Fat Mahogany sound. Fantastic for chugging Metal. Fretwire is too fat for my liking. The buzz on the D at fret12 CANNOT be got rid without sacrificing the action. But for <$300 including shipping to the UK! In 2000. I am not complaining. I own a Strat, a BC Rich NJ series Beast, and an Ibanez 470DXQM. This is my Metal guitar, If I'm not required to shred that is.. The DD humbuckers have never been changed. They stand toe to toe with the PAFJoe-MoJoe combo I have in my 470. Less trebley but still very nice for 'stock' pups.

As I mentioned above, the fretwire is too fat, the neck is too fat, and the guitar is too fat... Needless to say I bought an S series. But The A-1 has been my mainstay metal guitar for 8 years now. Although the action is a tad high nowadays as I want to avoid that nasty 12Frt buzz.
Although the Beast Looks better on stage, playing one of those things is like a endurance challenge, and by the time I'm done with the first couple of bars the ****** floyd licensed trem, has let all my strings outta tune (Hence the new S470, ZR all the way). This is one category where my A-1 has been my savior. It tuning stability is what you would expect from a T-O-M bridge. But the grover tuners have a nice ratio, and I find it easier to adjust the tuning on the fly, than with other guitars I have played (except the IBz470) ZR bridge best guitar related thing ever made (Since the Humbucker)

If it was stolen. I would not buy again, but the reason why I bought the thing in the first place is because I loved the look of it. If I saw one going cheap then maybe. Of all the guitars I own, I have played on this the most. for the price point, it sounds fantastic. I spent twice the price on my latest Ibanez, and to get it sounding anywhere close to this I had to whack in some new pups.. Even then the resonance of that huge chunk of Mahogany gives such a big sound.
I do hate the fretbuzz, the guy who said you cannot play an F barre cord, is either really fat, or really shit. He's right it was discontinued. But there were several reasons. The horn not being one of them (Have you ever played a BC Rich?? If ease of playing was a factor in the continuation of product lines, then BC Rich wouldn't make many guitars..)
The A-1 Is fine to play, although when getting to into the Music I have hit my chin on the horn one or twice... (Note per string) Shred is IMPOSSIBLE to nail on this guitar, the action has to be to high, and the frets are so big, and the neck so fat... The best analogy is trying to win a Tennis grandslam with a cricket bat. Although it's technically possible, logistically it's so difficult that it's pointless to try

My dad gave me this guitar for christmas a few years back, and I have loved is since he had it. It has a gunmetal grey finish thats absolutely beautiful. It's a little heavy, but that just tells me it's sturdy. It has duncan pickups, and everything else they came with from the factory. Mine has a small knick in the headpeice, (damn guitar stand) but still looks great.

This thing sounds awsome! I play everything from blues to heavy metal, Stevie Ray Vahn (attempt anyway) to metalica, and on my squire practice amp, as long as i play it right, it sounds right.

Very solid, well put together, well adjusted excellent starter guitar. I have had only one problem, and that is that there is a short in the wiring somewhere inside of it, so sometimes it cuts out. Someday I'll fix it.

This guitar will definetly stand up to live playing, provided i fix the wiring problem. Everything on this guitar is strong and very durable, as well as asthetically apealing.

Perfect for me. I also have a Cort acoustic (I have no idea what style, it's old, blue and has an ovular sound hole, but i can't seem to figure out what it is), but it's very hard playing, even for an acoustic, and my dad has an Ibanez, and a Fender Strat, and My A-1 sounds just as good as both of them.

My Schecter A-1 Diamond series has 22 jumbo frets. It has a bolt on maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard. It also has two Duncan Designs pickups. H/H. The finish is a rich metallic red finish. The controls are two knobs:one for volume and the other tone. Grover tuners. Tune-O-Matic bridge with a stop tailpiece.

For what I paid I think this guitar sounds awesome. I play nearly everything from Jimi Hendrix to The Misfits to Slayer. I haven't had any problems. The only thing is no whammy bar, but I could always get a Floyd Rose installed.

This guitar is suited for live play as well as studio play. The finish isn't thin. So far it's been totally dependable. I would gig with this guitar without a backup definitely.

I have been playing for about 3 years. I own a Zoom 2020 effects processor, a Boss Hyper-Metal stomp box, a Peavey Blazer 158 amp. I also have a strat rip off that I bought for 40 bucks(it sux). If it were stolen I'd buy it again. I compared this guitar to a strat and an Ibanez Ice-Man. I liked the Schecter the best and it sounded the best. I wish the guitar had a whammy bar, but then again I don't because I like the sound as it is. Also I'd like to add to anyone that doesn't like Schecter guitars, A guitar is just like anything else with a variety such as cars, some people are gonna like one brand or make and others won't. It just so happened that this guitar has fit my style. So everybody knocking Schecters, I'm sure there are people who hate your Strats, Ibanezes, or whatever you have. Just pick a guitar because it's what fits you, not what the majority thinks is cool.

