Schecter C-1 Blackjack

Everyone pretty much laid out the specs.
Hard to argue with all liscenced hardware.
I don't feel anything needs to be added to it or replaced.

I currently own a thd flexi 50 on top of a mesa recto 4x12.

I've played lots of types of music mostly hardcore, disco, deathmetal, jazz, stoner sludge, and everything else (as I like to genre hop all the time)I've also played from standard to drop G. I find this guitar handles all genres and tunings without fail. The set neck is amazing! really helps sustain the lower notes played around the neck where most bolt ons seem to kill them. It is bright but tamed. Sustain is exactly what I need as i find almost every other guitar fails me in that department. This guitar is gig ready and will not color, or muddy your sound.
I'd say it really really shines for hardcore of all sorts and you wont have to scoop your mids to sound good.

I love low action and love drop tuning. I have NEVER had a fret buzz issue even in drop g. Always stays in tune.
The koreans do a great job on alot of their guitar suprisingly. (except their ibanzes or anything with bolt on necks)
No loose wires. Nice and light too.

It does not look overly lame and sparkely like the other schecters. No TUFF tribal or mud flap girls or blue flames in the fret board.
Just black with creme binding and metalic black hardware.

After a few years the shiny black finish on the knobs and bridge comes off with use, but who cares? your playing music with it, not posing nude.

This has been my main guitar for about 4 years and has never ever let me down. For the most part this thing has rarely been in a case. I have accidentaly yanked the cable out countless times. played many shows and droped it. wacked the neck in doorways or people. It has never had a fuzzy input or broken up the signal.

Never used a backup.

Schecter in my opinion value wise is not matched by anyone. For 500 bucks there is no better guitar brand new. I've seen them as low as 350$ used.
To buy anything more would pretty much be a luxary.
I'd call it a poor mans les paul.

The only thing I don't like is the fact it is made in korea.
I hope they get treated well at the factory, but I highly doubt it seeing how little the cost is.

The two pickups have very different sounds
i use a line 6 spider 3 amp and the bridge pickup (a Seymour Duncan JB)
has a lot of attack, good for leads or rhytyn metal (which is what i play a lot of) especially with amp setting like the line 6's metal settings (tweaked of course). The neck pickup is a duncan 59 and isn't as ballsy, good for lighter plains styles, and has a very mellow tone plaing on a clean channel

overall it would be nice to use more than teh bridge for the large amout of metal i play, but the variety is a positive

Everything was golden straight out of the box (metaphoriclaly speaking)
the strings sucked, but stock strings always do
a new set of strings and your ready to go
i use the zack wylde dunlop 10-60 sets and they work great, action is great for shred with no fret buzz

I use this thing solid 2-3 hours a day and it has not once failed me, still staying strong. Its always nice to go prepared with a backup, cuz you never know, but this one wouldnt; crap out on me

While i have only been playing for a year, i eat breate and sleep guitar, and this was my first purchased guitar. As soon as i played it i knew it was the one to get. Not breaking the bank at $700 and giving a great tone with out of th box playability and durability.
With teh passive pickups and all around solid nature, even when i expand my guitar collection, i think this will be my all around backup.
A solid investment i would recommend or buy again!!!!

I got this really cheap, which is a good job because the plank who owned it before me I think used this as a cricket bat rather then a guitar...more on that later.

Really good. I play punk and metal and use this through either a Zoom multi-effects for recording or a Peavey 5150 Combo for live. Both sound equally as good. Great sustain due to the scale length and neck contruction. The Seymour Duncan pickup configuration of the JB and 59 are a great combination and very versitle for both clean and hi-gain stuff.

