The Exotic Star has a tremendous build. I don't think QC gets much better than this and I grew up on USA Fenders/Gibsons of the 60's. I don't know how consistant these are.
I could Honestly tell you this. I owned a Schecter Exotic FMT in Natural before this Exotic Star. The regular Exotic was to Heavy, neck was too thin, and the pick-ups though the same were voiced way to BRIGHT.

This EXOTIC STAR is PERFECT. It weighs 7lbs on the nose. Its perfectly balanced and the neck joint is SUPERB. ALL ITS TONES ARE USABLE, the single-coil comes closer to my Strats than ANY humbucker I have EVER heard tapped including my Custom PRS. These Super-Rock II USA humbuckers may be the best set of buckers I ever played. Let me Remind you....the same set in a Exotic 03 I owned. did NOT sound anything like these.

The WOOD. Listen just to correct the other posts here. This is a REAL MAPLE QUILT Top 2-piece center-seamed and very figured and clear and well matched. I'n natural light, looks FANTASTIC. With a Three piece Mahogany neck and a Two-Piece Mahogany back. The Ebony fretboard and fret-work are superbly done. I actually had to RAISE the action cause it was too low for me to bend and play Blues with. And this baby can Play the Blues. This Exotiv Star has on inlay which is a STAT at the Twelfth fret, and side position markers. Now the Exotic I owned before this one had Stainless Steel frets. This does NOT have Stainless Steel frets which is too bad, but it also could be part of the reason this Star in NOT as bright as the regualr Exotic by Scecter was. Remember they made a Regular Exoxit with a Satin Finish that preceded this model. A photo is still on their web-sight. Theres an EXOTIC and a EXOTIC STAR
Binding, Finish[poly] all are done very very well. No problems with me.

Hardware? Well out side is Great with Grovers and Tone-Pro's. I have NOT pulled the Control Plate to check under the hood. But the Pots feel linear and the 3-ay feels like a blade. I'm not positive. but its very very quiet and works fine so anything i need to change.......I just will change to Alpha or CTS and a Blade switch when needed?

I own SGs and LPS, Hamer and PRS for other humbucker equipped electrics. And I own a Warmoth Strat I built with HSH Bill Lawrence pick-ups thats seriously nice. I bough this Schecter on a WHIM at CLOSING TIME at DADDYS MUSIC in CT. I didn't even plug it in. It was priced at $350 in MINT Cond with the Plastic still on it but used? I strummed it a few minutes. The sales manager said it was priced WRONG. If I took it THAT moment I could have it for the $350. Otherwise he was changing the price by the next day. I bought the EXOTIC STAR in CAYMAN BLUE.

I plugged this baby in to my 67 Twin Reverb when I got it home. Two-Weeks now and I have NOT put this guitar down. I haven't even changed the strings and polished the frets yets. I intonated it and re-set the action a little higher. It was set for SHREDDING. I play BLUES. But without a doubt this is the best sounding Schecter I have EVER owned and the best sounding Humbucker solid body I own and have played to date. Trust me I have LPS, Hamers PRS's and Fenders here as we speak. This is saying a LOT for this Schecter built in KOREA? A real lot even putting it in the league with HAMER and GIBSON and PRS??????? THIS ONE EARNED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

This particular SCHECTER is DEAD-ON. Let me say I have always LIKED Schecters C-1 body style. I have owned a C-1 Plus, C-1 Classic. C-1 Exotic, and a C-S/H hollwbody that I dropped a Zebra set of SD 59/JBs in. NONE play anywhere near as good as this Exotic Star. The C-S/H Hollowbody Strat Schecter was the only other Schecter worth its salt. And that was AFTER I dropped Seymour Duncan pups in it. This one is DEAD-ON right from the factory???

As I mentioned earlier. I have NEVER NEARD a set of humbuckers coil-tapped for single-coil tones sound as GOOD and convincing as these. And I A/B'd this Exotic Star with my Vintage 61 Strat and a Fender Strat partscaster that I am very parcal to. This Schecter SERIOUSLY holds its own in single-coils mode against REAL Vinatge Strats. I NEVER EVER heard a humbucker guitar do this and I own TWO PRS's a Custom 24 and a CE-24. Neither are as convincing as this Schecter in SC mode. Matter of fact the Schecter BLOWS AWAY the PRS's in Humbucker mode and overall FEEL also..............ITS THAT NICE!!!!!

As Good as it gets. I have gone over this Schecter Exotic Star with a set of Magnifyying Glass's on. I can't find a DAMN thing I don't like ANYWHERE.

