You already know the features if you're looking at this, 2 humuckers, 5 way switch, grovers, volume and tone. What more do you need? Made in Korea, it could be made on Neptune and I wouldn't give a rip. 24 fret neck with abalone inlay and a really nice meaty feel to it. Frets are dressed well and have plenty of meat. Came strung with 9's, I changed to 10-52 and felt no diffence in action. Finish is outstanding, mine's the blue quilt. Neck through construction gives this guitar a great amount of sustain.

I play everything from Chris Tomlin to Helmet to Johnny Cash, and this guitar does a great job switching tones. I run it into either a new Blues Deville or a '73 Marshall Super Lead 100 and it's really responsive to pick pressure, more so with the Marshall than with the Fender (and yes, I drool every time I play the Marshall). This guitar will not sound exactly like a '57 Strat or '59 Les Paul, about 40k will get you either of those tones but it does a great job giving distinct, full, not noisy single coil and humbucking sounds. The volume knob is responsive enough to clean up the Marshall if I roll it back a little, then full up for distortion. I haven't found a dead sound in this guitar yet.

Intonation could have been better at the factory but i always set everything up myself anyway. It plays better than any Gibson I've owned in the past 20 years, my beloved '74 Les Paul Deluxe being the king but this guitar is real close in terms of playability. Only modification I'm doing is an Earvana nut because even with the intonation set properly the upper midrange is a little off.

I play this guitar live every week and unless you're throwing it across the stage it's bulletproof. I would never take just one guitar to a gig, but this Schecter is more than capable of long-term durability.

I've been playing 38 years, have a bunch of other gear and this C1 is hands down the best purchase I've made in a while. If it were stolen I would buy another right after kicking somebody's *** for stealing it. My favorite thing about the guitar is its sustain, and the pickups - God bless Seymour Duncan. Schecter may be frowned upon by those who can spend unlimited money on their stuff, but as a working musician with four mouths to feed I can tell you that I would put this guitar up against anything Gibson has put out in the last decade. You will not regret purcasing this instrument.

Guitar has 24 frets and sounds solid and tight - suits my music just fine. Is not a Fender replacement - it is a Les Paul replacement though.
Sounds great - the tone in all five positions the Tone is solid, in every switch setting (bridge, bridge tapped, bridge/neck, neck tapped, neck)
Using my Pevey Ultra Plus (Marshall is sitting in waiting) but all my tests are done with the Ultra Plus. Peavey Sheffield Cab. VVT Amps and Marshall 1960A Cabinet.
Noiseless
Currently no dislikes for tone!

Got the guitar in a trade so unknown about the original setup but the guy I got it from doesn't play so I suspect its Factory setup. Heck the strings fell like they are 5 years old. Action was dialed in for me - low and fast. Pups setup very well.
Quilted matched top is slightly off but only to the trained eye. The string ferrells are fine on top but have some finish chips on the back.
Ferrels and the finish chips is the only flaw I've been able ti find.

Grover Tuners, tune-o-matic adjustable bridge with string through - solid as a rock!!
The through neck is going nowhere. the only this that could happen is if I drop the thing and the headstock snaps off!!
The Finish is standard Korean depth so it may have issues but it's fine to me.
The heel strap botton was in a bag when I got the guitar and seems to work after I put it back on the guitar - I replace these with Strap locks and big screws anyways
I could gig without a backup but I like to have multiple guitars for the fun.

Been playing since 1980, Own more than 10 guitars, two amps and many pedals and other gear. This guitar trade is a win-win for both of us.
If stolen I would have to buy something else becuase I couldn't afford it.
Love the look, playability, tone. Favorite feature is the Vine inlays!!
Not fond of gold hardware - but it'll do.
Compared to Strat, Tele, RG, Les Paul and this thing is great but different.
I wish it had a FLoyd Rose Locking Trem - Otherwise it's exactly what is should be.
I don't know about the indonesian or chinese Schecters, but this guitar is very nice and has the right pickups for me. It looks great, plays great and sounds great, stays in tune and sounds tight.

The guitar is fairly versatile. It's full, although a bit muddy at times in the neck, so much tweaking is needed for a wide range of sounds but it is possible to have a diverse playing style with it. I can play metal, blues, jazz, etc. Overall, the sound is good. Do not expect to bend very much, however, it is very prone to going out of tune on bending.

The action was high. I adjusted it (the bridge is NOT durable!). The neck can get very sticky.
Reliability/Durability
:

This is why the guitar is priced so low. Mine lasted for about 2 years. The bridge is cheap aluminum. If you do any adjustments, no matter how careful, you will strip the screws. The jack comes loose after a fair bit of play. The plastic 5-way switch has a short, causing loss of power to the humbuckers. The frets have worn down (after only 2 years!). The frets, screws, and all other metal parts, except for tuners, have quite a bit of rust.

I just didn't bother to contact them. I don't think refretting is covered and I certainly don't want to send it to them so they could replace the cheap parts with the same crappy parts.

I've been playing for nearly 10 years. I got the schecter as a cheap playtoy. It's just that. If it were lost or stolen, I'd just move on to something else. I like that it's fairly versatile but it's just too cheap to do anything worthwhile on. I used to play it a lot for practicing at home until I recently replaced it.

The sound Quality of this thing blows me away. i expected a decent guitar for the money but i didnt expect this. i have 2 Les paul customs and this Guitar surpasses them by FAR. i play through a PODXT, & a Bogner Alchemist for recording at home, on the rare occasion i gig, i play the Bogner Head through a Line6 4x12 cab with a Keely modded Ts-808. the only thing that i would improve is it doesnt seem to pick up Pinch Harmonics as well as it should, as the "sweet spot" is hard to find. great for any style From Blues to Black Metal, a Strat is the only better player in the blues games IMO

the c-1 classic is a remarkably versatile guitar. great for jazz to metal and everything in between. I used it with a marshall 15w solid state which sounds phenomenal and with a roland microcube, which sound especially good with all the effects. usually doesnt make much humming or feedback. no complaints with the sound though sometimes it doesnt have the sustain that i'd want, thats probably more of a product of the action than the guitars sound. i tried this guitar on a marshall jcm 2000 series half stack and the sound rivaled a gibson easily.

the action came a little high although it's very easy to adjust on a schecter. i lowered mine a bit which caused a very slight buzzing on the first fret, but definitely worth it for the lower action. the pickups were set up nicely. there are 5 settings, a couple of them sound much like a strat, but the neck and bridge alone sound rather smooth themselves.

2003 C-1 Classic -Lefty. I bouth this new and have been giggin with it since. Comes with 2 Seymour Duncans, gold hardware, quilt top, tune-o-matic bridge and grover tuners. 5 way switch adds an incredible amount of versatility.
I submitted a review when I first got this guitar, but realized over the past 6 years that it continues to be my preferred guitar for playability and sound even with an American Deluxe Strat, a Standard Tele, and an Epi Dot in my arsenal. I think it deserves a follow up review just based on how well it has held up and how it continues to be my first choice gig after gig.
Sound
:

I know the Schecters are touted as the preferred choice for hard and heavy groups (i.e. Slipknot), but I play only praise and worship and can't find another guitar with as rich sound, better sustain, or ease of playability as this guitar. I can't pass up on a good thing and if that means putting the preferred weapon of the unchurched rockers to use, then so be it.
I have read some reviews that bash the pots on this guitar, but I haven't found any pots on any of my guitars to be any better straight from the factory. I woudl bet that these reviewers say the same thing about all their guitars. My (15 year +)experience has been to turn up the tone on any guitar all the way and dial in the EQ at the amp. Same thing on the volume. Turn it up to 8 and regulate volume with a good quality (Ernie Ball?) volume pedal.
I play it clean through my Marshall DSL401 with a little delay and vibrato and it sounds like it was made for praise music. Add a little Fulltone OCD overdrive and think "Third Day". It covers electric praise music like no other guitar I have owned.

Guitar was set up well at the factory. However, I am a tweaker and had to make a few minor adjustments to the neck and intonation. This is my hang up and I do it with all my guitars. There were absolutely no flaws on the finish and the PU were adjusted perfectly. Great job Schecter!

I have had the usual problems with all my guitars over the years; dirty pots, jacks loosening, etc. But not with my Schecter. I have been playing it hard for over 6 years now and it has held up better than ANY of my other guitars (Fender, Ernie Ball, Epiphone, Dean, and an old DeArmond). I would leave for a gig with this as my only electric guitar and not worry about failure - not bad for a guy with OCD tendencies.

Bought this a couple years ago, made in Korea, set-up in US
Heritage (brown) burst quilt maple, gold hardware.
Very solid specs for such a budget axe, bridge and Grovers are industry standard, pickups are great, but some may desire different sounds.
Neck-thru ply-neck makes this stand out against guitars in the 3 to 4 thousand $ range.
Cheap-o switchgear makes me frown, but not shocked. Worthless pots, LOUD pup selector.
Sound
:

Very nice for mellow blues, jazz-fusion, some country twang. Not enough bite from neck, too much twang at bridge for me. It could certainly cover a wide range, but I couldn't find "the Tone" until I swapped out pups for BurstBuckers. Great sustain, great resonance in your hands. The snap and sustain make you wonder if it's not built out of a railroad truss with steel reinforcement. Did I mention the sustain?

Phenomenal set-up for an overseas guitar; having them built abroad for cheap and ironing them out in Cali is a great way for Schecter to go. Intonation needed a tweak, but was light years ahead of anything I've bought from Gibsons to Fender to Guild. I always wondered why a $3000 hand built custom Les Paul needed a $100 set-up before it was playable... I guess it's just the manufacturer.
Finish looks ok, I'm not in love with the color. I was digging the darker fade, but its a flatter brown than I'd like. The quilt is unanimously agreed to be gorgeous, but more than one person has likened the color to, um, poop. Vine of life inlay is super cool, a really stand-out gem for any fretboard. No worries for you guys who "follow the dots", the curls and leaves seem to be put in places that make the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, etc. frets unmistakable. To me at least...

Electrically, I doubt it will ever fail. The pots are cheap and useless, but at least they're built like tanks. Even the jack hasn't budged, something I have never seen before.
Gold finish on hardware sucks. What didn't polish off immediately has started to corrode in a highly ugly and damaging way. Maybe I sweat a lot, but this thing will need a new tailpiece very soon. At first I thought it would look cool and more "vintage", but now my saddles are siezed and the string ferrules have damaged the finish. Meh. At least the clearcoat has held up well, although I did wear straight into the soft wood on back with 2 years of heavy belt-buckle abuse!
Stays in tune for a whole gig.
-Odd note: I don't know how/why, but the tuning seems VERY susceptible to temperature fluctuation. I mean, I tune before I play it anyway, obviously, but even a quick walk from warm van to cold street to warm club is enough to drop this thing a whole step. Not a problem, really, but never seen it so extreme...
All in all, it really is incredibly solid. Wouldn't ever gig without a backup, but I think my back-up for this would collect a lot of dust!

