This sounds just like any SG I have ever played, but even better. The guitar has some serious tone, the pickups sound awesome. The coil- splitter feature is really cool. This guitar is extremely versatile, you can get some kick ass jazz or blues sounds, and its even a great metal guitar. I play stuff like Alice in Chains, Kyuss, Black Sabbath and its perfect. This is a monster. 10.

This is a very handsome guitar. I think Schecter has the nicest looking headstock in the buisiness, it's like a mix between a Gibson and a PRS headstock. The body style is awesome, its sort of like an SG body, except slightly more evil looking. The action is great, it's right where I like it. The finish on this thing is immaculate. It is shiny black and it has this great cream binding. I love the dark pearl abalone inlays. 10.

This guitar is not heavy at all. When I first saw it, I thought it would be a lot heavier, but when I picked it up, to my pleasant surprise, it is very light. I haven't gigged with it yet, but I am sure it will do just fine. The strap buttons are large and solid, so this guitar will never drop. I wouldn't ever gig without a backup, but if I ever had to, I would use this guitar.

Overall, this is the best guitar avaliable for under $700. I have a feeling it would still sell if it was 1000+. Schecter has created one of those hidden gems, you should go buy one of these immediately. If this guitar was stolen or lost I would buy another one in a heartbeat, or I might try out the Schecter S-1 Elite. I play through a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4X10, with a Boss DS-1, and a Dunlop Crybaby. I am planning on having this guitar for a very long time.

Korean made (and damned finely made at that)...
Gloss Black Mahogany body w/ Maple/Rosewood Set-Neck...
22 Jumbo frets...
H/H (Duncan JB/59) w/ Coil-Splitter in tone knob...
Tune-O-Matic...
Grovers...
Lots of features for a relatively small price

The instrument makes me very happy... It's got more sonic range than anything I've played in a long time. Right now I'm playing through a Fender Stage 160 (NOT DSP) and with this guitar, it appears it's all I need. The coil splitter makes for some fine clean sounds, while it has a very tight metallic tone in the bridge position with medium gain. The neck pickup has a very thick, booming sound that's perfect for swampy stoner grooves. I think this guitar has inspired me to try playing styles other than punk (which the S-1 does nicely as well).

Perfect... no flaws, fretbuzz, dings, dents, or scratches. It was even in tune right out of the box! This thing has the shiniest black paint job I've seen on a guitar. The inlays and triple-bound body & headstock are beautiful as well.

I think this guitar will stand the test of time... It has the feel of a reliable instrument, and though I haven't had it very long, it appears to be a safe bet to gig with. I inspected the wiring, and it looks clean and solid. NEVER GIG WITHOUT A BACKUP.

I've been playing for fifteen years, and this is the nicest instrument I have owned. That may not say much to rich people, but this ought to put it in perspective - I played a Gibson LP Double-Cut Plus 3 weeks before I got my Blackjack and I like the Schecter better. I have an Ibanez AX120 w/ an Invader in the bridge that this thing blows out of the water. If someone stole it I would lie to the cops about its make, get loads of insurance money, and buy two of them.

Decent Features. I decided to get a guitar with stock SD jb and '59 pickups... the coil tap is a good additional feature. I also liked the fact that this guitar has the tone pro's bridge. The grover tuners are good my s-1 stays in tune just fine.

I'm happy with the sound of my S-1. It's gets about the same playing time as my SG. I tend to use it for lighter songs with the '59. I also use it for higher gain more saturated sounds. I would say it has a nice full spectrum sound. It sounds really good for the price.
My live set up is. Schecter Blackjack S-1 ---> Tech 21 tri-ac ---> Art Tube MP Studio V3 ---> Kustom Quad 200HD ---> Behringer BG412S Ultrastack w/Jensens

I bought this guitar online. It arrived almost perfect. There was a little buzzing... but a little truss rod adjusting and bridge height adjustments fixed that problem quick. The intonition was just a tad bit off... another easy fix.
My volume pot for my bridge pu is a bit scratchy... it was fine when I bought it... and it just started scratchin last practice. it's really no biggy... I should most likely put new pots in this guitar any way

It seems reliable, but who knows. Like I said earlier the pot just started to get scratchy... but I don't think I'll have any issues with my guitar falling apart.
The hardware is a tone pros bridge and stop bar and the grover tuners. They should hold up well, being usual after market upgrades. The knobs and what not seem fine. We'll see how the jacks and switch holds up.
The strap buttons are nice and big... solid hold.
I gig with my sg and my blackjack, they are both equally important to my sound... so I always have a back up.

