2006 made in China
thin but solid maple top....mahogany body.
typical les paul setup.
nice medium-chunky neck almost like 50's Gibson but you can see where they glued on the headstock and another joint by the body on the neck but what do you expect for 189.00???????
Nice jumbo frets and beautiful inlays.....very cool

Sound : 9
sounds like a les paul and looks really good for a cheap guitar.
be prepaired to do some fret/nut work on any guitar from China.
Factory pickups are kind of weak and boring but not too bad.
If you have a fake digital amp then they sound just fine but if you have a great tube amp then you can tell they have to be replaced.
I settled on a Budda Superdrive 18 II which covers most basses very well and is my all time favorite amp...I've had Soldano hr 50, 5 different Marshalls (come on they are pretty great amps) Budda superdrive 30 (too loud) Demeter (second favorite amp), Peavy 5150 (not too bad. And about 12 other really good amps, most of them sounded great but at 100 or 50 watts they were much too loud for me.....The 18 watt Budda is perfect for most clubs/practice and really it is almost too loud (I like to crank the master to get the tubes crunching hard and clean it up with the guitar volume whenever possible).
Overall it is a great sounding guitar which is a little dead sounding compaired to a GOOD Gibson les paul but right on par with the Studio model from Gibson....at least Gibson made a model that most people can afford so they can look cool....

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
just as I thought I had to file and polish the frets and file the nut down to a proper height.
set the intonation right although it wasn't very far off from the factory but I am picky.
steel wool the back of the neck to get rid of the cheaper poly/sticky finish.
I bought this guitar to try a set of EMG's 81/85 because I knew the China pickups would have to go anyway.
Now this guitar plays and looks better than a stock ESP deluxe ( I was going to buy the ESP ) but thought I would give SX a shot and I am glad I did because this thing rocks.....It looks and plays better than a Gibson (except the customs, Standards and Classic reissues)
210.00 for the guitar, 100.00 used EMG's, 2 1/2 hours worth of setup for a total of 310.00 for a guitar that sounds. looks and plays better than anything under 1000.00.
Don't get me wrong, only Gibson has that CREAMY sound but for heavy rock this is great
It will tie me over until I get another high end Gibson because Gibsons are the best (and PRS).....not including their crappy studio models.....junk

Reliability/Durability : 10
tuners are ok for now but I will change them soon.
the finish is very pretty but not pretty like a high end Gibson or PRS....on par with Epiphones.
Strap buttons are cheap but every guitar should have straplocks unless you do not care if it hits the floor.
This guitar is a tank....10.6 pounds.

Customer Support : No Opinion
bought it from Rondo music. They don't like to answer their emails very fast but they will answer you..

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 20 years
I wish I could have seen a picture of the back because it is just a laminate of mahogany even though the body IS real mahogany....What's up with that????it must be like a 6 peice body (explains the deader sound when compaired to a high end guitar's 1 or 2 peice body.
Awesome deal....If you do not know how to set up your own guitar then you might not want to buy it because it can cost you upwards of 150.00 to have it done...
I would suggest this guitar for all players up to active musician.
I like playing it in front of people because it is a touch different than everything else and I can tell them it only cost 200.00 new and it looks/plays better than most guitars ..(only because I set it up and changed pickups/pots.)
Some day I might be as good as the PRS techs....they are GOOOOOd.

2005 Model SX GG1 SUP Set Neck. Never heard of this brand before and ran across it on Amazon.com I did some checking and was generally impressed with reviews on Harmony Central. It didn't take much trouble to find SX Guitars website (http://www.sxguitarspain.com/sx_indice.htm). I was surprised that the company is located in Spain, but not surprised that the guitar is made in China. But, knowing what is coming out of China these days - low cost products with amazing quality - I didn't hesitate giving consideration to buying this guitar. I wanted a Les Paul. I just couldn't justify laying out $2,999 for the Gibson name. So, after looking at many Les Paul copies (i.e., Epiphone, Silvertone, Samick, Agile, etc.) I settled on the SX GG1. What clinched the deal was the positive things I've read about dealing with Rondo Music (the exclusive USA dealer for SX guitars). Ordering from Rondo couldn't have been easier. I ordered a hard shell case along with the guitar and hoped they'd ship the guitar inside the case - which they did. I'm 52 years old and have been playing guitar for almost 40 years. I've picked up a thing or two about guitar quality. I was hoping for the best, but expecting less. I cannot begin to describe the my surprise when the guitar arrived and I first opened it. First of all, the guitar is beautiful. A veritable work of art. I was afraid to play it because I was so intimidated by it's looks. I just stared at it for a while. The finish is absolutely flawless. The craftsmanship is unbelievable. I had just been the The Guitar Center in Austin, TX a week prior and played some Gibsons & Epiphones that did not match the looks of this guitar. The SX GG1 is $189 at Rondo and the Epiphones and Gibsons are hundreds more. The SX is mahogany with a maple archtop body and set in mahogany neck. The tuners are decent, as are the bridge and tailpiece. I was expecting cheap knobs and noisy pots. Nope. The two humbucker pickups are clean, clear, crisp and loud. No dead spots. The neck is true, the action right how I like it. I have no complaints. Oh, I should mention that the pickup selector switch broke in shipping. I emailed Rondo and they UPS'd another switch ASAP. The switch they sent me was of better quality than the one I replaced. I suppose it would be a big negative to have to replace a switch on a brand-new guitar, but I've worked on so many guitars over the years, it didn't faze me one bit. There's no way I was sending this guitar back on account of a broken switch. It's tough to ship and transport guitars.

