Black LP Standard knock off. Tune-o-matic, stop-bar, keystone gotoh (i think) tuners, stock chrome pickups, whatever a LP is supposed to look like.

Set neck! and of course block inlays. I looked inside and the body is almost hollow inside. I don't know if they did that to get the weight down... but it did something.

All in all, great features for a cheap buy

Sound : 7
Stock pickups are pretty muddy. With some playing around, you can make them do what you want. However, for a 40 dollar buy, i'm happy to throw on some stock Gibsons. When acoustically played... has a peculiar twang to it... but perhaps that's just something that is chalked up to set up. but i think it has to do with the hollowed out body. but don't quote me on that. The guitar is great for the price, with 100 more bucks. i bet i could make this baby compete with a standard Gibson

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got it used...... former owner was an idiot.

Otherwise, the tuners slip too much, that's my only complaint.

Reliability/Durability : 8
it's a tank, finish is a little cheap though and i feel like it's ready to crack.
However, could be just due to abuse from that asswipe owner

It was a cheap find, a great guitar that is cheap enough to frankenstein into something amazing. if you get your hands on one of them, go nuts

Mahogany body with mahogany cap, set mahogany neck, trapezoidal mother of pearl and abalone inlays. Two wax potted covered humbuckers. Neck pickup = vintage voicing, Bridge pick = hotter and more ???modern??? voicing. Bridge = Tune-O-Matic. Tuners are grover clones that do a good job. Pickups are good but rest of electronics are barley adequate for the job. Fat rounded 50's style neck with Jumbo frets.
The people who designed and built this guitar were ether very good or very lucky. The design philosophy seems to be to build the absolutely best sounding guitar possible at a dirt cheap price. I imagine the profit margin was a bit thin and I???d be surprised if anyone made much money out of making and selling these. The wood used in the guitar is top quality mahogany and the build quality is on the whole great, although the final finish is a bit rough. This is seen in the finer details such as the frets. The hardware is the better standard asian type. The pickups are good but a bit muddy when compared to say Gibson or Dimazio???s.

Sound : 9
I was very impressed with the acoustic sound when not plugged it and knew that it would be a lovely guitar once the rest of the guitar was sorted out. The basic wood (guitar minus electronics and hardware ) has a wonderful sound. It has character, is solid and heavy and structurally sound. However, the hardware and pickups aren???t at the same standard. Don???t misunderstand, for the price this guitar is an incredible deal. I have changed the plastic nut to bone and the pickups to Tonerider ???Rock Song??? and replaced the electronics and now it sounds magnificent. The classic les paul warmth, grunt and sustain in bucketloads.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Like I said the build quality is on the whole great, although the final finish is a bit rough. The frets, action and intonation was pretty rough when I bought it, but I got a luther to straiten out the neck and dress the frets and now it plays superb. I'm a heavy gauge string fan which works well with the jumbo frets. Light strings on jumbo frets will be easily pulled out of tune when you press the strings down.

Reliability/Durability : 6
Solidly built. Hardware is good enough to get by,. Finish is thick and will last. The electronics are likey to be the first thing to let you down as they are the weakest link. With electronics replaced the reliability will go up to a "9" as they rest of he guitar is reliable. Another point is the neck on this guitar is somewhat shorter that a gibson neck and so isn't as liable to break as gibson necks commonly do.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No opinion.

Overall Rating : 9
This guitar will sound much better than other cheap guitars out of the box as the basic guitar is very good and the pickups are also good. However if you are prepared to change the pickups, the nut and the electronics and have the frets dressed you will have for yourself as great guitar that will sound as good as a good Gibson.

Everything said about the features (my model is honeyburst), I got it new and I added sperzel locking tuners (found 'em cheap so...) I solved the only thing that bothered me on this guitar.
In the last few months, it's my main guitar on the gigs! Period!
I'm giving it a 10 only because for the money, it gives everything I expected and SO much more!

Sound : 10
Pickups do sound a little vintage like, but I started to like it.
I play in a cover-pay-the-rent-band (from jazz to soul to pop to funk to rock), and it plays great for all those styles.
My setup is Vox V-847 wah-wah - Ibanez ds7 - Ibanez de7 - Dean Markley k-75(with a reverb and chanell switches) . Very simple and it gets the job done pretty well.
Again I'm giving it a 10 because I thought I'll have to change the pickups pronto - but it sounds great out of the box (again - for the money).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up was bad - but it's fine now that I set it the way I like it.
Not much to add here...

Reliability/Durability : 10
My main guitar on the gigs - I think that's enough.
Oh yeah - I did put strap loks on it (of course)...

