Bought this used in 2006 at Guitar Center after a test drive. I never understood when I read about Schecter how I could get all that for such a low price. After my test drive with it I simply did't care. Tone-pros bridge, Seymore Duncans, Grover tuners, neck-thru guitar with string through body, yada yada, WOW it's what we've all always wanted at a working mans reach.
Sound

I love the JB in the bridge it's very clear when playin the dirty channel with some low end bite that preserves it's clarity. The 59 in the neck doesn't match it's sound to well but still makes it versital in tone not to mention it goes even lower.
The sustain will go for days if your amps up loud enough.(seriously days)
I love it so much I bought the 7 string version in 09/2009 at Guitar Center on clearence for $500. WOW!! I wish they made this one in 26 1/2/" scale also.

Absolute great action with VERY little fret buzz and I got my 10-52 gauge strings almost on top of them.
VERY glossy when clean so watch out for finger prints if you plan on stealing one.
ONE FLAW HERE PAY ATENTION! I noticed they fixed this now with newer models by angling the bridge more. When you try to intonate the G string it will only do it in one position and thats pegged ALL the way back. Other than that small issue cause it does intonate it's freakin perfect.

When it comes to newer rock music out there Schecter has the noose around your neck. Just be thankful thier not advertising and endorsing the hell out of themselves to get you to buy it for more. IN YOUR FACE GIBSON!!! You can suck my *** now that some one is willing to make love to me instead of **** me.
I'll put this Schecter up against ANY Gibson with anything from 3 Days Grace to Breaking Benjamin with a Five Finger Death Punch to thier face. I hate those punk ******* at Gibson for thier over priced name now. Hell the Schecter name even sounds cooler not to mention they make more than a whoppin 3 body styles.

Top notch for the money, and I do mean TOP notch. The only down side is the black pearl inlays can be a bit tough to see while playing leads under stage lights. Red light seems to help a lot for this though so make sure you have one on you if your at a gig.

I've been playing for almost 20 yrs. now and of all the brands and $900-$1800 guitars I've owned this one is proof. You get what you paid for does not always hold true. Don't know how Scheter did it for such a low cost but Fender and Jackson can forget about being my favorites now.

This is one of Schecter's "Diamond Series" guitars which are, as I understand it, manufactured in Korea and assembled in the USA. I am only guessing that that means the wood cutting, gluing, and particularly finishing is accomplished with cheaper labor (no Workman's Comp claims), and no EPA hassles. Again, I am only guessing that the pickups, tuning keys, and wiring are done stateside.
The Blackjack series includes some awesome guitars, particularly for the price, and I'm certain the 006 will be great.

I have played C-1 Blackjacks in local music stores - they do their own advertising. The guitars sustain well, and with the Seymour Duncans like this model has, they have a pure sweet tone. The neck pickup slightly lacks clarity, but that's a matter of taste. I think the sound rivals that of much more expensive guitars. Againg, I am speaking of a C-1 Blackjack.

Here is my gripe, and I will be specific. I ordered a 006 Blacjack from one of the many online sources .... very risky I know, but the local music stores don't carry that particular model. It is (the 006) identical to the C-1 except for a minor difference in shape. Pickups, wood type, frets, switches .... everything else is the same. So I took a chance and ordered online to get the body style I wanted. When I opened the packaging after its much anticipated arrival (today) I found a C-1 Blackjack in a 006 box. The coverplate over the neck adjustment access was loose, and the neck pickup was laying inside the guitar completely detached from the pickup ring. How lame is that? I haven't touched it. It wouldn't be fair to the guy who ultimately owns it after somebody wakes up and does what should have been done before it was ever put in a box. Again, I am not knocking the 006 Blackjack .... I've never seen one in person. If I had wanted a C-1 I could have tried six or seven and picked the one I wanted. I can understand someone putting the wrong label on a box, and then someone packing the carton according to the label, but what about shipping a guitar with the pickup in pieces? My suggestion is that Schecter hire someone to watch the people who are supposed to be watching the quality of product going out the door. Hey, I'll take it one step further .... and this is to anyone ... if you don't like your job and don't intend to do it with excellence, then don't cash your packcheck. I'm not scoring this because it would be an unfair slam on this particular model. I look at the C-1 on my couch and I know I could fix it in 10 minutes and it is tempting. The fretwork and the fingerboard look REAL GOOD (in the box). Why should I fix the guitar I didn't order?