Sound : 10
The quality and the sound of this guitar is well above expectations. I have no complaints.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Awesome fit & finish. The pickups were adjusted to a "t". I tweaked the intonation on the B string. That's it. No flaws. Wonderful quality.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is a sturdy "perfect" guitar. It'll be here long after me!

Ronda is a great online merchant. Don't hesitate to buy anything from them.

I have a 30 year old Alvarez acoustic 6 string. A 1980's model Westone Electric. I now have my "dream" guitar, the SSX GG1. I'd be devestated if it were lost or stolen and would rush back to Rondo to replace it.

2004 or 2005 SX GG1 CLA Gold Top w/P90's. It's a Les Paul knockoff purchased from rondomusic.net. It is an archtop and has a solid mahogony body. Mahogony set neck with rosewood fretboard. Vinatge cream body and neck binding. 22 jumbo frets. A pair of no name P90 pickups with 2 volume and 2 tone controls. No name non-locking tuners. Gold top finish. Chrome hardware. Scale is the typical Les Paul length; 24.75". Width at the nut is 1 5/8". Weighs over 9 lbs.

Sound : 8
I play mostly rock and blues with some country thrown in every now and again. I do venture into other areas as needed though. I am the lead guitarist for my church's worship band and we are pretty diverse. This guitar suits rock and blues beautifully. Here is my chain. Guitar ->Boss TU2 Tuner ->Original Crybaby -> MI Audio Blue Boy Overdrive -> Boss SD1 w/Franklin Mod #2 ->7 Band EQ ->Fender Blues Jr or if I don't feel like lugging that to church an old beatup Marshall VS 8012. This is my first guitar with P90's. All I can say is I love them! It's real easy to get that vintage classic rock O/D sound. These no name P90's are a surprise. The cleans are nice and full especially in the middle position. But, I didn't buy it for the clean sound. I bought it to rock and that it does. It's just classic rock n roll sound. The neck pup rocks too. Great blues tone both clean and with O/D. Another sound it does nicely that I use in the worship setting is with slight overdrive on the bridge pup for arpeggios and the like. It's a nice sound for fills. Think Keith Urban. The pickups are on the noisy side. I expected that though. It's a little annoying but when your playing the hum is not a problem. My other guitar is a Squier Tele with Rio Grande Muy Grande pups and the hum is noticeably louder than they are. Overall, I think the guitar sounds great. I think when I get bored with the sound I will drop in some Gibson P90's and rewire the whole thing. But for now there is no need for that. The frets are a little bigger than I like but they're OK. The only real downside to the guitar is the tuners. Very cheap. They are being replaced with grover locking tuners ASAP. I am happy considering what I paid. It's the deal of the century as far as I am concerned.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I bought this guitar knowing I was going to have to do little work on it. As soon as I got it I did a set-up on it. I polished the frets and conditioned the fretboard. The fretboard was very dry. After the conditioner it now looks great and is silky smooth. I had to add a little teflon tape to the studs that the bridge sits on because they were woblling back and forth. Easy fix. I had to swap some of the saddles around to get the intonation correct. It was way off from the factory. The neck needed no adjustments. It was perfect. Re-strung it and away we go. It plays good. Not great but good. The guitar body is a solid piece of mahogony. Wow, I was surprised to say the least. The neck joint looks nice and stable. There are some finish flaws especially around the neck and the higher frets. The higher frets have some glue on them but nothing that affects the sound or playability. And the binding looks good but the gold finish and the clear top coat have flaws around the neck area. The fretboard inlays are done well however their appreance is less than spectacular. Pretty dull actually but what do you expect for a cheap guitar? I was expecting to have to re-wire the whole guitar but everything works fine for now. The electronics look cheap but everything works properly and smoothly with no noise. Bonus! This thing plays every bit as good an epiphone les paul. And I've played many to compare.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've been using it live in church for 3 weeks. No problems yet. The thing feels like a tank compared to my 7lb tele. I use it without a backup but I am only 10 minutes from home. If it took a dive on me I could just go back home to get my backup for the next service. I would never play a regular gig without a backup. The guitar is built solid and seems like it will withstand live playing for a long time. The only thing I don't have confidence in is the electronics. At the first sign of scratchy pots I will rewire the whole thing. My guess is doing that will cut down on the hum a little as well.