Customer Support : No Opinion
Wouldn't know...

Overall Rating : 10
Playing more than 15 years, a lot of gear bla, bla, bla ...
I will buy another one :-)) enough said?
I think for the money - you can't go wrong.
Try it and listen for your self (now if you'll excuse me - I have to go play it - I have a gig in a few hours - can't wait to blast it AGAIN!)

Ok, this particular Les paul copy is model number SLPSSHB, which I guess is what they call it for the New Zealand market. The weight alone(very heavy) told me this could be accurate wood and a check on the NZ distributor website confirmed it uses mahogany with a maple cap. No flame, which I like because it's not trying to be like every other wannabe copy and it also means it's not likely to be a veneer. Honeyburst finish. I see a lot of raves about the necks on SX guitars and this was no different - FAT 50's style neck, with jumbo frets(well finished), it feels great. The 13.7" radius, oddly enough doesn't bother me - and I normally prefer a 7.25" - maybe the flatter radius just suits the Les Paul style. The tuners are your generic import type, a bit sharp on the edges but they seem to hold tuning ok. Possibly upgrade these in the future. Not sure whether the pickups are ceramic or not - you kind of expect them to be on these cheaper guitars but more on that later. The pots are the cheap mini pots you would expect although they work fine. I've put a push-pull pot in the neck tone control for phase reversal. The headstock shape is larger and a different shape than a gibbo, I guess for copyright reasons. Considering the use of mahogany, maple and the neck all of which make it a very accurate copy at this price, I'd have to give a 10 - which I don't normally like to do, but remember - this about 1/8th the price of a Gibbo! But nothing's perfect so a 9 it is.

Sound : 10
I've been playing this through a Vox ADVT120 with a G2D creamtone and a Foxrox CC2 and also played it through my Line6 Flextone II(which is now a back up/practice amp that sits in my room). I'm a blues and country player mostly but currently just doin the cover band, pay-the-rent thing.

Here's the biggest surprise - it sounds fantastic - seriously! Big, full, blossoming bottom end - which is often missing in cheap copies, sweet top end and sustains incredibly well. It sounds like a GOOD Les Paul basically. Pickups are actually quite low output, which I like and it's what you would find in vintage models anyway, must measure them one day... I find it hard to believe the pickups would be alnico at this price, but they certainly don't sound like ceramic - the top end is too sweet. I've never gotten along with lesters in the past cos it was so hard to find one with the mojo, but this one has it. Sweet blues tones, a little polite for modern rock, perhaps but for classic rock tones this has it in spades. The low output allows it to work well with clean tones although of course it loves to be cranked a little. The push-pull pot gets me some faux Greeny tones. The pickups are ever so slighly microphonic but I can stand in front of my amp cranked with no squeal! I've been gigging with it extensively over the last month or so and it continues to impress. I'm a shocker for modding guitars and selling them later, but this is a keeper for sure. I may have gotten lucky, I don't know, but for what this guitar is and regardless of the price it deserves a good score. Dammit, I'm giving her a 10!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
It wasn't set up at all! Guitar stores down here are terrible for not setting guitars up - even the high end models. The guitars turn up from wherever they came from with the truss rod loosened for travel and left that way! It had way too much relief with the stock 10's on it, so when I put 11's on, it took a bit of tweaking to get it sitting right. That's not the manufacturers fault though. The frets were extremely well dressed - no cheese grater fret ends here. The intonation didn't take too much work. If there's anything to nit pick about, the binding isn't perfect, but you have to get up close to notice and it doesn't affect the actual function of the guitar so it doesn't bother me at all. If this was a rating of the store setup it would be a 1 or 2 but this a rating of the guitar, not the store, so an 8.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Yep, this guitar gigs well. I've had it for a month and played about 3 gigs a week with no problems whatsoever. Haven't even broken a string which I usually do with tuneomatic bridges. It's a solid piece of work. I'm tempted, of course, to upgrade the hardware and see if it makes any improvement but I really don't see any need to - if it works don't fix it! Having said that, I'd love to try some GFS vintage '59 pickups out of sheer curiousity to see how they compare. Maybe in the future.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea here.

