my band tends to play alot of different styles it does ok for the mellower stuff like lynyrd skynyrd. It does great for blues and jazz. but when we turn to the heavy metal stuff i have to tune it down a good 2 whole steps just to make it sound heavy enough. Im usining it on a crate 60 watt and a peavey 100 watt the only effect ive ever tried is reverb and it sounds pretty good. If you turn the gain way up you can get a great rock sound but if you hold the notes too long it will turn into a sustaining feedback hum that makes me have to reset everything just to make it stop. on full gain it sounds like nirvana and on 5 gain it sounds like lynyrd skynyrd so it varries. I like the look of it and it does good on solo stuff, sometimes on rhythm strumming the notes can get a little mixed up due to the fact that there are no humbuckers.

at the factory the action was set so high i could stick my hand under the strings. The pickups are fine and on a side note they collect the most dust of any guitar i have! The guitar had no flaws what so ever.

The guitar can withstand live playing as long as your not bouncing around otherwise the feed back will make its move. the hard ware is very strong and im confident that it will last. the finish is great i can see myself in it!strap buttons are fine. I will depend on in when ever i have a concert. I tend not to use backups beacause it takes to long to get adjusted to the new guitar,if some thing goes wrong i just let the drummer do a solo for as long as it takes for me to fix the problem!

I compared it to nirvana beacause i liked there sound. i wish it had a humbucker.

This guitar was made in Korea(I don't know if I should be happy that it's made in Korea. Because Samick is a Korean company ^.^;)
It has 24 frets on rosewood fingerboard with an alder neck a little thinner than most guitars, of course Ibanez makes the thinnest neck.
It's body is made of an exotic wood it is traspanent and it shines.
It's a such a beautiful body with all gold hardwears!!
Personally, this guitar is the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen!
except for PRS guitars but I could never afford that.
It has S/S/H, 5-way p/u switch and 3 knobs, one for volume, one for neck p/u, one for middle p/u. It doesn't have a tone knob for bridge p/u.
And, single coil p/u's are actually stacked humbuckers
P/u's are all duncan designed which is NOT
exactly seymor dancan quality.
It has a floyd rose locking tremolo with grover tuners
Sound

I think the stacked humbuckers on neck and middle sounded pretty good so I decided not to change the p/u for now. But the bridge p/u was not very impressive compared to my other guitar. So I changed it with DIMARZIO TONE ZONE p/u and it now sounds very impressive
I play through Marshall valvestate 100r amp with boss pedals and digitech effects and it sounds very nice playing metal, hard rock, and blues.

I haven't gigged with it yet but I'm sure it will be dependable
and the previous owner had played for about 3 years and hard wear wasn't rusty or anything, just a little rusty on tremolo bar.
I played for a long time and it stayed in tune, too

When I saw the beautiful wood guitar, I just fell in love with it! then I looked at the head stock it said "SAMICK"
man! was I disappointed!!
Still, I asked for the price and the owner said $200. I was thinking, "wow that is so cheap! is that b/c of the company or maybe the guitar has some defects?
But nothing was wrong with it and it sounded ok so I thought, "I think I'll just buy this as a guitar in a half step down tuning. b/c I have a guitar with floyd rose and I'm too lazy to change into diffrent tunings.
Although it was a "SAMICK" I bought it b/c it was such a good deal.
I brought it home, thinking if I made a mistake. I couldn't stop thinking the fact it was a "SAMICK guitar" although it had all the features I wanted and a beautiful look. (wish it said Gibson on the head stock and I also thought of putting a gibson sticker on it. ^.^;)
But as time goes by I realized the guitar was amazing, and after I changed the bridge p/u with dimarzio oh man! I am now proud to say it IS a SAMICK guitar.

I have no idea of the year, but it was made in Korea... It has a beatiful laminated top with 3 gold single coil lipstick pickups, 2 volume, 5 way selector. I have no idea what the body is made of, but it is a pretty heavy guitar. The flamed top with the dark purple sunburst is great... easily the best looking guitar I've seen. The body style is somewhat like a tele, and somewhat like a strat.. with the pickups arranged strat style. I't has something like a strat style tailpeice but will bend higher a bit if set correctly.. I have the springs tight because I hate dealing with the floating bridge. I give it a 10.. its a great guitar
Sound
:

The guitar sounds wonderful for blues and lighter rock.. good warm tones, with great lead sounds even with the single coil. I have no idea about the heavier end because I have an old tube amp with little distortion.. From how ive played it.. I give it a 10.. beatiful sound.

I bought it used but the action was set pretty low when I got it.. I like it higher so I moved it up. The body paint is beatiful, and everything is very very solid.. plays and looks great. Seems like I could set the action pretty low without fret buzz. give it a 9

Im sure it'll withstand just about whatever I put it thru.. pickups are pretty solid.. but then again they're lipstick pickups.. couldn't hurt em if I wanted to. solid guitar. and I've used it live without a backup a few times.. only once a string didn't make it. heh. Only problem I have here is the gold hardware.. It rubs off over time.. and be careful what cleaning product you use.. also they oxidize pretty easily.. because of this I give it a 7, otherwise it would be a 10

I've been playing for 6 years.. I've had it for about a year and its easily the best guitar ive owned.. I've had a martin electric.. (yes they did make an electric.. a couple different models) and an Ibanez RG570. The Ibanez wins for the heavy sound but it had and Emg active and a DiMarzio humbucker. I would compare the samick to an american strat. high quality and sound. Samick makes really nice guitars... don't let anyone tell you otherwise