Overall, I really do love this thing. It's not my dream guitar, but I'm convinced this saved my musical life. It's kept me onstage through thick and thin. When times are good, she does the dirty work so the $$$ axes can rest and be babied, and when times are tight, she can still wail and scream long after the babies are sold for rent money. It doesn't quite have the fit and finish of a PRS, but that's basically what it is: a poor man's Custom 24. PRS wishes they had a neck this alive. If it got stolen, I wouldn't care, they're cheap enough to just go get another one, which I would do immediately. :)

I usually play on the clean channel and the tone (or lack of it) of the guitar I'm using really stands out. The neck-thru const. and mahogany body of this Schecter really generate resonance and sustain. You can feel the vibrations against your body without amplification. The five way switch allows you to get as thick a sound as you like, but also some nice sparkly Fender-esque sounds. The guitar has no hum and the controls work quietly and smoothly.

I own or have owned American Gibsons and Fenders and an Ibanez Prestige. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this Schecter makes all of the other electric guitars I've owned seem like toys. This guitar looks and sounds so beautiful that I will never be able to accurately describe it to you. Go to a store and play one. For a perfect guitar you have to spend a lot of money: I would choose a PRS Custom 22 10Top...at least ??? 3.000 here in Italy.
But for an almost perfect guotar choose the C1!!! ??? 700 + ??? 130 to replace electronics and you are done! I spent a lot more on my American std Strato, for example.
This little wonder have the right pick ups, is well manifactured, properly set-up and looks beautiful!

Review is for a 2007 Schecter C-1 Classic.
Here are the features, from the manufacturer's catalog:
CONSTRUCTION/SCALE: Neck-Thru /25.5???
BODY: Mahogany w/ Quilted Maple
NECK/FINGERBOARD: Multi-Ply Maple & Walnut/Rosewood
FRETS: 24 Jumbo
INLAYS: ???Vine of Life???
PICKUPS: Seymour Duncan JB (SH-4)
& Jazz (SH-2n)
ELECTRONICS: Vol/Tone/5-Way Mega
BRIDGE: TonePros TOM w/ thru-body
BINDING: Creme (neck/headstock)
TUNERS: Grover
HARDWARE: Satin Gold
COLOR: Antique Amber (ANTQ)
Pickup selector, as others have mentioned, is wired so as to allow for a wide range of tonal options from the two humbuckers. The guitar is beautiful, with excellent workmanship evident at all points. After reading some of the reviews mentioning problem solder joints I opened it up, pleasantly surprised to see good joints all around, and very tight workmanship even in the cavities. Machine cut, I'm sure, but I've seen Fenders that look like a dull router was used inside the body.
The hardware, electronics, and woods used to make this guitar are all of excellent quality. It stays in tune better than my strat, and my strat has Schaller locking tuners! Of course, this guitar has a fixed bridge and a well-cut graphite nut, so there's less tuning issues to begin with.
Easy 10/10 on features, for what I need. If you need phase switches and individual pickup switches and push-pull coil taps, this might not get you where you want to be, but I don't know of many factory instruments that would...

I play blues/jazz fusion and metal.
I use this with both tube and SS amps, from a little THD Univalve 15W'er to a Peavey all-tube half stack. I do use a pedal chain for each of my amps, but nothing extreme - distortion, delay, reverb, EQ, that kind of thing. Not even any modulation, right now.
No noise from this guitar. Very quiet in all switch positions, though the ones which aren't using the coils like a humbucker obviously aren't going to cancel 60-cycle hum.
Very, very warm sounding guitar, but with good treble presence as well. The stock pickup set is a real classic, nearly everyone has an opinion on them because nearly everyone has tried them. Personally, I love them, and the switching setup makes an old favorite into a newly-capable, very versatile combination that sacrifices nothing of the individual humbucker sound you go for!
In positions 1 and 5, it's a Jazz or a JB humbucker in the neck/bridge. You know what to expect. The neat stuff is 2, 3, and 4, which give very cool sounds. 2 is almost like an acoustic-electric, 3 is very fat sounding and combines the best of the JB with the best of the Jazz, and 3 is similar to an overwound single coil in a Strat's bridge position.
10/10 for what I play. This is quickly becoming my favorite guitar.

Great. Just great. No complaints at all. The Schecter USA setup crew did a fine job. I do my own setup, and I did tweak it a bit to be exactly how I like it, but I was building on an already excellent setup and didn't have to do much at all to dial it in perfectly.
Well-intonated with relatively low action from the factory and minimal fret buzz, pickup height was just right for the best tone without hurting sustain and well-balanced neck to bridge. Hard to ask for more than that.
The top is gorgeous, and yes, it's properly bookmatched.
No flaws at all. I wish there were, I hate giving 10/10 reviews, but it deserves it.

I replaced the strap buttons with Dillion straplocks (the push-button kind, I use them on all my guitars and they work very well, no accidents). The gold-colored hardware will likely tarnish over time, but that's to be expected, and just adds character. The bridge and tuners are very high quality (Tone Pros is a very good company for guitar hardware, and so is Grover), no worries there.
I expect it to hold up quite well. I will be taking good care of it - it's too pretty to do otherwise - but I am sure that if I take care of it, it'll take care of me.
I'm not going to submit a rating, because this is the kind of thing that can only be assessed after owning it for years. If I remember or care, I might come back and rate it five years down the line ;)

Just a phenomenal guitar.
Hurry and get one while you can still get one Made in Korea! They're going to move a lot of the production of the Diamond series guitars over to Indonesia, and I worry that the quality will suffer. I have several Made in Korea guitars from various companies, and I am firmly convinced they're the new Japan as far as the price:quality ratio is concerned. Excellent workmanship on all of them, this is no exception.

Kustom 36, slightly modified.
Diamond Phantom with the Spec op cab.
All sound great, especially with the Diamond of course.

Also, I think the pickups were adjusted after it left the factory.

Not good. Not good at all.
They were friendly, but not very helpful.
I did get a call directly from Schecter telling me I wasn't going to get the guitar I ordered originally. But they probably did the best they could. (If you're left handed, you're used to it...)
I think every big company suffers from losing a few customer service battles though. If you buy it from the local guitar store, that's where your service should come from anyhow.
I ordered one, a left handed model, and that fell through.
Then I bought a righty and turned it upside down. I'm glad I did though, instead of going with something else. It's a great guitar.

The guitar has great sustain and its pickups are quiet, even next to eight 4-foot flourescant lights, which would normally be a recipe for disaster with any of my other guitars.
The sound is VERY bright, in fact, I find myself bringing my treble/tone down, which is a GREAT asset - better to have too much tone and be able to back it down than to want more and not have it.
I've used the C-1 Classic with a BOSS GT-10, direct into a Line 6 Spider 3 combo and into a Roland Cube 30X guitar amp with very successful results. The simitar simulator is great with the brilliance this guitar can provide. The metal tones are very edgy yet have a great overall tonal sound (you can hear all 6 strings in a very overdriven chord.)
I kind of wish that the option to separate the pickups into single coils was done with another switch or push-pull knobs like some of my other guitars, so the selector switch doesn't change my tone so significantly as I flip from position 5 (rhythm) to position 1 (lead).

The guitar is very playable "out of the box". Guitar Center got me one that they had not put out on the floor prior, so I know it would be at its best by the time it was in my hands. I think the strings (9 gauge) could have been 10's, but these can bend 2 full notes without my being nervous about popping them.
The attention to detail on Schecter guitars is awesome, and while each has their own visual appeal, the "vine of life" fretboard design is so eye catching, it's now my primary live guitar.

I've had this guitar for a little over 2 weeks, and while I can hardly ever put it down, I've not had it long enough to say it's reliable/durable. However, I _NEVER_ gig without a backup guitar, or at least a second guitar with an alternate tuning that could be quickly re-tuned to back up my primary guitar.
I replaced the strap buttons with locking ones, since my straps all have the same connections, and I can toss any guitar onto my preferred strap at any time -- I highly recommend doing this anyway, it's just one more way to keep your guitar safe.

Never needed them, hope I never do. Their web site has schematics of the pickup wiring which I am grateful for! That saves me so much time in wondering if I need/want to replace the pickups in this guitar in the future or not. (I chose not to.) Guitar Center was the ones that recommended this brand of guitar to me, when i went in and asked what their best and most versitile guitar was. They've never steered me wrong before.

I play every style of music, though I focus on 4 "sounds" for my live performances:
1. Super clean - rhythm and very reverse/reverb heavy filler sounds
2. Crunch - my usual rhythm sound, varied gain settings
3. Power - Dual Rectifier sounds, power chords and lots of "chugging"
4. Lead - "this one goes to 11" where I really take lots of different effects and toss them together to come up with unique guitar lead parts.
I have played Fenders, Les Pauls (Epiphone and not) and Ibanez guitars as "primary live guitars" in the past. I never found a single guitar that suited my tastes until the C-1 Classic. Now, I feel like I have the best of all worlds in one guitar!
My current rig (which I recommend) is:
Schecter C-1 Classic --> BOSS GT-8 (get the GT-10 in a month!) --> Roland Cube 30X as a stage monitor/practice amp (I take the signal off the effects processor to the house PA.) With this combination, I don't feel like I could ever exhaust the tonal possibilities that are out there for serious live performance guitar playing!

