I could paddle a boat to my next gig with this axe and plug it straight in. This is real SOLID MAHOGANY, NECK THRU BODY. If pots, etc. go, so what? $5 at Radio Shack will repair the whole thing. We'll see about the tuning pegs; they're a little tight, which might be overcompensating for cheapness, maybe not. P-90's look okay. Tune-a-matic bridge and tailpiece are solidly mounted-none of the wobbly problems I've read about. Electronics are smooth with no wobblies.

Customer Support : No Opinion
If it needs repair, I'll do it myself. However, all the reviews I've read about Rondo Music are outstanding in the way of customer service.

37 years touring and studio, USA Stratocaster, very rare early Flamenco (from the 1930's), Jay Turser JT-134, Yasuma Martin D-18 knock-off, Dan Electro (original and rereleases). When I looked at the years of playing behind some of the SX reviewers, I felt more comfortable buying this pig in a poke, never having played an SX. I'm glad I did, 'cause this pig can fly. What a great axe! I wouldn't change a thing on it. If you have doubts about SX, forget-about-it. This guitar easily keeps up with any Gibson Les Paul. My next purchase will probably be the Tele knock-off. I'm hooked on SX guitars.

I have a SX GG1 STD with a natural color Ash top. Very, very pretty. I have had many comments on how good this guitar looks.
22 Fret mahogany neck, carve-top ash with mahogany back, set-neck.
2 humbuckers with tone+volume for each.

Feature-wise, it is just your average Les Paul copy electric guitar, no push-pull pots, coil-tapped humbuckers, or any other special features

Sound : 9
This is a Les Paul, for sure. To me, it is everything I need a Les Paul for. I also own a PRS, which is my main guitar. This guitar functions as a Les Paul for me, since I can't invest money in a Les Paul. Sounds great clean or dirty or extremely dirty. Anything most anybody wants an LP for you can do with this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
This was well set up out of box. I immediately upped the gauge of the strings, because I prefer heavier gauge than what is put on most in the factory. Pickups were right where I wanted them. Top was excellent looking. Electronics cavities were well routed, though I would have liked a coating of electronic signal blocking material. The only noticeable things were the control knobs were not put on correctly and the tuners were quite loose.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is tough and will withstand anything I'll put it through!

Never needed to contact Rondo Music, besides when I bought it.

Arch top, sunburst finsh, dual humbuckers. See previous reviews for other details.

Sound : 7
Sounds good and clean with clean amp. Somewhat mudddy when using distortion, but I find that turning the volume knobs down a bit from 10 cleans up the sound. Also, the tone settings have a fairly pronounced effect. I play mostly rock and blues on this thing. This one is a candidate for an eventual pup upgrade, but I'm satisfied with it for now as is.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up was very good as shipped. Strings just a teensy bit high for my style, but not so high that I have yet bothered to lower them. Fit and finish are amazing for a $99 guitar. Look real close and sure you could nit pick a detail here and there, but that's looking REAL close. The only thing I had to address was the jack. It's hold on the plug was a bit uncertain. I took off the cover plate, unscrewed the jack and bent the tip contact in a bit and problem solved, five mintues, tops. I noted the cavity was smoothly routed and also finished. Wiring looked neat. Frets and fretboard intitally felt slow, but playing it has smoothed them out.

Reliability/Durability : 8
The finish seems to be quite durable. Don't know about the durability of the hardware, time will tell.

Customer Support : 9
I ordered on a Thursday, item arrived that next Friday, fedex ground. That's from NJ to CA, about what I expected. Double boxed, well wrapped, no problems. I was sent email with tracking info.

I've been playing guitar seriously about two years. Having been a piano player for 45 years, the hands and theory were already there and I've always know the basic "cowboy" cords, so I've progressed rapidly. I have several other under $200 electrics, Squire Affinity Strat and '51, Epi LP Special II, Oscar Schmidt OE30 etc. On a price paid vs value scale, this one is second only to the Squire '51 which I also got for $99 with a bag and free shipping, and which I really enjoy playing. Had I paid the usual $150 for the '51, sans bag, this SX would easily be at the top of the price/value scale. But, ratios aside, this thing is a very good piece at three times the price. Frankly, this worries me. The Chinese are getting way too good at everything.

15 year player - mostly strats. Had wanted a LP but didn't have the budget. Other reviews led me to this guitar and I'm still in shock. It's beautiful. Dropped the action with miminal buzz and have found the bigger neck radius and string spacing(vs. a strat) has improved my playing. Weighed about 10.5 lbs out of the box, but I didn't balk at routing out another cavity in the back to drop a lb off the weight because even if I ruined it I would buy another. (I wouldn't try that on a 2000 guitar...). I did replace the tuners with Gibson nickel pearloid and they look great with the cream binding. Excellent service from Rondo Music - Buy this guitar!