The guitar is a 1997 Korean-made strat model counting 24 frets. It is a neck-thru-body roundly shaped body (not arch top though). Wood for the neck (trhu body) is alder. The body wings are made of some exotic wood type I can currently not recall the name of. However, it is not a type of wood that is used often.
Pickup configuration is s/s/h, However, the single coils are stacked buckers. All pickups were originally Seymour Duncans. Bridge pickup (sh-4) didn't have enough 'balls' to really get power out of the guitar, so I had it replaced by a PRS treble humbucker. Don't know the model of the stacked humbuckers. Controls are 5-way switch, single coil/humbucker switch for bridge pickup. 2 knobs: volume and tone pot. Electronics are passive.
The finish is transparent (non-coloured) so the beautiful wood can be seen. The guitar was originally equiped with gold-plated strings. Together with the gold-plated hardware this looks very very very cool.
The bridge is a floyd rose type. Due to the neck-thru-body construction this guitar has tons of sustain (despite of the floyd rose bridge). Don't know the tuner type. Neck is medium thickness (strat) with a rosewood fingerboard and pearl inlay dots.

My style is hard rock, metal, punk, etc. with blues influences. I play anything and can make great use of this guitar's versatility. The guitar is not noisy. I can really create more sound with this one guitar than I can do with my other 3 guitars (Jackson Dinky XL, Ibanez RG570CT, and cheap Fenix Strat).
The sound is rich, full and bright at the same time. My Jackson Dinky XL has some more body in the bass range. This Samick really hits it off when you select either of the stacked humbuckers to play some blues of clean shit. When the distortion is hit... wweeeehhhhaaa, very cool, comes close to a Les Paul in the neck position.
My pre-amp is a Digitech SGS 2112 run through a Marshall 8008 (80W stereo) and a 1960A speaker cabinet.

The action is good. Right from the factory the guitar was really good setup. Pickups needed no adjustment. The top is perfectly bookmatched and rounded of in a very cool way. It's not archtop though. The only drawback was that the bridge was from a very weak material, which caused it to loose grip on the strings. The bridge had to be replaced, but it was within the warranty period.

This guitar is fit for live playing. It is more robust than my Jackson Dinky XL. The finish shows little scratches (after over a year of playing). However, I would never use it on a gig without a backup, i.e. I don't even practice without a backup!! Not that the guitar is bad, but it's just that I like having security.

Warranty lasted one year. Service from retailer was a bit unfriendly, especially when I had to get the bridge replaced. The repair was under warranty so no problem with that.

I've been playing for 7 years now. I own a Jackson Dinky XL, a Fenix Strat (built around to a B-tuned metal monster) and a Ibanez RG570CT. If it were stolen I would buy it again (but have the bridge replaced right away). I love it's natural finish, the shape, the sounds, and the playability. What I hate is that people dislike Samick guitars. They think it's a cheap piece of burning wood. Screw them. I know better.
When I bought this guitar I didn't compare it to a Zion startocaster and I am glad I choose this one. Next thing I will be looking for is a seven string...

The Samick Artist series is basically an Epiphone Les Paul... with all the common variations, Gold Top, Standard... etc... Made in Korea, Samick makes the Epiphone Les Pauls, so, technically, my axe is endorsed by Les himself... Mine's a standard, with the heritage cherry sunburst finish, 22 frets, 24.75" scale, all the standard fittings of a Les Paul. I've never had it set up, it was perfect from the store. I've had it for about 8 months, only played a couple gigs with it, and it's still PERFECT. I did, however, replace the pickups... put in the classic Seymour Duncan combo of a JB and a '59er, and it's great sound only got better. Most people say the Epi LP's have crappy frets, and crappy hardware. My baby stays in tune quite well. I've considered changing the tuners for some Grover Mini's, and getting a detuner for the low E (for the dropped D stuff), and maybe replacing the nut with a custom cut graphite, but since it stays in tune so well, I'll hold off on it... I'd also like to get a schaller bridge and fine tuning tail peice, but again, that can wait...

She sounds like the BIGGEST, PHATTEST axe I've laid my hands on... I run her through and RP-7, with a classic sounding distortion, and she just SINGS!! Again, replacing the pickups REALLY helped here. Very rich and full, gets some great scream and punch from the bridge JB, and the '59 mellows things out. I pretty much leave the volumes and tones on 10...

As aforementioned, the setup was great from the store. Perfect for me, mostly a rhythym player, but I do some leads now and then. It's not too high, not too low. After I installed the pickups, I wired it a little different, the top volume and tone knobs traditionally work for the neck pickup, but I reversed them, so now the selector switch is backwards, but I have no problems hitting it, so I think I'll leave it the way it is. The finish is excellent... the maple tops are matched very well, and have a slight touch of a 'flame' to them.. the back and neck are stained kinda dark, but you can still see the beautiful grain of mahogany.
Reliability/Durability
:

This guitar has taken a beating... I can play heavy, or light as a feather... I'm one of the lucky guitarists that never breaks a string, and I thought when I got this axe, I'd surely break a few... but I still never have. The hardware is great, showing no signs of wear, but I haven't had it all that long. The finish is wonderful, and I don't ever expect it to look any less than it did when I bought it. I have replaced the strap buttons with a Schaller straplock system... I'd use it live, but my cautious nature would make me take a backup.

This is defilitly a worth while investment... picking her up always makes me want to play. I love the shorter scale, it's so easy to get some vibrato and make her sing. I would definitly recommend this axe... I know in Epi's and Korean guitars, you have to be careful, there are a lot of bad apples, but I lucked out and got a jem. Oh, I named her Megan, after my little sister... she's a singer and drama major... her strawberry blonde hair and warm voice are always reminded to me by my guitar. And for the buck... I paid $650, (could have gotten it cheaper, but I was trading) plus the pickups ($140) and a hard case (never buy a guitar without one) one badass axe for about half of what a Gibson would have cost.