I e-mailed Schecter with a question about the Blackjack Series 12/29/05 at 9:32 PM.
Derek Carlson, the Diamond Series Production Manager responded 1/04/05 4:07 PM.
That's not too bad considering the weekend and holidays.
As for this current issue, I'll go through channels and deal with the entity that got my money first.

I have been playing 35 years. I compared the Blackjack to the Fender Showmaster Series (the Korean made models). Fender has selected different Duncan pickups, and the neck pickup setting is substantially brighter sounding. I wanted an inexpensive HARDTAIL guitar. I still thing the Schecter is a good choice.

Great guitar for the money overall. Kind of a plain black finish but the hardware looks really cool. Just like a black car, keep it clean! One other note is the volume drops noticeably when in the single coil mode. Probably normal for all coil tap guitars but just thought i would throw it out there. I am very happy with this guitar and it sounds and plays awesome. Its very versatile and has a different look to it. I have been playing for 25 years and this is my favorite guitar thus far. Get one!

24 Frets
Neck thru!
Seymour Duncan JB-59!(I dont believe they sell this unless its stockin a guitar!)
Seymour Duncan JB NECK!
Mahogany body with maple neck on a rosewood fretboard.
Grover Tuners!
One volume one tone control 5 way pickup selector (Which are auctually extremely useful and versatile!!!!unlike many guitars)
Tone pros Bridge !
Fat frets.
Dot inlays.
Binding!get it huge upgrade from the lame schecters...only like 50 extra bucks from the cheap shcecters to this!
All this for a korean guitar!!!!!!You bet ur ass....its amazing.

My music style varies. I am in a metal band and it does a decent job howver it is not THAT "metal" you really need to boost it for that. Either with a stomp box or swapping the pickups.
But if you do that you will take away from the versatility of this guitar. It is really amazing for hard rock and amazing for any clean stuff including jazz!If you want metal you could get it but how i told you.
I am using thru a line 6 flextone and versatility is the name of the game! Seriously they are mindblwing!together..for the price.
my favorite pickup setting is bridge for distorted (obviously haha) and the fourth position up ...omg CLEANS!!!!!!!
Schecters have a reputation for being metal guitars and i call this one my versatile goddess.....seriously if you need versatility get this. It sounds so good! I can get vai tones and janes addiction tones and radiohead tones...or anything i can think of.Its jus sooooo cool.
Never noisy!
biggest dislike is the maple neck! it kinda sounds a little too bright for me......but screw it its amazing....
In my opinion the only thing bettter in sound is a prs but price comparision is ridiculous! and this guitar sounds almost as good.
Oh if you want a "signature" sound definetly look someplace else.

Ima be honest here when i got it from the factory i hated it! The action was aweful and the strings popped in 3 days!!!!Plus the bridge had to be adjusted it took a while....but all that has been fixed and it is AMAZING NOW!it cost me only like an extra 10 bucks and some sweat!..ha.
The pickups were perfect and i got it professionally checked and every important aspect of the guitar is flawless.SO im happy.

Ive dropped it a couple of times and crashed it a couple of times but nothing that could break it. Cmon any guitar can break like that. NO dings were made to my surprise.
The hardware was inspected and it is very expected to last me a long time.So was the finish and it is vey dependable.
The strap buttons were pretty solid but i dont wanna take chances and i picked up myself some straplocks! but i do that with all my guitars.
I would gigg without a backup if i didnt have to worry about a string popping or murphys law!!!!!!

I have been playing 3 years but i know alot about gear . I tried all guitars and was disappointed when the clerk showed me this and a prs . I like the prs but didnt wanna pay an arm and a leg so i got this and I am happy as hell!!!!!!!!
I wish the guitar would come with a cool tremolo system...then it would be Amazing. However it would take away from the amazing tonepros bridge.
For the price ANYONE SHOULD RUSH TO GET ONE OF THESE BEAUTIES!!!!NOW!!!!!!
Omg I love it all and I just hate the stupid maple but i can and do live with it.

Damn!! I heard a lot of great reviews about the sound of the Schecters. Now that I am a proud owner of one it is nice. The sustain is great. I play mostly rock/hard rock/metal with a good mix of clean distortion switching. I use it on Mesa boogie dual rect with a couple effects.
The sound is great to my ears. At first it sounded a little twangy but then I lowered the tune a half step and and dropped the low E to C sharp. Wow. Souns perfect. Except now I have a tiny buzz on that string. I can probably set it up to get rid of that.
Only had it 4 days now. My other ax is an Ibanez RG450. I was sick of the floyd rose. This has almost every feature in a guitar I wanted, period. No dislikes yet. Plays great.