Overall Rating : 10
This part always seems like a wank, but here goes. Been playing 25 years and owned enough gear over the years to fill a small music store. Had Fenders(including a '64 strat, which a sad story), PRS, fender amps, boogie, vintage Marshall etc etc. I guess the point here is I've had enough experience with high end gear to make a good judgement on this gat. If it were stolen I'd look around for another, not sure if I'd find one the same or not. This cheap little SX is a very good guitar - period. It plays very well, sounds like a good example of the real deal and even looks nice - except for the tacky dots around the SX logo on the headstock! Now we all know guitar players who are total brand snobs (which I'm guessing YOU are not, or you wouldn't be reading up on an SX!), in fact MOST players are and think a guitar has to have a high price tag and "made in the USA" to be a good instrument. That's fine by me - let them spend oodles of their hard earned cash if it makes them think they'll play better or feel better endowed because of it! The fact is many of the asian companies are producing good instruments nowadays. I remember when "made in Japan" meant something was inferior and Tokai strats and les pauls were cheap - look at the praise and cost now. It's taken me a LONG time to find a Les Paul style guitar that I've actually liked - I'll admit I'm normally a strat or tele guy for that reason. I'm impressed enough to look at one of their 335 copies next. Overall this guitar deserves no less than a 10 - take that Gibson!

Sold mine, I liked this guitar, but simply too damn heavy at 9 lbs.+. Essentially, a Gibson Les Paul with cheaper quality materials and better overall quality control for 1/15th the cost of a Gibson.

Any questions?

Sound : 9
Breaks-up and muddies a little too early. Somewhat microphonic.

That said, if sounded real good. Frankly, it sounded much better than my Gibson Classic LP, but go ahead and believe what you will.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Very good, no negatives. A very playable guitar for every level player. Easily took a new set-up and intoned perfectly.

Considering the entire guitar costs less than the plastics on a Gibson LP, or something close...it's hard to give a relative rating.

Enough to say, for the price the quality is simple great.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Hard to say. I would not gig it without a backup, but no issues I could mention.

Customer Support : 10
Yes, Rondo Music is helpful and friendly.

Overall Rating : 10
It means supporting the whole China import scene, I guess that's an issue for some. For me, I just couldn't handle the weight for longer than a few songs, but I'm not a young guy.

If you want the LP experience but can't or won't drop a grand or two on a Gibson the SX (or Agile) is the way to go - period. Forget about Epiphone of the MIJ alternatives. "Fantasic value" is an understatement.

This guitar is ridiculous in terms of bang for buck. It's set neck, has single ply binding around body/neck, sorta off white, together with a matching pickguard giving it a bit of a vintage vibe. Nicely done cherry sunburst finish, the only thing i could ask for would be a flamed top to boot. However, since this iS undeniably a budget guitar, a few VERY minor issues exist with the finish etc, but they're negligible. Hardware is chrome, chrome covered pickups, trapezoid fret markers with tulip style tuners which hold tune very well! the rest is standard les paul setup. Factory setup was not very great, but probably the same as an Epiphone LP standard ahha. Although mine came setup by a killer tech and now it kills. A 9 for this considering the features:price ratio.

Sound : 8
the reason why i bought this guitar was, i've always longed to have a Slash-ish guitar but never had the cash. This guitar is the SHIT!! For such a cheap guitar the pickups aren't all that bad. I ran it through a Line 6 POD 2.0 and it got me the full on mids, treble rolled back solo tone i favour easily. distorted for rhythm, it's good but not as defined as it could be... hell go buy a Seymour Duncan for this guitar, probably costs more than the guitar itself. Sound is fat, clean tone is very nice, sustains for years. In fact it's so nice to hear a rEAL clean tone again, it's abso-fuckin-lutely impossible to get clean from my BC Rich NJ Mockingbird... too high output. these pickups are medium output and nice.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Factory setup was quite standard, like an Epiphone, but after it was setup by a pro, action was killer. Electronics were all okay, the nut was replaced to fit a better one. everything else was okay, slight flaws in the body binding and one small blotch on the body finish.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Everything seems solid. This may even replace my BC Rich NJ Mockingbird as my main guitar.

Yea, I have this guitar. Probably the best guitar value in the entire world, no crap. Standard right hand set-up black Les Paul. Neck is the nicer chunkier LP profile, no slim taper. M/M wood & set neck. Not much more to say. I've modded mine to taste, it's now a serious players guitar & I've probably got no more than $300 invested total.

Sound : 10
The stock pickups as slightly microphonic, but I like that. Will go OD very easily. Great pups for the Les Paul thing at this price point. No, they're not '60s PAFs or '57 Classics, but one of those pickups easily cost more than this entire guitar, and it doesn't make you a better player - get real.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It's finish is not as nice as a $2000+ Gibson. It's not the fit and the design, but obviously it didn't get multiple coats, post sanded, 3D mirror finish. It's all good, but not great. That said, most people would never see the difference.