ONE-THING I believe Schecter should have done, and thats make the MAHOGANY back a ONE-PIECE. But you know what. USA Gibson LP FADEDs have 2-piece mahogany backs now? So what could you REALLY say about that?

Reliability/Durability : 10
Well could honestly say this. The Shecter is a set-neck tilt-back headstock solid-body electric. Being so like any Gibson LP or SG. you HAVE TO BE CAREFULL with the neck/headstock. You will snap them if you drop it right like any set-neck Gibson, Hamer whatever. But aside from that I see no problem with this guitar lasting a LIFETIME

Couldn't Tell you, I do all my own work?

For what I paid........I am EXTREMELY happy with this Exotic Stra. I actually bought itto sell for a $100-$200 dollar profiit. But after playing ths next to my hamers and Gibsons? I can't sell this. I'b be a FOOL, it out-performs my USA electrics. BOTTOM LINE it sounds BETTER than my PRS Custom, GIBSON LP and SG and Hamer Mirage IIs. And its the FIRST split humbucker electric I have played since the 60's when I started, that I actually LIKE and WILL USE in Single-Coil mode!!! FANTASTIC VALUE. As I mention, I DO-NOT know how consistant these are. But I AM going to play one in SNOW LEOPARD which finish I also LIKE-ALOT! Mine is BLUE QUILT and looks very CLASSY. I changed the knobs from the thin coated worn looking Black Chrome to a solid BLACK Chrome tri of knobs and added a WHITE switch-tip to match the Binding. Guitar looks GREAT now. If these are consistant? I'll be buying another!!! For Sure!

Mahogany neck-through mahogany body with quilted top. I'm not sure of the top wood type. It is quilted, but I've seen it described as quilted mahogany. I never knew there was such a thing. Might be maple. Ebony board, Schecter superdupermegacoolhotrock pickups...or something. String through body with Tone Pros TOM bridge. Grover tuners, white binding.

Sound : 10
Quite versatile. Somewhat LP-like, but the 25 1/2" scale lends a bit more bite. The pickups are actually quite good sounding, but I HATE the fact that they match the finish. Makes an otherwise classy guitar look like a toy. Push-pull pot achieves fairly convincing single-coil tones.
Gotta lose the stock pickups, but only because of the looks.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Action was a bit high for my liking, but that's always subjective. There are a few inconsistencies with the body binding, somewhat less than perfect. Jumbo frets are finished nicely, no low/high spots, no sharp edges. The Tone Pros bridge is amazing!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Just played the first semi-gig with this guitar-new band, pool party/dress rehearsal type of deal. I only lost tuning once, on the G string, and only after I took it from an air-condidtioned house to a 100 degree patio in the sun. I retuned, and didn't have to tune again after 3 sets.

Can't think of a better built axe in the $600 price range. I considered Gibson's and Fender's entry-level US instruments, but they fell way short in construction and feel.
After 30 years of playing, I can pick up a guitar and know whether it's got something before I play it. This was a no-brainer.

Beautiful mahogany body ( available in 3 colours )
Set neck with 24 jumbo frets and a beautiful nautical star inlay
( Ebony fingerboard ) black chrome Grover tuners
vintage white binding
TonePros bridge / strings through body
2 Super Rock humbuckers with push/pull option
( matching covers )

Sound : 9
Cause it has the push/pull option it's a very versatile guitar ! From Blues to Rock and also heavier tones - no problem !
At first I tried it with my old Fender Quad Reverb ( one of the best amps to test guitars ) - great clean, full sounding tones !
Than I used it with my Boss GT 8 and again, the Quad/GT 8 ( a very
impressive combination ) produces a LOT of usable, impressive sounds,no matter what mood you've got to play for....
The SR II humbuckers have a pretty high output, but after tweaking around for a while, I found my settings....
I've also tried it with my George Dennis King Bee -a great toy too-
and I've got full and warm sounds out of it again.....
Cause there are real custom guitars (we all know their prices) out there and in fact of the price range, I am very happy with the beautiful Exotic ( earotic ) Star !

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Factory Set-up was okay so far. Also the tuners are working fine...

Reliability/Durability : 9
What I really like, is the neck of the guitar. Very easy and fast to play ! And in this price range it's hard to beat korean made Schecter
guitars ! I love the look and finish so far....

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never tried it...

Overall Rating : 9
Well, I'm not a pro, but I have different other guitars, like Fender
American Strat, Gibson SG, Godin LGX and I only can say, the Exotic
Star is a wonderful, enjoyable instrument ! So I hope it lasts forever, but I'd buy another one of these beauties- no doubt !
Just check it out if ya see one....
