Here's a cut and paste from their website to show features...

The guitar features a Stop tail bridge with six adjustable saddles which improves sustain over similar models, such as a typical Fender Strat. The guitar also features a Truss rod adjustable Maple neck with Rosewood reinforcement for extra stability, Rosewood fretboard, 21 jumbo frets, Three-ply pickguard (White, Black, White), and DAddario strings are installed at the factory. Specs: Actual weight is only 8.5 lbs. Overall length is 39" including the strap button. Width at the widest point is 13". Width of the neck at the nut: 1 5/8"; at the 22st fret: 2 1/8" Body thickness is 1 3/4". Scale length is 25.5" Neck radius: 13.7" (350mm)

I gave it a 9 because it is what I wanted. No surprises of disappointments in terms of features.

Sound : 10
The standard strat sound. Ok for surf, rock, blues. All around playing. NO rickenbacker sound. No humbucker sounds. I think it could do Hendrix... if the player had the skill set. Not my style, so i really cannot say

Plenty good for $99.

Remember, it's only $99.

I don't think I could have done much better for under $500, IMO.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Body and neck absolutely beautiful and without a flaw. The frets, IMO, needed polished (I did this). I had to replace the nut to play it. The neck relief was ok. I lowered the bridge and changed strings to Elixir Light-Heavy .010-.052. The action isn't right for a speed-demon metal player, but right on for my style. Strong bass with my thumb and grabbing chords and melody with three fingers.

I have not lifted the pick guard to inspect the routing. I don't care.

If you bought one of these for your kid, understand that a setup (maybe$40) would be needed for most any guitar you buy these days.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
The body and neck are real solid and sturdy. The hardware is of a less costly sort. If I gigged for a living, I'd upgrade hardware. For a student, or hobby player, or a backup for a semi-pro, I'd say it is good enough.

Only time will tell. If it fails, I'll make an entry on this website.

Customer Support : 10
When I opened the package, I couldn't play it because the nut had crumbled at the low E string. I emailed Kurt at Rondo music to see if there were any options besides the Amazon return policy. He FedEx'd me a plastic nut with an apology for the inconvenience. I asked a couple of simple set-up and "is the old nut glued in?" questions and got good answers. I'd purchase from Rondo again.

Incredibly kind and helpful, especially considering this is only a $100 purchase, and my expectations about the guitar were not that high to begin with. I was expecting to have to return it even as I was deciding to make the purchase. Was I ever POSITIVELY surprised.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been a serious hobbyist with guitar for 39 years. My experience is mainly with classical and steel string fingerstyle. I used to own/play a '64 Gretch Country Gentleman. Electrics include an Aria Pro CS-400, a 1986 Aria Pro Knight Warrior, a 1987 Carvin SH-225. I play thru a Carvin X-60 combo (tube) amp. No effects. Fingerstyle mainly, lots of chord melody. I plan to use the SX for classic 50's/60's rock stuff.

After finishing my setup of the SX, I think I'll not have to do any further mods. I'm entirely satisfied with it as it is now. I had expected to drop in a pre-wired pick guard/pickup module to make it playable, but I think it is ok the way it is. It's WAY better than what I used to see in music stores as beginner/intermediate level instruments. It Ain't a real American Fender, but it's only a hundred bucks.

I like the reverse snobbery appeal. I do have a $3500 acoustic, and have been mildly embarrased at being the guy with the best guitar, but only mediocre chops.

The next time some parent asks me what kind of starter guitar to get their son or daughter, I'll recommend an SX thru this dealer.
