I have a 2003 Diamond Series 006 Deluxe, Korean Built, Satin Black, maple bolt-on with twenty-two "jumbo" rosewood frets, kinda thick neck, dot inlays with chrome tuners, double humbuckers, volume and tone knobs with a 3 way pickup switch.

Sound : 9
I'm in several diverse bands. This diversity ranges from Tool to my own style of pop and experimentation. I only have a small practice amp but the humbuckers always keep me the loudest and clearest. I've played it through much larger amps (such as the Peavey XXL head and 412 Cab) And I could not love it any more. The pickups were very quiet for stocks at a loud setting. There is nothing bad I can say about the sound. I would recommend getting better pickups but there is not necessarily anything wrong with them. You will defiantly not have a problem with this guitar on metal. You might struggle a little with pop as I do. But if you're looking at a Schecter you're most likely not interested in that genre.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is not bad, I like it a little high but it came somewhat low.
I don't remember needing to adjust the pickups maybe the bridge. My Schecter was new and didn?t have any known flaws or imperfections when I bought it. The wood was nice and still is very nice, the tuners have always worked great and quite precise. I do recommend playing any instrument for some time before attempting to buy it.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I had to give this guitar a 8 on this part because I don't know how well it will withstand me playing it. It is a very solid guitar in many ways but the finish might wear a little especially with now pick guard. In less than a year of owning it, I needed to get the strap peg fixed but that might just have been fault of my lack of care. It has not had a problem since though and that was the only thing that has ever happened to it.

I love this guitar, I have a rip-off Cort telecaster which is also very reliable but this is my favorite. I like playing this above all my friends guitars. One who has a Dano u3 and my other who has a parker p38. This is the best guitar for $300, If you like the style and you like Schecter go with this. If you don't like the style but like what metal Get a Omen 6 for $300. If this was stolen I would cry and than buy a Schecter 006 Elite or a 006 BlackJack. I love how dark and ballsy it can sound even with stock pickups. I love the neck and the action overall. If you are reading this without a clue what kind of guitar to get, get a oo6 or at least a Schecter! They won't disappoint you!

Reviewing my new 2004 Diamond Series 006 Deluxe, made in Korea. Double cutaway basswood body finished in "Vampyre Red Satin"; lightly finished maple bolt-on neck, medium thickness; rosewood fret board with 22 jumbo frets; 25.5" scale; dot inlays. Hardware includes ABM style bridge (string thru body); standard non-locking tuners; two generic design passive humbuckers; one volume and one tone control; and a 3-way selector switch (bridge, both, neck).

Sound : 6
My band plays original music that could be described as Jimi Hendirx meets 311. We also consider The Beastie Boys and Rage Against The Machine as big influences. Personally I am into King's X, Dream Theater, Slipknot, Korn, and Rush, as well as some contemporary guitar players such as Steve Vai, Andy Timmons, and Steve Lukather.

My rig consists of a Rivera Knucklehead II 100-watt head into an Avatar 2x12 cabinet with a Celestion Vintage 30 and G12H30. For effects I keep it simple: Dunlop Wah and Boss Digital Delay DD-5 pedal. I also use a Line 6 Spider II 1x12 combo for practicing.

The 006 is a fine guitar considering its humble price tag. I had fun playing it in the store and I felt very comfortable with the neck. The stock pups aren't bad, but I had a jones for EMG's so I purchased an 81/85 set and installed them the moment I got home. Needless to say they were a big improvement. For the sake of this review I'll mention that the stock pups are just fine for those on a budget. However if you want "your tone" I would recommend getting better pickups as this guitar is a real player and worth upgrading. With the stock pickups the tone was good, nice highs and lows. The definition was only so-so as some notes got lost when playing ringing chords. With a very high gain amp the sustain was fine. With the EMG's this guitar climbs to the next level and I would seriously consider the 006 as my main guitar.

I'm going to rate the sound a 7 based on the stock pickups. For the sake of comparison, I consider my PRS Custom 24 a "10" and the 006 with EMG's an "8".

Here is where I feel you get what you pay for.

First, the good: The guitar has a very solid feel that makes me want to play. The fret work is good; I can't feel the fret ends sticking out from the fret board, a symptom that is common with cheap guitars. I like the feel of the body shape, and the satin finish means my arms won't stick to the body when i sweat on stage.

Now, the bad: The hardware on cheap guitars is just that; Cheap. If you don't think a quality bridge makes a positive difference in tone over a cheap bridge, think again. Everything affects everything. The bridge saddles felt a little rough, basically encouraging a broken string. The tuners feel very cheap and I suspect there might be some slippage down the road. The nut was cut terribly and will probably lead to tuning stability issues. The slots were cut too shallow and narrow so I will need a new nut if I plan on using thicker strings for detuning. There were some rough spots in the finish on the neck that I had to smooth out with Scotch Brite. During my initial setup I noticed the truss rod was completely loose. One serious problem I can forsee is the action in the upper registers; the neck is a bolt on and it appears the neck pocket angle was too steep, causing high action in the upper registers. With the truss rod and action set properly the action above the 12th fret is barely acceptable. Since there is no way to adjust the neck angle (such as Fender's Micro-Tilt) once the frets in the upper registers are worn a bit I am going to have to shim the neck.

I know that is a lot of complaints. Keep in mind that most of these are common on guitars at this price point, and I actually feel this guitar feels and sounds better than the Ibanez, LTD, and other guitars in this price range I tried while shopping around.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
No opinion yet as this guitar was just purchased. Since I do my own work, and I basically went over this sucker with a fine-toothed comb, I feel confident in its durability. However, I would recommend that anyone who buys a guitar in this price range take the guitar to a private tech or repair person to look it over for troubel spots (slipping tuners, rough saddles, poorly cut nut, soldering or grounding issues, etc.)

No opinion yet. Lets hope I never need to deal with Customer Support.

My main guitar is a 2002 PRS Custom 24. I also use a 1998 Fender Strat Plus for songs that require detuning. That is about to change though...I feel that with a little love and TLC the 006 could be a killer axe. With the EMG's the tone is already worlds better than anything near this price range. I love the tone and feel of this guitar, but I don't trust cheap components and I plan on doing some upgrading before taking this baby on stage.

Anyone considering this guitar, go for it. The feel and tone is worth the price. And this guitar is worth upgrading. I'm going with a Tone Pros bridge, Sperzel locking tuners, and I'm going to have a new Graph Tech nut installed. I'm also going to have my tech do a quick fret level. The EMG pickups come with their output jack, volume and tone control, so I already have a head start.

Happy Jamming!!

i simply cannot say enough good about schecter without being redundant or sounding like an endorsement ad--but i will say that i am a professional guitarist who works anywhere from 4-7 gigs every week and have used schecter guitars since the spring of 2003 and could not think of a better instrument--THE VIBE is the thing and they have THE VIBE big time!!!