This is a great guitar for rock/metal music. I play it through a 2 channel Mesa Dual Rectifier with a Mesa 4x12, and was blown away at how good this axe sounds. I've always thought the clean channel on Rectos was a bit lacking, but this guitar makes it shine. The bridge JB is full sounding, and you can get some great tones by combining/spliting the pickups. It's very clear sounding, and packs quite a punch when using distortion. Leads sound amazing on this axe. I A/B'd it with my Les Paul equipped with Burstbuckers (which has been my favorite for years) and I have a new favorite. I have read about the tone pot issues, (working only at extremes), and I have to say that the sweep on them isn't the greatest, but I mostly keep it dimed anyway so that doesn't really bother me. For the price, it's a 10.
Action, Fit, & Finish

This thing came set up almost perfectly to my liking. I adjusted the action a little lower (not by much), and it plays like butter. The neck is quite fast, fret edges are by far the best I've seen on a guitar in this price range. I have a small buzz on the low E string when played open, but it's not noticable through the amp. Schecter does a very good job of setting these things up.
The finish on this guitar is spectacular. The maple top has a very nice grain to it, and the blue color is nice as well. I wasn't too sure that I liked the color at first, but it grew on me. The neck inlay matches the blue color also, since it has quite a bit of blues and green throughout. It is quite heavy, weighing in at a pound or two more than my Les Paul.
Reliability/Durability
:
No Opinion
I haven't had it long enough to play live with it yet, but I'm sure it will hold up. The finish seems like it will withstand fair amounts of abuse, but I wouldn't go throwing it around and expect it not to be chipped or scratched.
The strap buttons are oversized, so they seem like they would keep a strap on very well, but I changed them out with some Dunlop strap locks. Not that I wouldn't trust them, just that every other guitar I have has strap locks on them already.
I would gig without a backup on this guitar if I had to, but I always take at least 2 axes to a gig.

I've been playing for almost 15 years, of which time I've played just about every kind of guitar known to man - From $100 Squires to $4000 Gibsons and PRS's and everything in between. These guitars are comparable to any expensive name brand guitar. You could go spend $2500 on a PRS with a bolt-on neck, or $700 on a Schecter Classic and get a better bang for your hard-earned buck. The quality build, sound, and feel of this guitar is by far greater than the mid-range price tag of it. For the money, you would be hard-pressed to find a better guitar. I compared this guitar side by side with a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser equipped with EMGs, and the overall sound and feel of this guitar is much better.

I gave this a 9 because it is outstanding for a stock guitar. All I did to is was intonate it and swap out the strap buttons for Dunlop straplocks.
I have the orange burst model, and I love it. I wasn't sure about the vine inlays, but it looks stunning. My guitar came from guitar center without any un-fixable issues (marred paint, cruddy frets, Etc). Don't pay any attention to the people that diss it for being assembled in Korea; they seem to know what they are doing. The tuners (grovers) are amazing, I will never go back to whatever was on my old Epi. This guitar has proven to stay in tune for two weeks!
The pickups it comes with are superb; they were one of the selling points for me (along with the finish, neck-thru, and 5-way switch). I use the neck pup for almost everything. For heavier leads I naturally use the bridge, and for blues I use the selector position one step up from the bridge. Extremely versatile.
For you people who say that the neck-thru gives you screaming sustain, I am going to be the realist among the purists. The only thing that will get you crazy sustain is gain. Duh. BUT - the neck-thru provides un-paralleled access to the higher frets (all 24).
The 5 way selector switch is great, couldn't ask for a better switch (especially stock!)
That's about it, a guitar is a guitar.
Sound
:

It sounds great, just like a guitar in this price range should. If you are smart and keep the pups and tone knob cranked the highs are clear and bright. Otherwise is sounds like (what a surprise) crud. Well, maybe not crud, but definitely mud. Very dead. so if you need to adjust volume, grab a volume pedal (and put it in your fx loop).
Bridge pup: very bright and significantly hotter than the neck pup. A bit harsh if your not ripping a lead.
Neck pup: Much more mellow that the bridge, I use for styles from jazz to medium rock.
The 5-way switch really allows you to morph your sound a heckuvalot better than a 3-way.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

This is where things get a little hairy... like I said above, everything that is un-adjustable was perfect. But the action and intonation where crud. That took me an hour or so to iron out.
Everything else was perfect though, even the truss-rod was fine (or as far as i can tell it is).

The only thing I can really grip about is that the gold leaf on the bridge pup is all faded/smudged off from resting my hand there in a palm mute. I was kinda put off by that (it also all came off on one my my dublop strap buttons).
It is a neck-thru, so if you break it your screwed. But no guitar is built to be dropped (that's why they made straplocks).
Also, I have managed to make a plethora of tiny scratches on the back from the plastic buttons on my sunday shirts. Bleh. Get yourself a scratch protector no matter what guitar you choose.

I have been playing for almost three years and this guitar was given to me last year (it is my 2nd).
If it were stolen, I would probably shop around for a used Les Paul or some other higher end guitar. The wow factor is nice with new gear, but you get more bang for your buck with a used instrument.
However, if you are bent on buying new, I could not recommend a better guitar in this price range (I compared it to a Schecter C-1 Plus, Fender Deluxe players strat, an Ibanez something rather (in this price range), and the Gibson vintage mahogany).

Most everyone already listed the features but I'll give it a try in case someone missed something, starting from the headstock working down; Grover tuning heads. A truss rod that doesn't seem to do much (more later), under a truss rod cover that should have two more screws in it so it doesn't flop around when you try to screw it back into place. 24 jumbo frets layed out on a 25 1/2 inch scale. Multi-ply maple walnut neck with a rosewood fingerboard and of course that "vine of life" design on it. Binding. Neck thru construction. A SH-2n humbucker at the neck and a SH-4 at bridge- passive. Flame top maple in sunburst, laminated to mohagony. Strat style body. TOM bridge that is the thru the body type not the LP tail piece type. One volume knob and one tone knob. A 5 way selector switch that splits the PU's in the 2nd and 4th position, uses both humbuckers in the middle position and hopefully you understand what the switch works in the 1st, 3rd and 5th position. Does not come with a hardcase or anything else... nothing but the guitar does not cost thousands of dollars either.

I gotta be honest; I don't have a style of guitar that I really could define what type of music is REALLY the kind of music that I play, I guess because I like all types of music but would have to default to the heavy side of the spectrum, if asked.
It sounds just spanky dirty, really it does. It doesn't push out crazy harmonic pinches like some guitar/pu's can but it can get pretty mean.
I guess the bad news is that it doesn't sound AND can't make strat tones (sorry fellas)and I knew that as soon as I played it without pluging it in I knew that- it sounded kinda like an LP, but it does have it's own voice and having it's own voice is cool by me as I didn't want another strat and I sure didn't want a LP.
The clean tones are fine and are really usable.
I compare this guitar to my Ibanez RG42 that has PAF pros in it but with a litte more tone and maybe a little more tame.
It's not noisy except for that little pop noise that the tone pot makes.
I've used a few amps with this guitar already; a VH100R, a XXX head, TT20H, some old AOR heads, a Epi valve jr. (all with a few different cabs), some Line 6 stuff and so so far I haven't disliked it at all. I like the guitar, except for the tone pot noise that it makes.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Intonation wise the guitar was set up fine but the action seemed too high for me so I lowered the bridge and since the neck seemed to have a little convex (backwards bend) bow to it I loosened the truss 1/8.
24 hours later I played it for a while, retuned it and the bow was still there, maybe the neck got a little better but it didn't seem like it moved.
Long story short- the truss rod is hardly doing anything after several adjustments. The action isn't bad (about 1.5 mm at the 12th fret and that's as good as it's going to get with this guitar) but it isn't great. I have Squires with much better action so maybe the person that inspected my guitar (#18) should rethink what that "set up to play" sticker that they signed means- I guess it means average/won't suck/but the neck isn't the greatest in the first place.
The fretwork is very nice tho... perfect, minus the undectable-ish buzzing that takes place if I attempt to place this guitars action into decent shredders guitar territory- the top string is a buzzer and that is really a neck problem, not a fretwork issue. The frets are smooth as butter and the ends of the fret wire are perfectly finished.
The tone pot thing that everyone talks about is real- mine actually makes a slight popping noise as the tone hits that spot into thick bass. Still, the pot tapers off nicely until all of a sudden it hits that spot that takes you into that Clapton, using coke, Cream, kinda fuzzmushy tone that happens right at the last 1/32 of the pots travel.
The truss rod appears to do nothing to the neck. All I want to do is take a little tension off the neck so the strings pull a little bend into it and nothing happens when I loosen the nut. I've gone about a 1/4 turn now and nothing has happened and one quarter turn is about max for any guitar.
The guitar looks great- flawless, sounds good but isn't the best playable guitar I've used, I thought I'd get a lower action out of it.
Btw, the barbed wire strings that it came with were removed after about 3 minutes of playing it and I put a decent set of strings on it.

I'm not in a band right now but I think a schecter classic would certainly survive live playing.
The seems like it'll last but I doubt the gold hardware would take much abuse- I've seen a few of these in GC's that people have been playing a lot and the tuning pegs were showing wear.

I guess I'm getting really picky in my age because I'm about 50/50 on whether I'm going to return this guitar or keep it.
Some of the things I do NOT like about the Classic;
1. the "vine of life" neck.
a. I've never liked pimped out looking guitars. Looks don't make a guitar play better.
b. how about instead of investing so much into the "vine of life" that schecter puts into this put a nut on the guitar that isn't a .05 cent hunk of plastic or a tone knob that doesn't totally work?
2. The neck is not adjusting.
3. The action, on the low side, is kinda high.
What I do like about this guitar;
1. It's made out of heavy wood. I love heavy guitars.
2. Love the 25.5" scale. I would have ran right out and bought me a Gibson, years ago, it they made a 25.5 inch scale.
3. With the exception of the tone pot the electronics seem good.
4. Great choice for humbucking pickups.
5. Fret finishing is 100% and maybe the best I've seen or felt.
6. The guitars body, neck and headstock finish is very good- not a flaw.
I picked this guitar as one to buy several years ago after I spent about an hour playing one in El Cerritos GC- the action/playability on that guitar was the best I've ever played. I have never played ANY guitar that was sitting in ANY store that I felt totally comfortable with off the shelf but that C-1 classic was the bomb and I should have bought that one (even tho it was already kinda beat up from handling). This Christmas my wife asked me what I wanted and I told her to get me a C-1, which she did. Good wife.
I've been playing for over 25 year mostly semi-professional and I think it's an ok guitar; better than some guitars but it's not overall worthy of a 10 or 9 rating.

Mahogony, H/H, neck through, Seymour Duncan pickups, vine of life inlay on the neck. When I first looked at one of these in the music store it was the blue finish and man was it ugly. It looked nothing like the website pictures. Much more dull/bland coloring. You could barely see the wood grain. Almost looked like it was colored with a magic marker. Felt and played nice so I ordered one online in the antique finish, figuring its brownish, even if its not like the web photo, it shouldn't look bad. I was pleasantly surprised as it looked just about the same as the web image. Very beautiful guitar with nice wood grain. I'm only knocking off a couple points because the blue one was ugly, otherwise the I'd give the antique a 10.

I play rock, 70's rock, metal, blues and heavier stuff like In Flames. I love the mahogany with the Duncan JB. I play through a modded 5150 and it sounds great! It has a thick full tone. Mine came with D'Addario strings and they were a little too bright sounding for my taste. I haven't put on the Blue Steels that I usually use. I can't tell if its noisy or not because the 5150 is a pretty noisy amp by nature. As others have said, the tone control is basically an on/off switch.