Features : 10
Made 2004 in China. 21 frets Jumbo. Manufacturer lists body as solid alder and the top is alder but the rest sure looks like mahogany to me. The manufacturer also lists the neck as maple, but it appears to be mahogany also. Arch top as I said before, made of alder. Transparent cherry sunburst - beautiful. 3/4 size les paul type. 4 knobs, 1 3-way switch and a tune-o-matic just like the real deal. Tuners look like the cheap gotoh type and work better than cheap tuners are suppose to. The scale of this guitar is 23-1/4, the manufacturer lists it as 23-3/4. Neck is thin but not too thin, and as I said before it appears to be mahogany not maple. Bolt on neck but the cutaway is deeper than a real Les Paul so its easy to play all 21 frets. The only accessory that came with this guitar was the truss bar hex wrench (which I haven't used sense the neck is straight as an arrow.)

Sound : 10
This guitar suits my music style just fine, which is a little bit of everything. It plays the blues, rock, and metal like any other les paul type guitar. I played it through a Digitech RP100 into a Roland practice amp in my bedroom. Played 4 or 5 of my favorite patches and it sounded good with all of them. This guitar sounds just like my Epiphone Les Paul Classic (both have ceramic humbuckers)but without the scratchy pots and switch my Epiphone has had since it was brand new. I like everything about the sound of this guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
From the factory the action was medium high with no buzz anywhere. I lowered the action a lot (my personal preference) and I got buzz at the first fret on both the low E and the A strings. No where else. I filed down the 2nd fret just a little, raised the action just a little and the buzz went away. The guitar now has medium-low action with no buzz. After lowering the action I had to lower the bridge pickup some while the neck pickup was perfect where it was after I lowered the action. Everything works as it should, and nothing was loose out of the box. Other than the 1st fret being a little low I couldn't find anything else wrong with this guitar. The finish is beautiful and I could not find any scratches or dents. It looks better than my Epi Les Paul with a low grade quilt maple top. I'm taking 1 point off for the low 1st fret (which I probably would never had noticed if I didn't prefer very low action.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is solid wood, not plywood and the parts are better than you will find on almost any Chinese made guitar but I can't speak as to its durability because its too new and I treat my guitars like pets not work tools like many gigging musicians do. I can tell you as of right now its sounds good enough to gig with. Never gig without a backup, unless God himself has promised you that you aren't going to break a string.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I bought this guitar and one other from Rondo Music. The other guitar turned out to be a bass when I opened the box. Shipped it back the same day at my cost, with Rondo to pay me back once they receive the guitar. Don't expect any problems but I will post if I do.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 2.5 years. I own way too many guitars, 1 bass, 3 amps (guitar, bass, acoustic/electric) Digitech RP100. Most of my guitars are cheap imports because I love project guitars, but I do own an Epi Les Paul Classic and 3 decent Kramers. This guitar is without a doubt the best bang for the buck guitar I own. It looks better and sounds just like my $400 Epiphone LP. For the amount of money this guitar cost it could not be made any better.

2005 Chinese Les Paul Clone, 22 frets, Ash top with natural finish, standard LP controls, 2 passive generic humbuckers, mahogany body with mahogany set neck, rosewood fingerboard, generic grover knock off tuners, 24.75 scale neck, thick, a little thinner that the real thing

Sound : 9
I play Hard Rock and Metal, and this guitar nails the tone. Right now i'm using it on a Crate Blue Voodoo halfstack, and it's amazing. I thought i was going to have to swap the pickups for duncans or dimarzios, but the stock pickups are suprisingly good. Minimal to no noise, however the pickups aren't wax potted and tend to feedback at higher volumes because of this.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action was a medium-low when received, however i like my action as close as possible without buzzing or fretting out when bending. The neck pickup needed to be raised but that was no big deal. The only flaw of the guitar was the jack, the part the holds the cable in was bent slightly outwards, causing the jack to fall out when the guitar was moved quickly, again, easy fix. the binding is flawless, although i wish it covered the headstock as well. the fretboard was pretty dry when i first got it, but some orange oil and some fretboard polish did the job pretty well.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I haven't had a chance to gig with this guitar yet so i'm not quite sure. It feels solid, definately dependable.

Customer Support : 10
The part of the knob that fits onto one of the tone controls was broken in half, and Kurt is gonna send me a whole new set of knobs. I had plenty of questions before buying this guitar, and Rondo is pretty quick and helpful.

I've been playing for 4 years, and have a B.C. Rich NJ Classic series Bich, a Guild acoustic (not sure of the model), and a Hohner LP copy. If this guitar was stolen, i'd definately buy another one, probably with a different finish though, just to keep things fresh. There's not one thing to hate about this guitar, it's stellar in every way. I'd compare it to the real deal, and in most cases, i prefer the SX. I wish it had some real grovers, but other than that it's pretty damn good.

Brand new SX GG1 STD. Made in China. Mahogany body and neck with rosewood fretboard with "pearloid" inlays. Chrome bridge, tailpiece, and tuners. Cream binding. Two tone and two volume controls. This is a Les Paul copy with a 13.75" radius fretboard.
The switch and pots I'm sure are cheap and I anticipate replacing them someday.