I e-mailed them before I got the guitar to find out what nut material they used... maybe they thought it was a joke, because I never heard back from them.... I'm sure they'd respond if I had a serious issue and I bugged them enough.

I've been playing guitar on and off for 10 years. I have a gibson SG special. this Schecter. a yamaha bb somthing bass. ovation celeb accoustic. Marshall AVT 275. Kustom Quad 200 HD. Behringer BG412S Ultrastack. Losta chords and mic's and things... I have way too much music gear... but I still don't have enough!
I asked all the questions I needed to. I didn't get a response for one of them (see above customer support)
If my BJ S-1 was stolen I would definatly buy another one... maybe I'd check out the BJ tempest... but I do enjoy playing this guitar.
I compaired this guitar to other schecters, agiles, esp x-tone, telecasters... blah blah blah. I bought this one because I could get good single coil sounds and great heavy sounds... I bought it to be an all around guitar.
I wish this guitar came in different finishes... yes I love the black... but if I had the choice I'd go for natural finish on the body and the headstock....

I believe this guitar is versatile enough to handle whatever style of music you're into. The body is mahogony so you're not going to get as much twang out of it as a Fender made of ash or alder. It sounds more like a Gibson.Having said that,if you're looking for a guitar that will handle any style of rock or heavy blues rock, look no further! This mother fucker will knock your socks off!It seems to have just the right combination of everything:The infamous Seymour Duncan JB/'59
combo,solid mahogony body,2 volume & 1 tone control,a push/pull pot splitter,set neck,rosewood fretboard,22 frets,and the string through the body design.All of these things combined give this guitar a tone
that has to be heard to believed. You can get a lot of great tones out of this little beast.Clean or distorted.I still can't believe I only paid $500.00 for this beauty. They could charge more for it
and get it.I've played the ESP Eclipse guitars from Korea and this model is way better in every way.And those guitars cost $200.00 more.
I've been playing it through a Roland Cube 30(if you're looking for a studio/practise amp,you have to check out this amp!Read the reviews.)
I didn't want to put it down.I was having that much fun.I can't stress enough how incredibly awesome this guitar sounds.I'm thoroughly satisfied with the tone of this little beast.Do yourself a favor and buy one while you can before they go up on the price or discontinue it.It's that good!

The guitar was set up perfectly right out of the box.For me ,that's always a big plus.I don't work on my guitars,so when I have to pay my tech to do it I know it's going to run me at least $70.00 - $80.00.So kudos to schecter on that one.The finish is gorgeous.Very nice paint job.The creme binding is awesome. From what I understand, these guitars are manufactured in Korea and set up in the U.S.I do have one gripe though. There was surface scratches.Theres one in paticular under the neck pickup that I've beeb trying to buff out.I pretty much got it so it's hardly noticable.I have the Fender Maguire Polish kit.It has a buffer pad that has come in handy.Because of the scratches I can't give it the 10.As far as the frets go,no buzzing whatsoever. From my experience buying guitars overseas there have been 2 problems.fret buzzing and poor quality control. That's why I'm a little ticked off about the scratches because they're set up in the U.S. before they go out the door.Theres no excuse for that. They could've buffed them out.It wasn't bad enough for me to return it.