The blue one I looked at had what looked like some wood damage that was crappily patched and sealed over by the ugly blue finish right near the lower cut-away, obviously a factory blemish and a poor try at hiding it. I looked over the one I purchased very carefully and I couldn't find any flaws or blemishes whatsoever. The one I ordered arrived almost in tune from the factory. The action was nice but the strings buzzed a tiny bit. Quick turn of the truss rod and that problem was solved. Everything was set how I adjust my guitars already, so I was stoked about that. The frets were all nicely filed and smooth. Highly polished gloss finish. I thought will all the crazy stuff on the vine inlay that there would be some kind of flaws there, but there weren't any. The quality of the hardware seemed very good, even though I've never really been into Grover tuners. The screw holding on the bottom strap button had a bit of metal flashing or something that I had to file off after it scratched me. I'm knocking off a couple points for the blue guitars flaws.

It seems pretty solid. I'm not sure that the frosted finish on the hardware will stay frosted with much use. I assume it will buff out. The strap buttons are your standard cheapies, I would replace them for gigging with some straplocks or whatever.

I am turning into a geezer though and am leaning more towards "classy" instruments these days, without tremolos and whatnot, which is why I was turned on by the C-1. Looks good, sounds good, has a comfortable neck, I can recommend it.... well, other than the blue version.

I play mostly rock and blues and this guitar sounds amazing. Really sounds strat like with the coils split and has a great humbucker tone with distortion. Doesnt sound like a Les Pauldue to the maple and walnut neck but has a great tone of its own. Sounds beautiful through my Mesa Subway Blues and dual Keeley TS9 setup. Very versitile could be used for anything from blues to metal.

The fit and finish of this guitar is near perfect. Setup perfecty from the factory and the finish is beautiful but much darker than depicted on the schecter website. Hard to see the quilt top in most situations but still very beautiful. I was skeptical about the neck inlay but it seems more tasteful in person to me. I like how it matches the blue finish due to the fact that most of the colors in the inlay are green and blue. The pictures I saw did not display how colorful the inlays are in person. This would get a 10 if they just used better electronics. I thought people who were complaining about the electronics were just your typical crazy web forum posters. I was wrong the tone knob is truely useless... I would actually use the term broken. If you think of the tone knob travel from 10 to 1 then this tone pot has no effect until .4 where it just completly drops off. Seriously it has 0 and I mean 0 effect between 10 and .4. The 5 position switch is a bit loud in my opinion but the flexibility is nice. Volume knob is perfect.

I have been playing for 17 years and have owned several US made fender guitars but I must say this guitar is quite a deal over what fender could offer. I acually purchased a black us strat first but had to send it back due to a twisted neck. Anyhow I got 2 TS9 pedals that I later had modified by Keely and this Schecter for the price of the strat. I am going to give this guitar a 10 even though their customer service and tone know really need improvement. I cannot stress how bad the tone knob is. Really I know that Starcaster made by Fender guitar at Best Buy for $129.99 has a tone knob that far exceeds the one you will find on this Schecter. Fortunatly I dont really use the tone knob so all is well. I will probably just replace it really cheap but I just dont know what they are thinking.

One drawback - the tone knob does nothing through most of its range, and then drops off suddenly from bright/crisp to smooth/muted. Not a biggy for me since I use bright sounds for the most part.

Outstanding sound - deep, rich, bright, clear - depending on the selector switch. The sustain is not only long, but it has a quality that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. One thing, however, to be aware of. Some of these reviews have said that you can get real single coil twang in the tapped positions - you really can't. That is not to say that those positions don't produce great sounds, just not authentic Tele or Strat sounds. This is why my other gig axe is a Tele, to cover the full spectrum. With these two axes and my Line 6 Flextone III modeling amp, I can make just about any sound imaginable.

I play a variety of sounds, I'm a heavy metal fan, but play in more of a pop band. The band itself varies in styles from punky Kaiser Chiefs style stuff, to soulful stevie wonder-esque stuff, to Joy Division style dirges. I therefore needed a guitar than could handle a bunch of different styles.
This guitar fits the bill perfectly, fantastically bright, high output sound with the bridge humbucker, great for heavy metal and rock, lovely jangly single-coil sounds when tapped, nice warm sounds from the neck.
The sound doesn't have quite the character of an LP, (which probably makes it more suitable for heavily distorted sounds), and can sound a little bland, but you do get a huge amount of sustain.
So in summary, not one all conquering tone, but a choice of extremely good, extremely usable tones.

Never dealt with the company, but schecters are quite hard to get hold of in the UK, they only have one importer, sound control, and they only get 4 shipments a year. If you want a particular model in a particular colour you may have to order it and wait. (As I did when my last one was stolen).
Marking this down because there's not enough UK dealers!! More schecters please!!

Been playing for 17 years or so. I've also got an Epiphone Zakk Wylde les paul which sounds great but is totally un-versatile!
I used to play an Ibanez js100 which had been fitted with Dimarzio Fred and PAF Pro pickups and I thought that guitar was ace. This schecter is a lot better, better built, better to play, better sound, better looks, better price!
I did have one of these guitars stolen, and I did get exactly the same one again. I had to wait 3 months for it to be imported, but it was that important that I got this same one.
The major plus points of this guitar are, for me
- the looks of the thing
- the versatility
- the price!
Schecter are setting the standard for value-for-money in guitars at the moment. If you after a new guitar, or upgrading to your first 'real' guitar from a practice plank then ignore all those more well known glamorous names and go give a schecter a try! Buy one!

I play guitar since 1988; now I'm playin' pop/rock, but I used to play heavy metal. I think the C1 fits both, but I would use it'scristal clear, well balanced full sound expecially with the clear or overdrive sound. Dut distorted il also well docalized.

I'm a Stratocaster guy, I mean, I really LOVE Strato's sound! and now I play pop/rock with my band right here in Italy.
But now I'm looking for a really good humb guitar. Obviously I think about a Guibson Les Paul or a Prs, but you all know money is the problem when U look in these directions. But when I first play the C-1 I was illuminated! Like many others here I agree that the sound is brighter than a LP. But you know, if u want a Strat sound, than U have to buy a Strat, and if U want to be Jimi Page no way: U need an LP.
But C1 is good manufactured, very quick, with a brilliant and noisless sound, versatile (of course), and - last but not least - beautiful.
Yes, the inlay is not what I would choose, but isn't SO difficoult to know where U are after a while u're playing.
So I'm saving the money to buy it for Xmas. The only thing I have not decided yet is the color: blue or amber? tey're both beautiful!

I don't know when it was made. Made in Korea and it's a second.. So says the number 2 on the 24th fret. quilt maple top, 2 hummers, JB at the bridge, Duncan 59 at the neck. Laminated neck through, maple & mahogany maybe. Tone-Pros bridge. 2 volume, 1 tone, 5-way. Solid!

This guitar is great! I've had it about 3 years now. Good "Stratish" sounds and a nice jazz voice from tne neck pickup. I have several setups. Usually, I use it in conjuction with a Roland GR20 synth. I feed that to a KBA100 Peavey amp and the guitar straight into a Fender Cyber Champ of Showman Reverb, depending on the venue. This guitar will make any guitar sound I want. I can play Telecaster noises with the JB and Wes Montgomery with the Neck pickup and do it in the same tune. The neck seemed pretty beefy at first...like the old Gibson baseball bat necks. I noticed, about 3 hours later, my hands weren't tired. My only DISLIKE is the orientation of the volume knobs. The knob closest to the strings controls the bridge pickup, the middle knob controls the neck.,, Maybe that's what made this a second... I cant see any other flaws.

I've been playing close to 50 years in every discipline. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. The quality of this guitar speaks well for the entire line. If I didn't have several other guitars available, I'd grab another Schecter model for a backup. I have lots of guitars, amps, mics and effects and I've owned even more.
I LOVE the idea of being able to jump from jazz to blues to country to rock without changing guitars or having to compromise my tone.
This guitar is a remarkable value. Worth every dime.

its a display guitar but the guitars playability is second to none. this the very characteristic of the guitar that really tempts me to but it. the shop was saying that nobody give an eye on her on its rack. nobody pays attention to her. i wonder why???/ it took me an hour to had it test drive and every passes i did is nothing short of being amazed. its just lovely in its appearance and the orgasmic finish is something u have to die for. i was happy with the setup. harmonics are very evident and did i mention sustain.....it can run a mile more than my Ibanez bolt ons. thanks to the neck thru constraction.

by just the feel of it, its really a solid guitar, built like a tank but i beleive the finish can be scratch easily if not careful with handling. strap buttons is ok as long as u wont do any acrobatic stunts with the guitar, it will hold the weight. tuning stability of this guitar is not something i expected. i abused it for 5 songs and that includes heavy strumming, bending and hard picking but this thing stays in tune.

i have a 2005 schecter c-1 classic, blue quilt top, 24 frets, neck through construction, duncan jb in the bridge, and jazz in the neck. all mahogany, rosewood fretboard with vine of line inlay all the way up the neck. string through body with "locking" t-o-m bridge. earvana compensated graphite nut. 25.5 inch scale. also a 5 way selecter so you can run each humbucker as a single coil with hum cancelling, definately a plus for clean type stuff.

i play thrash metal, and black metal and this guitar fits that style perfectly. you get the thick les paul sound from the thick body and awesome wood used, but you also get a bad lead tone past the 12th fret due to the string thru/neck thru body with killer sustain. with the 5 way selector you can get some strat sounds, but as thick as this guitar is and with the pickups its mainly designed to sound heavy. i love everything about this guitar, only thing i dislike is the weight. i have an ltd thats neck thru with string through body, but it has alder wings on the mahogany neck and its alot lighter, on that guitar i have the same pickups with push/pull coil tapping, but it definately doesnt have that thick mahogany tone.

when i got this guitar it was set up perfect for .09 strings, but i tune down a half step and drop the top string to c# so i had to put .10's on the guitar and adjust the action. also the pickup height wasnt quite where i wanted it, i raised for a little hotter sound. i dont know how thats really a category cause action is all preference, as for fit and finish, no one blemish, and not one rough fret (a big big big problem with fenders these days!!!)

If you've read the thread and have done your homework, then I'm sure you know exactly what the features are on this guitar so I won't waste your time and will cut through the chase and give you my opinion. One thing to be made clear is that I have played guitar since the tender age of 10 and am now 47. I've owned every brand name and model of guitar fabricated on this planet. I gave a 9 on features only because you're not able to split the coils (a very small flaw in my opinion). (This axe is made for rock so country players without distortion should look at a Strat).