Customer Support : 10
Rondomusic.net is a great place to buy a guitar online. Kurt is really helpful and returns emails quickly. This is actually the second one of these from rondo. I had to send the first one back because one of the tuners was loose and could not be tightened back down. The wood was stripped. I purchsed the guitar on a thrusday. It was at my door the following wednesday. I sent back the original on a monday and had the replacement on saturday of the same week. Top notch service.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 8 years off and on. Most recently about 3 years back on. My other gear is listed above. If this guitar was stolen I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. In fact my next guitar will be the SX GG1 Supreme with humbuckers and a flame top. I love the p90 sound and the feel of the instrument as a whole. It's well balanced. I hate the tuners and I am most disappointed with them. Ah well, I always wanted locking tuners so here is my excuse, right? My favorite feature was the price. You have to spend at least $400 dollars to get these same features in an epiphone les paul. All this for $130. That's a steal in my book. I love cheap guitars. This is my second one. I buy them, set them up, replace the pups with something special, rewire and bam, a great sounding guitar I am not afraid to wail on. I can just plop these in a gig bag and not care if the get dropped, dinged, banged and the like. DOn;t get me wrong I baby my gear, but if it does happen it's no skin off my back. What a great value! Highly recommended.

A Les Paul copy with 4 knobs and it's own personality. Cherry sunburst, stylized mother of pearl fret markers (not just dots), double body binding, neck and headstock binding, mother of pearl logo and design on headstock. Made from mahogany with a tiger maple veneer. Really unbeleivable features at this price level. I mean come on, a set neck guitar with a sunburst finish for $149.99, it's just crazy. And it sounds great.

Sound : 10
It suits me perfectly. It's my first Gison style guitar, I wish I had made the move from Fender types long before this. I haven't played an actual Les Paul, but there's nothing to complain about at all. It sounds like a ballsy humbucker equipped guitar perfect for your favorite classic hard rock sounds.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action & finish was truly amazing. Maybe a little fret buzz, but at this price level with this beautiful of a finish I'm not complaining. The finish is gorgeous. If I had to replace the elctronics and have the whole set up redone, I still would not complain.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Built to last. Everything looks durable and wel constructed. God bless the Chinese.

No idea. I would try www.sxguitar.com and/or www.rondomusic.net. But, I don't thiunk I'll need it.

I've been playing on and off for over 15 years, but I'm still very much a beginner in many ways. I also own a Squier Standard Tele. If it were lost or stolen, frankly I'd cry. Then I'd laugh because a new one is only $165.00 and a week of shipping time away.

we are member of the VAGUE. Pretty famous french band from marseille. I just bought this guitar online www.sxguitar.com fatory direct from the website. made in 2005 the guitar is awsome. we bougth 2 pieces . one for me and the other for my son henry. we own gibson originals. but they are to expensive to carry around and damage or get stolen. the gg1 ash has a beatifully made solid top made of ash. sound so fuckin warm. electronics responds fine. controls are ok. volume, tone, selector 3-way it's got 2 humbuckers. sounding extremely fine. so we are not goin to change pickups. as we thought before purchese. Body has a solid Mahogany consruction with lots of sustain and power. THE HEADSTOCK AND THE BODY SHAPE. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONALITY. AND NOT JUST ANOTHER CHEAP GIBSON COPY has a satin finish. and body style is very difereent to our les pauls. has a more agressive cutaway. it makes body a bit narrow. we love it.
Bridge style Tune-O-Matic. works awsome.
Tuners are Non-locking SX GUITARS

Sound : 9
my son and I do rock band here in paris (france) and the sound is very solid. in comparasion to my gibson les paul standard '75. it's very similar but the good thing is that I must not carry it around. then I do not damage the good one and yes the cheaper on.e

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the guitar has come well set-up at from factory. but me and my sond henry always have special taste on e action and pickups adjustment. so we went for it. bridge and harware. came the way we like,.

other cheap guitars we have seen around have finish flaws, poor quality wood, rusted or oxidized hardware, loose tuning pegs,
poorly cut nut, poorly fit saddle, noisy pickup selector, loose controls. these do not have these kinds of problems atall. they look like a 1000$ guitar. but they cost only 200$.