As much as I love this guitar,I don't think I'd want to take it to gigs.I think this one will stay in the bedroom or if it does leave the house it will be for jam sessions.Even though it's mahogony,it's very light.I don't know what quality mahogony it is.It doesn't seem to be as heavy as my Gibsons.Plus it's black and the finish is mirror like. It'll show the tiniest of scratches and fingerprints.I really love this guitar and I want to have it for a long time.I'd really be pissed if something happened to it.Hopefully it'll stand the test of time and the neck won't warp.As far as the hardware go's,all top notch. It has a really cool finish. It's not a solid black. It has somewhat of a shine to it.It looks really nice.

I've been playing guitar for thirty years now.I currently own a Gibson Les Paul Standard,A Gibson SG Standard,A Fender US Strat,A Fender Telesonic, and a ESP Japanese Eclipse II.Over the years I had other guitars that I've sold and traded in so I'm no stranger to great guitars.Gibson is an overated company.Every Gibson I've ever bought has had quality control problems.I don't know what thier problem is but they better figure it out fast. They're not the only guys on the block anymore.Times have changed. When I was a kid Gibson and Fender were THE guitars you wanted because all our idols were playing them. Not the case anymore. And now that guitars are being manufactured overseas it's changed the market. It has it's pros and cons.Do I think american guitars are superior to imported ones?Yes I do.But that doesn't mean you can't find a hidden gem every now and then. This Shecter S-1 Blackjack is one of the those hidden gems.If you are as old as me you'll remember the quality of those Ibanez electrics from the 70's.Back then everybody wanted a US Strat or Gibson but those Ibanes guitars from the 70's were hidden gems. The quality was just as good and they were a lot less money.I think that's where these Korean Shecters are at.These guitars are going to go up in value over the years. You WILL NOT find a better solid body electric for the money. They are a GREAT value. They're worth hundreds of dollars more.Buy one.You won't regret it.If something happened to mine I wouldn't hesitate buying another one asap. It's a helluva guitar.Kudos to Shecter for the S-1 Blackjack. It's destined to go down in the history books as a CLASSIC.

Korean, 22 fret... coil tap seymour duncan p/ups
Everything needed for a hard rocking guitar. Best features are the fixed bridge with string through body, pick ups and tuners.
I never use the coil tap feature since I bought the guitar for its humbuckers rather than for a multitude of sounds

I use this into Behringer V-amp set to Tube Screamer --> Hughes and Kettner Tubeman preamp --> Speakers or Volume pedal --> Randall 80w power amp --> Ibanez quad
With the tubescreamer simulation I get all the gain that I need for metalcore and both of the pickups are ideal for aggressive playing. Excellent clean sounds from the pick up selection choices, the JB clearly has a higher output than the '59 so with just the JB I can get a slightly overdriven clean or with both a smoother tone.

Guitar came very well set up from the US, dealer set up further. Comes with GHS boomer strings, my string of choice. No problems with components. I probably would have liked a matt black finish rather than gloss black since everytime I let someone else play it, it comes back with greasy marks all over the body.

Very solid build, set neck and fixed bridge construction give it some major points in my book. I would gig without a backup only if necessary. String breakage could be easily dealt with just by slapping on a replacement string, unlike floyd-rose system guitars I've used in the past.

Nothing against the people of Korea, but I just think USA makes the best guitars. I was looking for a good practice guitar. Then I started to play this S1 @ GC. I thought, hey not bad, then I saw the price tag, and thought hey, not bad. So I took her home with me and plugged her in with my gear, a Rivera Studio Amp. Then I (A and B) the S1 with my PRS Custom 22 and PRS Custom 24. I was shocked. I couldn't beleive what I was hearing. I thought something was wrong with my amp. But all three guitars sounded great. Then I was thinking, how can a $550.00 Schecter compete with a $1800.00 - $2200.00 PRS in sound, features, wood etc? Well it has a
TonePros bridge which you can really adjust the intonation pretty accurately, (I use a Peterson by the way) it has Seymour Duncan pickpsups 59/jb that sound great, grover tuners that tune well, good wood: mahogany, rosewood, and maple. String thru body is a big help for tone. But most interesting is the 25-1/2" scale length with humbuckers. Those of you who like the neck pickup will love this guitar. Between the scale length the 59 will add sweetness to your sound. The bridge pickup (JB) is really nice. Super good tones. I just think that this guitar sounds really really good. And for the money, man it's just a hot guitar. You can really gig with this guitar at Pro levels.
I really mean this. If you like Rock, Jazz or anything between, you'll' love this guitar. Gibson, Prs, all of the USA builders, lookout. These guitars can compete and do it well. Their sound is up there. Way to go Schecter!!!