This guitar is cosmetically gorgeous and great care was taken in it's assembly. I'm very impressed with the guitars that are coming out of Korea now. Great quality, care and also set up at Schecter's shop in the US. One thing I'd like to say is that I bought this axe as a back up to which it still serves it's purpose but I have a 1996 Shecter Custom Shop California Classic and I compare every guitar I play to this. I've owned 5 PRS's, various Gibson's (including a Les Paul Custom Black Beauty), many Fenders, Ibanez and Jackson guitars. I still have the Schecter Custom and the Classic (that says a lot). It's not all about the brand name but rather the feel of the guitar and response to your playing ( a glove to the hand so to speak). I have set the action lower, thrown a new set of .009's on and adjusted the neck and the action is great. Don't waste your money on an Epi but rather the Classic because it is the best bang for the $$$$ out of Korea today.

2005 Model, brand new.
All of the features mentioned in many of the reviews.
The SD pick-ups and the 5 way selection switch give this guitar 5 distinct voices. You can get solid Les Paul crunch and Strat Funky twang. The String-thru really gives this guitar some extremely long sustain. I was also amazed at how light this axe is. The finish and inlay work is perfect. Grover tuners top it off. I am not giving this a 10 because I believe all Guitars can have something added to make better, on this I am just not sure what that would be.

Plugged into an old 1978 Peavey Classic Tube with 2 twelves. I have an array of pedals too. This bad boy sings with clean chime. I was amazed at the low end. All of the effects sounded amazing. For the first time I was able to really hear a full spectrum of sound from every chord. Cranked up, this axe supplies all the sustain and sound that will make any tube amp rumble with joy. I have not yet plugged it into my Fender Princeton 65 (solid state)but will do so this evening. The harmonics are also very present throughout the neck.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

I am not sure if this was set-up at the store, but it is set perfectly. Very low action. The frets are smooth at the edges which makes movement up and down a dream. The inlay work is simply amazing considering the price. The birdseye maple top is perfectly stained (to a tobacco sunburst). The binding is also well done. I was not able to find one flaw with this finish. As with all my Gold hardware guitars, I am sure the pickups and bridge will rub away with time. I expect this.

I have many guitars by many manufacturers (Epiphone, Ibanez, Fender, Cort, Washburn, Teisco DelRay...) and can honestly say this is the best guitar for the price. If stolen, I would hope that I would be able to control myself and not hunt the MF'er down and string him up. I would replace it ASAP. You can go spend $2,000 on a Guitar for the name, but nothing at this price range will match this guitar. Schecter will be the next Fender in 20 years.

I want to add my voice to the others who highly esteem the beauty of this guitar. However, the pots on mine are sorely in need of replacement, and some of the gold hardware has already lost some of its luster. True, it was inexpensive compared to other guitars with similar features, but not that inexpensive to justify cheaper parts. I would have liked more tone control as well.

I?ve plugged the C-1 Classic into a V-Amp Pro, a Roland BC-60, a Mesa Boogie Lone Star Special, Mark IV, and Rectifier. I like the way this guitar resonates against my ribcage. The five distinct ?voices? that are to be had by using the selector switch are very good, but to my ears they are somewhat unrealized or are lacking fullness of character. I suppose definition is the definitive word here.

Sounds unbelievable on a Mesa F-30 and a Hot Rod Deville. I play a lot of blues so I go straight through without any pedals. The neck pickup is full and smooth. Every fret sounds great. Beautifully set up. The action is a little low if you want to play slide - and I'm hoping I can get that adjusted a bit. It's not to the point where you can't play slide - it's just a little more touchy. Other than that it's perfect.

The Jazz/JB pickup combo is awesome. They sound great with this guitar. I love the versatility of this guitar. Blues sound awesome on a clean tube amp. I also enjoy playing heavy drop D metal and it sounds awesome as well. I can get a near perfect Stephen Carpenter tone and a near perfect Warren Haynes tone. Two opposite styles and one guitar. What more do I need to say? It's a sweet guitar.

I love the features this guitar has, the Duncan Design pick ups scream. They are very clear and are very comparable to higher end guitars. One thing I would like is a little more flexibility on the tone adjustment, other than that it has great features. Grover tuners, Duncan Design Humbucking pickups, very comfortable neck and nice tone-pros locking bridge.

I play alot of classic rock style music and i run my guitar through a boss GT-8 effects processor. The sound is incredible very clear with a good sustain. It stays in tune very good (Credit for this goes to the tuners and bridge and also the solid mahogany through neck) I really like the sound you can get from the jazz pickup on the neck. Overall it sounds very good, better than any strat i've ever played. But I might not go as far as to say it sounds as good as a Gibson LP, you can get a sound thats really close to it though.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Mine was set up good from the factory, i did lower the action a little bit then adjust the saddles in the bridge, this was just because i am picky about the way my guitar is set up though. The real reason i am giving a 10 in this category is because of the finish. I have read other reviews on this guitar complaining about it and i'm not saying that thiers was not bad, but mine is incredible, the amber quilted maple top just gleams and the inlay is also incredible. Everytime i pull this guitar out in front of someone who hasn't seen it they always comment on how good it looks and the next question is always "how much did you pay for that guitar?" That's because this looks as goos as a top of the line LP or PRS. I've had mine for 6months now and so far the gold plating is still fine, but i have heard complaints about it wearing off.

I play 70's and 80's classic and hard rock and some 90's alternative. This guitar can do it all. The pickups and the selector switch are key. REAL Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz matched pair. NOT "Duncan Designed". You can get singing smooth Les Paul lead sounds out of the neck Jazz pup and the bridge JB is unreal.
No noise in the coil-tapped positions at all. Great Strat-like sounds. Tried this puppy out through a PODxt with my patches on it. Made me want to take it home today.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Action was well set up from the factory, but could be a bit lower for my tastes. Nothing a decent setup can't handle. The pickups were perfect. No flaws in the maple top finish. Gorgeous under lights. The one I tried was lighter than the website photos, but still beautiful.
Only beef I had with the finish was that there were some discolorations in the rosewood before the first fret. It almost looked like stress damage, and that was a bit disturbing. Other C-1's in the store did not have this, so it must just have been that guitar. The "vine of life" inlay was far less obnoxious in person than as seen on their web site.
The tone knob was a bit strange. Worked smoothly and evenly until the last 10% of its travel and then it just cut off all the treble entirely. It was like flicking a bright switch off. Tried another C-1 and it didn't do this. The quality control on the pots leaves something to be desired but I understand their support is top notch and should be able to take care of this problem for you.
The bridge is OK, but has some pretty sharp angles. Might have a string breakage problem, but that remains to be seen. Schecter could take a lesson from Ibanez in this department. The bridge on the Ibanez SZ-520 was sweet: all rounded edges and so smooth. Best thing about that axe (although, that was about all...).
I'm giving a slightly lower than optimal rating because of the inconsistant quality control but balancing that with the awesome finish.

Guitar was solid. Much better than the Ibanez SZ-520 that I tried which felt like a piece of hollow balsa wood in comparison. Hardware is heavy duty and I prefer the chrome because I can just picture the gold plate flaking off over the years. Finish feels like it could withstand a nuclear attack or spilled beer. Solid strap buttons. Depending on how the bridge is with string breakage...I don't know. Probably need a backup because of that.

Been playing for 20 years. Have an '86 Ibanez Roadstar II (RG-440) which is my main axe. Looking for something between an LP and a PRS. For the price, this axe is a complete steal. So solid and it plays like a dream. The Duncans woke up my PODxt, which sounded pretty freakin good to start with.
I'm going to buy this guitar. I tried the Ibanez SZ-520 because I'm a huge fan of their product. It wasn't even close. I was soooo disappointed in both the quality and tone. Then the Guitar Center sales dude pulled a C-1 off the wall and handed it to me with a shit-eating grin on his face. I played it for about an hour. I didn't think I could love another guitar like I love my Roadstar II, but I do.
As soon as I come up with the cash, this thing is going to be in my studio.

2005 Schecter C-1 Classic, Seymour Duncan humbuckers, 5 position switch with 2 coil tap positions, neck thru body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 jumbo frets, grover tuners, tone pros bridge, funky inlay on the neck, nice dark brown finish. I give features a 9 because I am not 100% sure I like the 5 position switch for coil taps. I might like separate little toggles for each pickup. It's not super easy to slide from position 5 to position 2 in one beat.
Oh, I also am still getting used the wild inlay. I have to admit, running all over the neck improving on dead tunes, I sometimes lose where the hell i am. but it's all good. :-)

I love the sound. The more I play it, the more I like it. I've played gigs with it for a few months now, and my love for it continues to grow. I play Grateful Dead music. I had the GK-3 roland synth pickup installed on mine using the les paul mounting bracket. worked great! My rig:
Schecter->gr-33 roland synth module->boss tuner->boss super overdrive->mutron iii envelope filter->boss octaver->boss flanger->boss digital delay->fender hot rod deluxe.
The brightness of the sound is awesome, coupled with the great warmth and sustain. my telecaster has been very very lonely ever since i got the schecter.
I use the bridge pickup (position 5 on the switch) 90% of the time. The coil tap sound is ok, but i'm still in love with the bridge sound.
I can get a great country or rock sound.

The guitar came setup very well. I actually loved the setup. I had to have it redone when i had the gk-3 synth pickup installed, and I told my guitar tech to set it up exactly the same. The only thing I did was change the high e from a 10 to an 11.
If there is one thing wrong, it might be the tone knob pot. I am not used to playing with humbucker pots, so it could just be me, but most of the action in the knob comes in the last 5% of the rotation. but i love the sound so much i'm afraid to change it.

I have been playing for 24 years. I also own a Fender nashville tele (the tex mex kind), a takamine ef-508c acoustic, a tacoma d-18 dreadnaught, a gibson hound dog roundneck dobro, and a yamaha 12 string acoustic. I have absolutely no regrets about buying this axe. I would definitely buy another if i lost thins one. My favorite feature is the sound. If I wish anything, I sorta wonder what would happen if it had a strat type single coil pickup in the neck or middle position, that would kick in with the coil tap positions to enhance the strat type sound, which is a little weak. not sure if that would even work, but i wonder about it. the holy grail being a guitar that sings like a paul and quacks like a strat. I cant blame them for not quite getting it. as far as I know, no one else has either.