Well this would have been a good guitar, if it wasn't owned by Captain ******* Caveman before me. Obviously clueless on how to use a guitar it was pretty beaten up, with really heavy pick scratches on the from (what was he playing with? A fucking kitchen knife or something?) and he also managed to cave in the area around the jack plug - probably by bashing one of his women over the head and dragging her back to the cave. There was also a crack in the headstock and the nut was loose which did give me some tuning problems. None of this is of course the fault of Schecter - who rightly assume that people who buy their guitars don't have the IQ level of an amoeba and think its actually a good idea to use it as a sledge-hammer. Even after all the above I can see that this is a quality instrument which has been well put together. It reminds me a lot of the construction of an ESP LTD Viper I had which was really well put together. It wouldn't surprise me if the two were made in the same factory. I'm going to give this a ten because I've seen other Schecters and seen how well they've been put together and I assume, that before Captain Caveman got hold of it, that this too was a quality instrument.
For some reason, guitars made in Korea get bad press, usually by people who are very snobbish when it comes to origin of manufacture - basically if it isn't made in America its crap. These people probably said the same about Japanese guitars in the 70s and 80s and everyone knows how high the quality is on these pieces.
I think these people should take their heads out of their arses and actually try these guitars made in Korea out. I own a few, a Korean Peavey Wolfgang, an ESP LTD EX-400 BD and have just sold an ESP LTP Viper. The quality on all three is flawless, especially the Wolfgang. I also had a Gibson SG Special and the quality control on that thing was abysmal. Where the Wolfgang had shielded wire, shielded pickup cavities and shielded covers. The Gibson didn't have any of this, it was really poorly finished and the paintwork was very poor indeed. Yet the Gibson went for double the price.

As mentioned above this has taken a severe battering and still plays nicely. All the hardware still works (which is a miracle in itself after the way this guitar has been treated) and the finish really is tough. The binding looks solid and the overall construction is good so this will last the distance. Really good quality hardware for the price.

Never had to use them.

I've been playing over 25 years, both guitar and bass so I think I would know a quality instrument when I play one. This definitely is a quality instrument and for the price, its fantastic vale. The hardware is top notch as are the pickups and if you can get a used one, its even better value. They are hard to get hold of over here in the UK as the mail dealer for Schecter isn't operational any more. Don't let the "Made in Korea" tag put you off either, these are quality built instruments on a par with ESPs Korean label "LTD". I've just bought a Schecter C-1 Stealth which I am hoping is as nice to play as the Blackjack.

It's got everything you need, the 5-way switch splits coils in the "inbetween" positions giving you some tonal flexibility... which is a very nice option to have. I REALLY dig this Axe.

It suits my style of playing very well... I play the virtouso "guitar hero" stuff most of the time, however I play a good bit of everything... Anything from Classical & Bluesy stuff, to 80's Hair and Modern Metal. This guitar covers all the bases quite well, it has all the tonal options I need.

I've got 2 different amps I use... A Carvin Legacy Halfstack for the bigger venues & shows and a Line 6 Spider II for little jams and practicing. This guitar sounds VERY good through both of them, it's got just enough balance of lows and highs. The mahogany body gives it a really thick low-end for the heavy stuff, and the maple neck brings out definition and clarity in the highs. It has a tremendous amount of sustain too... Certainly comparable to a Les Paul. When you play it you can feel it resonate against your body, it's really rich.

It's got a pretty bright sound, I was suprized... Clean chords have extreme clarity and definition, as does the high-gain sound. Even with a heavily-saturated tone you can hear all the notes... It's a wonderful lead guitar for this very reason, the CLARITY.

Another thing I'm very phsyched about is how quiet it is... I'm used to running a Boss NS-2 to keep things in check noise wise, but I've always found it cuts my sustain a lot, and adds a "steril" element to the tone making it sound processed and artificial. But this axe is super quiet, almost un-noticable amounts of pick-up noise on the "in-between" single-coil sounds and practically NO noise on the humbuckers, I now get to hear all the harmonic overtones that NS-2 typically gets rid of.

I REALLY like the tone of the Seymour Duncan pickups. The JB in the bridge has super-sharp highs, lots of output, and tight lows. While the 59' in the neck has nice round high-end, medium output, and smooth lows. I can't think of a better set of pickups for this axe, it's got a bit of that Randy Rhoads tone to it... VERY cool.

The guitar was set-up absolutely perfect right of the wall... Heavy strings are stock on this model, which I love. I'm big on having a lot of string tension, the more the better. I like being able to "dig in" a bit more dynamically and not have the strings give-in with tons of slack. The action is EXTREMELY low, it literally doesn't take much pressure to play... it's just above the frets. The only guitars I've seen with lower action are the Ibanez RG's

The bridge is the perfect height, the pickups are very close to the strings, the fretwork is immaculate, the bidings are very nicely done... The knobs turn smoothly and the pick-up selector clicks firmly into postion. Tens across the board for set-up... It's complete perfection.