SX Guitars philosophy is simple. Offer the best guitars for a perfect guitar playing experience at extremely affordable prices. company is staffed and run by musicians, people just like you who live, breathe & dream guitars. unique approach to selling & distributing guitar gear has enabled us to deliver the best prices in the industry

Reliability/Durability : 9
Will this guitar withstand live playing? of course. that's the reason we bougth the,
we do 5 nites a week i rock cafe down town.-
the hardware seem like it will last for a loooong time.
the finish is good enough to last, it doesn t seem thin and easy to wear off atall. the strap buttons are solid. we have put on straplock from schaller to increase security

Customer Support : 10
We get to hear good about GEORGE GORODNILSKI. A MASTER LUTHIER WE CAN TRUST. when the guitars came. we wanted to know about the maintenace. and every email has been taken with extreme care from the factory. they offer a good after-sale support.
warranty is 2 year.

How long have you been playing? I BEEN PLAYIN THIS GUITAR FOR 3 MONTH NOW. AND IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY. What other gear do you own?
WE HAVE THESE GIBSONS LES PAULS AT HOME AS JEWLS THEY ARE. IT'S NOT WORTH TO DAMAGE THEM AROUND AS THE EXPENSIVE THEY ARE.
Is there something you wish you had asked before buying this guitar?
If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else? DEFINITELY,. WE ARE GOING TO PURCHASE FOR THE END OF THE YEAR 2 MORE GUITARS. BUT WITH DIFERENT SHAPE AND FINISH.
What do you love about it? QUITE A LOT OF EVERYTHING What do you hate? What is your favorite feature? THE HEADSTOCK AND THE BODY SHAPE. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONALITY. AND NOT JUST ANOTHER CHEAP GIBSON COPY
Did you compare it to other guitars? YES, Which ones? IBANEZ, EPIPHONES, YAMAHA HAVE SIMILAR MODELS Why did you choose this one? PRICE WAS 50% AND THE WOODS AND CONSTRUCTION WERE GEORGE GORODNILSKI. A MASTER LUTHIER WE CAN TRUST.

This is a 2004 model made in China. 24 frets with a solid maple flame top in a cherry sunburst. The standard les paul configuration. 2 humbuckers. 2 vol/ 2 tone 1 3way sel switch. Passive electronics. It's made from solid 3 piece mahogany. Les Paul body design with a sharp pointed horn. It has real nice tuners compared to the standard one's found on the other SX line of guitars. Very Grover like. It has a 13.7 radius neck and a real nice rosewood fretboard with very well done peraloid markers with abalone center inlays. I'll give it a nine because only absoulte perfection can get a 10 right?

Sound : 9
It has ceramic wax potted humbuckers which sound good but I put the Agile 3500 series Serymor Duncan clone pickups in it and now it on par with a real deal Les Paul. I own real pauls so it is a fair comparison. It is absoultely stone quiet. I wish it came with pots that were bigger than the eraser on a pencil but for 189.95 what can you expect? After all you only need to spend 20.00 for 4 new CTS pots and there you go, you have the same deal as what Gibson offers.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The pickups were set fine out of the box. The nut is where SX cheats a bit. If they would just use a real bone or graphite nut and cut it properly they would be blowing Dean, Ibanez, Turser and the likes out of the water. The frets were finished very nicely and there are no buzz issues after a slight tweak of the neck truss rod.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It has nice size strap pegs so you can feel comfortable without strap locks as long as you don't do back flips on stage. I'm getting to old for that anyway. I never play without backup but that's just common sense not an indication of this guitars abilities or quality.

Customer Support : 10
I'll make this easy. Kurt and his company Rondo Music is without peer when it comes to products that deliever the best bang for the buck out there and his customer satisfaction is with out equal anywhere, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! It just doesn't get any better than Rondo Music and the owner and his staff. I have bought over 14 guitars from them and every sale was the best one could ever hope for. Thanks Kurt!

I have been performing for over 45 years steady. I own Hugetone Recording Studios. I am a FCC licensed engineer and I am the executive producer of Hugetone Records. I own way to many guitars to list here. In summary I'll tell you that big name logos don't help you play the music any better than a well setup one of these SX guitars. If an instrument is built well and it's neck is right then the name on the headstock is only a status thing. These SX guitars make excellent work pieces for stage work and you don't have to risk your precious 3000.00 Gibson or 2500.00 Fender custom shop piece out in public. Leave them home safe and sound and use one of these. Put a good set of pickup's and some CTS pots in them and go rock and roll. After that it's just your head, heart, fingers and soul and talent that matter.
