Features : 9

Sound : 10
I play mostly Rock and Metal, but I also do a bit of blues (cameo solos and the like).

I've used this guitar through a plethora of amps (marshall JCM 900 & TSL, Randall RH100, laney TF700 & Tony Iommi Sig, Ashtons and many others) as well as using t to record straight through Pod and V-Amps.

So far (I've had this guitar since early 2002) the only problem I've had was that the volume pot developed a bit of a crackle noise when doing swells, but some contact cleaner fixed that up without much hassle.

This guitar is an excellent guitar for people who want a wide range of good sounds, it performs very well from clean through to full blown death metal distortion, and holds a lot of clarity and sustain, even with the tremolo.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory set-up did me very well, nice action, good intonation etc. All i did was adjust the pickup a little to suit my personal preference (there wasn't really anything wrong with it I just like them set a certain way). I didn't (and still can't) find any problems with the finish or hardware on this guitar (except of course the afore-mentioned volume crackle)

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've used this guitar at many gigs but it is now retired to studio use and bedroom playing. I've found that it doesn't look quite as metal as some of my other guitars and doesn't fit in AS well with the image of my current band. BUT it was great to play live and I do use it for a lot of other stuff.

I never used the original strap buttons as I had strap locks fitted before I bought this guitar.

The finish on this guitar is still as good as the day I bought it.

I've been playing around 12 years now, I own a lot of other guitars and amps, but this is stil one of my "most played" guitars. If it were stolen i think I'd buy a green one instead of another purple, although the purple one is very cool. I think it's a great all-rounder and a quality instrument.

My guitar is a pretty much a stock Samick GB Design Ultramatic TEG with a Duncan Invader in the bridge position and new pots. The factory pots went about a year ago. When I had the Invader pickup installed, we fired up the tube amp, plugged in, and didn't get the output of the guitar that we expected. After investigating a little, we determined that the pots were crap. Put new pots in and the rest is history.

Sound : 9
The sound is great. I actually played a Gibson Les Paul stocked with 490T and 490R (I think) and the tone from my Samick with the Invader in the bridge and the stock Duncan design in the neck position kills the Gibson sound. The band I am in is definately on the heavy side, so I added the Invader for a more suiting sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The feel, fit, and finish of the Ultramatic is tops. The finish is fantastic. Actually, I a bit surprised as to how well my Samick still looks. I take care of my gear really well, but when it comes time to play a live show, I put my guitar through hell. So far the finish on my axe is just about perfect. Also, the weight of the guitar wonderful. A lightweight guitar that has good sustain and tone.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Durability so far is good. I take it to gigs without a backup. That is how much faith I have in my Samick. Strap buttons are solid. The finish is solid. A definate dependable guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with Samick so far. When the pots started to go, I just had a local shop put new ones in.

Just spoke with the guys at the store where I bought my Samick and they advised that they no longer carry Samick's because of issues with Samick's warranty/customer service dept. Maybe Samick was giving the store the run around on defective guitars, amps, etc. Not sure, but not a good sign when stores don't want to carry a particular line anymore.

Overall Rating : 10
Originally I played Gibson, now I am strictly Samick. I just ordered an acoustic/electric from Samick about a week ago. Played one at a local store and it just felt right.

Only gripe, factory pots are poor and sometimes, actually it is pretty rare, the input jack doesn't cooperate. But for the price, finish, sound, etc of the guitar you can't beat it. I definately recommend it.

Hi my name is Daniel and i've bean playing for about 5 year's now. Don't quickly pass judgement on me because i'm young (12). I play in pubs with my band,we play metal, punk and rock .Anyway I was in my local music store when i saw somthing that shocked me; there was mabye the most beautiful guitar staring at me. I thought it was a PAUL,REED SMITH, but to my astonishment it was a GREG,BENNETT , ULTRAMATIC.

Sound : 10
I knew i just had to try one out , so i picked it up and plugged it into a LANEY 30w tube amp and ooooooooooooooooooooo ' YEAH , it sounded fantastic, but then I thought " mabye it's just the amp" so I went and picked up an IBANEZ AX70 and plugged it into the same amp and well................( no offence IBANEZ but it sounded crap compared to GREG BENNETT ) , it sounded very srcatchy and not versitile like the " G.B. " virtually the GREG BENNETT , has a warm yet " rocking the house down sound " .

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
THE action on this ax is great, it's pretty low ( could be a bit lower)but good enuogh for me . THE neck was just right not too thin , not too fat , ( kind of like the story of " goldylox and the three bears") JUUUUUUSSST right.THE FINISH: It was the best finish i have ever seen : gorgeous , sofisticated and professional ( everything i want in a girl)thats why i feel it is my duty to give it 10 out of 10.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion

Th 2023 is a korean made PRS copy with 2 Duncan designed humbuckers, Grover tuners, a Wilkinson tremolo bridge and a beautiful quilted arch top. The body is alder and it has a 22 fret rosewood neck.

Sound : 8
I play lead in a cover rock band and this thing is perfect. I play it through a Pod ran into a Peavey amp and it has a great variety of sounds although I find it a bit harsh at full volume, if you back off just slightly it warms beautifully. If the input where fixed it could be incredibly clean and noisless, but the input jack sucks.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This guitar is the most gorgeous guitar I have ever seen (short of a PRS Dragon). It was flawless to look at from the begining and after 6 months of playing it still is. Nothing was done from the dealer for setup but the action was great. I found no flaws in this guitar UNTIL I had played it for about 2 weeks then just like all the other Samicks I read reviews about here, I started having problems with the input jack. It plays hell when your on-stage and it starts crackling or cuts out entirely. No amount of cleaning helps. This is the only problem I've had with this guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Everything about this guitar is quality with the exception of the input and for live playing this is a major problem. I always take a spare on stage with me but when the input is replaced I would take this solo on a job if I had too!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have'nt dealt with them and probably won't as I plan on having a luthier replace all the electronics with known quality parts by my own choice.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 30 years now and this is my favorite guitar by far. I plan on making some changes in it though to suit myself. I will replace the electronics with swithcraft parts, and put new pickups in it to suit my ears although the ones it has are adequite for most playing. I was using 2 stratocasters live when one night the electronics went dead in my main guitar, I picked up my spare and after 1 song it died as well!! The next night a friend loaned me his PRS and I had just purchased the Samick, I played both and prefered the Samick hands down, didn't touch the PRS after 1 song. I will be buying another for a spare and making the same changes. I can't give it a 10 because of the electronics but even after paying for the upgrades this will be a solid 10 for the price!!