This guitar will DEFINITELY hold-up under heavy conditions... It's got top-notch hardware and components, a thick glossy finish, great build quality, and a super-solid design... It's literally a TANK.

I'd use it without a back-up, but one should always have another guitar in the event that a string breaks (E.T.C)

I haven't had to deal with Customer Support, this guitar is so solid... it hasn't been a problem.

I've been playing about Three and a Half years, religiously... I LIVE guitar... it's ridiculous. If it were stolen I'd do everything in my power to get another one, for the price you CAN'T find a better guitar. I love the tone, the feel, the playability, and the sleek, sultry look... that's everything isn't it?

For guitars I own a Fender Stratocaster, A Carvin DC-727, and Johnson Acoustic and now this. Dare I say, this guitar sounds superior and outplays the Carvin! It's THAT good, I can't stress it enough you've got to try one of these out for yourself. I may have found my ultimate axe... Check one out.

Very Typical features, I would consider "5" to be average features, I gave this a "7" because of the real seymour duncans instead of the duncan designed pickups.

This guitar was a let down sound wise, I bought it because it played very nicely, but I couldnt control the feed back and the guitar didnt have any attack.
I typically play an ESP mirage and an Ibanez Jem, both of these guitars smoke this Schecter.

The build of this guitar seems very quality, the paint is beautiful.

I didnt keep it long enough to judge

I would much prefer to hear this guitar with a punchier pickup in the bridge, the Duncan JB is the most over rated pickup ever. I would like to hear it with a DiMarzio Evolution or a Duncan Custom Custom.

This guitar suits my style perfect. I play shred and various genres of metal.

The guitar sounded excellent right off the rack but I always make my own modifications and perform my own setups. There were zero dislikes about this guitar when I purchased it

Here's where I'd really like to compliment Schecter Guitar Research, as they're known.
Never in all my 30 years of playing, have I played such a nice axe at such an incredible price. It amazes me that for between 4-500 bucks this guitar came with Grovers, Tone Pros, Binding and such a beautiful Fit and Finish overall. As I mentioned above, I always perform my own Lutherie work on all my guitars, which includes installing Herc pups in every single one

No worries here. This guitar is built incredibly well and has stood up nicely for the past couple of years. Everything is solid on this Axe

I've never had to call Schecter but they're not very far from where I live. They're located in Burbank California, which is about 50 miles away from me so I wouldn't hesitate to drive there if I had a legitimate complaint about something related to their instruments

I've been playing for 30 years and that includes the Hollywood circuit for a great number of those years. I've played with alot of the great hair and metal bands of my era. I really like these Schecter Diamond Series guitars and as long as they keep up the good work and keep making guitars of this quality, for such a small price, then I'll definitely keep on buying them. Hands down, the best value Axe made and much nicer fretwork than the Ibanez that I've played, lately.

In this day and age, CNC Machine work, in my opinion is unmatched by hand made guitars. I'm not saying that there aren't some beautifully crafted hand made guitars in the world or luthiers that are excellent. I'm simply saying that the human eye or standard of accuracy cannot stand up to the accuracy of todays CNC Machine tolerances.
Schecter really seems to have some excellent quality control and even the electronics cavities on all of mine were meticulously soldered and the leads were all tied back and tucked away. There's nothing that I don't like about my Schecters, I can get the action nice and low for my style of playing and even my Omen 6's that I paid 250 dollars for, play as nice as my high end Les Pauls.

It has everything I was looking for. I have had this guitar for about a week.

This guitar sounds great! Loads of power when cranked up. Nice crisp clean tones. I have a Strat and used to have a Les Paul Deluxe '77 and this guitar sounds better than both.

This guitar plays perfect right out of the box. Action is just right. Probably one of the best playing guitars I have ever played. The neck feels perfect. Really nice fret work. No buzz. The pickups are very quiet. To me this is the most impressive thing about this guitar, it's just so easy to play. There are some imperfections in the finish. A few small streaks. But hardly noticable. Binding is nice. I love the black chrome hardware. Set neck construction is flawless. Last night I sat down and played this guitar hard for an hour and a half and didn't have to retune once.

Everything is very solid. No complaints.

I have been playing for 29 years. I have owned a '77 Les Paul Deluxe, American Strat, American Telecaster, Takemine EN-10C acoustic, Augustino acoustic, Gibson acoustic and this guitar probably plays better than any of them. I play a range of different styles. From Hendrix to Johnny Cash to King Crimson and this guitar can do them all. If this guitar were stolen, I would replace it in a heartbeat. I think for the money this guitar can't be beat!