I play a 1976 Gibson Les Paul with the same Duncan pickups that are in the Classic. But the Paul weighs a ton and is not the most comfortable body type. I wanted similar tone for classic rock sounds but with greater comfort, range and flexibility. The Schecter fits the bill perfectly.
It has the same bright growl and harmonic bite as my LP in bridge position and the same warm, creamy sustaining lead tone in the neck position, but now I also have some very convincing strat tones from the split coil 5-way option.
Still, the extra wight of the LP does translate into a little more bass and sustain than what I can get out of the Schecter. So I will still reach for the LP sometimes when recording, if I need that extra heaviness or singing tone. However, for practicing, playing live and just enjoying the feel, look and sound of the guitar, the Schecter has become my main axe.

Set up from the factory was perfect. No buzz, good low action, 10's. Fine intonation. No catching your hand on the fretwire. Very smooth.
The neck through is so comfortable, it makes it hard to go back to anything else once you get used to it, especially not a bolt-on Strat neck. The whole instrument feels very well balanced. You can support it with one hand under the slope where the body meets the neck and it just hovers there, even though it has a pretty heavy maple/mahogany body.
Mine has a beautiful flame top. Looks great with the natural binding and shiny gold hardware.
I like the jumbo fretts. The scale is a little more cramped than I'm used to. My LP is a bitt roomier, so it feels easier to play. I'm getting used to it and it's worth it for the extra fretts.

This is just an update to my earlier review, IF YOURE BUYING THIS TO GET LES PAUL SOUNDS THEN DONT, just get a decent epi or tokai, honestly, it's not the same, the schecter sounds great but not like much else, I've jsut swapped mine for an epi Joe Perry boneyard and i dont regret anything :) i've also just got a new fender japan strat and the split coils on this are now truly awful in comparison.
The reason this review scores lower than my last is simply because of the quality of the Epi and fender that cost the same amount as this, they're so much better. :\

I got mine used of ebay; but, it was less than a year old and still had the original strings on it. It came with a Schecter hardshell case as well, which costs an extra $100.00 when you buy one new. Mine is the Antique Amber finish, 24 frets, neckthrough, grover tuners, fixed bridge(tonepros). It has the authentic Seymour Duncans which sound excellent. The neck is thinner than a Les Paul; but, fatter than a Fender Strat. The finish on these vary. Some look like the $5000.00 PRS McCarty. Some look like crap. Go figure. Mine looks O.K. Honestly for the money, this is as good as it gets. It's a Custom quality guitar at a Blue Collar price. There really isn't much difference in one of these and the expensive name brand guitars. When you buy those, you're paying thousands more simply for the name on it. If this guitar had an ebony fretboard it would be perfect in my opinion.

This is your Standard Classic Rock to Heavy Metal designed guitar. Personally, I don't think it's a Blues kind of guitar because the Seymour Duncans although toney on the neck pu setting still have to much drive for Blues. I play everything and this guitar is a Classic Rock kind of guitar hence the name C-1 classic. It can handle Megadeth style Metal too. I wish it had a Bigsby Style Tremelo. I use mine with a Line 6 Pod through a Stereo PA System and it Rawks!!!

This is my favorite thing about this guitar. It comes directly from the Factory already setup for perfect action and intonation. It plays so easily and smooth. The finish and inlay are beautiful. I typically don't care for Gold Colored hardware because it shows wear more so than chrome; but, if you take care of it, it will maintain it's luster. They should offer a choice of gold or chrome hardware in addition to an optional tremelo. It's definitely a Professional Quality guitar so GIG AWAY!!!

I own 10 guitars and this is equal to my Les Paul which cost me about $600 more. I've played extremely expensive PRS guitars at the music store that feel and play the same as this guitar, the only difference being an ebony fretboard which is a little smoother; but, it makes a PRS heavy and the cost hefty. If this Schecter had an ebony fretboard, I honestly couldn't have known the difference and I bought mine used. I only wish they offered it with a choice of chrome or gold hardware, tremelo or fixed bridge and ebony or rosewood fretboard. If it were stolen, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one. I'd get the Transparent Blue finish with the chrome hardware. They do offer it with the chrome hardware.

This is a beautifully finished guitar with a figure top and rosewood neck with the vine of life inlay. It comes with a HH configuration with a 5 way selector switch. I mostly use 1-3-5 even though I formerly played a strat with S Coils. I thought I would utilize the 2-4 positions since they are basically a single coil setup. The hardware is all gold and the tuners are Grovers (not locking - the only thing they could improve upon). The bridge is a tune o matic that has locking allen wrench screw heads. It is supposed to keep the jangle down somewhat. I don't know if that happens, but I can say that it makes changing the strings convenient and keeps me from scratching the finish on the top when the bridge generally falls out while you aren't looking.
The neck feels a bit thicker than my strat, but still verya accessible and pretty fast action. I have become very comfortable with it over the past year. Mine is a left handed model-2004. I have seen other reviews that complain about the volume and tone pots. I haven't seen any issues with the volume, but the tone is pretty much either on or off with very little difference.
All in all, I woudl say that it comes with every feature that anyone could ask for.

The pickups are actual S Duncans, not Duncan design. I think this helps the tone of the guitar. It is very responsive to pick attack. The sustain is unmatched!! When my amp is dialed in just right, you almost think that I am using a touch of chorus. This thing sings.
It can get a bluesy muddier type sound in the neck position, or a full in your face sound in the bridge and pretty much everything in between.
I have been playning through a Deville 212 and a variety of pedals (vox wah, Eric Clapton Digitech, and a Behringer VAmp foot pedal for chorus, delay, tremolo, and a few models of amps) fo rthe past year. It sounds great through this setup without much noise. I just purchsed a Genz Benz El Diablo 60 and a absolutely love the tone I am getting with this guitar. I will proabably opt for the vos wah, Ernie Ball volume, a tuner, and a chorus/flange type pedal. The versatility of the amp combined with the pick up options will give me the variety of sounds I need for rythm guitar. I play no lead, but this guitar like other Schecters I have heard can really cut through the crowd and handles lead quite well.

The guitar felt a little lighter than my strat, and so I was a lttle apprehensive about the durability. I PLAY HARD!! I wish I didn't, but I am pretty rough on my guitars. I love em and would never abuse them off stage, but when playing I go all out. This thing has been flawless. I was concerned about breaking strings and have always had to fight tuning. This thing stays in tune perfectly and I haven't broken one string yet. I almost forgot. the intonation from the factory was perfect!!

Met the owner at a NAMM show. Although we are not from the same background and have very little in common (his sponsor was Jagermeister, I play with a Christian Rock band), I got the impression that he is in it for more than the money. He takes pride in his company, and I got the feeling that he stands behind his guitars. All in all a decent guy.
I really can't leave any feed back however, since I haven't had any issues with the guitar.

I would like to get one of the new Ultra III with the Bigsby tailpiece, unfortunately they don't offer one left handed. HEY SCHECTER, HOW BOUT IT?
Lost or stolen, I would have to get another, or would even try another model (PT maybe). I have alot of faith in this company and woudl invest in another Schecter in a heartbeat.

I play mainly metal/shred stuff like Megadeth, Dream Theater, Ozzy, etc. Using a Line 6 Spider II currently. With some EQ work (I have a Boss GE-7), I can get an awesome metal tone, as well as a great clean tone. The clean better with any of the pickups other than the JB, I find the JB a little thin. The JB sounds awesome with high gain, great for rhythm or lead. With the neck pickup, playing distorted, you can get some better clarity for sweeping or just a bit lower gain stuff. Really full sounding distortion. Only problems is its a bit noisy with lots of distortion, and feeds back a bit without some EQing. Get an EQ or Noise Suppressor and this won't be a problem.

I've been playing for a few years now, and this is my first serious guitar. I really love this thing, the feel is great and the sound is awesome. If stolen or lost, I'd definitely get another one. When buying this guitar, I was looking at this one and an LTD EC-1000. It was interesting, because I preferred the tone of the LTD, but the feel of the Schecter. Obviously I went with the Schecter, just because the tone is affected by lots of things, EQ, amp, cables, effects, etc... but the feel won't change much. Overall, this thing plays great and sounds great, what more do you want in a guitar?

Hi, mines a late 2004 model in amber with just the 1x vol and 1x tone controls plus 5-way switch. The electronics work very well with no scratchiness whatsoever which is nice to see for once!
The maple top is good, but obviously for this money its not going to be PRS quality lol, it looks like it could be a 3mm veneer over a plain maple cap but the effect is still wonderful and ive had nothing but praise from everyone whos seen and heard it!

I love the pickups on this model, the JB was strange at first because it is so responsive, it picks up every little harmonic that would normally get lost on standard pickups, could be frustating if youre a messy player though lol. the neck '59 is my favourite, its a very versatile pickup, although i use it mainly with light overdrive, it handles metal distortion and cleans perfectly. must say im also quite impressed with the split coil options, theyre a lot better than most ive tried out but, understandably, there is a volume drop off on them. not really much you can do about that though!
All in all, this is an amzing sounding (and plying) guitar, the sustain really has to be heard to be believed and the versatility has now made my fender strat and my flying vee (epiphone with swineshead p/ups fitted) pretty much redundant!

When i got the guitar i changed the strings over straight away but the action was good, 2mm on treble side at the 12th and 2.5mm on the bass side. after fitting some EB's i lowered the action slightly to 1.7mm and 2.0mm respectively, this is just a personal preference though, the factory setup was easily playable. All the hardware was installed well and the bride had been set up well enough so that only a very minor adjustment was made to give better intonation

I'll try to be quick to the point:
-I play Rock and Blues and I am starting to get into Jazz.
-Been Playing for 20 years
-Play atively in a Rock Band about once a month.
-I also play at church
-So........ I use and beat up my guitars quite heavily
The sound of this guitar is brighter than my PRS Santana SE
Darker than my 1968 reissue Fender Stratocaster
HOTTER than both.
The Seymour Duncan Jazz and JB are a perfect combination.
-Position 1 (Full Bridge) is my favorite and most widely used
-Position 2 has a Statish quality ecen though not quite a strat of course. Actually I play through a Line 6 Flextone 3(which I love) and I have created certain patches to work exclusively with position 2 on the guitar and I can really fool people into thinking I am playing a Strat.
-I haven't found use for positions 3 and 4 yet.
-Position 5 (Full Neck) is REALLY Nice for funking out, or for cleans runs. Very Mellow but yet bright and articulate.