I bought it from drum city guitar land. Americas biggest Schecter dealer. Other than the slight buzz I get from down tuning, which I should be able to fix the action is great. Strings are real low and easy to play. Haven't had to mess with the pickups yet so can't give an honest answer.
No flaws that I can see in anyway shape or form. Good times.

How many guitars would you really not trust brand new to gig with. Of course I would trust this. Grover tuners, SD pups, set neck I think this thing will last til the end. Don't know anyone else with a Schecter to know if it will hold up in the long run but why wouldn't it. Strap buttons are good for now. I will and always will be skeptical about those even if there isn't a problem. I would prefer a back up in case of a string break but otherwise I would use it without a backup.

I have been playing about 10 years off and on. I am 25. Playing serious about 3 or 4 of those. I own an Ibanez RG450 a few acoustics, a mesa boogie dual rect. I would buy this guitar again but I like variety. If it were stolen I would cry many times. I sold my dirt bike in part to get this guitar. Then I would cap them with my hollow point 357. I love every single feature. Thats why I bought it. An 800 guitar for 500. Grover tuners, SD pups, the way the strings are lined through the holes, the way the tuners are 3 per side, every single detail of this guitar is awesome. I could have bought anything I wanted. I bought this. I want to give it a 10 but it does all but suck my d!#$ so it doesn't get a 10. I would recomend this guitar to everyone. Nuff said.

Features are well-documented in previous reviews.
The set neck (which feels exactly like a neck-thru body) is VERY comfortable to play in the upper register. In the lower register the radius flattens out to such a degree as to be just ever so slightly more encumbering - but the overall feel of the neck is very good. Nice medium width, although I usually prefer non-glossed necks that are made of mahogany as opposed to maple. The fingerboard is a very nice dark rosewood - the fret markers are of some dark abalone, mother-of-pearl type material that is quite opalescent when peered upon up-close but dark and barely visible from afar. I hate fret markers generally, but these are pretty.
The body style is interesting, carved top with the front body-ends cut perpendicular to the body. The string-thru body seems to help in giving this guitar above-average sustain, but can be quite annoying when trying to thread a bent string through.
Stringing this guitar can be a little time consuming.
The tuners are nice, smooth action and tight feel (although they rattle when not wound with strings - I don't know if this is common). I'm actually planning on replacing the tuners, good as they are, with sperzel locking tuners.
Note - this guitar does not come with case or gig bag.
Sound
:

My style, which vacillates between intermediate level jazz and indie rock, calls for thicker tones with strong clarity, warmth, and punch. I have a heavy attack and stress fast and articulate alternate picking. I'm having this guitar set-up on as I write this, changing the action, neck pick-up, and retrofitting with the Buzz Feiten Tuning System - afterwards, I expect the guitar will deliver this in spades (ah ha! playing card reference!). Even preceeding this setup, the action and feel was among the best I've experienced FOR a factory setup.
I use the 006 with a Fen. Twin Rev. R. and a Roland MicroCube (an absolute blast to play through) with a Keely-modded Sparkle Drive and a Fulltone Fulldrive II.
It's not particularly noisy even through high gain levels. Stock - it's a bright guitar, although I'm having the neck pickup replaced with an SD Jazz and the action heightened. The SD JB is one of the best bridge humbuckers I've heard, very clear and crunchy with a great frequency balance.
The 59' is also good, however somewhat thin for my tastes, but I'm also a hard picker. The Jazz responds well to my attack.
There is a pretty diverse range of sounds that this guitar can produce - although I generally only play in either neck or bridge position. I stress dynamics and touch a lot and in this repect the guitar is excellent. There's a warm transparency that allows your phrasing to come through very nicely.
Overall - a very good tone that lies somewhere between a Les Paul and a Strat. An EXCELLENT tone for the price.