Great value! I Love USA guitars, but these Schecters from KOREA are amazing. I was told that if you are to buy any KOREAN made guitar,
you have to go with Schecter. Their quality control at the factory is very good. There guitars are also checked and setup hear in the USA before their sold to customers. So that's a big plus.

This is the first guitar I have ever bought without playing it first. I must say I was a little concerned but I went ahead and ordered it anyway. When the fedex guy brought it to the door I noticed how well it had been packed for shipping. It was triple boxed. Very nicely done. At first glance the guitar looked great. I picked it up and it felt good. it was lighter then my Les Paul Custom but still felt solid. I inspected the finish and it was nearly flawless! It has cream colored multi-ply binding that looks aged like my LP custom. Very nice! The Ultra Access neck heel lives up to the hype as well. Much easier access to the upper register then the LP. The frets are pefect. Nice jumbo frets pefectly crowned and polished!

I played it for a couple hours before I plugged it in to get the acoustic feel. It is very lively. the string-thru body bridge really does add a lot to the tone. Its very responsive and the neck is really fast. The neck is very straight with just the slightest ammount of perfect relief. No string buzzes anywhere and the intonation is perfect. the hardware looks great and feels solid. Grover tuners and a Tone Pros locking bridge. It also has real duncan pickups ('59 and JB). I took it into the studio and plugged it into my Laney GH-100L all tube single channel master volume head that is running through a Marshall 4x12 with Celestion G12-75's. I plugged straight in with a Planet Waves cable. The tone just dripped off this guitar. I went through the gambit of styles from clean jazz to clean blues to dirty blues all the way to heavy metal and it really performs well in all styles. When the gain was cranked up it really screamed. The pickups were pretty quiet at high volume and the sustain is amazing. The neck was very fast and the fretboard was smooth. I am partial to ebony fretboards but the rosewood on the S1 is very silky.

The guitar was setup perfectly from the factory. I always set my new guitars up when I buy them and I didn't have to touch this one. Schecter guitars are made in Korea but 100% setup in the U.S. The action and intonation were pefect and the pickups were adjusted just right. The neck pickup and bridge pickup are well balanced and both have a lot of very usable tones. The controls are quiet and work really well. The 3 way toggle switch is very smooth and has a nice postive response. The only mark I found was a small scuff mark on the fretboard by the nut the was about 1/2 inches long and scratched the binding. It looks like a nut file got out of hand a bit. All in all the finish is beautiful and the binding is superb! I give it a 9 because of the small scratch.

This is a very solidly built guitar. High end hardware that will last for many years. The finish is almost flawless. Very sturdy and will hold up to many gigs. The strap buttons are rock solid and well palced on the body. I would depend on this guitar just as much as my Les Paul custom. It is built extremely well and sounds amazing. I never gig without a backup. Even the most perfect guitars can have odd problems like a pickup that dies all of a sudden or a stuck ball end in the tailpiece. Always gig wit a backup but if I did not have one I wouldn't be worried about it with this guitar.

I played it for a few hours. I couldn't put it down. The only thing I would change is an ebony fretboard. I like this guitar so much that I am probably going to sell my Les Paul and have Schecter build me a custom S1 with an ebony fretboard. I have been playing guitar for 13 years and I have been a recording engineer for 5 years and this guitar is a massive bang for your buck! This is my first Schecter and I am sold. I will be hanging onto this guitar for many, many years. If it were stolen I would get a new one without question.