The guitar shipped to me from AMS in New Jersey. The guitar was adequately setup but I had my local luthier set it up for me. I am a little picky on how I want my guitar to feel and honestly I think every giutar should be professsionally setup to the individual players taste and style.
I have the Amber colored one. The guitar's finish and quality are flawless. The quiliting is beautiful and the neck plays really nice.
I really can't say enough about this guitar's beauty.
For the price YOU WILL NOT FIND A NICER LOOKING GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

* Duncans (JB and Jazz)
* nicely matched quilted maple top
* unreal inlays in the neck

I play mostly for my own enjoyment and with friends in a weekly jam session. We play a bit of everyting and this guitar is well suited for a wide variety of styles. I play thru a Fender Princeton Chorus currently but am looking at a Marshall JVT100 which I played thru in Guitar Center. This plays seamlessly thru either amp. The clean sounds are round and fairly well balanced (maybe leaning a bit toward the bright side). If I had to compare it to anything else out on the market, sound wise, I say it is very close to a PRS in the Humbucking modes and does a reasonable job in the "coil tap" mode of getting a fender sound. After having said that, I use those Manufacturers only as references since most know these sounds. The "tapped" sounds on this guitar in my opinion is gorgeous. It allows for very rythmic playing while maintaining definition, but by no means sounds thin. Each of the 5 positions has a very distinct sound .
The Distorted sounds coming from the JB and Jazz pups were startling. After the clarity I experienced in the clean sounds I was not prepared for the growl that these pups are capable of. I was looking at a Parker as well because of the flexibility in sound but this does a nice job in that department. I will confess to having a bit of a Les Paul fetish. While this is not as fat a sound as an LP it certainly holds it's own and if the tone knob is dropped down it gets plenty warm. One area that I think it may have improved on a Les Paul in is the sustain. The 5 piece Neck thru, string thru construction, along with the TonePros bridge makes this puppy ring for days. I have no gripes at all with the sound of this guitar

Schecter has put together an unbelievably high quality product for the price...heck , for any price. The Set up is acceptable right out of the box. Believe it or not it was in tune right out of the box. The action was a little low which caused a little buzzing...nothing a true setup wouldn't take care of. I found the pick up height to be fine...I could see how some might like to lower the trebble side of the pups but I didn't find it necessary. I was suspect of the pots and to my surprise they are excellent.
Here is where I have an issue. I ordered a Trans Blue version from Guitar Center because I preferred the chrome hardware and that was the only color that had it. When it arrived it was teal...not blue. I was really disappointed and ended up settling for the Amber version. After a couple of days I decided that the gold hardware was going to drive me nuts. The Amber guitars come with 2 differently finished types of gold hardware. The tuners, knobs and the bridge are in an adonized gold (satin finish) and the pup covers are a reflective gold. I could live with the reflective gold finish but the adonized finished stuff looks like plastic and I just don't trust it's ability to resist wear. The blue ones have Chrome hardware.
The top on the blue one they originally ordered for me was poorly matched and not highly quilted (as opposed to the Amber one which was as nice a quilt top as I've ever seen). Between the two different gold finishes, the vine of life inlays (which are beautifully executed)and the rich Amer quilt top there was just too much going on... a bit glitzy and distractingmaybe a tiny bit hodge podged. I've since asked GC to order another Blue one and I'm hoping the top is more like the Amber.
In a well executed version of the guitar it was perfect. In a less than perfect version, it was still a well put together guitar. but somewhat lacking in the asthetic dept. I , unfortunately put a disproportionate emphasis on the asthetics of a guitar, but I'm looking for the whole shooting match in a guitar.
If I hadn't seen the Trans Blue one, I'd give this at least a 9...maybe even a 10. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that a stinker snuck through. The high quality construction is picking up the slack for the inconsistent color and poor quilt top on the blue.

I think in terms of reliability and durability this is a rock solid, dependable guitar, from the construction right down to the electronics. I'm suspect of the gold finish but it all comes from reputable manufacturers so I would imagine it will last. My gripe was just a mater of personal taste. The finish seems like a well applied and durable poly finish. If I remember to ever up date this it might earn a 10 after it's been put thru the paces.
No one should ever gig without a back up...get rid of that question!

My customer service experience was mixed. I emailed them about assisting GC with another Blue guitar because I didn't think the one they sent was what the trans blue was supposed to look like (some research showed me that the blue was inconsistent). A rep emailed me back but never answered my question. I rephrased it in another email and he responded again but still did not answer the question. I finally got him to send me a catalog which he said was an accurate depiction of what the blue finish should look like. (which is beautiful in the picture). I went back to GC and they're ordering me another. So Customer Service was responsive and helpfull, just not helpful in the way I'd anticipated.
By the way the catalog is stunning and it looks like Schecter is taking a shot at the big boys.

I definitely LOVE this guitar (or I will if the Blue one is like the Amber one. I've been playing for 10+ years. I did an unreal ammount of research on Schecter, the guitars and the components before I even played one. I knew easily as much as the GC sales guy , who was great. I really appreciate the fact that Schecter put all top notch components on this guitar. I love the neck, both the feel of it in my hand (very fast...low action) and the 5 piece - neck thru construction. If I haven't said enough about the sound...It's Awesome!!! The features of this guitar come both from construction and components. Very well thought out. I would not hesitate to buy another one..in fact I'm thinking about the acoustic/electric model they have out as well, and the hollow body in the catalog is impressive looking (won't know till I play one).
I was initially concerned about Schecter being a relatively unknown name, but this rig has erased that concern. Now I feel like I got in on the ground level of what is going to be a heavily sought after guitar. This was (and is) a highly respected custom shop before going mass market. Eddie bought many Schecter components when he was constructing Frankenstein. Prince's funky shaped guitars...Schecters. Many of Pete Townshends Tele shaped guitars...Schecters. That's pretty good company in my book.

You've read all this before. I think it has everything I want in a guitar EXCEPT those handy locking string things at the far and of the neck. but I've only seen those on Ibanez guitars a Floyd Rose, which is definitely not this guitar. No whammy bar setup here, but you get better tone and sustain that way. Nothing missing.
Sound
:
10
I love the sound. The neck pickup (Jazz) has VERY pronounced highs, and it sounds great. To me, the neck pickup sounds like a Tele only better. Great sustain, I have no complaints about the wiring or the pickup selector switch. The pots are completely noiseless on mine, I never use the coil tapping option though. I found the bridge pickup to be a little low-output for my tastes, but I'm used to an EMG81 in my other guitar. Still, sounds very, very good. I actually compared this side-by-side to a Gibson Les Paul Custom with a 60s neck and this guitar played and sounded MUCH better. The only complaint I might have about the sound is that I had to adjust the neck pickup so that the highs weren't so pronounced and to bring up the low end a bit.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
10
The guitar was set up perfectly, no buzzing, clear notes all the way up the neck, fast action. Pickups weren't in the exact right position, but who cares, it's personal taste and I fixed it with a screwdriver in about 30 seconds. The finish isn't my favorite, it isn't anywhere near as pretty as a Gibson Les Paul heritage cherry sunburst, but it's not ugly or anything. I know I'm going to fuck the back up with my belt buckle and probably rip out the strap peg at least once and ding up the edges in under a year anyway. So fuck it, the finish is perfect. It couldn't possibly play or sound better, all the hardware is premium, the wood is high quality, the tuning pegs are tight and a reasonable ratio, the pots are quiet, as is the selector switch, the frets are smooth. I don't particularly care for the finish options, that's all.
Reliability/Durability
:
9
It's pretty simple, so I'm not worried about it breaking to the point of being unplayable like I am with my Floyd Rose equipped guitar. You could most likely drop it on concrete three or four times without severe damage. The strap buttons are solid as far as I can tell. The hardware is very good. The finish is as good as any, I'll probably have it all scratched up and greasy in a month though. I can definitely depend on it, but I wouldn't gig it without a backup, because there's never a good enough reason not to bring a backup. I'd bring a backup just so I wouldn't have to change a broken string in between songs. Maybe it's just in my head, but it's not quite as solid as a Gibson Les Paul or a really heavy Fender Telecaster.

I've been playing for about six years now. I own an Ibanez RG guitar that I've beaten the shit out of. I replaced the pickups and electrics in the Ibanez with EMG active stuff. Needless to say, the Schecter is a different sound, and I now only use the Ibanez for metal stuff with the tuning dropped. If it were stolen I would cry, I couldn't afford to buy another one. Better plays better than a Les Paul, better tone than a Fender and vice versa. I wish it had a good hertitage cherry sunburst finish, but it's not that important. Awesome guitar, buy it and love it.

Guess it was made early 2000's, apparently built in Korea and then finished off in the States (what degree of work is unsure!)
You know the spec by now and mine is standard, other than its supposed to be the vintage 3-tone sunburst finish, but is closer to the antique amber.....perfect ;-)
Basically this is a top spec guitar thats just built mostly in Korea rather that Japan or Europe
I have bought and sold 12 guitars in the last 4 years and this is the first one to satisfy me in the 3 main areas, sound, style and feel.
Sound
:

The best I have ever owned bar none (13 guitars in the last 4 years).
# How does it suit your music style (and what is that style)? Rock to Metal, to blues - does them all.
# What amps and effects are you using it with? - Laney valve amp and pod xt
# Is it noisy? On what settings? - only when I pluck a string ;-}
# Rich/Full sound? Bright sound? - yes
# What kind of sounds can the guitar make? How much variety? - Fantastic variety
# Likes and dislikes? - none, absolutely none
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
9
# How well was the guitar set-up at the factory? (How was the action?) - cant comment -Second hand
# How well were the pickups adjusted? -excellent when I got them
# Properly bookmatched top? Properly routed bridge? yes and yes
# Did the guitar contain any flaws? (misaligned bracing, poorly filed fretwire, only flaw was a nasty chip :-(
finish flaws, poor quality wood, rusted or oxidized hardware, loose tuning pegs,
poorly cut nut, poorly fit saddle, noisy pickup selector, loose controls, etc...) - As good as finish as the RG3120, in other words perfect, really totally perfect and I am hard to please.

# How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own? - Still have a Jackson Professional, Ibanez RG3120, Fender accoustig - and now waiting for a Schecter s1 to arrive from the states
# Is there something you wish you had asked before buying this guitar? -NO
# If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else? I would buy again in a flash
# What do you love about it? - Everything, finally found the guitar of my dreams, really is that good and I have been looking very very hard for it....... owned 13 of them in the last 4 years What do you hate? - the chip on the finish, but will fix that in time. What is your favorite feature? - looks, then sound then playability
# Did you compare it to other guitars? Which ones? Why did you choose this one? - Only mentioning higher spec guitars Ive owned - Pacifica 812, Ibanez S1540, RG3120, EDR475, Artist. Dean Evo Premium etc etc
# Anything you wish it had? A hard case to put it in
# Anything else you'd like to share? -
Buy one, the guy I bought it from built guitars and had played for ever, and stated that it sounded better than a Gibson Les Paul, I have now compared that for myself and totally agree.