We all know by reading other reviews where this guitar was made. Great pickups although I might swap them for detonators.. the 5 way switch is a great feature that I love, string thru sounds amazing, though I was dying for the c1 Floyd Rose (thatll be my next purchase)Tuners are great, the frets are awesome for shred, and the body style is of a super strat, great access to all frets while being extremely comfortable.

You wanna know how it sounds? Put it this way. I haven't touched my Gibson SG in a few months since buying this bad boy. The config of the humbuckers to single coils is awesome and sounds very strat like, making great clean sounds. The bridge pickup ROARS during solos, and the neck pickup sounds amazing as well, not too bassy but enough that it makes my floor rumble. There is nothing in sound that I dislike - it suits me perfectly!

When I got this guitar and to this day, the action has been incredible. Extremely low, yet no fret buzzing! The finish is great, a nice jet black gloss with yellow binding which looks sick - no flaws at all in this department, and thanks to Guitar Center I can bring it to them at any time to get the action adjusted for free

Man, I throw this sucker in the air, play rough on the strings, and basically knocked the crap out of it - yet it still looks perfect! Not one string has popped since the last time I changed them.. about 2 months ago! I depend on this more then my SG, since it shows the damage I have given it, while this C1 withstands my wrath! Strap hasn't fallen off once so the strap buttons seem to be solid as hell. I would definately gig without a backup, even though ill always have that SG lying around in the background as my C1 makes me look like a million bucks!

at first I had doubts about this guitar - the price was pretty high up there for a 16 year old and I wasn't too familiar with Schecter Guitars. Now, I'm pretty sure that I will not play any other brand BUT Schecter! This guitar has truly amazed me and will probably be by my side for many, many MANY years to come.

The parts were made in South Korea and the guitar itself has been assembled in Burbank, CA. I belive these were made sometime in 2004. It has 24 frets with abalone dot inlays. I think this is a laminate top. It has a volume pod, tone pod, and a 5-way selector. An H/H pickup configuration is complemented by Seymour Duncans (JB SH-4 at the bridge and a SH-'59 at the neck. Passive electronics. Mahogony body and a maple neck. A solid black finish on the whole guitar with creme binding. Strat-like body with a tune-o-matic string thru bridge. Non-locking grover tuners. Medium neck with jumbo frets on a rosewood fretboard.

Excellent sound especially with the JB-SH-4 humbucker I can get a great distortion and with the 5-way switch I can split the coils and play it like a strat. I plan to buy a marshall valvestate amp and play with it but right now I'm using a piece of crap 10-watt amp but the guitar STILL sounds good. Lots of variety and warm sounds. NO DISLIKES!

Action is factory set and ok. Pickups are in the right place. Properly routed bridge. NO FLAWS!

This guitar will withstand playing live and is VERY reliable. Everything is in tip-top shape and feels great.

I have been playing guitar for maybe 3 years and I have tryed out many, this is the cream of the crop. As good as any gibson, if not, BETTER! I wish I would have just waited a little long til the tempest blackjack came out, but Im fine with this baby. I wouldn't hesitate buying another schecter. I love the sound this thing makes. It is one of the best sounds I have ever heard. Schecters are some of the best you can buy in the $500-700 price range.

I just bought this guitar at a local guitar center. I got a great deal on it. Features include Mohogony body, Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz 59, the reson i bought it was because i liked the ultra access neck- set that the schecter introduces on this model. For the price like that you get much more then what the other companies offer these days. I especialy like the 5 way switch which generates a wide range of tonal qualities both on clean and on the distorted chanels.

I play mainly kataklysm, cannibal corpse type stuff so this guitar has better deliver a nice chunk... The seymor duncans do extremely well in a mohogany body when it comes to tone.

when i was instaling Dunlop strap locks the finish cracked a little..
but over all the quitar is a strudy peace of brick..

i was suprized though.. its not as heavy as the other guitars..
when i was playing it before my perchase it sounded chinkier then the rest on the Peavey XXX.

So far it been ok...

IM the kind of person that takes great care of my instruments. After each playing i wipe the dirt of them and make sure they are stored in a safe place away from my brother.

while playing live it does well...
My advice- Get strap locks for it.