For the price I paid (way under list) I cant imagine getting anything better. I disagree with the last person who posted hes a moron. My only real complaint about this guitar is the upper horn thingy has hit me in the neck twice and it really hurt lol.
If this guitar was set up better in the factory it would be near perfect. I would definately buy it again. As long as i had a second guitar with a whammy bar. Any questions? email me

I'm sorry, but I gotta call "bulls**t" on the last 2 responses. Especially "anonymous" (more likely an employee). This guitar has been discontinued if you want to know the truth. Mainly because Schecter couldn't sell them. The upper horn gets in the way of your chest or stomach (depending upon how high/low you wear your guitar). Also, the back of the head stock right near the nut and first fret gets in the way when trying to make any kind of "F" bar chord or power chord. It's hard to explain, but it's just too fat on the back side. Truth is...this guitar sucks. I owned one and can state this with honesty. Notice I said "owned"...I sold the crappy thing. Resell value sucked too. Schecter couldn't sell them new and when I got ready to sell mine...I lost my shirt. There are a hundred other guitars out there that I would consider before this one.

I like to play all sorts of rock from blues to metal, this guitar works quite well for all types. I run this guitar through a Line 6 Spider and it pretty much rocks. No noise from pickups at all, only a slight bit at very, very high levels of gain. It has a beautiful full sound to it and very nice sustain.

The guitar was set up very nicely, these guitars are shipped to the USA and set up at the Schecter USA factory. The frets are nice, it's the first time I have had XJ frets and I can see that my touch will have to change. No flaws in the finish. I believe that the nut is poorly cut. It looks as though it does not fit correctly. After a while I will probably have a graphite nut put on.

I am sure this guitar would stand live playing, the hardware seems fine. The finish is great although I haven't tested it with the effects of sweat and oil. I keep my guitars pretty clean so this shouldn't be a problem. Strap buttons seem solid. I would use the guitar without a backup.

I've been playing for 3 years and this is by far the best guitar I've owned. I previously had a Japanese Fat Strat (sucked), and a Standard Mexi-Strat (nice, but not for me). I would definitely replace this guitar if it were lost or stolen, probably with another one exactly like it. I love the shape of the guitar, I have always wanted a different shaped guitar, but always thought the V's, Explorer shapes were a little radical for my tastes. This one is perfect, it is a totally cool shape and classy at the same time. I compared this guitar to Epiphone SG's, Ibanez, DeArmond, Electromatic by Gretsch, and a host of others. This one felt solid and played well.

This guitar does not have hundreds of features like some others. It has two Duncan Humbuckers, fixed bridge, bolt-on neck, one volume control (for both pickups) and one tone control. The tuners are non-locking type, made by Grover and seem very stable. The neck has 22 jumbo frets and is pretty thin. This is definitely a guitar for heavy metal which suits me down to the ground. It's not too spiky but looks good and weighs a lot with it's mahogany body. Does everything that I need it for and does it well.

As you may have guessed, I like METAL!!! The humbuckers on this guitar are very high output so maybe the clean sounds aren't as smooth as they could be, but for high-gain rythmn and screaming lead, this guitar is the mutt's nuts. I am playing it through a Marshall VS100 combo and a Digitech RP7 effects pedal. The pickups can squeal a bit at very high volumes but they give a beautiful "fat" sound that's perfect for James Hetfield shotgun rythmn. Not the most versatile guitar in the world but perfect for rock/metal.

This is Schecter's budget range and the guitars are built in Korea. However, they string and set the guitars up in California at their main factory. Straight out of the box the set-up was flawless with great action and no fret buzz; Since then I have lowered the action a bit for easier soloing and if I had to make a comment about it, maybe it is a little high. The pickups were set fine and again gave a superb sound right out of the box. Having checked out the guitar thoroughly, the frets are fine, the neck seems okay, the tuners are good and the finish flawless. However, it does seem to attract dust and fingerprints and needs cleaning regularly to look it's best. Electronics seem good and quiet as well.

I only recently purchased this guitar and I would be hesitant to gig ANY guitar without a backup. Having said that, it seems to be rock-solid throughout and feels like it could survive anything. The hardware is all well fitted and has a sturdy feel to it. The first (and only) problem I have had with this guitar was getting the strap on the buttons. They are huge and I think the chances of it coming off them are pretty small. Given the quality name behind this guitar, I would feel as confident with this guitar as I would with any other if it came to playing without a backup, but I'd still take one

I've been playing about 3 years and before this guitar I have been a dedicated Strat-man. I am totally hooked however and the difference in the sound between this and my old Hotrails-toting Strat is huge. The only thing I could recommend would be a thru-body strings bridge but at this price maybe that's not realistic. As it is, I love the sound and I love the feel and I love the price. GO AND BUY ONE NOW!!!