I walked by this guitar several times on several visits to my local guitar store. I couldnt get over the neck inlays (not a big fan). One day i asked the clerk about the instrument and he suggested that i try it. HOLY CRAP!!!!! this guitar sounds, plays and feels better than any overpriced PRS or Les Paul I've ever owned. The overall tone of this guitar is something special. I play all styles and this thing does them all.

If stolen or lost I would buy another immediately. Then hunt down and kill all responsible for my tradgic loss.
The neck inlays need to go or at least have an option to delete them.
After looking at hundreds of guitars, I can't believe i am raving about a $700.00 guitar. I guess the cork sniffers at the boutique guitar stores are gonna dis-own me. This guitar holds its own against the big boys and is superior in many ways, and you cant go wrong for the price.

I would guess the model year of my C-1 Classic guitar is around 2002 because the "vintage natural gloss" finish was discontinued come the 2003 model year lineup. Designed and setup in the USA, this C-1 Classic guitar was built in Korea as with all Schecter guitars of their "Diamond Series". It features a carved Stratocastor-style body of solid mahogany with a genuine figured maple veneer top. The neck-thru alternating laminated maple and mahogany neck features a pearlesque "vine-of-life" inlay meandering down the entire length of the 25 1/2" scale, twenty-four jumbo fret, rosewood fingerboard. For my own personal preference I replaced the stock Grover Rot-o-matic machine heads on this guitar with Sperzel locking tuners. These are three on each side of the reclining headstock. The strings pass through the body at a sufficient angle over the locking Tune-o-matic bridge, and over the graphite nut. The pickups are American Seymour Duncan "JB"(Jeff Beck)in the bridge position, and "Jazz" in the neck position. Contrary to early product literature specifications and many current website descriptions the C-1 Classic guitar does not and never has been produced with a '59 model pickup. I questioned the president of Schecter guitars, Michael Ciravolo, about this and that is what he told me. As for the controls my C-1 Classic is manufactured with a tone control, two volume controls, and a Schaller five-way switch. Positions one, three, and five of the switch were originally wired in series to provide that thick sound of the humbucker pickups, while positions two and four were wired in parallel to offer a thin single-coil sound alternative. Strangely, the wiring of the volume controls with respect to the position of the five-way switch was rather confusing, and I found that annoying. The fore volume control knob, for instance, does not effect the two forward switch positions, as you might expect, nor does the aft volume control knob effect the two aft switch positions of the five-way switch. Furthermore, as at least one other reviewer has noted on this website, the middle switch position does not provide the sound of both, full, on, pickups. I, too, chose to remedy this rather unintuitive volume and switch configuration to improve my C-1 Classic guitar, and to gain greater satisfaction and pleasure playing it. My luthier suggested that we replace the tone control with a master volume control, put American push-pull and independent volume control pots in the other two locations, and replace the five-way switch with an American three-way switch. I now have an even more inspiring guitar with greater tonal quality and flexibility than the original. The volume controls are now consistant with the position of the switch, and by making the volume controls "independent" I can bring in more or less sound of either pickup when the switch is in the middle position. Furthermore, I can now mix or match series and parallel sound combinations with a push or pull of either pickup's volume control knob. This series-parallel wiring also has the advantage of retaining the hum canceling property of the four-wire humbucker pickups in all positions. My rating of the C-1 Classic guitar in this category reflects my opinion of the unaltered stock guitar as configured by the manufacturer. To be clear I give it a 10 in this catagory with the changes I describe.
Sound

My C-1 Classic now produces a full, rich, bright, snappy sound with bass tones that are crisp and clear. I am now extremely delighted with it! Originally, however, I was not. The stock guitar was disappointingly dark and muddy sounding to my ear. I attribute this to the stock Korean pots, which I professionally replaced with American 500k pots. The original Korean pots often emitted a scratchy static sound when rotated, and the dropoff (which many reviewers on this site have also noted) was much too steep for practical purposes. Replace the Korean pots, as I did. Then you can expect to be fully impressed.

This guitar, overall, is superb and the weight is beautifully balanced. My Luthier, David Rusan, (commonly known for Prince's famed "Cloud Guitar") informed me, "The fretwork on this guitar is flawless." Indeed, my C-1 Classic intonates perfect as can be on all strings open, at the twelfth fret, and at the twenty-fourth fret as well! The figured maple top is nicely bookmatched. The veneer is thin and transluscent, and as a result allows the neck laminations to come through visibly in these guitars with the "vintage natural gloss" color. This, as some C-1 Classic reviewers have been incorrectly lead to believe, is not an indication of a factory second. A C-1 Classic that the manufacture has deemed a "factory second" will have a numeral '2' stamped in the fingerboard behind the twenty-fourth fret. This, according to president of Schecter Guitars, Michael Ciravolo, whom I asked the question directly. As for the quality of hardware, all top notch! Aesthetically, however, I do think the matt finish gold does not wear well and detracts from the overall appearance of the guitar. For this reason, alone, I chose to replace all the matt hardware on my guitar with gold plated because I think it looks better. The only items I replaced differently were the Grover tuners because I preferred Sperzel locking types. Personal preference aside, the action, fit, and finish is fabulous!

This guitar, overall, is superb and beautifully balanced. The laminated neck through the body insures that it will not likely ever change or shift laterally as bolt-on neck guitars are subject to do, nor will it ever bind where neck meets body as set necks are subject to do. This integrated neck, on which the pickups are mounted directly and the strings come through, produces a guitar with killer sound and sustain capability, as well as durability that I suspect would frustrate such abuse from the likes of Pete Townshend! This guitar is a rock solid! You can depend on it without a doubt.

My guitar was pre-owned when I bought it a year ago and I received no literature from that owner about the specific warranty coverage. Nevertheless, I have submitted numerous questions about my guitar to Schecter by way of Email, and I have always received incredibly kind and helpful responses from confident well informed people. Even the changes that I made to the electronics, a representative there informed me, Schecter would stand behind because these changes were done by a certified professional technician.

I have been playing guitar for my own pleasure (certainly no one else's!) for twenty-five years. I was captivated by the C-1 Classic when I came upon it in a guitar superstore. I have an eye for value and this was clearly an instrument worthy of my consideration, nevermind that it is made in Korea. I was impressed with most everything about it, and what I was not impressed about I knew I could pay to change and still have a more outstanding guitar than any other I am aware of for the same amount of money. I read all of the reviews on this site and others pertaining to the C-1 Classic before I bought mine. What I love most about this guitar is the quality, construction, weight and balance. What I liked least was the sound relating to the electronic components and stock configuration. That, I new I could easily change and I did. Now I love the sound and playability of my C-1 Classic even more, as well!

let me begin this by saying that this is a very nice guitar at an astounding value. it sounds better than some of the les paul standards i've played. i bought this guitar mostly for hardcore and metalcore styles. it sounds great; very versatile, with the two different duncans. the woods sound incredible. unplugged you can definetely hear the quality. the electronics though are not that great. good pickups, but the switching and pots are garbage, and there are pickups that could match the sound of this guitar better than the stock ones. but for 700 new, you could replace the pickups with sg or les paul pickups, and still pay 100-1000 dollars less on a guitar that sounds the same. it would get a higher score if it wasn't for the pickups. as for the brightness that everyone is talking about, on my marshall avt i had no problem, but it did show up on my fender deville, but if you roll around the tone knob you can fix it pretty well.

the guitar was set up moderately well, you could tell that they cut some corners here and there, but still a great value. action stock is a little high but i am going to get it looked at. woods and how they were put together are top notch A+++ but as i said before the stock switch and pickups aren't exactly perfectly paired to this guitar, this is just my opinion, but even so, after putting in top of the line pickups i'm still paying 1000 less than a les paul. also the frets seemed a little high as in they stick out farther than i'm used to. and on my bridge pickup sometimes i get no signal or half a signal, but its not that big of a problem and i'm thinking about switching electronic anyway.

i would give this guitar a 9 just for the value. it really is incredible that they can fit such nice woods into a 700 dollar guitar. there are some things that might need work, but even after buying new pickups, getting it professionally refretted, getting new electronics and buying a hardshell case you still only pay 1300-1500, which is 700-500 less than a guitar that sounds just as good. the problem with buying name brand guitars is you are paying for the name as well as the guitar, and since schecter doesn't have the reputation that gibson does, you end up not paying more than you need to. definetely check it out if you get the chance.

Made in 2004 Mfg. S. Korea, final set up in California. You already know all the features on this guitar , Real SD PUP's, Grovers ( non-lockers), Neck thru consuction. Jumbo frets, Vine of life inlays. I am not adding to the knowledge pool with this stuff. The Guitar has some good hardware. The 5 posistion switch that I will talk further about is a Schaller (made in Germany) My finish is the Honey Blond with the Flamed maple top. The Finish is first rate.

It has become the main player. Jazz, Swing ,Rock, Country, The five position switching of the two humbuckers has just about everything for live performance covered. Classic Humbucker sound to a single coil Strat like sound. The Guitar does not mimic the Les Paul, Tele or Strat, it is similar in character on some settings but has its own distinct voice. My Les Paul is a case queen now, the vintage Tele is retired. This beautiful Schecter classic has made my entire collection of guitars a bunch of wallflowers. The Sound is bright the sustain is incredible. I may darken the sound later with some mods to the Pots to take the edge off the highs, but the jury is still out on that. The bell like clarity is growing on me.

The action and setup is the best out of the box setup I can remember in 40 years of guitar playing. The 5 posistion switch was intermitant and noisy switching the bridge pickup, but replacing the switch with a new one (sent by Schecter)fixed that problem. The volume and tone Potentiomters were a bit scratchy until they were operated a few cycles and quieted down after a few turns. (I may replace the 500K pots with 250k ohms to darken the sound a bit) The fit and finish on the Guitar was outstanding.

You will pay a bunch to get this kind of guitar value with a 'mystical voodoo' big name Gibson, Fender, PRS on it. I have 38 years of card-carrying professional guitar playing under my guitar strap and this is the most fun I've had with a guitar in years. The sustain will have the bassman looking for your new compression stomp box. My face is too old to be grinning this much. I thought the the girls were starting to notice me again, but it must be the Vine of life inlays on the neck that has them looking. If you get a chance you have to play one of these guitars. Make sure you brush well and floss cause everyone is going to see your teeth.
