2008, I believe. Left-handed model. Made in Korea, set up in the good ole US. 24 XJ ebony frets, with just an "active" lightning bolt design on the 12th fret(don't worry, there are dots on the side so you wont get lost) and every single fret is easily accessible(ie 24th fret) Fingerboard feels nice and smooth, I'm guessing this is typical of Schecter since I have a C7 FR Diamond Series model that feels just as good. This one has the beautiful matte black finish(including headstock and back of neck, just the way I like it, also with a fitting cream colored binding all the way around, you can google the picture but a computer screen won't give it enough justice. Set neck construction (my first!) ORIGINAL Floyd rose Trem (my first!)along with grover tuners keep this baby locked in good. I ordered from South Paw guitars they sent it in it's Schecter cardboard box surrounded by a Gretch(spelled right?) box. Came with warranty card, extra spring, trem bar, and an assortment of allen keys(some of which don't even fit the guitar ha!)
Sound

I enjoy playing blues, hard rock, metal, classical, but of course I bought this for a metal sound, which it's PERFECT for, it's fun really to play basically anything on it. Right now, since my Randall X2 head is in the shop I'm playing through my little Vox practice amp( which is a kickass little amp) and this thing sounds just as good as my '99 ESP lawsuit explorer, I honestly couldn't tell too much of a difference between the EMG-81s and the Duncan Design "blackout" active hums that come stock with these guitars, I'm very impressed by the Duncans. If you play hard rock and metal, this is obviously the guitar for you.
Action, Fit, & Finish

I would give this an 8 or 9 since the action was set high when I first got it, but that would be pointless since it takes 1 minute to lower (with the allen keys provided) the action. The finish is of course awesome, with the black/cream binding combination. The neck feels great, it has more thickness than say, an Ibanez or Jackson with a Wizard neck, which to me is more comfortable, unless your a dwarf, you should have no problem with the feel and accessibility of the neck.

I haven't really had it long enough, but it seems to be built very solid, and I can vouch for Schecter on their craftsmanship through my C7 FR, I've had that for over a year and have nothing but good things to say.
Customer Support
:
No Opinion
Never dealt with them, and hope I don't have to. I'm hoping that their customer service would be just as satisfactory as their products.

I have been playing about 10 years, I also own a Schecter C-7 FR, ESP Explorer, Washburn Dimebolt (just for decoration), and a Dean classical and I could already see this instrument being one of my favorites. I saw it on the internet, researched it, and decided to buy it and it's every bit as good as I thought it was going to be. If it were stolen or lost I probably would eventually buy another one but I'd be highly pissed! If your looking for a good metal guitar, this is it and then some. If you thinking about getting an Ibanez, ESP, Jackson, etc, I would definitely check out Schecter before jumping the gun because they're MUCH cheaper priced (especially than Jackson/ESP) and justr as good quality if you ask me. Just please don't buy a guitar for the name alone.

The sound is incredible the active Blackouts are very articulate even with extremely high gain. The Mahogony produces a thick and dark tone with heavy distortion perfectly suited for all genres of metal and hard rock. The neck pickup seems to be a little bright when clean but backing off the tone knob a bit softens the tone perfectly. The blackouts sound surprisingly nice ran through a clean channel. Im running this guitar through a Carvin V3 tube head with Marshall chorus and reverb pedals a flanger and a BBE Sonic Stomp and the tone is pure brutallity.

The action out of the box was a bit high for my taste but nothing that couldnt be easily fixed. The finish on this guitar is nearly flawless the only thing I could find wrong with it was inside the tremolo cavity there was a small unpainted spec...obviously nothing to get real excited over. As far as the pickups are concerned the bridge pickup did need to be dropped a hair or two after I lowered the action.

This guitar is brand new but feels extremely solid. The hardware is all top notch so I have no doubt that it will stand the test of time and the finish seems to be extremely durable as well. Ive already bumped mine a few times and dont have so much as a dent in the finish. I replaced the strap buttons with Schaller straplocks and if you spend $800 on a guitar Id hope you would do the same. As with any Floyd equipped guitar a backup is a good idea while gigging.

Ive been playing for 18 years and my current gear consist of a 2006 LTD M200FM a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Studio an Ibanez 10 watt practice amp that I run a Korg AX1500G floor processor through for home practice. My live rig is a Carvin V3 head ran into a Peavey XXX cab...I have a Morley Wah a Boss sd-1 od pedal and a MXR smartgate going to the input and a Marshall Rg-1 and Rf-1 with a BBE Sonic Stomp running in loop 1 of the head. If this guitar were stolen Id be hunting someone and claiming it on my homeowners insurance to get another one. The things I love about this guitar is the smooth fast neck, the ebony fretboard, the high quality hardware and the original floyd. The only thing I wouldve changed or added to this guitar wouldve been to include straplocks and a case with it. When I was shopping for this guitar many others were considered a LTD JH600, BC Rich asm pro, Jackson DKMG , Ibanez RG2550z, and a ESP M-II to name a few. The only guitars that could touch this out of those was the LTD and ESP. I passed on the LTD cuz I wasnt all that comfortable with the Kahler trem and didnt really want EMG's. I passed on the ESP due to price mostly...the Schecter is simply a $1500 guitar selling for $799.