I would imagine that for the majority of people likely to buy a Schecter Blackjack that the factory set-up would be perfect. The pickups were adjusted well and everything seems tight.
However, I'm setting the guitar with D'Addario 11's with a higher action and the BFTS and then eventually the locking tuners. I'm fixing to transform this guitar into the perfect working-musician's guitar for me.
Reliability/Durability
:

Believe it or not, I played a gig with this guitar the day I bought it without any adjustment. Literally picked it off the wall and then played it at an important show for the band.
The guitarists in the other bands commented on the hefty size of my balls, but I assure you, my balls are only medium sized. The confidence came from how well this guitar has been built. The hardware (grover tuners, tone-pro bridge, SD PU's) is top notch especially for the price.
I would use this on a gig without a backup if forced, but regardless of how reliable your guitar may be... shit happens y'know?

I've been playing intermittently for over twelve years I believe. I also own a 1995 Gibson ES-335, a Martin SPD-16TR, and an Ibanez RG 550. If it were stolen and lost I would definitely buy it again.
The guitar is just extremely well made for the price. The tones are excellent and the feel is superlative. The things that I wished it had are the things that I'm going to upgrade it with, but these things are by no means necessary in order to get superb enjoyment from this guitar.
I chose this guitar because I was looking for a workhorse guitar for a relatively inexpensive price and no other guitar I found complimented me as well. For the price, this guitar is one the best values I've seen in a long time.

came factory set up with GHS 10s. Plays slick. Neck radius is 14 so it is a rather flat fret board compared to my MIA strat (radius 9.5) and a little less comfortable (edges are smooth with no catch) but it's very fast and accurate similar to a Les Paul action but with a 25.5 inch scale as opposed to the Les Paul 24.75 inch scale, another reasons why I bought this guitar. The body style is a modified hard edge strat style with beautiful black finish and binding. The blackened metal, black pearl position markers, and the string through body make this guitar gorgeous. If this guitar was a woman, I'd marry her. The ultra access set neck really works, I can play the top 24 fret with no finger gymnastics. The only problem with this guitar is that it has sharp edges like Les Pauls and acoustic guitars. After playing my right arm has a "dig" marks from the binding. I like the smooth rounded Strat edges that don't dig. I would give it a 10 but this digging really bothers me.

Solid as a rock. I gig with this as a solo guitar if I could only afford one guitar. I only use multiple guitars for the different sound and to match the playing style for the song I doing. I've gig with one guitar many times. Maybe a string break? My question is what type of "crap" guitars are you guys playing that you need a back up guitar? What happens, does you neck fall off or something? I can see having back up cables and speaker cables and possibly amps (I've blown an amp and a PA system prior to show before). If you really had a true guitar failure that required a back of guitar, please email me and tell me your story.

I've contacted to the company multiple times for specs prior buying the guitar and after buying the guitar to get base set up specs, neck adjustment specs, etc.,. I like to customize my guitar to my desires. The guitar does not come with a manual. Customer serviice was fantastic, alway helpful and pleasant to deal with (all communications were completed via Email). This is a major contrast to my experience with the Fender company who are a bunch of worthless scum, it's a good thing that their product is so good.

I've been playing for 20+ years. I've played every crap guitar out there. Never buy a guitar that sells for less than $500, even if it's used. You get what you pay for. This guitar is worth the $500 range. I'd place it a little higher if was just a little slicker and more refined. It's been compared to a "poor man's" PRS. I think that it's an excellent buy (the prices on some of the PRS are amazing) and the ultra-access neck gives it a plus over PRS. If you only have $549 and you can only buy one guitar, I buy the Schecter 006 Black-Jack. I'm happy to have bought it and I would highly recommed it as a sole guitar or as a first guitar. If it was lost or stolen, I would use the insurance money to buy some good wine, I don't know what a 40 year old man is doing playing guitar anyway. I need to grow-up, focus on my real job, sell some of this stupid equipment...

Any sound is available for players who know how to get that sound. I run this through a Peavey Transtube fullstack with a Digitech GNX3 and I can acheive that Brad Delson thick distortion. Incredible instrument for the price, features not seconded to anything but a 900 dollar ESP. With the tonepros bridge, tuning is immediate and the duncans dont hurt either, great pickups in general. Sonic sounding at times and perfect for any style of metal.

Hears the only place I feel that Schecter kindasorda lacks in the development of this instrument, the finish. While flawless and distinct, anybody knows that a black guitar while onstage looks like a damn muddled piece of junk because of the ability to see through the finish. But, muddled piece of junk this is not, I just wish that schecter could have thrown a finish on this line that was a little more suiting for the guitars amazing quality.