Sound : 9
I was pleasantly surprised by this guitar. I play mostly rock, blues, and whatever else suits me for the day. I play through a Roland BC 60-310 and a new Crate VTX212 amp. This guitar sounds awesome on both the clean and high gain settings, and there is zero noise through the pickups. I had previously owned a Gibson LP Studio, and this might sound crazy, but this guitar is built equally as well, and soundwise, I don't think you would be able to tell one from the other.

This guitar is built like a brick. Solid and HEAVY.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar needed just a few small tweaks, otherwise the set up was fine. I had to straighten the neck slightly and lower the action just a bit, but otherwise everything was fine. The finish on this guitar is absolutely flawless, and the fretwork is equally as good as on my two American strats. No rough edges, seated well, and well polished. The binding is well-done, and really adds to the guitars appearance. Excellent guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Like I said, this guitar is solid and weighs a ton. I was surprised at the quality of the hardware. The tuners seem fine, just stretch your strings before playing. Time will tell how this guitar holds up, but so far, I really like it.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing since 1969 and own two american strats and a jay turser LP copy (not as nice as this guitar). My two amps are a Crate VFX212 and a Roland BC-60 310. This guitar is up there with my two American strats, without question in terms of quality. I was a doubter given the price, but I'm amazed as hell. This is the second SX guitar I own (I also own a bass) and the quality certainly exceeds the price. This guitar could easily sell for at least $500.
Rondo music does an excellent job of selling quality guitars at affordable prices, and all you have to do is e-mail them with a question, and they will answer it for you. On the Rondo Music website, they advertise this as a beginner or intermediate level guitar, but they are definitely downplaying that aspect. This is quality. I may put some Gibson pick-ups on this eventually just for the hell of it, but this sounds pretty damn good as is.

This is a solid mahogany guitar with a natural finish. There is a flawless cream colored binding on the top and along the neck. It has a set neck and was crafted in China. It has all of the standard Les Paul features: two humbuckers, a three-way switch, a tune-o-matic bridge, four knobs, etc. The frets are true Jumbos: big an strong. The tuners look like Schallers, though not identified as such, and hold their tune accurately. This is a stunningly attractive guitar: All chrome, cream binding, and naturally finished mahogany.

Sound : 10
This sounds JUST LIKE a good Gibson Les Paul. I currently have 12 electrics, including two '91 American strats, two teles, a jagstang, a third American strat, and numerous Yamaha and Ibanez. I played in bars and clubs through the 80's and half the 90's. I've had a Twin, but I currently use a Fender 185 stereo'd with a Peavey Transtube EFX.

I once had a Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul from 1970, got seduced by that Fender sound, and traded it for an Ultra Strat. Here's the bottom line: This SX Les Paul is one of the most beautifully sounding guitars I've ever heard. It sounds better ( richer, deeper, purer, clearer) than the Black Beauty I traded away. Honest.

I like to play Nirvana, Beatles, Concrete Blonde, Clapton/Cream, Neil Young, Led Zep, etc., and this sounds and plays like a dream. This truly sounds as good as a Gibson Les Paul... and better than MANY of the LP's that I've played.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Everything was perfect but the action, which was set too high. The finish, the routing, the bridge placement, the intonation, the neck's straightness, the tuning pegs, the controls and switches were all perfect. The strings - which is one place where they obviously cut costs- were horrible. Cheap and already rusting. I replaced them with Boomer CL's and lowered the bridge (easily, by lowering the bridge's two outer screws a quarter turn each) and all was well. Except for the action, which was too high for me, the setup, electronics, and finish work were perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Everything seems like it was built to last forever. Strap buttons are rock solid, as is the set neck. It could easily be my main guitar if I didn't also want my strat sounds. But I'd do the "Pepsi challenge" against anyone's Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul anytime.
I fully expect this guitar to outlast me.

I've been playing live since 1974. Besides the guitars listed above I also have a custom made rosewood strat with a Chandler pre amp, and once used a Gibson SG Special as my main guitar.
My favorite feature is the beautiful dynamic tone. On a clear setting you can hear it all: a shimmering top, strong middles, and a specific solid bass response on the low E and A strings (great for walk-downs, picking, and articulate low notes. And on distortion it just sings.

My second favorite feature is just how beautiful and well made it is.

This thing is the best deal on a new guitar that I've ever seen.

Out of the box I wasn't really pleased with the sound of the pickups especially the NECK pickup. I have since replaced both pickups.

The guitar also had trouble staying in tune. After having the anotation looked at and the action fixed it stays in tune pretty good.

After making the above changes this guitar sounds sweet.

As mentioned above I had the action fixed right away.

The finish is beautiful. Natural mahogany.

The guitar weighs about 9lbs which I love. I'd prefer a slightly slimmer neck but no big deal.

As for durability I think this guitar will take some punishment and keep on goin'

For the price I think this is a great guitar.
It's well made, looks great.
Even I replaced the pickups (whick was my biggest complaint) the stock bridge pickup wasn't bad at around 13 Kohms.
The guitar plays and feels great.