Former pro player, access to gear is a non-issue. Bottom-line, you put this next to a real LP Classic Reissue, money aside, I take this SX guitar over the Gibson. It is a very playable package, solid guitar, insane price. No wonder you can't find them anymore.

This guitar was made in China 2003. 22 Frets, pearloid markers, medium wide frets. 2 volume, 2 tone controls. 2 humbucker pickups. Looks exactly like a Gibson 57 Black Standard, complete with white pick guard and white rings around the pickups. The control knobs are gold plastic. Wide neck. But, not too wide. Heavy like a paul should be,but not overly so. Silver generic tuners. Rosewood fret board and very classy well done shiny gloss black color. I think the body is mahogany, but not sure. Probably does not have maple top. But who cares, sounds fantasic and is made really well! For 99.00 on ebay its a steal!!!! This is a lefty guitar! Most guitar companies like Gibson charge a higher dollar upcharge for lefty than what this guitar cost delivered to my door!! The best value on ebay for a surprisingly fine guitar! Same features as a Paul where of course less is more. At a fraction of the cost of the real deal!

Sound : 10
I love this guitar. I cannot tell you how suprised and happy I was to see what high quality this thing is! Humbuckers are quiet and have a full range of lp sounds. Jazzy and blue sustains, or full out rock. I dont used effects, just a blues jr.amp. I fiqured I would have to change out the pickups, but I was wrong. They are fine. I play slide and it has that liquid sustain that my slide loves. Strings need to be replaced. Makes the guitar come alive. Cheap strings save the company $. Thats given. Actio was a little high, but I ended up leaving it that way, because it is easier to play slide with the higher action. Strengthens my finger, dont you know.
Years ago I had a lefty EpiPhone Lp. I didnt like it at all. It had no character and I hated the neck. I have a 72 Gibson sg that I love, and I dont think epiphones are anything in feel and character to their big brother the Gibson Paul. This SX is its real brother.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Like I said, action was a little high. But I have gotten used to it.
And my slide playing is cleaner by keeping it slightly high. Fit and finish is fantastic! My Gibson SG New frm the factory had overrun on the white part of the neck from the cherry stain. I think they call it orange peel. I was always disappointed in the Gibson's finish. Intonation is right on, out of the box. I was a little worried about that, but it is fine. Frets r even and smooth. Tuners are nothing fancy but do the job nicely. The only thing that might need attention in the future, is the volume and tone pots are very easily
turned. I think a small breeze might change them. They are quiet and smooth, but they dont feel solid, or right. Kind of loose. The pots themselves are cheap, and may need replacing in the future. They just feel cheap when you turn them. But, they work fine for now.
The guitars gloss finish in black is amazing. How can the chinese make a perfect shiny gloss finish on a guitar that was only 99.00? I dnt know, but they do. The tunamatic bridge is fine and the nut was cut flawlessly. No string buzz anywhere on the neck all the way down to the 22 fret. Like I said a beautiful guitar in every way! I would have paid $450.00 for it. I give it a 9 because of the weak pots.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I believe this guitar will withstand live playing. I would have a back up. Everything needs a back up, just in case. Hardware is fine. And I believe will hold up. Strap buttons are a little oversize which is good. After a year of so, we will see about the pots under the volume and tone knobs. (but this is no big or expensive deal to replace) It seems be as solid as my Gibson.

Customer Support : 10
Rondo Music is great to work with!!! Questions were answered before I ordered this guitar and were answered promptly. Very nice folk.
Thanks Rondo Music via ebay. They are having this huge sale of lefty
pauls on ebay right now. Check them out.! Dont know about the warr.
for 99.00 who cares? Guitar arrived quickly, double boxed and perfect! What more can u ask for? I wouldn't mind having the cherry sunburst too!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 32 years. If it was lost or stolen, u bet, I would get another one! I love it because it feels right. I love the fat neck, and that is strange cause I usually prefer thinner necks. But I love this guitar. It looks almost exactly like a black 57 Gibson lp standard. Its amazing! I recommend you check Rondo out. Try to buy a used or new Lefty anywhere of any quality anywhere for 99.99!!! It cannot be done. Guitarist on a budget your love this guitar! People who have lots of money...impress your friends and buy bunch. Why spend 2,000 plus dollars on a Gibson, when this one is so very close!!!!
Over the years Ive owned Gibsons, Ibanez, Taylor,Cort, Jay Tursers, Carvin and many others. This guitar is a STEAL for the money! GEt you one, you will have fun!
